Remarkable breakfast sandwiches, of course. But what impresses me most is the outstanding people behind the counter on the weekends. The customer service is exceptional; inviting, polite and pleasant. I'm not a regular. I maybe get there once or twice a month at best. Yet one of the gentlemen behind the counter remembers my name and greets me as soon as I'm through the door. And they all seem to know the names of nearly every customer I've seen in the place across half a dozen visits. And the owner is always there, making sandwiches that are as beautiful to look at as they are to eat. He takes obvious pride in his work and has recruited employees whose soft skills wildly outpace those of nearly every other establishment. Hands down a must-visit when you're in town. This place is cool, local, and chef-driven--a cafe with the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in a long time. It's elevated, and every detail hits. The eggs are a perfect medium with jammy yolks, perfectly seasoned, and all of the components of the sandwich work together. Also, for a multilayered sandwich, they manage to make it cohesive so that it doesn't fall apart. I had the Cali, which had an amazing chipotle aioli that was the perfect amount of spicy. The avocado was clearly selected as best-in-class and full of flavor and texture, and the fontina cheese was gooey and flavorful. Finally, that buttery, crispy, gooey bread held the whole thing together. I didn't want it to end. Great energy here, music, and friendly staff. Spectacular sandwiches!!! I have been twice and am an official fan! Both times I shared 2 sandwiches with a friend and they were all unbelievable. One of them made my friend exclaim that it was the best she'd ever had. I didn't realize that there had been a change in ownership a few days after my July visit, but learned from the new, and very nice, proprietor in August that the transition was smooth and the menu remained the same. Came here with my parents to grab a quick bite to eat before walking the bridge. We are from out of state visiting and cannot compliment the service enough. They were absolutely the nicest people! Everyone introduced themselves and were welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious! We got a Cali and a Jersey on an everything bagel. The bread was perfect. Sometimes I feel like bagels are too tense for the sandwich but this was way more fluffy than dense and worked really well with the sandwiches. I also left my purse here by accident and had no idea for HOURS! They were so great! They called me and let me know they had it and were holding it for me. We ordered the Cali breakfast sandwich our first morning, and the toast with ricotta and roasted tomatoes a day later. Both terrific! The two guys there now -- the one at the front who does coffees and takes your order, and the cook -- are two of the friendliest, nicest people I interacted with over a three-day stay, and Lambertville is a friendly town! I decided to try this place given the good reviews on Yelp. Plus, my other go-to place has a long wait. I asked the guy at the counter it's my first time and if there is anything he recommends? He responds by saying: everything on the menu - otherwise he wouldn't put them there. It wasn't the most friendly tonality but I understand sometimes people are proud of their own food. As I'm trying to be healthier, I asked if it's possible to replace the brioche bread with something else. He said, in what I perceive as somewhat aggressive tone: why do you want to replace something if you haven't tried it before? I was rendered speechless. I thought I asked some pretty standard questions and it wasn't like there was a huge line behind me and I was taking up too much time. I would have walked out if I wasn't in a huge hurry and starving too. In the end I ordered breakfast sandwich ($11) and a latte. The food isn't bad and a little salty from my taste. I don't know this experience was a result of what I look and how I speak, or this is just how the service is like over there. Either way, I won't go back. read more

Here we go, my son Brandon heard about Metta Cafe through work and it's only 20 min drive for us. So off we go. We arrived in beautiful Lambertville paid the meter and found the establish down a small side street. Very cute inside and was greeted by a very nice counter person who helped us with the menu. The inside only has three tables so I'm assuming this is mostly a take out. My $3 coffee is the size of Wawa small, but the coffee was smooth. I ordered the maple sausage sandwich. The eggs were over easy so the yoked oozed out, the sausage and bacon were fresh and the bun was toasted perfectly. The taste was excellent with just the right amount of maple syrup. Ok now listen this was an $11 sandwich and it's not that big. For the size it's not worth $11 but the taste is. Remember your in Lambertville so you pay Lambertville prices. Would I recommend this place, absolutely, would I make it an everyday stop? Only if my paycheck allowed me. Cute place, good food. Good job to Matte Cafe. read more

Probably my favorite breakfast joint in Lambertville. Fresh, savory meals, really terrific staff/owners, and a cozy locals spot. Recommend you call before you go to make sure they're open. You can place your order in advance. I'm a huge fan of the cado smash, the turkey-brie-fig-arugula sandwiche, and the.... oh, who am I kidding? All of the grilled cheese sandwiches. Hubby loves the prosciutto egg and the chorizo egg sandwiches. You really can't go wrong. Very limited seating, but we're all friends in town anyway so it's all good. Happy to accommodate kids.
