June, 2018 My review echoes what others are saying here. This place USED to be great. The customer service was deserving of 5 Stars. I went in there yesterday morning and the new employees were too busy chatting (which included a lot of profanity) to even notice me. No greeting, no asking if I needed any assistance...just very unprofessional. I walked out and gave someone else my business. I will never go back UPDATE: 11/11/19 I've come back. Today, I went to go fill up my gas and stepped in a 6 x 6 puddle of gas. At first, I thought it was a puddle of water from, say, a AC. Didn't think why someone would have their AC on such a cold day. Turns out, the gas nozzle had a huge leak. So, yeah it poured on my car paint. My question is, WHY. THE. HELL. WASN'T. THIS. GAS STATION YELLOW TAPED. SO now, my shoes reek of gas--I used a window washer to wipe the bottoms of to no avail. Hopefully, my floor mats aren't done. So, I went into the store to tell the gas attendants. Took them like five minutes to come out and pour kitty litter on the lake of gas. Drove by on my way home--still not yellow tagged. Wish I took a photo. Never go to this station. EVER. read more

I'd give zero if possible. Dave Carney was a piller of our community. Since he sold to corporate this place is SHIT hole central. Tonight (3rd time with same girl) I got gas. As usual, Sunday night Fill up. This worker was on SPEAKER phone with her jealous boyfriend who was accusing her of whispering and cheating ! I immediately confronted her and SHE told ME off! I really actually liked this Chevron. It DID have a nice little wine and beer selection. And the clerk was friendly enough to share where to go for a bite to eat. I ended up taking a lovely little drive towards the ocean. Oh, the self-serve gas? That was decently priced and no trouble. read more

It's very unfortunate and a bit disappointing to know Torrance has lost a great employer however, I understand why he sold Hillside Chevron. Now Hillside Chevron is owned by a corporation. This Chevron is a bit in the middle within pricing in the area. But once in a blue moon you'll see that this place can be cheaper than Crenshaw & Carson Chevron. But mostly I end up coming here for CONVENIENCE. This review is for the NEW G&M Chevron, corporate owned, NOT for the previous Hillside Chevron, owned by Dave Carney . In short, this station will NEVER live up to the stellar customer service that Dave Carney and his crew gave, day in and day out. This station is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of the former station; incompetent employees who literally, could not care less, unreliable product, both fuel and C-Store merchandise, one attendant didn't speak English, was super sweetly, but her side kick who served as a translator was rude af, looking nasty ghetto with her septum piercing- you don't turn your back to a customer when you're talking to them! Informed them pumps were running slow, they showed no interest, not that it would've done any good, they obviously lacked the proper training that would have given them the knowledge how to remedy the situation. And even if by some slight snowball's chance in hell that they knew how to fix it, they didn't care enough to actually fix it. If you have been here when Dave Carney owned it, you will be sorely disappointed, if not infuriated. After losing Patricia Swerer, his business partner of 20+ years, and the Manager of their sister station, Crenshaw Carson Chevron, Dave Carney retired in 2018. I give this review for one reason and that would be for the almost middle age attendant who works nights, with the shaggy haircut. He's always in a pissed off mood, usually the door is locked and he's running around doing who knows what. It's too bad because I like this gas station during the day and has some good people working. But recently I've been forced to go at night. The last time I went was around 11 and yelp said I had about 20 minutes before they closed. I know hours always are not right but pulled up and all lights were on. I walk up to the door and this guy looks at me, says "closed" and that was all. I get to my car and then he shuts off the pumps (all lights still on). I will probably avoid this station for as long as this guy works there. read more

Very friendly staff inside the gas station ( didn't catch this particular guys name ) but every time I've been here the employees are super friendly and helpful. Additionally today I needed my put air in my tires, I had no idea what I was doing . I wasn't even sure which tire was actually low ( my tire pressure light had just came on ) Ruben came over and offered me help. Place has seriously gone downhill since ownership changed. They run out of inventory every week and don't restock in time. I have been by on three different occasions when all pumps are down for testing or maintenance or some other problem. I have been in the store several times when the person behind the register is on her phone talking to someone. I stopped last week to grab some gas and a couple sodas. Went to go inside and the store was locked up. I guess they were on a lunch break. This has happened to me twice now. They used to have great micro brew sodas but now they just have the regular stuff everyone else has ie. Coke, sprite, etc... Place used to be a great gas station with a great little market. Used to look forward to going in the store and grabbing a different soda than the norm but this place has lost another customer today. I'm out. Hillside is going downhill fast. read more

3.79 for 91 soup. I say it is a alright price considering we get highly taxed here in the Golden/Desert State. I like going to Madronna or Riveria Chevron but Hillside is ok. Yes this gas station is right by a mound of hill hence the name. Filled up, went into the mini-mart and looked around for a bit and saw drinks, snacks, beer and whine in a seperate room, and candy. On ward to see if they had a protein shake...No they did not, so went to the clerk to get a receipt for my gas (since I didn't get one at the pump) and went on my way up the hill to use even more gas on my underpowered V6. read more

I sold the car after it was analyzed by a reliable truthful shop by the buyer. It was in the exact good mechanical conditions as I promised. NONE OF THE REPAIRS SPECIFIED BY HILLSIDE CHEVRON HAD TO BE DONE. None of the suspected repairs by Hillside had to be done. I wonder how many people who do not understand automobiles are being over charged for work that is not even being done. Several years ago, I needed a jump start and Hillside told be I needed a new battery and were going to refuse to jump start my car. I have built race cars once he found that out he tried to back out poorly. I never went there again. read more

