Adam and I came here with a friend from the area who comes here often. It was a pretty cool place. There is a ton of artwork all over and I loved seeing that. It can seriously keep me occupied for way too long. We came on a Saturday afternoon so it wasn't too busy. We went up to the bar and we were able to get drinks right away. My friend and Adam got beers and I got a cider. We were able to sit at a table. The window blinds were open and it was hot (duh) bit thankfully as soon as we sat at the table someone came over and put all the blinds down making it bearable. Che's Lounge is a great hangout spot on fourth avenue. It has a large smoking patio with a small patio bar and a stage. The inside is fairly small and that's usually where all of their bands play, so it can get very crowded. The staff is very friendly and down to earth. Drink prices are standard. The "Tucson Water" cocktail is to die for- it even has a salidito inside of it Che's also has probably on of the best juke boxes in Tucson, along with a two player Ms. Packman machine and a sticker machine with stickers made by local artists. I recently finally had the opportunity to stop by Che's Lounge--clearly a Tucson institution, but I'm admittedly someone who doesn't go out a lot much these days, sooo... :) But we stopped by, and one of the best things about Che's is the outdoor patio. Outdoor patio space is a pretty coveted commodity in Tucson and Che's has a fairly large one. I can also see how the inside can get pretty crowded on a busy night. But that patio... it's golden. read more

Kind of strange ..... I guess this is the Way of the 4th. People do not really stay on a Saturday night. They flow in and out to see and be seen. Quite the cast of characters. The live music was great, no space to dance. I recommend getting a seat and enjoying the people show. I need to go back when not crazy packed. I ended up standing on the sidewalk to listen to music. We had a lovely evening until the owner approached us because we paid our bill by card but because we didn't add gratuity on bill he approached us in front of everyone and asked what the problem was and asked us to leave the thing was we were paying tip cash. When we Approached him to speak of the issue he immediately had us removed from the premises. I've never had a more inappropriate and unprofessional experience in my life and to be removed from the premises because the owner is such a small minded asshole we will never return read more

Frequent this bar enough and you will start to get to know the staff, who rock! I go a couple times a week, and love to go on Sunday's for their Bloody Mary. If you're wondering what a 4th Ave Tucson bar is like.. this is your golden ticket. It's definitely not upscale, but they do have a stage out back where you can catch live music. They also do live music inside in front as well on Saturday's usually. One of my favorite things about this bar is the prices. They pour a good drink and do not overcharge you. They place great music at night and the patio is always a fun place to hang out. It's one of my favorite places to hang out just for the casual atmosphere. read more

Ches is THE quintessential 4th ave bar. It's old...it's dark and yes it can be smelly. But it's Ches! A place to grab a cheap beer or a Long Island ice tea if you can Brave it. Plus, they have Photo hunt games. Not my top pick but certainly not the worst. read more

My first time here, we came as a group of four and one of our group was very obnoxious. The bartenders here are terrific, the gave him boundaries and didn't let him step out of them. It's warm, and friendly and definitely a great place to grab a brew and chill. read more

I can not believe this place is still open! Its garbage the staff is rude af, a couple years ago the old bartender even made homophobic remarks and threw out my best friend just because he didn't tip enough, he had already generously tipped the previous time he ordered drinks....as he walked out without any resistance the bouncer was just froggy af and pushed him from behind onto the floor because he wasn't walking fast enough... ive seen the bouncers punch a girl in the face because she was wasted outside the front door. I could have given them a better review... if they had actually let us in. This was our last stop of the night on our Arizona Party Bike trip. The butthead at the front door saw someone in our party step off the bike and take a drink of his beer. He immediately pointed at him and said, "He can't come in because he's been drinking in public". Then he pointed at another in our party and said, "Neither can she"... same reason. Note to this Neanderthal: denying entrance to a group of 12 ready to spend money in your bar is really bad for business. We stopped there because there were loyal customers in our group. Watermelon Margaritas!!!! They've got them some fresh watermelon and will serve it up any which way you can think of. Perfect for a hot day- take it out the patio. Since it's the direct competition to my friend's lair - cannot really be 5 stars... Still - I liked the Che. Hoeggarden and Fat Tire on the tap made me happy, as well as the art on the walls. Very locally produced - from what I heard. The jerk who pat my shoulder to tell me that I had to sit somewhere else because I was too much of a distraction did not (make me happy, that is), though. But the bouncer is good and he was out of there after a few more poor attempts to find himself a lady...... Small space, be prepared to stand! read more

