I love being able to stop here on our trips back and forth from SLT. Great store with gas, drinks, and snack. My only negative was the $11+ premade grab and go turkey sandwich. Ordinarily, I grab this type of food when desperate, so shame on me for grabbing it when I wasn't. It was possibly the worst ever. Hidden, wrapped in white paper, sitting in the cold case, it contained a very unimaginative hoagie roll containing one folded over slice of turkey, one soggy slice of cheese, one really flat wilted leaf of lettuce one long transparent slice of pickle. The condiment packs (Mayo and yellow mustard) are wrapped inside the paper. For $11 I had really high expectations, so I felt like a fool. No amount of mayo could make it better. read more

There are several gas stations and stopping points along Highway 50 but the Freshpond Trading Post is our go-to stop on the way back to the Bay from Tahoe. Why? The restrooms are clean, there's a fun gift shop that goes beyond the trinkets you can get at a regular gas station convenience store and there's a fresh deli counter. There are a selection of ready-made, grab-and-go sandwiches that will help you stay fueled for your trip. On our most recent stop, my husband got the roast beef sandwich and I got the salami sandwich. The roast beef one had plenty of meat, but my salami sandwich had only a very thin, single layer of meat. It was kind of weird because the bread was so fluffy. Weird proportions. Other than that, it wasn't bad. Maybe it was an off day or something, but I might try a different sandwich next time. I'll still be back! read more

The store has a large variety of things to buy. It has the normal food and drink convenient store items you would expect to find. It also carries some sporting goods, clothing, wood artwork and souvenirs. The assortment is surprising and not expected from a roadside store. The store and bathroom are clean. I like to stop and stretch my legs since the location is 45 Miles to the Nevada Stateline and about 60 Miles to Sacramento. The Parking Lot is large and can accommodate vehicles with trailers. The store is right off of Highway 50 making it easy to find and visit. Tip: You may want to add the store to your GPS before your trip. Celluar coverage is spotty up in the mountains. read more

On the way through this area we needed to stop by and get some gas. From the looks of nothing a gas station appeared and here we were at Freshpond. The name is semi cute and semi disturbing since it is a gas station. But the bathrooms were super clean and the inside had a lot of different items that you could buy. If you wanted a pair or sheep skin shoes you could get them. If you needed a frame for a picture this could be the one. Everything in the store was pretty random which I liked about it. There is a fun photo booth- if I remember correctly- the theme was a jail house. The gas price is slightly higher than other places but I'm very impressed every thing that this place can offer. For being the only store or gas station for several miles in every direction, this place is surprisingly shitty. I'm sorry this review is so bitter, but I don't subsist on Cheetos and Coke products when I go camping. No one cares about headbands, bracelets, t-shirts, hats, polished rocks, necklaces, or fifteen different styles of women's flip flops in the middle of the forest. What would it be nice for you to have here? More real food. Actual vegetables. Fruit. A larger selection of healthier snacks and bread options. More like a grocery store and less like a gas station. The pre-made food (potato salad, macaroni salad, etc) is nonsense. I got the baked potato salad and had one bite. It tasted like vinegar, cheap mayonnaise, and bacon bits? It was putrid. Freshpond Trading Post knows it's the only place around, so that's why you're going to pay $6.75 for a mediocre pre-made sandwich or $10.99 for a bottle of bug spray. That happened to be the last day of the July 4th Holiday, and even with a 9 AM departure, it was a long drive home. The gas prices here are more expensive than in Placerville down the road. But what you also get here is a friendly western store motif, lots of snack selections, a deli counter, and most important - clean restrooms. The woman at the counter denied my leashed, un-vested service animal at approximately 8:30 this morning. Instead of going to my car, vesting my animal, arming myself with paperwork, and attempting to re-enter the store, I simply exited without question and waited for my family outside. After my exit, my husband and children overheard this woman making rude comments that included foul language about me and my service animal to another staff member. When my husband confronted the staff, they proceeded to argue with him and ask for my animals vest and documentation. This is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a federal law. I am not required to vest my service animal, or provide documentation to anyone. I strongly suggest you educate your staff on the federal laws pertaining to service animals before they destroy your livelihood with a lawsuit. read more

I like this little gas station/mini mart! They have a place to stop designated for dogs, so it's a great place to stop on the way or way back from Tahoe. I have to give a 4 (not a 5) because um it is only a gas station / store (snack & gift shop). It is definitely a must stop for my hub & me - SF to Tahoe. The first time we stopped, years ago, I believe they had a deli with made to order sandwiches. Great snacks- everything imaginable and they have Bugles(!) every flavor I have and have not heard of! And cute quirky tees & sweatshirts. Staff is always nice and amenable. Bathrooms are always clean. Gas is a bit pricy if you don't get the 'Chevron discount'.
