A very popular doctor with an extremely long wait. We had our first baby with him last year and eventually decided to switch to another doctor. The staff was very rude. Speaking mandarin giving looks thinking some patients couldn't understand. And talking shit after hanging up the phone with patients. However the main reason we switched was because Dr. Chiang seemed like he was always in a hurry(with a room full of patients I assumed he was) and we often felt judged by our "silly" questions. None of the office staff were wearing masks despite being in the midst of a pandemic. Dr. Chiang was not wearing a mask either while seeing a patient before me. When I was called into his office he offered to wear a mask if I prefer. This should be MANDATORY for everyone at ALL times given the enclosed space, and especially given the clinical setting. First time visit with Dr. Chiang today was a good first experience. 1. His office staff are polite and i didn't feel rushed during the visit. 2. I felt comfortable with him and felt that he geniunely cares for his patients. 3. I didn't have to wait that long. I think i found a good OB and will continue seeing him for future visits. I didn't give the extra star because i think it's just too soon for that being it was only my first time there. Updates to come in the future. Update: my review still remains 4 star but just wanted to add addtional notes. Dr. Chiang Delievered my son earlier this year jan 2014 and i was very please with the care i received during my pregnancy. i had a couple scares and he was always able to return my calls immediately even late at night. On my delivery day other doctors would have probably preformed a c-section but Dr. Chiang was patient and after almost 24 hours of labor i had my son vaginally with very little complications. I think the one thing that could be improved to receive a 5 star rating would be a nicer more updated facility. His office is located in an older building that need much updating. read more

I have never written any bad reviews in my life,but this is exceptional. Medical machines/equipment are dirty and old...definitely not updated for a long time. The front desk staff are extremely rude,and they don't accept credit cards. CASH ONLY!! To write it off on their taxes????? I didn't have more than $100 in my wallet,and they made me go get cash right away although I was really really sick and bleeding like crazy. I hardly stood up at the time. I'm so glad that I found Dr. Chiang as my OBGYN. I just had my first child a week ago. I'm only 5"2 and my baby was close to 9 lbs heavy. after 20 hours in labor and 5 hours of pushing I finally had my wonderful daughter the natural way. I would probably end up with a C-section with other doctors. I'm so grateful that Dr. Chiang didn't give up on me after such long and hard work. I will definitely come back for my future babies. It's taken me a 2 years to bring myself to write this review. Saw this doctor to confirm my pregnancy and get a second opinion if it would be safe for me to carry the 2 fetuses to term since I have 2 uteri and am considered a high risk patient anything OG/GYN related. Instead of informing me and giving me statistics related to bicornate uteri and giving birth, this doctor essentially shamed me for getting pregnant at my age (I was 25 at the time) and even more shamed my partner who is black for not using a condom/contraception. Also horrible bedside manner, did not use gloves when doing the ultrasound to confirm the double pregnancy. Just awful. Not all OB/GYN patients go to the doctor to give birth, some of us just want answers and this guy is not a specialist. Probably only experienced with birthing typical pregnancies without complications. Do not go to this doctor if you and your partner aren't both Chinese and you don't have a "typical pregnancy" (I'm Chinese by the way). read more

I deliver my son on Feb 2016, thanks to Dr. Chiang, I was able to normal delivery my son after 30 hours of induction. Throughout my pregnancy, Dr. Chiang and his friendly staffs helped out a lot with my questions and concerns. He always respond to my phone calls as soon as he could, to answer my "unnecessary worries"! He also circumcised my son, and he did a great job on that comparing to other doctors lol. This is a really really really bad office staffs wide, I'm also working at clinic, I know that you have to keep it as professional as you are, because this is your job. But "NO" with this office's staffs, my staff called into this office and asked for the patient's phone number, they declined to release the patient's phone number, and they said that's your job to find out, they don't care. I've heard it from my staff and I couldn't believe it, I thought it's probably a misunderstanding, so I called into office by myself, and they were so RUDE. The first girl picked up and said that someone already asked and I said no, once I release the patient, it's your guys job to find out???? Okay, fine, I need to talk to your manager, she transferred me to whoever name starts with "Elvira" something like that, didn't catch up her name clearly, and she said yes it's your guys job, we don't release anything. Then I asked her "can I talk to your manager?", she responded me "the manger is busy, we are busy, anything else?" And I said that I could wait, and she responded "then just wait" and then a min later, the phone call dropped. I was like Wow, first time ever that I talked to staff with this kind of rude attitude and unprofessional like this.... I can't believe that! With OB/GYN supposed taking care patients, but the staffs are showing rudeness and disrespectful way to other people same like the way they are. If anyone has the same disrespect same as I did, please speak up to Dr John. Don't let yourself get treat like sh** when you are actually a patient. Too much to be thankful for! From seeing me on a day he wasn't working just because I was being overly concerned with not feeling the baby move for 3 days to not allowing me to have a c-section and telling me that any doctor would love to do that. It would turn his 18 hours for delivering naturally into 18 minutes for a c section but he wanted the safe route for my baby and I! Quite Ethical! The only thing I would recommend is remodeling his office. The entire building is just old. He does seem like he is rushing but he does have a lot of patients; however, he will answer all your questions and concerns. read more

