My wife and I stopped here for brunch the morning after staying the night for a concert. For a Saturday and the food level, we were seated pretty quickly. We didn't wait long for our drink order, and the special blend of coffee here was wonderful. I ordered the Crab Cakes Benedict with spinach and a side of hash browns. Our waiter Tom made suggestions for adding on a few things, which was more about enhancing the food and not just the random upsell. I couldn't say "no" to Boursin cheese added to the Bene or onions to my hash browns. That took everything up a notch, especially the Boursin suggestion (which I didn't even see or know was an option). My wife's Idaho omelette also looked amazing, and must have been, because I didn't get any of it and she almost always leaves food behind for me to finish. Overall one of the best breakfast food experiences I've had. Everything (poached eggs, crab cakes, hollandaise, etc.) was cooked to perfection. Many of the other dishes whizzing by to other tables assured me that there's more to explore in a potential future return. The staff there really cares about your experience from the time you arrive, through eating, and even as you exit (as we even offered coffee to go), and that's a rare thing these days. read more

I go for the pancake or French toast specials and my wife loves the various Egg Benedict specials and menu items. All are outstanding. Cherie Inn is a quaint little restaurant serving really good breakfasts and lunch. There have been times when a special sounds great but I also wanted for example blueberry pancakes. No problem. They will do a half and half. I love the flexibility. While it can be quite busy during the weekend, we recently have been going mid morning during the week. No waiting and excellent service. As much as I like this place, I wish they served fountain sodas instead of cans. Certainly not a show stopper-just wish that did. They are currently closed on Monday and Tuesdays so that leaves five more days to enjoy their great food. read more

This place seems like it's the oldest restaurant in GR. It's basically an old house that's been transformed into a cozy breakfast spot. The wait on a Sunday morning was about 30 minutes with a line going out the door, which should have been a great sign of the quality. But honestly, everything was just kind of basic. I can see how it would be someone's Sunday morning go to tradition with lots of menu options but overall, coffee was just fine. Food was just fine. Went here for breakfast this morning and we absolutely loved our time here! To be honest the inside was much bigger than I expected and it was decorated in a cute way. The greeting when we arrived was so warm and friendly. I noticed the host was this way with everyone and I love a place that treats people so kindly. Even our server, Tom, was absolutely great and very kind. Looking over the menu before hand, I had mentally prepared to order one of the egg Benedict options but changed last minute to a comfort meal and tried their Corned Beef Hash. This plate was perfect with some corned beef hash, melted cheese, two poached eggs and the toast of your choosing. I enjoyed the English muffin toast and it came with some strawberry jelly. The plate hit the spot for me and I felt completely satisfied but not too full. My bf wanted to try the French toast but usually is a savory breakfast person so he got the Cherie Inn French Toast which gave you one piece of the toast with some eggs and either bacon or sausage. He loved it! We both tried the Mocha-Choca-Latta-Ya-Ya! Loved the abundance of whipped cream and the rich chocolate flavor! All around loved our experience this morning and woild 100% return! Came here on a Saturday around 11am and had no wait for a table for 2! The interior is well decorated, almost Parisian-style; they market themselves as a European-style cafe. It's also much larger inside than expected from the outside! The staff are also so friendly and kind. We ordered the BLT (a lunch item), avocado toast (+ bacon), and the cranberry walnut french toast. The food was 4/5; the service and ambiance sas 5/5. My friend ordered the Mocha-Choco-Latte drink and it never came; but the waitress removed it from the bill AND still offered to make it to-go anyways, which is so nice. The french toast was subpar; the bread itself was great, but not the right type of bread for french toast. The avocado toast was really good; I loved the sweet chili sauce personally even though it's not commonly put on this dish. The microgreens and radishes were a nice touch too. I enjoyed my time in this cute little restaurant. I was a little bummed that there was only 1 salad option but I suppose it helped me to make my decision that much quicker. The naan that was served with it was fantastic. When I ordered beef tenderloin to go with the salad I was a bit surprised that I wasn't asked how I wanted it prepared but it's quite possible it's prepped ahead of time (it was good, by the way). I don't know that I would go back for lunch but they did have a nice variety of breakfast items that I might go back for. This is a cozy breakfast spot in an old building in Eastown with friendly service, but the food had room for improvement. We had a group of 7 so maybe that's why the food came out cooled, but I had the minimum expectation that breakfast be served hot. Ordered the European breakfast. Toast was on the soggy side, didn't taste buttered despite being buttered, asked for limpy bacon and it came out too cooked. The fruit portion was generous. Tried a bite of their special of the day. A sort of eggs Benedict with artichoke sauce over poached eggs on garlic toast with hollandaise sauce. It was flavorful; the garlic toast was a great touch but again, it was served cooled and that really took away from the dish. The side of cheesy potatoes casserole was quite plain. An odd thing the server did without our asking was splitting the check evenly 7 ways so some of our party overpaid while others underpaid. read more

