I've had positive experiences here over the past year as I've moved into a new condo, painted, and done some minor DIY projects. While their paint selection isn't as large as the mega-home stores, for painting ceilings, trims, bathroom areas, etc. they have all the paint and tools you'd need, at reasonable prices, and with great personalized service. Even though I didn't always know what I was looking for, and don't know the names of all the screwdriver and wrench types, the guys here have been patient, and never patronizing, as I've gotten other places. I was searching for hardware to replace screws that were missing from the brackets on a towel rack. I had checked Home Depot, but they don't carry metric hardware. So, I called ABC Distributors and they recommended that I try Cherrydale Hardware. I showed up with the brackets assuming that I would be searching for the hardware I? needed, but that wasn't the case at all. I was immediately greeted by the guy at the counter when I walked in, and he asked me what I was looking for. I showed him the bracket, he called over one of the other employees and tasked him with finding what he referred to as a set screw (I didn't know what it was called prior to that). The guy knew exactly where the set screws were. He took the brackets and found the ones that fit. It was a great experience, quick and easy. They cost 40 cents each, and if I'm ever in the market for metric set screws again, I'll definitely be back. read more

While Cherrydale doesn't have as much variety as Ayer's they sure do have hardware down, and even best Ayer's in some areas. Cherrydale has a huge selection of grade 8 bolts, so if you need something for your racecar, go kart, or hang glider, they probably have it. read more

This place has been around for as long as I can remember. It is such a more low-key experience to go here instead of a chaotic, frustrating place like Home Depot or Lowes, where you feel like you have to spend a mile walking in either direction looking for, say, a lightbulb. At Cherrydale Hardware, it's small enough to not be overwhelming, but isn't overly cramped. Instead of spending 10 minutes searching for an employee to help you find something, there are always one or two people standing right by the entrance to this hardware store, asking you what they can help you find. Great hardware store. I've gone there many times for screws, bolts, etc and I've always found what I'm looking for. Staff is super helpful!! Detailed story: The other day I went by there because my front bumper had lost a bolt and was kind of hanging off of the chassis...didn't know what I needed to fix it. One of the guys there asked me if I needed any help and I told him the situation and without hesitation he guided me outside to show him what I was talking about. He knew exactly what was needed, went back into the store, grabbed an automotive screw, popped it in and boom, problem solved. All of that for 65¢!! Thanks guys! read more

After 70 days at my house I ventured out to Cherrydale Hardware to get what I needed to stop mice from getting into our kitchen. As an old guy with health issues I wore a mask, goggles and gloves. When I stepped back a few feet from the counter as I paid I got grief from the guy I'd dealt with for years. "You're not being respectful of me by stepping back," he said. "If you're that afraid of the virus you should have stayed home". Big joke to him making me feel small. I guess 100,000 dead are not enough for him to skip contempt for a guy who fears the virus. In an era of Ace hardware chains with know-nothing employees it's good to know that there are still a few old-time independent hardware stores with knowledgeable staff. I've been to this place twice for small, fairly obscure items. Both times the employees knew exactly what I needed and led me through the maze of aisles to the right part. Friendly customer service is obviously as important to these folks as having a fully stocked store. I just hope they can stay in business. They are a real gem! read more

My fault for showing before they open, I guess. Ten minutes before opening, they start bringing some of the stuff out for display. I wait until it seems that they were done (they were fast). I go in to look for flower food and one of the customer service experts in the store comes to me and as I'm opening my mouth to ask him about it, he scolds me for coming into the store because they were still technically closed, even thought their door was wide open. So I apologized for trying to be a customer and asked the guy if I should wait outside... he said "yes ma'am". Right at 8:30 am, a lady flips the sign and invites me in so I went already kind off annoyed by the previous treatment. Another guy was nice and tried to help me, but the store ended up not having the food for fresh cut flowers. Would the first guy had approached me differently (ex1. kindly informed me that their lovely store was still not open, but to wait outside and/or in the meantime ask me what I needed), this sad review would have been avoided. I was not expecting to be yelled at early in the morning even if it was my fault. By reading other reviews, it seems like this is how they work. Dude, chill. Is this how angrily you start your days? Did it really frustrate you that I came into the store 8 minutes too early? My first and probably last time in there. read more

These guys never fail you. I moved out of Arlington but had trouble matching a screw of the right length to a knob in my new place. I'd been to Home Depot twice (& I hate that place) and even with assistance ended up with the wrong thing twice. Today I went out of my way to stop at Cherrydale Hardware, walked in and said "I need help," and I was out the door with the right thing in about 2 minutes. Worth the extra distance. read more