This place is run by cool folks and well drinks are 2 bucks so let's give plusses where plusses are due. If you're lucky enough to get a spot in the back corner of the bar or a darkened table, this bar is the best. Be prepared to meet some of downtown's finest drunks if you show up here, particularly before 4 p.m. or after 1 a.m. It can be too loud in there when bands are playing, and too loud in general if you want to cozy up to your very beautiful boyfriend and whisper sweet-somethings, but I get a very distinct singles vibe to this place. It was my favorite place to be when I was in town on vacation and slutting it up. You can almost always break a guy off his pack of wolves and astound him with your drunken attentiveness. Definitely head there if you're looking for the next PBR, the next lush who will break your heart, or the next doe-eyed boy who'll make out with you sloppily on a Thursday night in front of a shuttered-up Puff-n-Stuff. read more

Me and my partner found this place on New Year's Day. It was a quite on 4th Ave. with only a few places open, Che's Lounge was one of them. It was perfect, we ordered their Bloody Mary's which were pretty good. We liked this place so much that we came back the day before we were leaving out of town again. Having been marooned in the Midwest for the past four years, I am starved for the kind of rocker bars that are the paradoxical blend of friendly and rough around the edges, of cozy and tough. Imagine my content at walking into Che's. From 4pm to 6pm on a Wednesday afternoon, my two colleagues/buddies and I put down some beers and decompressed while surrendering to the comforting silence of being lost in people-watching. The bartender was awesome and recommended my getting a pint of Dragoon: "It's local. It's strong. It's delicious." Indeed it was all those things. She also told me that I shouldn't close out my tab and I acquiesced despite my assurance that I would not get another beer. Half an hour later I found myself bellying up to the bar again. Damn her divination! The patrons' age-range delightfully spans from 21 to 60. Lots of locals and regulars. Lots of rockers, hipsters, hippies, and former skaters. But also just some Arizona characters that don't fit in any of those categories. I love that mixture. Felt right at home - immediately at ease. Love the artwork on the walls. Love the mirrors and christmas lights. The jukebox is a nice touch. Everything felt laid back and welcoming. Looking forward to checking out the nocturnal scene in the summer. read more

You just can't beat the $2 cocktail (no, not the blueberry margaritas, but just about everything else). The local art is fantastic, the jukebox almost unrivaled, and the bartenders are fast, friendly, and hip. The crowd is eclectic - gay, straight, collegiate, inked, tweaked, etc. I did see a crazy young chick lift her shirt and suck her own boob outside the window in the smoking area which is a bit over the top trashy, but that's not the norm. I like to go down forth because you can always find a place that is having a good time and Che's is definitely one of those places! This is like a dive bar that is known by everyone. It is very small and sometimes you do have to stand because it is packed with people but they always have great drink specials and the staff is very nice. Not the place to go if you want a relaxing pint to pass the time and chat with your friends on the weekend. Rude rude rude. Came here for a bday party. The waitress was so rude. We will never be back again. The waitress cursed at us for blowing out "her candles" then had us kicked it out when we tried to relight them. She cursed at another group of people who tried to help us in lighting them. You know a place is good when your biggest complaint about it is that there are too many damn people going there! Che's Facts: (1) Che's always has a $1 beer on tap. It's usually High Life but occasionally other (better) stuff, too. (2) Che's has a badass jukebox. One of my favorite things to do is pump in $5 (or $10 if I've already had a few beers) and treat the patrons to some high quality PUNK ROCK. (3) Che's has a cabinet video game machine with many classic games on it. One of the bartenders is the master of Defender, and he will whoop your ass if you try to challenge him. (4) They regularly toss exceedingly drunk people out rather than continuing to serve them. As an exceedingly drunk person, this can be a bit inconvenient, but it's the right thing to do. :) read more

