Ok, the pastries are exceptionally beautiful, the coffee is good. I haven't had any of the many types of bread but they look delicious too. But how hard is it to smile, be friendly and welcoming to customers? Apparently very difficult! If one orders a coffee to sit at a table they will bring it but then you have to get up and go fetch your own spoon and napkin at the front of the store. It's not clear if you're supposed to bring your pastry to the table or if it will be brought to you. Likewise are we supposed to bus our table or leave for the staff? Been several times and leave feeling kind of annoyed at the unnecessary rudeness and confusion. Hope that gets resolved soon because otherwise it's a lovely addition to Lambertville. read more

Drove from Philadelphia craving Chez Alice pastries and croissants. We'd been convinced that their items were the best we'd had since they'd opened in Lambertville. This past weekend on Saturday, our most recent visit for goodies, we ordered tea and 2 pastries to consume in the cafe, and ordered 5 pastires to go. At a cost of over $40.00+. The tea was weak, 2 pastries made us sick in the cafe and for the whole evening. The next morning we tried 2 pastries with our breakfast. The pastries were greasy in the the bags and made us both sick to our stomachs. We didn't finish them and threw them all out. Nothing tasted as good as in previous visits. Perhaps they changed to cheaper ingredients or someone new doesn't know what they are doing with baking. But what we do know is that we'll never be back. read more

Employee spit in my face while yelling at me that they closed an hour early for the Super Bowl and slammed the door in my face. They also yelled at my husband for picking up an order an hour late when they were open 6 more hours. I'm local and love supporting local business. I'm done with this place. read more

I had a bad experience. When the man at the register told me my total I thought it seemed too much so I asked and the man didn't speak. He just pointed to a sign that said there was an added fee if a customer used a credit card. I said that that was against visa and MasterCard policy. And again he said nothing. So I said I would pay cash. He gave me my change. I had to ask for the receipt. When I sat down I saw that he had charged me the credit card fee even though I paid cash! I was with a friend and the man was so rude and unpleasant that I didn't want any more contact with him. It's just such bad business. The food was expensive and just okay as well. Rude and disrespectful staff that do not want customers.. do not go here unless you want to be treated horribly. My mom got a gift card here for her birthday and we decided to use it on a sunday afternoon. Around 5:30 PM we left for Chez Alice, which states they close at 8 pm. While on our way we called Chez Alice to double check that they close at 8 (which they do). When we arrived, Chez Alice was busy with several other parties. We browsed and my mom asked the guy behind the counter about these cute ceramic cups and if tea is served in them. He simply responded "we are closing now." She only asked a question, and how are you closing at 6 PM (two hours early) when the store is full of people. It's like he was being rude just to be rude. We then pointed out which pastry we wanted and he told us "they're all the same." They quite literally are not the same, the macarons and other pastries are of different flavors? How could they possibly all be the same? The same employee then told another party (of elderly people) that they could not sit down, even though they weren't closing for another 2.5 hours? Chez Alice should learn to treat customers with respect and decency. I'm disappointed that my mom won't be able to use her gift card here because we felt so awkward that we don't want to return. read more

First time at this location/ very good quality coffee and cakes. Great location as well. Unfortunately there seems to be poor customer service. Nobody is welcoming- sad but it kind of spoils the visit especially since the prices are high. read more

Beautiful looking, very clean, baked goods and desserts are beautiful and affordable, though likely brought-in, not made there. Service was confusing. No one greeted us, nor advised us what to do. A lady and man behind central counter were nicely dressed and took our orders, but the two other staff members (bussers?) in white or black uniforms seemed unsure of their role and never smiled. I don't think anyone spoke English, as communication was spotty and sparce. (They were not French.) Apparently, customers must place their orders at the central counter, pay, then take things to the tables ourselves. (No one offered to take them over). No trays were offered for us to do it, so took a couple trips. Customers must also turn around to get plastic utensils and condiments at a counter along the wall. *No one explained anything, we learned it ourselves as we went along. ** For me, these points took away from the ambience. The eating area is nice, walls are decorated, tall windows make it sunny with view of towpath, plants and Lambertville Inn's patio area. The foods my friend and I chose were very tasty, though her's was listed as a salad but came as a sandwich in filo wrap. It was the one thing brought over to us. Correspondingly our tip was not large. Our beverages were good, my coffee was good. Prices were all good. -------- I may return, not sure, may get things to go. ---------- Perhaps I'll try their Princeton NJ location, which for me is closer. **(Sigh... I miss the little french patisserie that's tucked away in New Hope, but that now appears to be closed. :-( It had French-language magazines and newspapers to read and an outdoor patio by the river.) read more

I was in chez Alice for the first time last Monday.. the young woman who took care of me, was so wonderful, helpful just could not do enough for me.. the bread wall yelled my name every time I drove by, I just had to stop! I bought a couple of things, and maybe a pastry to two! everything was delicious! I went back today for lunch and my experience couldn't have more different.. a big guy was at the counter, and couldn't have been more rude.. he ignored me for a couple of minutes, and was almost annoyed at me asking about lunch.. how would I know there is no table service, no diet soda, no tea except English breakfast , he was completely not helpful in any way.. no smile, no explanation of when do I get a takeout pastry..after lunch? or now? all he told me was that I had to pay right at the counter..it seemed unorganized to me.. I was so excited to be there, the pastries are so beautiful I would have bought at least a few of them, but he was so RUDE, I almost left without eating , it was a beautiful day, the store is really pretty, but they just need to get rid of him..he was awful read more

Beautiful French bakery with lovely selection of teas, sumptuous scones and luscious pastries. We celebrated a birthday with afternoon tea plus some savory hot sandwiches to start, and enjoyed attentive service at a relaxing pace. We'll be back!! read more

I recently visited Ches Alize, attracted by its reputation for great pastries. While the pastries lived up to the hype, unfortunately, my overall experience was marred by an incident on December 28, 2024. It was a busy day, and I arrived at 1:07 pm. After just 12 minutes of enjoying my chai latte and pastry, a lady who appeared to be the host that day approached me. She asked me to leave instead of addressing me kindly, claiming they needed the table for other waiting customers. Shockingly, she accused me of sitting for over an hour and stated they don't accept clients with electronics for work. This encounter felt rude and discriminatory, especially as she didn't approach others who had been there longer. I wish the situation had been handled more kindly and respectfully, perhaps by asking if I could help by vacating the table after 30 minutes. The assumption that I would stay for an extended period simply because I had my laptop was unfair. Unfortunately, this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth, and I'm hesitant to revisit Ches Alize. A word of caution: it seems bringing electronics may result in being asked to leave and calling the police, as the "manager" of the bakery threatened me. I didn't do anything wrong. He was very stressed out from all the people they were having and took it on me. read more
