We were greeted by an older lady who was very friendly & very informative about this store. Once I heard her mention that a % of sales purchased goes towards taking care of the animals for adoption I just had to purchase something. I also saw a big table with homemade cat & dog treats and heard the lady telling a customer that a local lady makes them. I ended up buying a packet of cat treats for my boys & a package of chicken doggie treats for my Mom's dog. All the cats for adoption were so cute but I always feel bad for them being caged up. This place doesn't have your normal cages that you find in those pet stores in the mall. They were pretty neat, clean & looked well ventilated. There were two big dogs for adoption in their cages & 3 cute puppies in an enclosed place on the store floor. What I didn't like is that they had it so you're not able to pet them.....my guess is for liability issues & to keep customer's germs aways from them? Their adoption fee's are affordable too! Definitely think about coming here if you're thinking about adopting/rescuing a dog or cat. Friendly staff, well organized, clean store. No stinky smells here.

It is a shame we wanted to adopt from a rescue or a shelter however, they don't care to have these pets adopted? After waiting calling texting emailing and no one returned your call or an email or a text. I went ahead and purchased. Two puppies from breeders. It is a shame that these organizations say they want to place into a good Home however, never bothered to follow up.

West side: cat kennels -it was a horrible troubling experience…read more A lot of "volunteers" sitting around doing nothing while visitors are going around, lifting up blankets for privacy from cat kennels and petting the cats although each kennel has a sign. Petting cats from kennel to kennel. Which spreads illness!! I was not surprised by this behavior as I saw a man doing it, and he informed me that he was a volunteer and he knows what to do. I did not see him wash his hands after the encounter, and then other people saw him doing it and they started petting cats. Not a good example!!! Why aren't the volunteers going around helping spread information and helping. The staff is horrible. No one has incentive doesn't seem to care. The older male volunteer got confrontational and agitated. Maybe because he knew he was breaking the rules under the guise of being a volunteer. Showing poor behavior to other visitors.smh It was so unprofessional, but it's Pima county run. Seems like they need less volunteers clogging up the space and more people doing things. There is no reason it has to be so disorganized. We've been to the cat kennel multiple times over the years and it's always the same. A group of "volunteers" and employees congregated doing nothing. SMH We never decide to adopt there as it's so disorganized and unprofessional. Maybe one or two of the people work there (in blue?) but they are worthless. THE WORST SHELTER I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO. It's the people not necessarily the conditions (for cats) Follow up- went to the southern Tucson, Humane Society and it was a much better experience. Professional and organized. We took the free tour on a Saturday and got to hear the stories of how the pigs came to the sanctuary and the incredible work they do to keep the pigs healthy and happy. It was so educational and we learned so much not only about pigs but the sanctuary. They meet the needs of all the pigs there whether that's sunscreen, special living quarters, medicine, etc. they work tirelessly to give these pigs a better life. At the end you can make a donation, buy their merch etc. They also have an Amazon wishlist you can support. It was easy to find and it does require you to drive down a dirt road. Make sure to bring water and wear walking shoes! They do have a bathroom on site that's indoors. It's also a beautiful drive out to their property !

Leaving a review of my experience based on the low ratings…read more If you know you are a responsible pet owner and will will provide a loving, safe forever home for a kitten/cat then definitely don't read the negative reviews. I looked online prior to coming in. It is recommended that you fill out an adoption application prior to coming in so you'll be pre-approved which makes getting the cat of your choice more likely. It isn't required though, you can pop in anytime they are open to see and meet the cats available for adoption. I'm glad Holly has pissed some people off! When I was there there were a couple of groups of people that came in with kids/teens who didn't respect the cat's boundaries. I saw a boy trying to play with a cat by batting at it when the cat had already popped him and it's ears were lying flat back on it's head. There was zero awareness from the boy (mid teens) that this cat did not want to play with him, he was just terrorizing it. The cats roam freely through the facility, some like attention others want you to leave them the fuck alone. Take a hint when it's given and you'll be fine. From my experience and based on the questionnaire for adoption Hermitage is just trying to get these cats into reliable, loving, stable homes. When I dropped in yesterday I had no expectations that I'd actually be able to bring a kitty home. Whatever hoops they require a person to jump though is in the best interest of the kitties. You are not entitled to whatever cat you want whenever you want it just because it's in a shelter! I am so grateful Holly let me adopt my sweet boy yesterday but I would've completely understood if I had to wait and potentially miss out on getting him. I showed up at 4 pm just planning to look but prepared in case I found "the one". When I knew I found the one I went back out to the lobby and filled out the adoption application on my phone. Once submitted I asked how long the approval process takes. Holly said it varies and recent background checks through my employment might have sped that up. I asked if I'd be able to take him home that day or would it be Tuesday when they reopen, if approved. Holly told me it depended on whether the people there before me were adopting and how many. This was because the cats have to get a checkup before leaving and there's paperwork to be filled out. The shelter closes at 5 pm on Saturdays. Completely reasonable!! So I just hung out and played with cats until I knew for sure. Luckily there was only one adoption in front of me so Holly had time to work me in. This place is wonderful and I am so so glad I wasn't dissuaded by the mediocre yelp score. There are some very petty people and they really mess up the reliability of yelp. I do like them when they have a proper home and people who care about them. I went here with a friend of mine who lost his cat and wants to get another one. I was not expecting such a beautiful clean space with wonderful people taking care of these cats. It is so clean and the cats are so well cared for. The volunteers were amazing and it was a wonderful experience. My friend is hopefully going to volunteer here.