I went to Che's lounge for the first time and will not be going back. The atmosphere is great and so are the drinks however one of the bartenders an overweight bald bearded man who works there was so incredibly rude. He asked to see my ID which I showed him then proceeded to read the weight on my ID out loud and announce it to everyone sitting at the bar saying "116 pounds that's pushing it" presumably fat shaming me for being 116 pound 5'6 female. He tried to play it off as a joke when I asked him if he was calling me fat but reguardless of the person that is incrediblly rude and unacceptable. I have no clue who in their right mind would think that's a funny joke but I hope it is never repeated to anyone else. I am very disappointed a grown man would tell a 21 year old girl that, but it may be time the bar review who their employees are. read more

Now I have had to think hard about this review. I love this place. So I want to do it justice. It is not for everyone, that is for sure. But it is for me. I love the vibe. Casual not pretentious. Great art. Great regulars. A good pour on a cheap drink. I love it! So many great memories have been linked to this place. Perfect combination of strong cheap drinks, creepy as hell art, old school video games, and the BEST jukebox in Arizona. An everyday bar where it's hard as hell to ever get bored. Except maybe if someone plays the entire collection of Johnny Cash on the jukebox. Please people, keep your worship sessions in your home. What makes the jukebox even better then its amazing mix of fantastic music, is that the dudes who run Che's pay great attention to it like they do to the art in Che's and everything else. They don't ever let the place get stale. They are always putting in new, great CDs and changing out the art, and bringing in music acts and different beers and such. They care a lot about their bar and keeping it fresh and it shows. You will also see them around town at concerts and events and such. I don't think they ever miss an Art Brut show. They love pub music that everyone can sing along and get rawkus to and try to bring that to Che's. It's rare to find owners so in love with their bar, keeping prices low, and keeping their customers happy. read more

Bad things about Che's on a Saturday night: Crowded, extremely loud, a rude variety of people that spill drinks on you...maybe grab parts of you that you do not want to be grabbed. I sit on the fence with Che's and I am usually more disappointed each time I go visit and my tolerance for people tends to dip extremely low...which is sad, I usually like people. read more

I love Che's. Oh, how many a night has started here and ended badly? I can't even count... $1 HighLifes and $2 wells do not usually make for responsible drinking. The art is great. Or, at least interesting, anyway. The jukebox is fantastic. I love the atmosphere in afternoons, in the evenings, but I generally HATE the place on Friday and Saturday nights (and this is why it gets only 4 stars, which is really not the fault of Che's so much as the throng of kids, just turned 21 who come to wreck my joy). I don't find myself at Che's quite so often these days, knowing, as I do, how nights begun at Che's have a tendency to end poorly. Drink prices are great and the layout is nice. However, the only downside of this bar is the staff. Every single time I have gone the staff give off a condescending, unfriendly, and irritated vibe. They seem to have a set expectation for visitors and don't treat people as individuals, rather, just another drunk to kick out of the bar. My friends and I used to joke Che's was our second living room. It's a great place to hang out and have day drinks. High quality people watching on 4th Ave. The bartenders are amazing, I've never had anything less than a great bloody mary there. Prices are great, seating is decent, the juke box is diverse, AWESOME art and there's free live music every Saturday night. I can't wait for summer when the "watermelon thing" comes back! I frakin' LOVE Che's...from the magnificent artwork to the stiff drinks...def one of my Tucson Faves. I especially love Donovan the bartender who is also an amazing local artist; many of his brilliant pieces actually grace the walls of this fine establishment for your viewing pleasure. As a Tucson native i can say this is a discusting bar, instead of being so concerned about wearing masks, they should really pay more attention to the state of their bathrooms. Womens bathroom was disgusting, full of urine and trash.. seriously talk about hypocrisy. My boyfriend and I just ate downtown no problem, but these door men were rude and ridiculous... if they care so much the bartender should be wearing gloves, and the staff should keep their dirty fingers off my drinks. Our server keep coming to our table every 5 minutes and literally picked up our beers to check if they were empty. Not coming back to this nasty bar again!!! read more
