    Sizzling rice soup
    Darren O.

Really good old school Chinese restaurant. From what I understand, I didn't get the full effect of the sizzling ruce soup, based on the large party I was with. Really enjoyed it. Different than anything I've had. The crab and cheese wontons were standard. They were good- not mind blowing. No complaints. I had the mandarin chicken with fried rice. Similar to a General Tzo's. Once again good. No complaints. The fried rice seemed like an old school Chinese take out fried rice. Really enjoyed it. I had a taste of the shrimp and soap peas and the sweet and sour shrimp. Both were great. Really enjoyed my visit here.

We hadn't been to Forbidden City in years and decided to give it another try tonight- so glad we did! My family used to come here when I was a little girl. I'm 37 now and the restaurant is still the same. I love the decor: the dark red leather booths, the Chinese zodiac calendars, and even the dishes bring back great memories. My son and I both ordered the sizzling rice soup. We took our first bites and we're so happy- it was delicious. The flavors were amazing and we loved all the veggies and crunchy rice. I ordered the moo goo gi pan and my son got the general Tso chicken. Both dishes were great and exactly what we wanted. Veggies were fresh and perfectly cooked and sauces were flavorful. Our waitress was friendly and fast and brought us to go containers for our leftovers. We paid at the front desk and they were friendly too. Definitely plan on coming back more often!

Chicken chow mein and steamed rice

I was looking for a Chinese restaurant that had noodle dishes. The first place I stopped at looked like it was out of business. The second didn't answer its phone. On a Saturday night! So, I ended up at Forbidden City. The people were nice enough. The told me that they were an old restaurant chain that's been around for 50 years. I really wanted lo mein, but they didn't have any on the menu. They tried to convince me that their chow mein with soft noodles was the same thing. I was tired of trying to find what I wanted, so I said ok. I took it back to the hotel. It most definitely was NOT the same as lo mein. It was adequate at best -- not much flavor and just kind of mushy, with too much liquid, which is exactly why I don't like chow mein in the first place. I guess that, being from the Detroit area, I'm used to a different kind/quality of Chinese food.

Excellent Chinese restaurant! They have a huge menu with all of the classics you expect to find, plus many dishes that I haven't seen before, and a section at the back of the menu with what I'm guessing are authentic Chinese dishes. Our portions were huge. We started with the fried dumplings, which were so tasty that we burned our mouths because we couldn't wait to bite in to them. I had the shrimp curry, and the shrimp were big and juicy and perfectly cooked. Mongolian beef was tasty as well, the beef was very tender. Everything was clean and the service was very good.

With the extensive menu and great lunch specials, I tend to binge on this place. They have an extensive menu, some of which is only in Chinese. You get the normal rice with every entrée and the portions are exactly what you hope for. The BoBo Platter is great and kids love cooking the little skewers that come with it. If you don't want to stay in and sit, they are great about takeout as well.

The food is way over priced. Ended up paying $60 between two people. And we barely ordered anything. Insane.

Very tasty, and with good service. The price of the meal didn't match what I expected, but overall it was a good experience.

It's a small unassuming place - that looks to do more takeout than dine in - but I was lucky and hit the small dining area on an off time. The dumplings and curry were AMAZING! The medium spice was just right for me - a pretty good kick but not too much. (If you're sensitive to spicey you'll probably want the mild!) And, added bonus- the owner was super friendly and I very much enjoyed chatting with her! The only thing wrong was my wife wasn't with me - so I didn't get to order a second entree to taste / share with her ! I hope my travels bring me back here some time!

Not much to look at pulling up, but some of the most amazing food inside. Only three small tables and I assume they do mostly carryout. We happened to Come at an odd time. 2:30 on a Friday which worked out perfect considering I heard them on the phone say they are often booked ahead for multiple hours. The cheese wontons and the potstickers were great, but the true masterpiece is the peppered sliced steak. We enjoyed it on the green curry but they offer as an option on many of their dishes. I would literally drive from Toledo, Ohio where I live to enjoy this place again.

