My favorite in the world (for context, I was in NYC just a few weeks ago where I tried several from popular places). The sesame bagels here are slightly sweet on the outside with a rich, umami roasted sesame flavor from the seeds and wood firing. I recommend buying a tub of cream cheese or whatever other supplies you'd like from the cooler to make your own sandwich or to dip your bagel. Of course, they're great on their own, but a little chive cream cheese really brings it to the next level. I always stock up during each trip to Montreal and bring some to friends and family back home and everyone always looks forward to that!

Well, I had to find out for myself. The two bagels are very different. I may sound bias but the New York bagel is definitely better. That's not to say I didn't like the Montreal bagel, they're just not the same. The Montreal bagel tastes almost denser. We had the spicy everything bagel which is a first for me and a sesame bagel. Again, good. But I come from the home of bagels so it wasn't anything for me to write home about.

Amazing food, service , and ambiance…read more A visit to Montreal isn't complete without a stop at Schwartz's Deli. The smoked meat sandwich absolutely lived up to the hype. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, piled high between fresh rye bread with just the right amount of mustard. The atmosphere is classic, authentic, and full of history. Even with the line outside, the service was efficient and friendly, and the food was worth every minute of the wait. The pickle and fries were the perfect sides to complement the rich smoked meat. You can tell why this place has become a Montreal institution. Simple menu, legendary food, and an experience that feels uniquely local. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Montreal.

We walked into a space that is small, constantly packed, and built around fast turnover rather than comfort, with people lining up at the counter while orders get called out across a loud, crowded room. The energy hit us right away, and it felt more like stepping into a system that has been running the same way for decades rather than a modern restaurant experience. The smoked meat sandwich is the main reason to come here, and it delivers in a very direct, no-frills way. We ordered one and found the meat thick, heavily seasoned, and with a deep smoky flavor that came through right away. The texture stood out most, tender but still structured enough to hold its bite, especially when stacked on rye bread with mustard. It is simple in concept but feels complete in execution, with nothing on the plate trying to distract from the main item. The sides like pickles, coleslaw, and fries felt more supportive than essential. We tried the poutine and found it solid and filling, but it clearly sat in the background compared to the smoked meat sandwich. Everything on the menu seemed centered around that one item, and the rest of the food reinforced that focus rather than expanding it into a wider dining experience. Seating is communal and tightly packed, which added to the overall intensity of the place. It was common to share tables with strangers, and there was very little personal space once we sat down. The noise level stayed high the entire time, but the service was quick, so the pace of the meal kept things moving even when it felt crowded. Schwartz's Deli feels like a Montreal institution defined by its simplicity and consistency. It is not a comfortable sit-down meal, but the smoked meat sandwich is strong enough to make the entire experience worth it, especially if you are there for what it is known for rather than the setting around it.

I was intrigued, and since I can always go for some carbs I decided to head in and check this place out. Unlike most bakeries I visited, Boulangerie Guillaume has a much more modern look, and is larger than a standard bakery. Walking in, I was immediately greeted by stairs which led up to the main production area. All of the bakes were arranged on the back-wall perimeter of the space separated from the pedestrians by a glass wall. The color scheme was mostly black to contrast the bright yellow of the bags and signage. The arrangement of the bakes, combined with the color scheme and modern aesthetics, resulted in a stunning, visually striking presentation. I wasn't too hungry, but I can always go for some sweets and their date square looked good. I went with that, along with a cappuccino. The square was delicious - the dates were high quality, and the crust underneath was moist while maintaining its integrity. The cappuccino was also good, a great complement to the bake. Service was efficient, and overall I had a great experience at Boulangerie Guillaume. I definitely want to return to explore more of their menu - I noticed they had some savory items so perhaps for some lunch. Definitely one of the best bakeries I visited in Montreal.

Had a long…read moreday of walking through this very large city, enough to build up anxiety in any common person. However, got close to the end of our day and saw Kettlemans Bagel store across the way from the stadium and decided to give them a try. They were not to busy at the moment, I'm sure when the hockey season is in play they get packed. The gentleman that took our order at the check in was nice and patient. I'm sure that it didn't help that we did not speak French, which seems to be the main language here in Montreal. I got the BLT and tots, the family got sandwiches as well and tots. They did have a little hiccup with our order, they forgot one of the tater tots. I let them know and they were super apologetic and made another fresh batch for us. They have an area where you can see them cutting up the dough and roll up the bagels to be made. There is an outdoor seating area (it's like a patio) or you can sit inside mostly barstools and a couple tables with chairs. The Bathroom you need to get the key from the counter, bathrooms were a bit on the dingy for being a locked up bathroom. The restaurant itself looked clean and well kept. The sandwich was good, bagel was a bit on the chewy side. Like I said the staff was nice which was the best part of the visit here.
