During this time I've come to the realization that there are few, if any, advantages to using a travel agency that can't be done yourself with a minimal amount of search time and decent internet skills - many times saving quite a bit of cost. There are always certain types of travelers, such as the affluent or those who prefer to be hands-off with their travel plans, that can benefit from an agency. But I would encourage anyone thinking of traveling either domestically or internationally to first see what options they can find on their own. Both experiences left me asking "how have they stayed in business all these years?" Experience 1. My wife and I made an appointment with the agent. She seemed to ignore our questions and she spoke to my wife like she was an idiot. We walked out saying that we'd never return. She was rude and if we had allowed her to book our trip, it would have been a disaster. Experience 2. I knew I was passing by the agency and was looking for information about Caribbean all inclusives. When I arrived there was a sign on the door saying to call for information or email. Since I was in the parking lot, I called, twice. For some reason, the call would not go through. Finally, I knocked on the door. One employee walked to the door and tersely pointed at the sign. I said I tried to call. I know that they were aware of my presence as the agent we spoke with before looked out on me trying to call. The first agent said I should go back to my car and try again. Their phones were fine. I know that these are tough times because of Covid. But their attitudes cost them around a $4000 booking. Again I have to ask, how have they stayed in business while treating their clients so rudely? Don't waste your time unless you like to be abused.

Then I ask if they were able to give me information about one of the rail passes packages that Amtrak offers and again I was told they were able to do that. Then I ask if they were in Knoxville, TN and I was told that yes they were only they had recently relocated but were still in Knoxville, TN. Then he ask how many were in my party, and I told them one. The attitude immediately changed and he then told me to call Amtrak directly. I told him that it seemed to me that he did not want to work with me due to the fact that I was only one. He said, "that is exactly right".
