This is definitely one of my go to spots in Novato. I like the atmosphere and the food and service are reliably solid. I love their carbonara and salads. I was delighted when my friend took me here for my birthday.

A Novato favorite. The food is always good as is the service. Think casual hometown family Italian that you grew up with or spent time with friends.

Had reservations for early dinner, and we were seated promptly in a booth style table. Our server was friendly and attentive, although couldn't answer some of our questions about items on the menu. Bread and butter available for an extra charge. Ordered the gamberi al limone, which was delicious! Six prawns in a lemon butter sauce, with mashed potatos and veggies. Also had the gnocchi with pesto, which was also quite good. Finished with the flourless chocolate cake and vanilla gelato, also quite good. The place stays busy and I suspect many customers are local regulars. I'd eat here again.

Do not come here to expect authentic true Italian cooking. This is more like Italian American cuisine just cooked deliciously. And so aaaahhh ... Valentine's night for dinner. We scored a reservation for the two of us the night before for 5:00pm on Valentine's night which is when they open. We were seated immediately upon walking in and service was great. Just a lemonade for me while hubby enjoys a glass of their super Tuscan wine. We ordered our usual favorites, the Pollo Parmigiana for him, and the Pork Milanese for me. The Pork Milanese is my favorite entree which comes topped with a delicious garlic sauce, perfectly cooked mixed veggies, and my choice of their cheddar polenta. Consistently good food and appreciate the great service.

Service by the lady who was in her late 30s-40s with dark hair was atrocious!! The cioppino was extremely salty and full of calamari rings. The steak was decent, we also had fettuccine , which was also mediocre at best. Overall a 3.5. Sadly, not going to be our go to Italian place in town.

My favorite dish here is the pescatore (seafood pasta). It's a little pricey, but they give so much seafood!! And the sauce is delicious because they put clam juice in with the red sauce which helps elevate the flavors. You can pick whatever noodles you want, but I believe it comes with capellini (thin noodles) if you don't ask for a specific one. I usually get spaghetti. The restaurant can get a little loud inside, and it's pretty dark, but it helps set the mood/vibe. Never had a problem with service, always friendly enough. Only reason for 4 stars is because it's a little pricey for pasta, and the pasta doesn't taste fresh to me, like I don't think they make it fresh in the kitchen. But it still tastes good!

What an amazing restaurant and experience. My wife and I went there for our anniversary and wanted something that was a little different than our usual family/kid-friendly style restaurant and heard great things about Chianti Cucina so we gave it a shot. I'm glad we did. Upon entering it has a cozy, old world and dare I say...somewhat romantic atmosphere(?). However, the floors are tile and it stays busy so it might be loud if you go in peak times. The service makes up for it in every metric though. Our server was very attentive, very knowledgeable regarding the food and wine menu and she was fast! I was actually surprised, I don't mind a dining experience that is a little slower paced when I'm on date night. The food is so flippin' good! I had a Ravioli special with short rib and a pomodoro sauce and the flavors were just spectacular! The quality of the dish was probably the finest pasta dish i've had in Novato. The freshness of the tomatoes in the sauce, the fresh herb medley on top with a slight sprinkling of parmesan really balanced out the heavier cheese/short rib ravioli base. The whole thing had a nice blend of flavors. I topped it off with a Napa wine. My wife chose an italian wine, I was not as daring lol. If we had more time and more space I would definitely try some dessert. Next time for sure! I can't wait to go back.

The vongole linguini was very good; the sauce was light but flavorful, the clams were fresh, and the linguini was cooked to perfection. The fried calamari was crispy and well seasoned. The servers were wonderful; friendly, attentive, and helpful. The only unpleasant experience was that some of the bread plates and water glasses were not real clean

Prices have increased over the years, but not offensively. My recent Assorted Delite "half" sandwich was $11.50 but still as big and ginormous as I last remembered and plenty of food for one big person like myself. The fresh rolls is toasted perfectly, not burnt, the inner white bread stays fluffy and doughy. There is enough ham, pastrami, and salami proteins to keep you satisfied, and just the right amount lettuce, tomato, and onion. The ingredients are nothing exotic, but somehow this magical delicious combination can't seem to be replicated anywhere else in the world except humble, dull, sleepy Novato California. No crunch. Walked back in and said, "I ordered extra crispy and it it's not." The guy said. "You want it crispy?" To which I responded, "yes, that's why I ordered it extra crispy!!!" He said, "ok, I'll make it crispier for you," When it was ready, he said, "here you go, babe." Babe!? I kept my cool but Wtf? You don't know me and I'm not your babe. When I got home, I realized that yes, they had toasted the sub more... along with the tomatoes and lettuce. So I ended up with hot veggies, which made the sides of the sandwich totally soggy. Worst sandwich I can remember having. Thanks for nothing, 'babe.'

Juan S. was our server for the night. Very knowable about the menu and the dishes. We started with a classic Caesar salad that we shared. It was plenty enough for us. My husband loved the pasta as well. For 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine, 1 Caesar salad, 1 bruschetta and a cannoli for later, our bill was $152, before tip. Well worth it.

After we were finally seated and put in our order for drinks, appetizers and main dishes, we waited quite a long time to get our food served. Quality-- not sure if we ordered the wrong things or went in on an off night, but for some reason everything we ordered was underwhelming and lackluster, from the: -drinks (cucumber mojito and strawberry balsamic mocktails) -bruschetta was average -meatballs were sort of flavorless -spinach ravioli with pesto was bland -parpadelle was also bland and portion was oddly small Overall, the food and service was unsatisfactory for the price we paid for the bill. We were excited to come here to celebrate our anniversary and left the restaurant feeling super unfulfilled with our meals. Safe to say we won't be coming back to this establishment, nor will we be suggesting this restaurant to friends and family.

Service here was attentive, and I appreciate the table-side cheese and fresh cracked pepper offering after you entree arrives. The top-up on the table bread throughout the evening was nice as well. The food was my biggest issue at Trattoria Roma. While the meatball appetizer was delicious -- super tender, seasoned well, and sauce was tomato forward with just the right amount of tartness, the pasta dishes missed the mark. The texture of the house-made gnocchi was not what I'm used to. When the gnocchi arrived, the gnocchi held its form just fine. However, no more than a few minutes into eating the dish, the gnocchi lost its shape and turned into mush, and the whole dish took on the texture of cheesy mashed potatoes. The pesto sauce I opted for with the gnocchi was heavily diluted and the whole dish needed more salt. My wife's clam linguini dish had overcooked noodles. It's a shame because the clam flavor was quite good in the dish. For a family of four, our dinner came out to about $150 for four pastas and two orders of meatballs. Our waiter was super attentive and friendly, and I have to say service was great! Everything came out in a timely manner. We started out with a glass for Chianti Classico, which is a red wine. It was good, but it was warmer than room temperature. Ive been to Italy and had amazing Italian food, so the bar is set very high for us. We ordered the burrata, spaghetti carbonara, and penne salciccia. The burrata itself was very cold, the balsamic glaze that it came with was hardened, not really smooth where you can dip the burrata or prosciutto with. Having said that, the prosciutto itself was really good and the arugula made it that much better. When I order pasta, I expect the pasta to be al dente, and unfortunately both pasta dishes were too well done. The taste of the penne salciccia was actually very flavorful, and i enjoyed the sausage. The spaghetti carbonara was super heavy and buttery, maybe a little more than I'm used to. Overall, the dishes were tasty but I prefer my pasta to be al dente.
