I came here because it says it's open 24 hours. A lot of times when you use your card outside at the pump it puts a large amount on hold. So I wanted to go in, there was an older gentleman standing at the register on his phone or something. The sign on the door that says would return back at 3. Well its 3:26 am. I tried the door and i did like a signal like not open with my hand. He's nodding to me. And i did it again just to confirm, he just looked at me. So i return to my car and magically he goes to the door and then removes the sign. I left. I don't want to give my money to businesses who have employees who don't follow business protocol or keep the door locked beyond the time stated on the door and your clearly just standing there. read more

This would be a good Carwash when it's actually working. It's independently owned, not by the gas station. The credit card reader rarely ever has receipt paper to provide a receipt and the credit card only terminal doesn't always work. Maintenance doesn't appear to have been done on this washer for years so you're not going to get the best wash since not all the functions work properly. There is no posting of who to call or email for issues with the wash or get your money back. It's very filthy too with debris littering the bay. read more

Nice and new gas pumps in an easy central location to get in and out of just off the interstate and past an intersection. Was very clean and well-lit at around 10pm when we stopped in for gas. No issues here. Price was around average for the area - we did find some cheaper options once we left but it wasn't a huge difference. read more

Often places are out of paper! Convenience is good because it's located right next to the 163 for easy access. It's very strange to have a bit of a crush on a car wash, but last night's impromptu date at this Chevron station really surprised me. I had no plans to get a car wash. I've been burned so much by that ONE Shell gas station / car wash on Poway Road (you know who you are), the ONLY business to which I would give a 1-star review after several repeat visits. Those experiences have been so bad that I've pretty much sworn off automated drive-through car washes in-house at service stations. But sometimes you just have no time to go to a full-service car wash, and you've had it with the curtain of dirt on your vehicle, and so you say hit the "YES" button after filling up your tank when you're asked if you want to add a car wash for a few extra bucks. Cruising up to the car wash entrance, I immediately knew I was in for something different. A treat even. There was no roof to this open-air wash. And there were robotic arms shooting streams of water, spinning and spraying around the car ahead me, zipping back and forth like artificial intelligence. It looked new and modern, like something out of the 22nd Century catalog of car washes. When I pulled in slowly, there were green-lit signs on each side clearly outlining how far to drive in/out/stop and also to tell me what stage of the wash we were experiencing: 1) Cleaning, 2) Washing, 3) Polishing, 4) Surface Protectant, 5) Spot-Free Rinse, 6) Air Drying, and 7) Thank You (how polite!). A car wash has never been so, so...communicative. Usually you just sit in the darkness of your soap-and-water-engulfed car and wait, wait with the gear in park while you let the machine do its thing. One of the best parts was when the robotic arms raced back and forth across my Camry's panels, sending the cleanest, strongest, wettest downpour of water I have ever seen from the inside of my glass windows. I'm so used to a dribble here, a dribble there, but I was elated how these little hoses were really getting the job done. Wow. No malfunctioning, no confusion, and no time wasted as it was fast and easy, done in just a few minutes.. I got the "Basic" wash for $5, which had everything I needed, except a wax, although it did include a "clear coat protectant," which time will tell if it really does anything to keep my car looking clean. For $7, you get the basic wash plus the wax. I've never seen my car look so clean after an automated wash, so chances are I'll be back here for a second date next time I'm in the area. And if I don't, at least I had a lot of fun last night. read more

I always frequent this Chevron because its central, and the closest to work. Not to mention its next to all the major freeways, 163 and 805. The prices here are definitely not the cheapest, but it always fluctuates. I love how largely spaced the gas stations are from each other which gives a lot of room for movement. It gets packed sometimes, but its moves quickly. Not to mention their awesome drive through car wash which is lowered car friendly. It doesn't get every little spot clean, but does the job good. This review is only for the car wash service at Chevron. Back in the 90s when I went on car washes with my mom, the giant whirlpool brushes banging and shaking the entire vehicle always gave me the heebie jeebies. Today, I prefer my car washes to be gentle and less like being engulfed by a sea creature! hehe...The touchless Chevron carwash machines are seriously built by top engineers around the nation, with elegant robotic arms that jet out solution and reagents at an optimal force and softwares to help run the mechanics properly. The color codes and large signs are interactive and help guide how far to pull in during each stage of the cleaning process. Be sure to pay inside at the gas station first to get a code for the car wash. As of June 2016, there are three packages that ranges from $5 to $8. The Basic Wash ($5) is a foam bath and dry. The Delux ($7) includes foam bath, clear coat protectant, spot free rinse and dry. Can easily access the I-163 North & South onramps, it's not far from the Hwy 52, It's pretty much at the intersection of one of Kearny Mesa's major East-West streets (Balboa Avenue). They have a mini-mart for food/drinks/restroom. They have a pretty good self-service carwash available for $6-$8 and self service vacuuming station as well. Whenever I've needed water or air for my vehicle, the water/air station was tidy, and in working order. Their windshield squeegees weren't broken or worn down and the windshield solution didn't smell like it hadn't been changed in a month or so. I've been here after dusk and the gas station is well lit at night to make patrons feel safe. read more

