I ended up here after a rookie hangry moment at KFC down the street. I was craving battered wings -- the crunchy coated kind -- and when I saw the price for 12 wings over there was pushing almost $30, I immediately backed out of the drive-thru and started searching Yelp for alternatives. That's how I landed at Chex Grill & Wings on Freedom. I had seen the billboards around town and had been curious to try it anyway, so I figured why not. Now, full disclosure: I should have paid closer attention to the name because these are grilled wings, not battered wings, which is really what my Texas soul was craving. I ordered 12 wings plain/grilled with sauces on the side so I could control the situation myself. Overall? It was okay. The wings were a little on the scrawny side for me, and while they weren't bad, they just weren't what I had in my head when the craving hit. The staff was friendly and helpful though, and they also have self-order kiosks if you want to move things along quickly. The location itself is tucked into a tiny little shopping strip off busy Freedom Drive with its own parking lot, so it's easy enough to get in and out. I'm still on the hunt for Charlotte's best crunchy, coated wing -- flats or drums, I'm not picky -- so if you know a spot, send it my way. The area is a bit sketch but it's totally worth it. The service was great and prompt. The young lady that rang us up was super sweet and helpful since it was our first time. The wings were great. There is a ton of flavors to choose from. We tried 4 different flavors and had no complaints. The strawberry ones seem to be popular. We ordered this spot to go and everything went fine with that whole process. I wasn't particularly in love with the wings like I have been at previous experiences at other Chex locations. I ordered the honey teriyaki and hot strawberry. The honey teriyaki wings were pretty good, but the hot strawberry had zero flavor. I kept taking bites thinking the flavor was coming but it never did. That's such a unique wing flavor and I was so excited about it. But it was very lacking unfortunately. I've had great wings at Chex so I was a bit surprised. Maybe it was a bad day, I'd give them another try. The fries weren't that great either, they pretty much just had salt and a little too much. My family ate here on 03-02-2025 around 9pm. They had wings, burgers, and fries........ they all have FOOD POISONING!!!!! They have been sick since eating the food. They are actually on the way to hospital now. This is the last time that they will ever eat from Chex again. We the have my receipt and will soon have a doctor's note to prove it. (I tried to warn them about this location) PS: this is the same location that threw my food on the floor after I ask them to fix problem with my order. You get could see the dirt and hair on the wings. The only plus side what that I got a full refund. Stay away from this location!!!!! read more

Order: spicy garlic Parmesan wings (well done) I've heard a lot of raving reviews about Chex Wings, specifically their strawberry hot wings, so I wanted to try them out for myself. One thing that stood out on their menu is their numerous options of wing flavors; a lot more than other wing restaurants have offered. I decided to try the spicy garlic parm instead of the strawberry hot because I wasn't feeling too adventurous that day lol. The wings were still crispy, despite not having time to eat them immediately. Although the wings surpass the crispiness test, they fell short in flavor. They were not spicy nor salty enough. (That's a shocker for me because I usually review food being too salty). Most of the garlic flavor was in the melted butter that was at the bottom of the to-go container. Not sure how they prepared it, but it doesn't seem like the wings were tossed in it. By the looks of it, melted butter was poured into the container, naked wings were placed on top then cheese sprinkled on top. On a side note, I did however got to try the strawberry hot sauce. The flavor was good, so I'm thinking that may be the choice for a second try. read more

This restaurant never disappoints. It's my go to for a delicious avocado salad, wings, and more. They offer a wide array of food options and sauces for those wings(yummy). The staff is pleasant and quick service. The establishment is clean, although I've never used the bathroom. I've felt comfortable enough to eat inside, but I usually get my orders to go. Hey family. So Saturday night I was in Charlotte with my friend to check out restaurant week. We went to Morton's (slightly underwhelming and see my previous review) but I was still hungry. My friend told me that these wings are to die for and they weren't wrong. We ordered the strawberry hot and raspberry to go as we were on our way back home. I'm not really the one for saucy wings but the strawberry hot is where it's at. The wings were cooked perfectly and the sauce is finger licking and lip smacking. I will make it my business to stop here before I come home to Greensboro when I visit Charlotte. I'm definitely game to try more flavors. The next day they were still amazing. We enjoyed the food when we ordered from uber eats but when we tried to call and order directly from the restaurant we got AI when we finally figured out how to bypass the AI an employee picked up and placed us on hold immediately. First checked out this place because i heard of the Strawberry Hot Wings and Ever since then I've been hooked and call this place an Ol' Faithful now! The food is amazing and i've had my fair share of various items besides just wings as well. The customer service is TOP NOTCH and the recommendations are superb! This and the uptown location are the only Chex I go to. For some reason the other locations aren't good and the chicken isn't as fresh. The service is pretty good and all the employees are nice! I eat here about twice a week, one of my favorite chicken spots in Charlotte ! The inside isn't the cleanest but I just pick up my food and leave ! read more

