It is super quirky, fun, retro, recycled, but has modern twists on food and drinks. There is a standard bar for drinks as well as refrigerator doors like in a grocery store that you can grab canned craft beverages from, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. There's a walk-up kitchen to place your order at, and you'll hear your name called over an intercom system from wherever you're sitting (inside, outside, upstairs) for you to pick up your food. It's also a great spot for any type of night out. Pregame, chill, date night, breakfast, lunch, really any time is a great time to go! Parking isn't great, as it is South End, but it's also in a very walkable and accessible area. I ordered the mama's bowl. I absolutely loved the old school mill grits! They were creamy and had really good texture. The bacon was cooked just right and the local sourdough was very yummy! Everything I wanted in a breakfast bowl. Hubby ordered the fire inside breakfast burrito. This combo was really good. Potatoes, egg, pepper-jack cheese, bacon, onions, peppers, jalapeños, firecrackers sauce - yum! I am a huge fan, and if I still lived in Charlotte I'd probably get lunch here a few times a week. I was craving a really good sandwich and was looking around online and found Common Market. I loved the amount of options they had and every picture that people had posted looked amazing so I came over immediately. It's definitely a cute convenience store vibe inside with a bar you can drink at too and other snacks throughout the store. Everyone inside was really friendly. They have a long list of sandwiches they created to order but you can build your own and literally get it any way you want. The topping options were endless. I got a pressed sourdough sandwich with avocado smash, turkey, mixed greens, pepper jack cheese, honey mustard, mayo, and cider braised onions. The Common Market is a Charlotte staple and lots of fun for a drink with friends BUT the food is awful. Last two times I have gotten a sandwich here it's barely been edible. Greasy, flavorless and just gross. I made the poor decision to stop there today to get a vegan Reuben. $13 later and I cannot even finish it's so disgusting. Tastes like old shoe leather, I have had delicious vegan Reuben's before, and this is a far cry from those. Soggy and greasy marble rye, tofu that tasted like smoky plastic, couldn't even taste the sauerkraut or 1000 island dressing. I had my husband taste it too just to see what he thought and he said he could barely choke down the bite that he had. We both agreed that we will not be eating at common market ever again. I have been to common market in Southend several times before and have always had a great experience (drink with friends on the patio, coffee in the morning, and just picking up a sandwich for lunch). It is also great for coming to do work on your laptop as there are plenty of tables and everyone pretty much does their own thing here. There are two unisex bathrooms in the main space, inside seating downstairs and upstairs as well as outside patio tables of different sizes. Parking can be a pain from time to time as it is Southend, however there is a lot out in front of the space and next to it as well. Street parking is always free if you can find it and there are some metered spaces as well as garages close by. The workers are always friendly and give great recommendations if you ask! read more

Had heard great things about the CM and were lured via a BOGO coupon on late a Sunday morning for lunch. Glad we tried it! The overall vibe is hip and funky. Decor is urban/industrial chic. Seating is available all over the place: Inside at the bar, at a large community table, and on two levels of casual dining in what appears to be an old garage AND outside, on a balcony and on a sprawling patio. Customers were lounging throughout and appeared very comfortable and content. Although somewhat unsure what to do upon entering the front door, our 16 year old daughters quickly figured out that we were to order at a small window to left, in the back, which we did. A wide variety of sandwiches and salads were available and were made fresh and delivered quickly. My wife's Mediterranean Salad was huge and loaded with good stuff like hummus, black olive salad, toboullah salad and other fresh veggies. It easily provided two meals. My roast beef wrap was tasty but a bit stringy on the meat. My daughter's BLTs were made with a delicious smoked bacon. Overall, everything was quite good and reasonably priced. There is also a coffee bar immediately upon entry, and a plethora of beverage options available in a bevy of refrigerated cases. Sanitation score was a 97. Service is minimal yet friendly. Everything I've had to eat is great and I'm always impressed with how big their menu is. The wild vibe is always fun to show off some of the crunch that this neighborhood can exude. Cashiers and bartenders have always been chatty and friendly and seem to fit the vibes perfectly.
