I went here on a busy and hot day in april with my boy scout trip. The strees where fullof people so me and my friends were like, "hey, lets get somthing sweet." so we shearched up "places to get sweet stuff nerby", and the frist thing that popped up was this place. so we headed there and let me telll you that this place was if not the place place to get sweet stuff in the hole town. There was 2 train layouts, mulitple posters of classic locomotives for the 1940s-50s, and over all place was GREAT. THE STAFF WAS KIND AND WERE NICE TO GIVE US A FREE SAMPLIES OF THE COOKIES. I visit Galena two or three times a year and always make a point of visiting Chew Chew Cookies when I do. Their cookies are delicious -- not an unreasonable expectation for cookies, to be fair -- and they've always remained fresh and chewable for the two or three weeks it takes me to eat the couple dozen I typically purchase. I've always found the service to be friendly and welcoming, even on the day after Thanksgiving, and the prices are extremely reasonable. While visiting Galena we stopped in this place called Chew Chew Cookies. I wish I could say these cookies were chewy and delicious. I should of followed my mind of not making purchase. First sign was rude lady behind the counter. We were asking her about the different types of cookies behind the counter. Her body language and voice tone should of told me to walk out. Nice me purchased the peanut butter chocolate stale cookie. It was hard as a rock and had no hint of peanut butter or a chocolate flavor. A waste of $3.42 If your ever in downtown Galena skipped this place. Terrible customer service and these so called homemade cookies are not worth the trip. read more

I actually made a yelp account just to review this shop :) it has the cutest theme, I basically sprinted in here for a gift after I saw the sign, because my father would've absolutely loved their concept as a lover of cookies and model trains. I was absolutely ecstatic at their prices and I paid about $16 for about a dozen cookies. I've only tried the Mexican hot chocolate ones as they're the ones I bought for myself. They're some of the best cookies I've ever had, they're a super unique concept I've never seen, and the crumbly coarse sugar on top is super delectable; they have a light peppery spice to them that just has me head over heels I'll definitely need more than 4. I like my cookies with a pleasant saltiness and they were perfect!!! The woman who was working was a little unenthusiastic but definitely was not nearly as bad as some of these other reviews are describing. She was skeptical of my Google pay but they do accept google, apple, and contactless pay. And even if she was, I'd come back exclusively for those hot chocolate cookies. I also got lemon and strawberry for someone else which I'm excited to try. I'm from nowhere near Galena but I will absolutely come back whenever I can for this place and every other delightful one I visited!!! read more

You guys...allow me to explain. My kids love two things; trains and cookies. I have been talking this place up to them for two days now and decided it would be a good reward after sitting through the trolley tour. You walk in and they have one small train set and a large one that takes up 1/2 of the store. Their cookies are all prepackaged and waiting for purchase. If you are the owner of this business and are reading this, please replace the older woman you have working there. Believe me when I say she is ruining your business. Customer service is such an important factor to the success of a business and this women does not have it. My son asked why the train wasn't on, and she quickly replied that they don't turn the trains on. I asked where the concept of the store came from, she very bluntly said "the owner". I asked if they were a lover of trains, she said "no, it's just a concept", before quickly following up with a reminder to grab all my things before I leave. Were the cookies edible? Yes. Were they amazing? Absolutely not. Would I continue to return and be a loyal customer had her attitude and ambiance been more inviting? Yes. Will I be returning again? No. We felt so incredibly uncomfortable that we rushed out and ate the cookies staring at the smaller train set through the window. read more

Last time we were in town, we finally stopped by Chew Chew Cookies and we were absolutely delighted! First of all, safety precautions were followed for COVID-19. Thank you, Chew Chew Cookies! Second, the decor is EXCEPTIONAL! The entryway is full of lush green plants. Once you are past the entryway, the left and center of the store are brimming with delicious and delightful baked goods. The right side of the story is an incredible model train set of the area. So detailed and fun! Brought the name, Chew-Chew Cookies, to life! The wonderful staff lady who helped us was very kind. She helped us find an adorable holiday tin and fill it with three sets of different cookies: (1) Mexican Chocolate, (2) Rocky Road, and (3) Strawberry Cake. The cookies were so good they lasted only a few days. We can't wait for our next trip back to the area so that we can try some more cookies! read more

Stopped in this morning. The shop was just opening up and the owner (I think) was still setting things out. Fine by me because it meant everything was freshly baked. We opted for some of the chocolate chip cookies and they were still warm! The woman who helped us was lovely. Will stop back again the next time we're in town. read more

My family and I had an amazing trip to Galena over the weekend and always know it's such a fun time walking and checking out all the cool shops and amazing architecture of the town. We stumbled across this quaint little shop and we, of course, love cookies. (Who doesn't!?) The store is amazing! Nice inside and cool atmosphere. Checking out all of the awesome artwork hanging on the walls and you can't help but notice the HUGE model train set that's running in the store. Super detailed little town setup and I believe 3 trains going at once. My Son was amazed! And the cookies. The cookies are just outstanding. I especially love the Gooey cookies. So good. My Wife got the "Better Than Your Boyfriend" Brownie. Let me just tell you, girlfriend/boyfriend, it doesn't matter. This Brownie will change your life. It's simply perfect. Home made caramel is used with it. Aside from the AMAZING COOKIES and atmosphere, the hospitality was stellar. I'm honestly not sure of her name, but the woman working (whom I believe was the owner) was so great. We were eating dinner at Gobbie's down the street and not going to make it in time to get the cookies before Chew Chew closed. I called and she answered and I explained the situation. She STAYED OPEN FOR US and bagged all our order up and had it ready!!! Excellent customer service and amazing food. 10 out of 10 for me. Definitely a MUST STOP if you are in Galena. We were walking the streets of Galena and I saw a sign for Cinnamon and Orange rolls. I absolutely love Orange rolls, so I immediately headed on in. The Orange roll was huge! And it is delicious. My husband doesn't share my love, so he picked out a Snickerdoodle. You cannot buy a single cookie, they come in baggies of four. He says it was delicious. They have a model train that heads arounds a track, which was fun as well. I would definitely stop back in Chew Chew for another treat next time I'm in Galena! read more

I am super picky about brownies... and the brownie tops the charts! It is oooey and gooey with caramel just the way I like it. I also loved the "Chew Chew" train theme for their chewy, delicious desserts. Not only was the store cute, but the conversation with the owner was fun and pleasant. Great find in the Galena area for cookies, bars and cinnamon rolls! We tried the cinnamon roll, orange roll, Raspberry Walnut Pinwheel cookies and the brown sugar pecan cookies. All of the items we tried were delicious and we're definitely returning next time we're in Galena. read more