Racist guy in charge of seating people has a list that he doesn't follow- he made me and my party wait 45 mins and we were ok with it- when we asked at 45 mins what the situation was he goes "I'm not going to apologize at 1145 that you're not seated " which we were not talking about. All we asked was, "Is it now time?" He adds people to the "list " whom he seats at his discretion. Not to say that he was racist would be an understatement- He is & he is passive-aggressive. This is not the first time he has acted like this. Get with the times Cheri Inn set up an automated waitlist or get someone who is not an --- hole. We left after 45 minutes because he had been seating people ahead of us--even those who came after us. He was very hostile and raised his voice while talking to us. It feels he is entitled to be hostile and rude because he knows he seats people per HIS preference not according to the list. Also, it is time they make that place a little more cheerful - so dreary and cold. We will never waste our money there again. read more

Cherie Inn has been one of my favorite breakfast spots since I've lived in Grand Rapids. It's Grand Rapids' longest running restaurant, first opened in 1924. They have historic menus framed on the walls near the Cherry Street entrance which are fun to browse as you wait. You'll likely have a wait especially on weekend mornings, but their system is pretty efficient even though they don't take reservations. There isn't a lot of room to wait inside, which can make things a bit cramped. I've only ever had a handful of breakfast items at Cherie Inn, because the eggs Florentine is one of the best breakfasts in town. It's eggs Benedict with tomato, spinach, melted Swiss, and poached eggs on an English muffin with hollandaise. I always get bacon too. They have special food features each weekend - usually two savory items and one or two sweet items. This visit, Nate got the spinach omelette and I got the eggs Florentine with bacon. We also got a short stack of pancakes to split. The eggs Florentine was perfection as usual, with runny yolks, rich hollandaise, lots of fresh spinach, and a perfectly toasted English muffin. The bacon is also incredible - thick cut and high quality. Nate really enjoyed the omelette, but unfortunately the pancakes were just okay, nothing special. They were a little gummy in texture. Service was a little lacking on our last visit, but they were super busy and there were several really large groups at the restaurant. It was also quite loud which made it tough to converse. However, I still love Cherie Inn and rank it as one of my top spots for breakfast in the area. read more