I thought it was cool to try out the brushless car wash machine but i should have just hand washed my car as usual because it's true that it will not scratch your car but it won't clean it as much either unless you just want to "dust off" your vehicle and leave water marks after. This review is for the car wash. I bought a $7 mid grade wash. Touchless wash and the water pressure seemed pretty decent. The only catch with this is the blowdry after which lasts about a minute. You have to inch your car through it so the air hits all the parts of your car (the drier is stationary so you drive through it). I would use this wash again as it did a fairly decent job. Pay first though inside the store as the signs will tell you. You get your wash code on the receipt. read more

This is one of my favorite gas stations in San Diego. Competitively priced for this brand and the location right off the 163 freeway I have had nothing but good experiences with the staff and never received bad gasoline from this station. $1 car wash discount (touchless car wash) with 8 gal purchase. Clean and recently remodeled this is a very nice and large station - something like 23 pumps. Perhaps from the glory days when Balboa really was a state highway. Oh yeah, I forgot her name but there was some lady working there at one time who had to shut the car wash down due to some flooding while I was next in line and had already entered my code. I was ready to write the transaction off and she immediately offered me a replacement code and was going to come out to my car to deliver it to me before I met her inside the store. Little gestures like that go a long way. That and the cleanliness of this station. Access to the station can be challenging, especially from the Southbound 163 - you should exit at the second Balboa Ave exit. There is a cement divider across Mercury St and you can't turn left to access it if you use the first Balboa exit. Same for exiting the station. Best to head to the Mercury St exit, turn right, turn right again and enter the Southbound 163 freeway and immediately exit again and then make a right turn on Mercury back to Balboa. read more

I had an unfortunate exchange with an employee that was unprofessional and uncalled for. I was attempting to reverse from a pump.(~9 pm, Sunday night 2/7, not busy in terms of other cars) I turned my head to check behind me and saw the lot attendant, who seemed to be stationary to the right of my car. I turned my head to the other side and proceeded to reverse. I noticed as I was backing up that the lot attendant's vest came into view so I stopped until he was clear of the car. After he was clear, I noticed him mouthing something at me. I opened my car door to see what he was saying. "You need to pay attention." "You need to watch where you're going." His demeanor was excessively hostile and agitated. I found this to be unwarranted and extremely unprofessional. After standing there in disbelief of the lack of tact this employee had I asked him for his name. "Don't worry about it." I asked him again with the same result. "Don't worry, it's all on camera," was when I decided to leave. I actually knew another person at the station [that was at the pump I was reversing from]. They expressed that I wasn't even close to endangering the employee. It is frustrating to think that there are decent, competent people that are desperately seeking employment and are struggling while people as tactless and irrational as this particular employee have jobs that they don't deserve. read more

I work for door dash and I am always looking for a place where they are open 24/7 with a restroom. According to the girl I spoke with earlier yesterday she told me that as long as I purchase any item I can used the bathroom. When I went tonight to used the bathroom the attendant was inside his car. When I approached the door he came out his car and ask what I wanted I stated I wanted to buy something plus to used the bathroom. I picked an item that was 1 dollar and that's when he said that all you are going to buy I said yes all you have to do is purchase something and u can used the bathroom. That's when he started with you should by more and blah blah blah. To the end of the story I did not get to used the bathroom and you guys lost money and a customer because I dash in the Claremont area and I get gas from their. You should let your employee know that he should not be inside his car, to my knowledge he supposed to be inside the store not inside his car makes no sense to me. I know why if he was sleeping in their or resting, but his job is to help the customer and he should be inside the store, if he don't feel safe he can lock the door and open it when customers come but he should not be inside his car kinda and unprofessional I believe. read more

Need gas? This Chevron is usually the cheapest of the Chevrons I visit and the touch free wash is a nice... touch. Ha! Plenty of pumps to choose from. There's a big convenient store. Customer service is professional and nice. Very clean here too. If only the gas was a bit cheaper and the corner location makes it a bit inconvenient if you are heading north on the 163 but other than that, no complaints. Overall, as far as Chevrons go, this location is one of my favorites. Make sure to pay with cash or Chevron card to get a little discount! read more

Good location just off the 163 freeway... A ton of pumps - i think i counted 16 total. Decent sized convenience store. Prices not too high for the convenient area. Three entrances/exits which makes for an easy in and out fillup. Type in your Vons clubcard for 20 cents off per gallon (if you have enough points available). For some reason, I just had an amazing experience at this gas station. I went here, like any typical day, and went to go fill up my gas. I did my normal gas routine, hand the person in the back 20 dollars to fill up my tank, and started filling it up. Anyway long story short, the 20 dollars was used up yet my tank kept filling up.. all the way to 56 dollars -- a full tank. Not too sure what happened here but great experience.