Well stocked with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Stopped by this morning to get keys copied and was helped as soon as I walked in. Each staff member was eager to assist every customer that walked in. The keys work and were a totally reasonable price ($2 each). Great mom and pop hardware store that's handy in a pinch. Friendly service. I've driven over from Columbia PIke just to get a few things because there are no small hardware stores near me. Of course the prices are inflated somewhat because they have to compete with all the home depots in the area but, i'd glady pay a little extra to get some supplies I need fast, rather than driving out to big box shopping centers and dealing with long lines and traffic and unfriendly staff. read more

I like that I can walk here and it's nice to support a store other than Home Depot. The staff is usually young but they seem to be able to help you when you need it. I got gloves and some other things. Later, I relized I didn't need the calk (that I had previously purchased) so I returned it with great ease and no wait. I agree with Peter - for normal hardware type stuff, this is much more convenient than Home Depot. The employees are helpful and knowledgeable and I've never had to wait in much of a line. It's amazing that they can fit so much stuff into such a small store without it being a fire hazard, yet its still pretty easy to find everything. read more

The rarest thing in "suburbia" (I use quotes because most of Arlington is more of a transition zone between urban and suburban), an old time Hardware store. Helpful staff (that apparently know where everything is and can make solid recommendations). That old-timey store where every nook and cranny is stuffed with the hardware items to buy. I had the best experience here! The staff is so nice, attentive, and goes the extra mile. I went in for a watch battery and mouse trap and the employee helped me immediately. He even switched out my battery for me. I've never shopped for mouse traps before so he was able to walk me through my 7+ options. He got me one where I wouldn't have to see the mouse. will only be going here in the future for my hardware + home needs. You would definitely not get this level of service at Home Depot. read more

Wanted to drop my hat in the ring to agree with what most other reviewers say: though it's small, Cherrydale Hardware's selection is decent, prices are good, and its many staff members are attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, and even sometimes really funny. Their aim is very clearly to get you what you need. They've even referred me to another local business when they didn't have the out-of-season garden item I needed. I love to support smaller businesses. This place is awesome. They actually have people there to help you find things!! Unlike Home Depot where you have to send smoke signals to lure a sales person in your direction, Cherrydale had a person greeting you as soon as you entered store to help you. I was looking to MacGuyver a clothing hanging bar for a wardrobe box for moving...the guy who helped me was great! He even bent the metal bar for me free of charge. The prices are reasonable! The store was swarming with people but if wasn't overwhelming and there was no wait. I highly recommend Cherrydale Hardware!! read more

Ill sum up this place with one example of why they are great. Didn't have a metric M4-.7 45mm stocked, but had the 40 and 50mm sizes. The staff took and cut 6 bolts down to the 45mm size. Tell me where else you'll find that level of customer service? read more

Gotta say, totally rock-solid service at this place. Staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. One employee patiently assisted my husband today for a good 15 minutes as he looked for faucet adaptors and could not have been nicer about it. No, selection isn't as big as a big box store, but what they do offer all seems to be of high quality. Besides, do you REALLY need 50 brands of the same size of faucet adaptors? There's plenty of parking alongside the store and the location itself is easy to get to. I too support the idea of the "Mom & Pop" business, fighting valiantly against the chain stores. And to put my money where my mouth is, I've bought stuff at Cherrydale Hardware over the years. Until this last time. I bought some Drylok Latex Basement Waterproofer for $35.99 there. Then I saw that Home Depot has it for $19.99. I expected to pay a little more at Cherrydale--but nearly double? That's highway robbery. Yes, the guys working there are eager to help--but they don't always know much about home repairs. Nor would I expect them to, as most of them look to be in high school. I'd like this business to survive, but not if it's going to price its products so unconscionably high. read more

Cherrydale hardware is kind of the ugly step-sister to Ayer's variety and hardware. It's a true hardware store (no variety component), so it's not really a place for the kids. Still, for a small shop, they have a surprisingly good selection. Now, it's not Home Depot, but it's a convenient choice. Service was also very friendly and helpful. Cool local hardware store. Came here to buy some gardening supplies. They had a good, but not great selection here of potting supplies. Seed selection was limited though. They do have lots of hardware supplies though and the staff is super friendly and useful. Mostly I like this place because it's local and has this great quirky home grown feel to it. read more

After an annoying and frustrating trip to Home Depot where I was told they could not copy my key and that this particular key was hard to copy, I went to Cherrydale. I should have gone there first! Very friendly, greeted at the door by a salesperson who immediately asked what I needed. They were also able to copy my key in about 5 minutes. I think the price was $3.50 per key. Very fast and friendly service. Would highly recommend going here before driving over to the crowded Home Depot at Seven Corners!! read more