I ordered takeout so I cannot comment on the restaurant itself. However these wings were AMAZING. Them being delivered did not take away any of the freshness or the flavor profile for them! I ordered the honey hot and the strawberry hot. The price was high at $22 for 10 wings and 2 sauces but still. The strawberry hot was sweet and delicious - not too hot. I don't like spicy and could handle it. The honey hot was spicy, again not terrible but my lips stung a bit. It had more of a tang - just a tiny bit. The mozz sticks were crispy and the Marinara had good flavor. I'll get more. read more

This review is for takeout only! We placed an order online on a Saturday night for delivery. However, the order wasn't confirmed. When we called, they said they were too busy for delivery but that we could pick it up. We got the 40 piece wings ($40.99) with 3 different sauces: teriyaki, spicy honey gold, and hot. They were all good! The teriyaki was my personal favorite. The spicy honey gold wasn't very spicy. The hot wasn't too hot. It was the perfect level of hot. 40 wings for $40.99 is not a bad deal! Some of the best wings in Charlotte are hidden in this strip mall gem on Freedom (and bonus - you can get your taxes done after you chow down). I've only done take out from here, but whenever we are craving wings, this is our go-to. They have a ton of different flavors and if you get 10 or more, you can choose multiple sauces. Their wings are meaty and are cooked to perfection...they definitely know how to do wings right. I usually get the buffalo (it packs a punch) and either the garlic parm or lemon garlic wings. They are all delicious so I don't think you could go wrong any way you choose. They also serve sandwiches and other items, but we have only ever done wings here. I'm always tempted to try something different but the smell of delicious buffalo goodness convinces me otherwise. They also do online ordering so you just have to run in and pick up. It's so simple and makes wing night happen that much quicker! read more

First off: I'm very picky with my wings, Taste of Buffalo in Huntersville is another favorite. Can't speak for any other locations, but, I tend to go out of the way to get some good quality wings. Came here 3 times, and I'm always satisfied with he flavor. Cooked perfectly, not too bland, not too salty. The Hawaiian blaze is my favorite. Definitely worth the money. read more

If you see this place you can easy walk pass and not really think it may be a place for you and your family to enjoy. Although it's not a super dressy dine-in area they do provide dine-in for there customers. The menu has a large variety of options and the selection on wing flavors are amazing! If you pop in to this place make sure you try the fries when they are still fresh they are nice, thin and crispy. Yes overall I would give this place 5 stars but I took one star away as usually when business is busy the quality kind of slacks. First of all you can order online, that's defiantly a perk. Next they have tons of wings flavors! I must admin though, I like really hot wings and they're extra hot didn't satisfy my level of spice, but were still good. A good size wing and fries to perfection! I ask had the pleasure of trying their Greek salad I kept hearing about. It was good but not as extravagant as I thought. They're famous prolly was worth the hype though. I love Chex S Tryon (Uptown) and Davis Lake but this Freedom location is terrible. The staff, the location (dirty), and the food is horrible - doesn't even taste like Chex. One of the reasons I love yelp is because it helps me find delicious restaurants that I likely wouldn't have otherwise! I was getting ready to leave for a quick road trip and wanted to grab some lunch before leaving the city. After browsing a bit I came across Chex Grill. I was immediately drawn to the pictures of the food, in particular their subs with MOUNTAINS of cheese on them. That was just what I needed so off I went. The place is unassuming, tucked away in a strip mall. Don't be fooled by the appearance though this place is seriously great for lunch, as evidenced by the pile of to go orders I saw adding up even past normal lunch hours. I ordered their jerk chicken sub and just like in the pictures I saw posted I was thrilled when it came out covered in cheesy goodness. Is it healthy? Probably not. But man was it good. The chicken definitely had a kick to it, the jerk flavoring seemed authentic. I am definitely going to come back and explore this menu some more. read more