When we arrived around 1pm the restaurant had a table of two and a table of 7 that left minutes after our arrival. After being seated we waited almost 10mins before our server even showed up to our table. After bringing our table of 5 water the waitress was gone and didn't return for another 10mins. At this point we asked to be moved to a larger table since we planned on ordering a substantial amount of food and they had no problem to accommodate our request. Another 15mins went by and still no sign of our waitress to take an appetizer order. At this time a table of two was seated and attended to immediately. Needless to say we decided to leave. Upon leaving we called the manager to inform him of the situation and he was very adamant that we come back and he would ensure we were attended to. Silly us we took his word due to our long standing relationship. Upon arriving for the second time we again sat down and waited yet another 15mins waiting for service. Finally the waitress came over to inform us that she would not be serving us and another waitress would be taking care of us. Turns out our new waitress spent 10mins clearing a table banging dishes around directly behind our table before coming to our table. When she arrived we simply asked if attending to the clean up of a table was priority over attending to ordering customers. The lady proceeded to say she didn't like our attitude and stormed off while complaining and saying things under her breath. So once again we decided to leave. As we were leaving the waitress decided to call one of our family a bitch in front of our minor child. The manager now called us again and we made him very aware of the terrible experience. The manager proceeded to now defend the employee of 12 years...Long story short, we finally made it to Hunans on Bay Rd where the service was absolutely exceptional.

We had a party of 30 people and I called the day before to give them a heads up. When we arrived at 7:30 PM, everything was ready for us. We were seated right away, our drink orders were taken quickly, and the food was fresh and coming out nonstop. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming to our family. We've never had a bad experience here, and that's one of the reasons we keep coming back. The food is consistently good, and while Chinese restaurants may be a dime a dozen, finding a good Chinese buffet around here is actually pretty rare. What's funny is that my family owned a Chinese restaurant growing up, so you'd think we'd be tired of Chinese food by now. Yet somehow, we still find ourselves choosing a Chinese buffet whenever we get together. One thing we're always judging is the hot and sour soup. When you've worked in the restaurant business, you become a little picky about certain dishes, and hot and sour soup is definitely one of them. Since every restaurant makes it differently, it's often hit or miss. In my opinion, Chen's has the best hot and sour soup around. It absolutely hit the spot and yes, I had THREE bowls! What I ate: * Hot & Sour Soup * Fried Rice & White Rice * Chow Mein * Fried Chicken Wings * Fried Gyoza * Chicken & Mushrooms * Beef & Broccoli * Ribs * Sesame Chicken * Crab Rangoon * Sushi * Mongolian Grill Overall, the food was excellent. I cleaned my plate, and honestly, when all my nieces and nephews are eating more than just chicken wings and fries, that's usually a pretty good sign that the food is good! This is also a great place for families with kids because there are so many options. They have everything from pizza and hot dogs to traditional Chinese dishes. The only thing they're missing is tacos and burgers, and they'd have every kid's favorite food covered. With 30 people in our group and 18 of them being children, Chen's was the perfect place to celebrate Father's Day and Grandfather's Day together. Everyone found something they enjoyed, and the staff handled our large group with ease. Tons of ice cream options too! We'll definitely be back sooner rather than later!

Some drove from over an hour away and we thought Chen's was the one perfect place. I made sure that we tipped the Mongolian grill staff $5-10/plate (even though it's included in the price of the buffet). I genuinely believe in taking care of our local establishments. And, at a buffet, I left a $50 tip just on the ticket (~35%) and yet the young lady working up front screamed at me for grabbing three to-go ice cream items (literally in to-go packaging) for my family because some are older, no one ate much, and no one realized that was an option. So I thought I'd get them for them. But the girl up front said no. I politely tried to explain and she immediately said she'd call the cops if I didn't leave. Wtf. You just lost a long-time group of people who were always rooting for you. That moment completely changed how we view this restaurant. A place we once recommended is now a place we won't return to.
