Our server Philip was amazing as well,he was busy but made sure he checked on us multiple times and refilled our glasses with ought need to ask, that being said i will be coming back for me and my boyfriends date nights and i am eager to come back! Our server was very basic, what can i get you... nothing over the top that you might expect from a fancy steakhouse like cut into your steak to see if it's prepared properly, any cracked black pepper for your Caesar, here are our today's specials, or here's our wine list..etc. The ambiance/decor was nice with whiskey barrels separating the two dining halls. It's a relatively small joint, quiet and relaxing. We both ended up having the fillets with baked potato's and Caesar salad. The Caesar was a standard issue Caesar, I didn't detect any anchovy fish notes like a lot of of steakhouses do which was totally fine. The baked potatoes were good probably our favorite thing we had. The steaks were a miss in both our opinions. I ordered mine med rare she had hers medium. They both arrived medium. They were super flat like a sirloin, dry like a sirloin, and cut like a sirloin. We kind of thought we received the wrong steaks however sirloin wasn't on the menu. ‍ if it truly was a filet, it might be the toughest chewiest filet I've ever had. Overall i'd give GOS 3/5 staff was friendly, ambience is nice, the food level I would put at Logan's roadhouse tier at ruth chris prices.

We've tried the steaks (tender and flavorful), sandwiches (yum! -- the cheesesteak seems packed with flavor and the grilled chicken is tender and juicy), fish and chips (not over-cooked -- lightly battered), and salads (fresh). Save -- if you can -- room for dessert! Everything is great, the portions are generous, and the price is reasonable (a rare find these days). Also, Josh (chef and co-owner) is a deep-fry master. His waffle fries, mozzarella sticks, and mushrooms are over-the-top. Josh sometimes steps out of the kitchen to greet customers and make sure everything is OK. The rest of the staff follow his lead for friendly service. If you get the chance, check out the adjacent, beautiful wine tasting room for Lake Barkley Winery. In addition to tastings from proprietor and builder, Bill, you can pick up some great local wines or some California varieties. Not only did Bill build the tasting room by hand (along with the entire building), he's the vintner who created the local wines from grapes he grew nearby. Get some of his local wine before he runs out of it. The California wines are from a vineyard his relative owns. This really is a family business! The tasting room is gorgeous and could be a great place to rent out for an elegant event. I hear JJ's and Lake Barkley are close to opening a banquet facility upstairs -- can't wait to see that!

A few other drinks did not have the correct ingredients. Food was fine, was a little disappointed in the "steak" that was essentially a hamburger patty. Fries were good, veggies were fine. Inside was very spacious and there was a more casual spot next door.

I didn't take any photos during that trip for this review and since everything about Harper House said, "Come on back and get some more." we decided to get back up there for another round. Reservations were for 7pm and we got there a tad early, but were seated promptly and probably right at 7pm...I wasn't checking my watch. We started off with a basket of their fried pickles (last time we started with the Group Grazing Board, but we had more in our party). They came out from the kitchen quickly and there's a really good portion for the price. They weren't as crispy as they could be, but they were really tasty. They came with a house made ranch dipping sauce that was just what we expected...ranch sauce. They did bring out some of their house cornbread as well with strawberry butter. I'm not a fan of cornbread all in all unless it comes in muffin form with cheese and jalapenos to eat with some pinto beans...but this was good. Had a hint of sweetness to it as well, which went well with the strawberry butter. My wife ordered the 7oz center cut filet mignon but she subsituted the mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts for Harper House Mac-n-Cheese and Crispy Red Potatoes. Initially, the filet came out slightly underdone, but they quickly made it right. She really liked it, said that it was exactly what a filet should be...and the peppercorn demi glaze made it that much better. I ordered the ribeye and kept the sides as is (baked potato & thin cut crispy onion strings). This was a super flavorful cut with an insanely rich, bold flavor and just the right amount of fat marbled throughout the cut. If you live right there in Cadiz and haven't been to Harper House, head over there to grab a bite. If you live down I24, you owe it to yourself to make the 30 minute drive and give it a shot. It's well worth the trip.
