Found out about this cool bakery in Galena. It looks like a pretty simple bakery with coffee and freshly baked cookies and loaves. Klein's Market is one of the favorites to get some locally made products. An okay amount to choose from. The prices are okay for quality. Also happens to be like a store for clothing and crafts. Its main focus though is on the baked goods. There's a shelf on the wall that has the freshly baked items like breads, cookies, and more. A lot to choose from. It's about $4 to get a mini loaf. These sweets like banana bread, which is okay. Most items are made with butter or eggs. The one without these is the chocolate loaf. A great option at breakfast. There's also plenty of sweets. Charming place where it's all baked fresh. It's open in the mornings until after lunch. There's coffee beans along with breads, cookies, and other things. read more

So glad we made it in before closing last weekend. We managed to snag some of the last packs of cookies and a small pie to take home! Updated to a five star, because I have stopped several times since first reviewing and everything has been absolutely fantastic. Some of my personal favorites are the cheese bread loaf and the tropical sweet bread. The baker is very friendly and I enjoy talking with him. The shop may look simple, but that's because the baked goods speak for themselves! Step into the shop and you will know what I mean. I'm an Iowa farm girl and can make some of these things myself, but I'm happy to support this family's craft. Wonderful smells of baked goods waft from this bakery inviting you in to disappointment. We visited this bakery twice. First on a Friday evening and they were sold out. Then again the next day shortly after they opened and the shelves were pretty bare A few mini pies, cookies and bread loaves. Bought the only cinnamon roll pull apart they had which looked delicious. However the rolls were more of a quick bread than a yeasty cinnamon roll. Not what I expected. Gave it a fair chance and trashed the rest. I love bakeries but cannot recommend. read more

I swing into Klein's every time we're in Galena. *I didn't know the bakery was named 'Klein's' until I did a Galena bakery search on Yelp. Who knew. I usually buy some of their little loaves of bread, but this time I bought one of the smaller cinnamon rolls for $3. That was a total splurge for me (the sweet treat, not the price), but I wish I had bought another, or at least the bigger version. There wasn't much left on the shelves when we arrived at about 3:30pm on a Thursday, but I went in specifically hoping to get a cinnamon roll, so I was happy. The guy behind the counter saw me looking at the strawberry kolaches on the way out. He tried pretty hard to get me to purchase them by letting me know "they just came out of the oven." Given the slim amount of stock on their shelves I'm always amazed to see they're still in business each time I return to Galena. Recommend. read more

Cute and quaint in historic downtown Galena. We followed our noses to find Kleins. Much like other reviews, there was hardly any selection remaining (10am on a Thursday of a Holiday weekend). Do they just make one of everything? 2 for $6 on breads... One blueberry and one peanut butter went home with us, buying out those flavors. The only 4-pack of oatmeal raisin cookies came with too. (There was only 1 4-pack of snicker-doodle, chocolate chip, and peanut butter out as well). Is that the ploy? Make it look like the supply is in high demand??? The flavor - flour. Cookies were not very soft, nothing special. Just cookies. Breads were nothing more than warm loaves of flour and a lil sugar. They crumbled once they cooled completely too, and I was really excited that they were still warm when we bought them. All in all, I can make tollhouse cookies...and they're better. Great little bakery, everything is baked in-house and they put labels on everything with the ingredients listed. Nothing has more than 5 or 6 ingredients and nothing has any mystery ingredients or preservatives added. My true love of the moment is their chocolate cake. It's what a hostess cupcake wishes it was. I usually stop at Kleins when we are in Galena. They have the best peanut butter cookies. I buy a dozen and freeze what I don't eat that day. They also have really good breads and pies. read more

I purchased a fresh loaf of wheat bread for $4.50 on Friday, the next day I tried to cut it and it fell apart like saw dust The entire loaf was like that it would just crumble in your hand. I would really give it no stars very disappointing! read more

Was excited to find a local Bakery to explore. Unfortunately, there was a guy sitting on the bench directly in front of the bakery whose exhaled cigarette smoke you had to walk through in order to enter the shop. I was annoyed but went in anyway. Imagine my disgust when the same man who had blown cigarette smoke in my face as I walked into the store came in after me and proceeded to walk behind the counter. He worked there or owned the place? I don't know. needless to say I and the couple who had come in after me left without buying anything. As much as I hate the idea of "tattling" on an employee, I feel like this is something very important to let people know. I have mixed feelings about this place. The reviews look good and the smell on the days that they bake is amazing. We came on Saturday and things seemed fresh. We bought blueberry and cranberry walnut. The blueberry was really good cranberry walnut was so so. Then decided to come back Monday morning to grab some to go home and we were thinking that coming in the morning would be amazing because we would get first Debs but it didn't even seem like they were open and baking all morning. I felt like I was getting Sundays leftovers. The strawberry bread Was very disappointing it was basically salty bread I didn't even taste any strawberry. The cinnamon bun I had high expectations for and I have had a way better elsewhere. The coffee is drip coffee so it isn't extremely high-quality or anything but it's a buck 50 so I guess you get what you pay for. There's not much place to sit the photos you see is what it is. Stopped in twice this visit. The first time it was later in the day and hardly anything was left so passed. The second day we got there earlier and was very happy to see all the full trays with small breads such as pumpkin, pear, tropical,zuchini,banana etc. They were priced 2 for $5 so naturally I took two. Chose the pear and tropical as well as a small individual strawberry/ruhbarb pie (also available was a apple, blueberry and cherry)and a small raisin bread (not out, he just mentioned it). I've tried the pear loaf and its DELICIOUS. The Tropical I froze for a future treat. Gave the raisin bread as a gift to my neighbor and she loved it. The small pie was also a big hit with me. Not too sweet and good crust. Cut it into 4 pieces to enjoy each night. Can't wait to get back! SIDE NOTE: Get their early for choices. I'm sure economically, just having a bare store with no frrills is smart but a few small table/chairs and decor would really bring in the ladies. This little bakery has some pretty good stuff, but there are a few misses. The breads and small pies are freshly baked, soft, moist, and sweet at great low prices. The cookies are a bit hard not chewy and do not seem as fresh as some of the other baked goods. The place is small no room to sit in and have a bite all of it is wrapped to go. I think with a little more in their inventory it would be a five star. I went twice and twice the trays of bread were nearly empty leaving not much variety to select from. I would go back and I would recommend for some one to stop and take home some bread. read more

Always stop here and try something different each time when we're in Galena. Went yesterday and purchased the Peanut Butter Bread.......SO VERY YUMMY!!!!!! Not an over-powering flavor but more than enough...light like a bread not thick or heavy like a pumpkin-style bread. Love this bakery!!!! The best home-made pies. The crust is incredible and there is no shortage on the pecans. I pre-order my pies and give him a pick-up time when we're ready to go home. We visited the bakery this evening and as we were shopping I was injured in the shop and the middle aged man working there did not even acknowledge that I needed help. I almost thought he must have been mentally deficient as the pie I was buying landed on the floor and he totally ignored that. We ended up buying a couple of things but he only ran our credit card and didn't look us in the eye. Definitely won't go back no matter how good the baked goods are. read more

This is A really nice and amazing little bakery but make sure you get here early in the morning so the baked goods dont sell out! They have a amazing tomatto basil bread all the cookies are great too nice and fresh and the price right. There is a nice large selection for as little of A store as it is. The breads are great. My husband and I buy several and freeze them for a once and awhile treat until we get back to Galena. The staff is very friendly. To avoid the depleted inventory, order a couple of days in advance. Your order will be packed and ready to go when you arrive at the bakery. read more
