One of the best farm to table eateries ive had the pleasure of eating a "Stone Mountain Village Gem" I walked up to this amazing eaterie sitting on the corner across from the theatre. Fresh grown gardens surround the eatery where you can witness where your veggies are coming from :) Absolutely organic and the flavor says it all. I entered and the cozy old school music playing faintly in the background made me feel at home in "Ma Mas" kitchen and the place was OCD clean. Staff of older experts warmly greeted me which one turned out to be "Chef K" herself from the food network #Surprised me :) We went over the well prepared Menu as the place filled instantly as I sat down. Showed up at 6:10 PM on a Wednesday with an 8 top. At first they said they could accommodate us and we asked to be seated outside. There were 8 of us; 4 adults, 4 children (it's a small place and we wouldn't fit well inside, knowing this I asked to be outside.) About 6 minutes later the waitress came out and said they were closing the kitchen and we would have to find somewhere else to go. I'm a little confused about their hours of operation and when they serve food or not. Looks like a really quaint, lovely place, we are from out of town and would have loved to try it. Today, after reading some Google Reviews it is apparent that other customers have complained about this restaurant's treatment of families with children in the past. This makes me sad. Our children are well behaved and dine out often. Anyway, because we were turned away we took our 8 top to Cherokee Rose and dropped $400 plus tip. I stopped in here just to grab an iced tea and the lady working here is an absolute gem. She is super kind and welcoming. The place looks really cute inside and they had homemade cakes that look delicious. I'm excited to go back and try it. Thank you Stone Mountain for this amazing establishment! I have been here about 10 times and bring all my friends here! They food is GREAT, I typically go for the pesto panini and fries! The service is also pretty quick. The inside sometimes can get pretty crowded as there is not much seating space. Make sure to check their hours to ensure they are open! We to downtown Stone Mountain to this nice little spot in a house. It was an hour before closing and not many people there. We were seated immediately and waited a little while for the server. Got our drinks and then a flood of people arrived. I got chicken and sweet potato waffle. I also got grits. It was tenders which was fine with me. The food was good overall. Which the grits had a little more cheese in them as it was just a sprinkle on top. My tea was sweet, southern sweet lol. It was a good experience. Love supporting local business. I love the atmosphere. But the Potatoe salad was different. They mixed in sweet potatoes and they were harder than I usually like my Potato salad. Fried green tomatoes were fresh tasting but needed some seasoning. Sweet potato pie was slamming. My partner enjoyed his turkey burger, but I think it made him sick. Service was on point. Cam did an excellent job. Owner was nice when I called and left a message. She was courteous enough to call me back even before they opened. I visited for lunch on a Sunday. It was a windy chilly autumn day but inside it was cozy! The staff welcomed us immediately and found us a table. The restaurant is in a former house with the dining rooms at the front and kitchen in back. I ordered the Cafe Breakfast which included eggs, bacon or sausage, grits or potato, and a sweet potato biscuit. All was delicious, especially the biscuit. My companion had an omelette with sweet potato soufflé that I was able to taste. I've never eaten a creamy lovely sweet potato soufflé before but I'd certainly have another. It's not a big place and got busy after noon, so reservations are recommended. It's walking distance from other shops and the brewery, and not far at all from Stone Mountain park (about half a mile). read more

What a gem! We stubbled upon this place while visiting Stone Mountain, I thought it would be your typical southern food restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. Southern food with a healthy twist. Basil lemonade, purple cabbage, cream collard greens, broccoli and potatoes. All with an earthy flavor, I really liked the purple cabbage. I wasn't that big of a fan of the cream collard greens. We wanted a quick bite to eat after we climbed up and down Stone Mountain and this is conveniently located right outside the park. I felt like I was in one of the small towns I would visit as a child in Virginia. The restaurants looks like a converted home with all of the country charm still intact. The waitresses were genuinely so nice. So the food. It's not called Sweet Potato Cafe for no reason. The biscuit was made out of it and the jam. Omggg sooo good and you can tell it's homemade. The catfish was great and my friend ate that backlit sandwich in less than ten minutes. The grits were great and the outstanding costars were the no meat cabbage and creamed collard greens. Was craving a baked potato so we tried this place. Unfortunately found out they do not server baked potatoes on Sunday :( Had the Sweet Potato Waffle without the chicken. It was OK. Soul Food... Without the Soul So, the menu forgot to mention the braised cabbage was PURPLE. Not "a hint of purple," not "caramelized with flair" -- no, this was full-on Grimace-on-a-plate. We found this gem of a restaurant while visiting Stone Mountain. We had a late lunch and had the black bean burger (made fresh in house) and a loaded sweet potato. Both were excellent. The brewed tea was nice and tasted like an aged black tea. We also had a slice of key lime cake which we took with us and had later. It is made by a local baker and it was also very tasty. The place is in an old bungalow (house) and is small. It was very busy when we arrived. Since everything is made fresh, in house it took some time to get our order and service was a tad slow. I'm in this area a few times a month and decided to try to find a local spot to treat myself before I made the drive home. I love anything sweet potato so this seemed like a match. I was greeted immediately and went to the counter to place my order. Of course I wanted to try a slice of sweet potato pie. But they also had a selection of other deserts on the counter that caught my eye. I asked for a recommendation for a side item also and went with the recommended side order of sweet potato hash. The place is quaint and there isn't a clear waiting area for to go orders. There were 2 ladies sitting at tables awaiting their food. Since I only ordered dessert and a side, I just stepped to the side of the hostess stand since I figured I wouldn't be there long. After 20 minutes, one of the other ladies approached me and mentioned that she'd been waiting 30 minutes for her dinner order. The other lady waiting heard our discussion and chimed in about her long wait as well. While we were talking, a lady came in to return her meal. She said half of it a wrong and what she did taste was not good at all. After waiting 25 minutes for a slice of cake, slice of pie and side I went to the register and told them they could cancel my order and I was going to leave. So I unfortunately did not get to try any of the food. It was quite disappointing since I could literally see the dessert in front of me and it just needed to be placed in a to go container. Another issue I had was an automatic service charge. There is a sign on the wall stating that the charge is added to any order over $15. However, my order was less than $15 and still received an automatic charge. read more