Only open 8am-2pm, closed Monday and Tuesday so you definitely have to pay attention to your schedule when you want to go here. There was plenty of street parking right out front that charged $2.00/hr. Easy to use. When we walked in a Yelp sticker was posted on the door. That made me smile. We were a table of four and two had already arrived and were seated. We just gave them their name. It was a cozy round table by the windows. The restaurant was quite and respectful while they ate. Felt like a vintage time in space where you could focus on the guests at your table, enjoy unique decor and fabulous food. Definitely a throw back in time. My husband had crab cakes, with poached eggs, and spinach. He said the eggs were cooked to perfection and the crab cakes were definitely homemade. Not store bought. I was interested in trying the soup. Could not make upy mind so I had both the mushroom and squash. Neither disappointed. My favorite the squash. It paid well with my Cherie CAB sandwich. There were so many options that looked amazing trying to pick a meal was like trying to pick a favorite star in the heavens. I definitely am going back. Granola blueberry cakes and cranberry walnut french toast are calling to me. Facility was dim but had lamps and windows for sunlight. It happened to be cloudy in this day but no worries still able to get around. The restaurant was clean, smelled good, a little older but it works for the space. Went to check out this restaurant based on a review found on WGRD online. The place was busy but the Host was friendly and gracious. Turns out he is the owner. We waited 10 minutes and were seated in the rear of the restaurant in a booth with a window. The server greeted us and told us about the Specials. I was tempted by the Chipped Beef on Toast but but went with the Eggs Benedict. We didn't t wait very long for the food and it was delicious. They make their hollandaise sauce from scratch. My husband and I eat here every weekend. We stopped going to other breakfast places as nothing could compare to the incredible food and exceptional service we consistently receive at Cherie Inn. The owner, Michael, and entire waitstaff treat every single patron like family and will do everything they can to make your visit enjoyable. And the food, my God, the food is crazy good. Every weekend they have a few specials that are so unique we want to try them all (full disclosure, we have often ordered three entrees between the two of us due to FOMO ). We have enjoyed Cherie Inn almost every weekend for the past year when we first saw an article written about it and we have never left disappointed. I have witnessed the staff bend over backward to make things right for some pretty tough and demanding customers and they always remain upbeat and friendly. I love this little Parisian inspired gem! The owner is so kind and went out of his way to give my children some Halloween candy as we left. Their menu is great, but I'm a sucker for their specials. Reasonably priced and exceptional quality. We enjoyed our lobster crepes and Polish scramble with some yummy pierogies on the side. My absolute favorite side is the cheesy potatoes. They are rich, balanced and worth every carb! On a past visit I had their salmon lox Benedict with perfectly poached eggs and homemade hollondaise sauce. Delicious! We were in GR for a girls' brunch. I chose Cherie Inn for the menu and the ambiance, specifically the fresh flowers which are touted on the website. Sadly, our table had no flowers! We ordered three Mocha-Chocolate-Latte-Ya-Yas and a water to begin. The whipped topping & sprinkles were a cute touch, but it was a pack of hot cocoa mix added to their hazelnut coffee. Cherie Inn is such a staple in GR and I tend to forget it's here because it's a fairly basic, quaint little breakfast spot. There are just so many other places that are showier that I always forget to come here, but honestly have never had a bad experience while there. The food is good, and the service is always great (prompt and super friendly), that I'm glad I came back to enjoy. I just wanted a basic breakfast and ordered the sausage bake scramble with the croissant on the side (definitely a good tip because it would have been soggy and I like the crispy to enjoy the flavor). It was a very large serving and had a TON of cheese. I think I'd ask for light cheese next time, but the eggs and sausage were delicious. My boyfriend ordered the avocado toast with lamb, goat cheese and onions on it - per our server's recommendation - and I got major food envy. His was DELICIOUS and I'd totally order that every time to get a bit of protein that is unique. Definitely a good reminder of a great GR staple. read more

It was the most delicious Benedict I think I've ever had. My husband had the beef tenderloin Benedict- it was also fabulous. The Cherie Inn is everything that I ever needed + more. The first time I visited I was taken back by the charm; the mis-matched coffee mugs, the assortment of vintage chairs and tables, and the friendly staff. It is the kind of place where you feel like a regular from your first step through the door. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu (especially the sausage bake scramble, the cinnamon French toast or the bagel sandwich), but their specials always keep me on my toes! I do wish that they had a liquor license so that I could have a mimosa - but it almost lends itself to the wholesome vibes that the Cherie Inn serves - and do we really want to disturb that? The owner is prejudiced and a jerk. I simply went in to pick up an order and was charged differently than advertised on their website. The female manager was willing to remedy the situation but had trouble working the credit machine. The owner Mike came in and shut her down and said he would not honor what was online and didn't care what his manager said stating "I'm the owner" He then continued to be rude once I asked for a refund and refused to provide me with documentation proving he returned my money. I told him he was being an asshole and his response was, "That's what you are." I have not experienced such disrespect and this from the Owner!!! DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!! read more

Only got one refill of it when I asked someone who wasn't even our server for a refill. Had an empty cup for over 10 minutes and they were not that busy. Got the eggs Benedict with a side of hash browns. The eggs on the Benedict came out over hard? Yikes. Hash browns came out about 4 minutes later by someone who wasn't our server. Hash browns were way undercooked in the center. Had an odd, slimy mouthfeel that potatoes that aren't fully cooked can get. Our actual server was extremely inattentive. I don't ask for much. Just a how ya doing and maybe a refill. I was a server for over a decade, so he still got 20% but they are getting a poor review. Would give one star, but the flavor of some of the food was on point and place has potential to be great, plus the coffee tasted so so good. What a shame. Saw good reviews and they had cool specials. I bet if we had an experience without that poor service this review would be glowing like most of my reviews. read more
