We get dinner at Chesterland Tavern all the time and it's normally pretty lively! Lots of people who know each other, skiers having a meal before heading out, big groups with kids after events. This place does major work and it does it well. They run like a well-oiled machine. The menu is comforting and large. Vegetarian friendly. I get the wedge salad every single time because it just hits so good and is a generous crispy fresh hunk of iceberg and I switch out blue cheese for ranch but I am a sucker for house made buttermilk ranch. I'm just as excited to take it down every time it comes out of the kitchen. The back patio has live music and is a lot of fun in the summer time. Not ever going back. Great server, awful management. Ok they have always had a great patio and average food. Burger decent though. I ordered a Glenlivet scotch. I should have known the spell it Glen Livet and charge $6.75-$7.25. Should have been my first clue. Not sure what they served me but it was not single malt scotch. I said to the server sorry but I tasted it and awful. She said no problem and took it back. I passed on anymore scotch. Minutes later the bar manager was out to see me with attitude and a bottle of Glenlivet. I politely replied to her icy tone of voice that not sure why you came here and showed me a Glenlivet bottle, but sorry that is not Glenlivet. She was not happy and left. Found out that she gets docked by management $7.25. The server a nice young girl was shaken up by the whole incident and she said she would pay for the drink. WTF kind of management???? I said no out it in my tab. Awful! They had a band playing until 10 and at 8:30 they started cleaning up and moving the chairs forward on most of the table because it was a sparse crowd. We are listening to the band and it looks like they are closing. A mess and bad for the band. BTW my medium burger was cooked to death. Didn't send it back became did not want my server to be docked. You can do better. Six of us were out for drinks. I walked over to the bar and it was full. I looked over at the patio and saw 5+ tables available. When asking for a table for beverages the person stated he could not seat us just for beverages and would have to sit at the bar. When I told him there was no room at the bar he said we'd just have to wait. The inside bar was closed. So basically they could not accommodate us and the lost $100+ of revenue. I've patronized this establishment many times in the past. Again, you can do better. read more

We had a decent experience here. Was able to be seated quickly, waitress took our drink orders and we settled in quickly. Nice beer selection on tap and full bar. Spinach artichoke dip was very good; good portion and nice flavor. Pretzels were ok. Dinner was served in a timely fashion. The buffalo chicken wrap was excellent with a little heat. Fries were fresh. Cheese quesadilla was good. Would not recommend the Margherita flat bread. It just doesn't meet the standard that someone is looking for when ordering that. Service was quick and very friendly. Clean place. The only issue was the glasses and water smelled. Asked for replacements but issue continued. Must have been a water issue related to what they were washing in? I don't know I just know it was a problem for us and impacted the experience. read more

Went here for the first and last time. Upon entering, it was confusing as whether we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. The foyer was dark and had no signage of where to go. The place was nearly empty and this was at dinner time. Finally, the hostess and the manager, standing on the other side of the room looked at us and motioned for us to come over to them. When we walked over, they acted as though we were an imposition on their time. We told them we were meeting another couple there, and since we'd never been there before, we were unsure of their seating procedure. With an attitude of irritation, the manager asked if we had checked their rooms to see if our friends were already there. We said no but we knew they were there because we parked next to their car and we were supposed to meet them in the patio area. We were told the patio wasn't opened and then asked if we knew where we were and if we went to the wrong place. The manager was not very professional and suggested we call our friends to see what restaurant they were at. At that point, my husband walked out if the restaurant and walked around back to the patio area to see our friends seated and waiting for us. We sat down with our friends and ordered something to drink. After perusing their dinner menu, we ordered dinner and were totally UNDERwhelmed by their foid. Their Chicken Paprikash was more like soup, the Spaetzle was doughy, and the Chicken was in little pieces and there was hardly any. My suggestion, save your money and avoid this place. read more

From the start everything was amazing!! We arrived before our party bc the venue we were originally booked at was closed. What a blessing!! The host was very friendly. We were seated strait away. Our server was very personable. Very kind and quick. The food was AMAZING!!! my fiancee and I were so full we took some home and the next day leftovers were delicious as well. It is about a half hour from our house but I will definitely be back frequently. The fries and coleslaw alone are a go to. Started getting very busy around 530pm and the staff did not disappoint. 10 out of 10! Very impressed and I have been in the industry for about 20 years. Highly recommend!! read more