Dr Chiang is amazing. He recently delivered our second baby (first was born before we moved back to Southern California). Why is Dr Chiang amazing? Well, first, he is a no-nonsense doctor, which I really appreciate. The first OBGYN I saw in Southern California for this pregnancy pulled all kinds of games on me (you can see my other Yelp reviews and figure out which other medical practice I'm referring to). None of this Bullshi# with Dr Chiang. He's a straight shooter doctor with a ton of experience, which is just what I was looking for. Second, he delivers his patients personally - no punting you off to some junior doctor when you're at the hospital ready to give birth during the middle of the night. He will take your emergency call 24/7. He personally visits you every morning in the hospital to make sure your recovery is going well. Third, office visits with him are nearly always on-time, and if you do end up waiting a bit, it's because he's delivering a baby. He explains everything - the procedures needed and why. Lastly, his office staff is AMAZING. They are first rate. So nice, and so on top of everything, from appointments, to third party tests, to records, to billing, everything has been so easy and pleasant dealing with them. Some other Yelp reviewers have complained about the decor of his office and that it's not all fancy and new - who gives a crap about superficial stuff like that? His office and exam rooms are always clean, the equipment in good working order (some other OBGYNs I've visited seemed to constantly have equipment out of order), and they get $hit done. I don't need a fancy, expensive spa-like experience when I go to my OBGYN - I need and want a good, experienced doctor whom I trust won't leave me hanging when I'm at my most vulnerable. His office is clean and well kept, but not bells and whistles fancy, which I could care less about (I saw the other doctor who had bells and whistles fancy, and had a terrible EXPERIENCE there, so F the bells and whistles, just give me a good doctor and staff). The other thing I love about Dr Chiang is that he won't let you get away with BS. No eating like a pig and gaining a ton of weight. He is serious about weight and health management and making sure you are taking care of yourself AND your baby. As much as I would have loved to eat everything and anything, having a disciplined pregnancy meant that I still look good and am in good shape after baby's arrival. 5+ stars for Dr Chiang and staff! read more

First and foremost, I want to say that Dr John Chiang and his office staff (Elvira, Brenda, Sunny and May) are amazing!!! Although this review is long overdue, given that my DD is now 22months old, I want to make sure people know that there is such a great doctor (and office staff) that truly exists. You see, I was referred to Dr Chiang when I was 30 weeks pregnant, and he took me in (after having the worst experience with my 1st obgyn). It was the best decision we made (and thankfully he took us in) to switch doctors despite being so far along but I will tell you that there is no price or peace of mind when it comes to having a doctor that is as caring and knowledgeable as he is. Although some people have mentioned that his office is older (however it is exceptionally clean!), that doesn't take away from his experience as a doctor. Others have mentioned the office staff not being so nice and well that's never been the case with me. I have had nothing but a great experience with everyone there. I feel like I'm seeing family when I come to see them (and I am not related by no means). I understand that most women who are pregnant have a variety of emotions brought on by an influx of hormones (I wasn't short of those same issues when I was preggo ), but keep in mind, it's always best to remember to be nice and respectful to those that are there to take care of you. That goes with anything in life. Be nice and people will always try to help you. Be mean and they'll tell you to kick rocks. When reading the reviews, do keep in mind that Dr Chiang (and his office staff) have a multitude of great reviews for a reason. It's because they truly care. Oh, and if you like a doctor with a sense of humor who will gently tease you to stay on track (for your own good), vs a doctor who is uptight and unresponsive (which was what I dealt with previous to him), then you made a good bet with coming to see Dr Chiang. That being said, there has yet to be a time that he hasn't responded to me in a timely manner when I called worried about something and throughout my delivery, he had me laughing while I was trying to push my baby out. What does that say? So if you are looking for a fantastic doctor with staff that cares, your best bet is Dr Chiang and his team. He might have people waiting for him and his office might be busy when you come, but be patient. You want a doctor who has patients. Oh, and I can also say I've never really had to wait long every time I've seen him. Just be sure to come with a smile (hey!! you're having a baby!! You should be smiling from ear to ear), and have faith that you are in good hands. Oh, and really evaluate the negative reviews and compare them with the great ones. There is always bound to be someone unhappy about something. At the end of the day, what's most important is being with a doctor that is well experienced and honest. Sometimes honesty hurts but try to keep things in perspective. The ultimate end result is a happy and healthy baby and a smooth and easy delivery. You can count on Dr Chiang and his staff to guide you accordingly. (And in no way did I get bribed to write such a review ....I just really think the world of Dr Chiang and his staff (Brenda/Elvira/Sunny/Mai) and am very thankful for them being a part of our lives. ) read more