What a lovely restaurant! The decor is quaint and like home. A gem, for sure. My sister and niece and nephew are vegetarians and we needed someplace that accommodated them and me the omnivore. I had the soup of the day, a corn and shrimp chowder that was delicious. A little spicy but I like that. I also had the pulled pork mac n' cheese. Yummy and different with small diced sweet potatoes and crispy brussel sprouts. My sis had the vegetarian cheese steak and sweet potato fries, which she enjoyed and the kids had the pasta in marinara sauce with garlic bread and the mozarella grilled cheese with fries. No complaints from the kiddies on their meals and you know kids are hard to please! The service was warm and inviting. After an afternoon at Stone Mountain Park, this is exactly what we needed to cap off the day. Give this place a try, you won't regret it! read more

My husband and I (aka gay male couple) were in Stone Mountain doing an errand and needed a late lunch pronto. Sweet Potato Cafe came up first and it was a block away so we decided to check it out. Unfortunately there was a 'Sorry, We're Closed' sign in the window. It was nearly 2 but my husband was curious if the place was permanently closed or not so he walked up and in. He discovered that the were open and had that sign up for crowd control as they were understaffed. Because we were a party of two, they would take us. It's always good to check in, I guess but not sure the closed sign method is the best idea. We found the staff to be nice and I like the open kitchen arrangement. The restaurant and menu reflect the sweet potato theme while not necessarily being southern or soul food. We ordered the chicken pesto panini and the turkey burger and both were well made, unique, and delicious. The sweet potato fries seemed fresh cut and were tasty. Those, three drinks, and a slice of caramel cake came out to under $40 which is a nice price. read more

The Cafe itself truly resembles what I imagine a cafe to look like. It's an older home in Stone Mountain Village. They really do take Sweet Potato's seriously here. If you like sweet potato's this is the place to go. They serve them in plenty of different ways. We ordered the Crispy Sweet Potato's.- diced potato's, goat cheese, candied pecans, molasses maple glaze, and rosemary salt. So good! Loved everything... like going over to Auntie house and arriving in time to eat dinner " with family". My first time so I was looking to be impressed and I was. Sweet potato was wonderfully and deliciously complemented throughout the menu selections. I had the meatloaf entree with greens, soufflé and broccoli but I made room for dessert (you guessed it - sweet potato pie). This is a gem of a farm to table restaurant just off the main thoroughfare (1- 2 blocks) in Stone Mountain. The owners and waitstaff obviously work hard to make sure you have a nice experience. My family and I have patronized this business for years, but after visiting this restaurant twice for two important family celebrations--Mother's Day and Father's Day both after church for brunch, I'm HIGHLY disappointed! On Mother's Day, I brought my mom expecting a relaxing, celebratory meal, but we were met with long wait times (even with a reservation), inattentive service, and a true lack of staff. I chalked it up to the holiday rush and gave the benefit of the doubt. However, when I returned for Father's Day this past Sunday with my dad, the same issues--and more--were present including the broken air conditioner! The staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized. Our server barely checked in on us and we had to keep asking her for bring items that we previously requested. The food took an excessive amount of time to arrive, and when it did, it was undercooked for my mom's meal which was also disappointing. Both days were meant to celebrate two people I love and appreciate. Instead, they left feeling underwhelmed and frustrated. Southern comfort food is our favorite and Sweet Potato Cafe puts their foot in it (fyi: that's a southern idiom for exceptional cooking). Today was my second time trying this place. The first time I only had the biscuits (so good by the way). Today was an odd experience. When we walked in a gentlemen asked us if we were dining in, we responded yes and he didn't move lol there was another server running food. I guess he was on break or off. She had to ask him to seat us. I ordered the salmon croquettes and I hated them. I could've cried because it's so far from what I expected. I was a little apprehensive about staying anyways because after we were seated I over heard another table complaining about there food. The server's explanation regarding the marinara sauce was "yeahhhh she does make it a little different". So, now I'm wondering what else is made "different" here. I learned fast. It's the salmon croquettes. The server gave me the same explanation when I told her it was nothing like I expected. The croquettes were chunky like crab cakes. I'm use to a more smooth, blended texture when it comes to salmon croquettes. They were fried hard and I don't think the salmon was seasoned. There was peppers mixed in but I didn't taste any flavor. The batter the were fried in and the sauce on top was the only flavor. I feel like they were made with frozen salmon to give the look of fresh salmon but fresh salmon has a very distinctive taste that these were missing! I was hungry and this experience was so unfortunate. The server was nice but she was slow. I think she was the only one working though so that could explain it. She tried to help me find a substitute for hot sauce because they were out. I can say I supported and gave it an honest try. Adorable cafe with very attentive and courteous staff. Even refilled my drink without me asking. Lots of outdoor seating options in addition to indoor. Prices are super reasonable and there wasn't a long wait to receive my order. Loved that they provide hand sanitizer and have a newish checkout process that allows you to pay via QR code.