Have been fueling here, in addition to popping into the store for snacks since 1996. The Vons redemptions are no longer easy to use, gas prices are much higher and the staff inside has no level of customer service. I will wait to get my gas at the Arco or Chevron further up the hill. read more

I was driving downhill on Hawthorne when the brake pedal on my SUV went down almost to the floor. With my car still moving forward at 40 MPH, instinct kicked in and I started frantically pumping my brakes which slowed the car. When I saw the Hillside Chevron station, I felt relief and managed to pull in, pumping my brakes like crazy. I parked in front, with my back end only 'slightly' in the round driveway, but not obstructing the flow of customers. When I was inside, trembling, an employee, Eva, told me to move my car. I explained what had happened and that I was scared to get back inside of my car but her reply was, "If you were able to make it here, than you should be able to make it out on the street to park somewhere else." I told her I was going to call AAA to tow my car to a repair shop while she continued to demand that I move my car immediately. A customer pumping gas, offered to look under the hood of the SUV, which he did, and found out I was low on brake fluid. When I went back inside to buy it, Eva was on the phone, telling me that she was talking to her boss and that he was going to have a truck come and tow my car away at my expense. I asked a young man who was working there which brake fluid I needed to purchase, but he didn't know. The customer that was helping me came inside and showed me which can to buy and then he poured the brake fluid in my car. It took maybe a minute for me to pump the fluid into the lines and have the brakes working again. When I thanked this nice stranger, he simply said if he saw his wife being treated the way I was being treated by the people at this station, he hoped someone would come along and help her out as well. Perhaps a lesson on customer service and human decency is in order at Hillside Chevron? read more

It's the most comfortable atmosphere I've ever been in within a Gas Station. Sometimes, I question to myself if its really a Gas Station because of unique it looks. However, the interior is probably the only good aspect of the establishment. The Gas Pumps are extremely limited, and sometimes getting into the Gas Station is more of a hassle then its worth. The best time to go is after 8pm, because then you aren't getting caught up in the rush hour traffic. read more

I used to love this facility when the previous owner operated it. The fuel prices were reasonable the car wash was amazing and I used to get my car serviced there and they did a great job. Apparently a new owner has has changed a few things. After a month after they took it over they shut the car wash and I was extremely disappointed. For 3 years I took my car there every two weeks and I also had it detailed every three months. The gas prices were competitive and reasonable. Now as of today I can buy premium for 10 cents a gallon less in Riviera Village at the Chevron. They also close the shop for breaks so that you cannot make a transaction periodically during the day. Truely not a "Convenient" store. I don't think I'll be going back any time soon until things change. read more

Also, I found out they own the auto repair shop across the street.. And I have seen them take cars out of the chevron repair. Over to their repair. A couple times getting gas... This place used to be so cool when it was privately owned. Great wines, craft beer, fresh fruit, and lots of everything. Corporate repulsiveness has ruined this convenience market, now all they offer is junk. Even the nice staff who worked there from before left because they were going to decrease their pay. What a shame that Dave sold this station. The mini-mart is a shadow of its former self, the detailing service is gone, and the gas nozzle auto-shutoff is so sensitive I can't get my Grand Cherokee more than half full, nor so much as an ounce of gas in my RAM van. I have no problem filling either vehicle at any other station. There was only one reason to go back, and that's to buy gas. We purchased a car detail from the Switzer Learning Center's 50th Anniversary celebration and we are happy to report that Hillside provided us with a PHENOMENAL interior and exterior detail on our Yukon! The online scheduling is user-friendly and attended to by Hillside as opposed to some online systems where your inquiry goes into oblivion. Hillside sent a reminder a few days prior AND they were ready for our auto bright 'n early Saturday morning @ 8am - 5 star service and thensome - thank YOU! The attendant in this gas station was rude and unreasonable. I went to this gas station to get gas around 7 pm today and I used the squeegee to clean the bird droppings on my windshield. One bird dropping was on the hood and when I used the squeegee to clean that, the gas station attendant yelled at me for doing that. read more

I have been going to Hillside Chevron for several years mainly because of their senor service on Tuesdays. Unaware that the station had changed owners and their customer service, I went there last week for their senior service on Tuesdays. I waited for several minutes and no one came out. I am 86 years old and have a hard time getting in and out of my car, so this service was important to me. I went in today, July 10, 2018 and went inside to see if their service was still available, it was but you had to come inside and ask for someone to help you. I said that was ridiculous. If I already struggled to get out of my car, I might as well put my own gas in. I was told I could press a button for help. Unfortunately, you had to get out of the car to get to the button. There are many seniors who are handicapped and find great difficulty getting out of their car to fill their tank. This is the service Dave Carney provided; to make life a little easier for our seniors. This service no longer exsist. Do the new owners of Hillside Chevron really think what they still call "senior Tuesday" really helps, You have got to be kidding!! One person inside runs the store and the service station(you can't do both). read more

Love this place enough to write a review for a gas station lol! They are professional, courteous and have good old fashion customer service. I have had a tire low and the people jumped to help me with no extra charges (of course I tipped!!). But they are a great location for car washes, diesel gas and a clean and professional atmosphere.