I randomly chose Dr. Chiang for my Dr when I became pregnant with my 1st child back in 2008. I am VERY HAPPY her is the Dr. I have come across. I am always quick to recommend him to anyone looking OB. I am now pregnant with my 2nd child, almost 5 years later, and of course not much has changed. There are 2 new staff members, but they are just as friendly as the 2 ones that im familiar with from my 1st experience. I love how they talk to me about my previous pregnancy that was soo long ago, it makes me feel like they really care about their patients. Dr. Chiang is very thorough about everything and he is ALWAYS willing to answer ANY serious, silly or weird questions you may have for him (from experience) :) and he never seems impatient about anything. and he will answer honestly! Dr Chiang was recommended by a friend. I was a bit hesitant at first since I Had my own OBGYN....I recently delivered my 3rd baby and I couldn't be happier with Dr Chiang! Now I wish I would have delivered all my babies with him. I had a bit of complications with my labor and let me tell u he consistantly went into my room to check on my baby and I...did I mention it was 2am....I know that as a doctor those hours come with the job but Dr Chiang was very patient and understanding. Where to begin, Dr.Chiang is AMAZING! He puts his patients before himself at all times. Dr.Chiang makes himself available for calls, or any emergency situation, when he's in the office or not. I have been blessed to be able to receive care from him, he delivered my first daughter at 39 weeks via C-Section. Dr.Chiang was sure to provide with the upmost and important information regarding a c-Section, he made sure we were aware of any possible complications and that we got all our questions answered. Now, I'm due very soon with my second child, and he again is my doctor. I'm not at all worried about delivering, because he knows my case and knows me personally, that he takes the time to continue to show how much he cares! I love Dr.Chiang, he's the nicest, smartest most informed OB doctor I've ever met! I'd recommended him a million times if I could. Probably the best Obgyn and staff in San Gabriel. Dr Chiang is honest and real. He makes his patients feel like more than just a patient. Even though you come back for a second pregnancy he will treat it as if it were your first. IMO he practices safe than sorry approach and will do whatever he can to keep you and your fetus unharmed. His office can get crowded at times but it is with good reason. Besides, his staff work quick and efficiently to get you in and out. Dr. Chiang is a great OBGYN. I wish I could recommend more woman to his office. He is a caring and honest man and always think patients first. I recently had my babe boy 8lbs.8oz. During my 29hrs laboring in the hospital Dr. Chiang has visited/checked on me for several times. he was there even in the 3 or 4 am to check on me. I have heard other OBGYN just be there to catch the babe not even show up during the laboring. I am very happy that I found doctor Chiang. He spends time with you and answer your questions not rush you out every time you visit him. He is kinda doctor prefer you can delivery with virginal. not encourage c-section if you are healthy prego. I don't mind the wait in his office I know he is taking his time to take care the patients. I was referred to Dr. Chiang by a friend. I had my own ob/gyn but given that this was my first pregnancy, I decided to do extensive research on my doctor. Came to realize that my doctor had some malpractice/sanction issues in the past. I decided to find a new doctor and I am so glad I did! Dr. Chiang takes his job very seriously and knows what he is doing. Most importantly, he is not money hungry and does not overbook himself. He made me feel very comfortable in asking questions. One time I even called the office to ask a simple question (expecting a nurse to give me an answer), but instead dr chiang got on the line to talk to me. Another thing that I loved about this office... the staff! All the girls there are so nice and more importantly, they are competent! Thank you Dr. Chiang and team for making my pregnancy an easy one! Dr. Chiang is my favorite doctor on the entire planet. I LOVE HIM! He took well care of me during two pregnancies and delivered two of my babies, the first one was a preemie and second one had a birth weight of 9 pounds and 1 ounce. I had vaginal deliveries for both. Dr. Chiang is very knowledgable, on time, detailed and genuinely caring. When I was hospitalized at the high risk maternity unit for about a week for my first delivery, doctor visited me every early morning and gave me very detailed instructions on what to expect for the day. This is a long overdue review.. I found Dr Chiang on yelp because I wanted a good OBGYN when I did become pregnant. My family doctor had recommended me to go to Elsie Wu but after reading all the negative reviews, I went with Dr Chiang instead on my own. I'm so glad I did. Making an appt was quick and easy and for me it's always been a Friday. Wait time has always been no longer than 30 min! Guess I've been lucky and he hasn't been on call for delivery :) The staff in the office are super nice, friendly, and informative. Dr Chiang answered all my questions patiently and thoroughly. He is attentive and not once did I feel rush to leave. During a pap, there is always an assistant present and he chats with you during the process to make you feel comfortable. For me with test results over phone, he would personally get on the phone to discuss with me. Other doctors won't take time out of their busy schedule for their non pregnant patients! I will definitely be back for my next appt and if I ever get pregnant :) read more