Frankly, I can't believe a restaurant of this caliber exists in sleepy little Chesterland! I've been going here for years and consistently have an EXCEPTIONAL experience. The service, the food and even the ambience - particularly when seated outside on the beautiful patio - simply cannot be beat - especially at this price point (I think the most expensive entrée on the menu - salmon - is $19). I've also sat at the large, open, airy bar and watched these guys make drinks - they definitely don't skimp!! And yes - rather than print new menus each month to keep up with runaway food prices - they include a small service fee with each check. But they're completely transparent about this and, frankly, it didn't bother me a bit. I'd rather they come right out and tell me what they're doing than attempt to hide these additional costs in higher food prices. Keep up the great work guys! We had been here before and enjoyed it very much. Arrived early Saturday at 4:20 to secure a nice shady patio seat. The man seating people in the patio offered us one table where our heads were in the sun. There were many tables fully in the shade including the table right next to the one we were offered. He would not seat us in the shade because those servers weren't there yet. We'd have to wait 30 min if we wanted to sit in the shade. This restaurant is right around the corner from my house, so we tried it again. The server was mildly rude but young, so ***. We both had burgers, I ordered mine medium. I should have ordered rare because it was more like well done. It was chargrilled on the outside like it was left too long on the flat top. Maybe I should have sent it back. I also asked about onion rings, she said they had petals. I asked what they were and she acted put out to have to tell me. If my son, a Chef, wasn't there to describe them I never would have know what to expect. On the plus side the atmosphere was great and I could tell those around us were regulars. With some exceptions. Bar manager holds it together and keeps it professional. Unfortunately, ownership and other bar staff is incompetent and rude to even regular guests. Cannot recommend. The staff at the Chesterland tavern is amazing! The main drawback is the poor quality of their fountain drinks, especially the water which tasted like rotten boiled eggs. The smell in the bathroom was also unpleasant. The only way to get a decent drink is to buy a bottled beverage or alcohol. The food was okay, but hopefully they will address the water problem. I'm very happy the server who understood our concerns and dissatisfaction with the drinks. read more

We went last night for dinner, around 6 pm, & got seated right away. I asked for a "quiet" table & it still was very difficult to her my guest across the table. The water was terrible. I take medication & vitamins so I had to order a bottled root beer to drink. My guest lives 10 min away & their well water is very good. This water needs to be treated. What are they waiting for? My guest got the mac & cheese which was excellent. I got the meatloaf dinner which was very good. Thank goodness I got the gravy on the side since it was not very good tasting. One of the best patios on the east side. Pretty good menu. Fried zucchini is awesome. Drink specials are so-so. The re-used plastic drink glasses are a bit ick. The reason for the three stars seems minor, but is more significant that one might think at first. The water. I don't know what was worse, the rancid taste or the putrid smell. Even the servers acknowledge how nasty the water is, and told how the owners grew up drinking well water, therefore, had no problem with it. The drinking water, fountain drinks, the ice tea, and ice cubes are all affected. Unless you drink only beer or wine, they have no other drinks to offer that are not affected. read more

We went there last night for our wedding anniversary and will never go back. We waited over an hour to be seated. Twice we were assured that the next table was ours, but both times they gave the table to another party that had gotten there after us. A complaint to the manager fell on deaf ears. He simply did not care nor did he offer to try and rectify the situation. He gave preferential treatment to larger groups over our "next" position in line both times. I have been to Chesterland Tavern twice, and I want to like it more. The bar is fun (especially the back bar/patio area). The first visit I had the pizza flatbread that was completely burned on the bottom. Try number 2 was made with the wrong toppings. I decided to hold off on try number 3. My next visit I tried the fish and chips. I love coleslaw, so I made sure I got that on the side. I have never tasted huge chunks of onion in Cole Slaw before, but I have now. And WOW is it terrible. Overpowering everything in the slaw. Not good. Fish was "ok" but nothing special or flavorful about it. I'll come back - just not to eat. read more

I was disappointed. We ordered burgers because it was their weekly special so they were a great price. We both added a fried egg. Usually that means it's over easy so when you bite or cut into the egg, the yolk runs out. They over cooked the egg and the yolk was solid. My son also had a plain burger and it was very well done. I haven't eaten here since I worked here two years ago. I'm home visiting and decided to stop in to see if the food was as good as it use to be and was not disappointed! The spinach artichoke dip is still my favorite, along with the buff chicken wrap and margarita flatbread. I highly recommend the french fries and mac n cheese too. The bartenders are great and the food always comes out hot. I definitely over eat, but the leftovers are always good for later. I had a very bad experience here. I ordered wings off a special menu. The special menu did not include the types of sauces for your wings. I ordered six mild wings and six garlic Parmesan wings. After receiving the wings, I realized the mild wings were very hot. After talking to the waitress and the manager, the only thing they could offer me would be to take my wings back to the kitchen, rinse them off, place them in the fryer, re coat them and bring them back to me. I was thoroughly disgusted with this option, as were the people I was dining with. The following day I contacted the owner just to let her know that the manager had offered such a ridiculous, unsanitary option. I was hopeful that the owner would be grateful for my concern and would enlighten the manager to never suggest such a disgusting option! Much to my dismay, the owner thought that the managers suggestion was fine! The owner felt that it would be best to take those wings back, rinse them off and refry them in the deep fryer.
