    Turon
    A A.

Ethan's just stole the top spot as my favorite Filipino restaurant in Carson. A two-item combo is $13.99, and if you add turon and a guilt tip, you're looking at around $20 for lunch -- solid value for what you get these days. I was told to try the sinigang, while my usual fave is pinakbet. The sinigang came through with a generous amount of pork and a perfectly balanced sourness. The pinakbet was loaded with veggies and kabocha squash, and I really appreciated that nothing was overcooked. Pro tip: go earlier in the day for peak freshness. But the true star? The turon. Hands down the best I've had in this style. It even beats Pampanga's Bakery in Artesia -- Ethan's version actually has filling, while Pampanga's leans way heavier on the wrapper. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Pancit and some meat thing that's a 5/5

I came to the wrong restaurant looking for sisig. I meant to go to the belly boink but I came in here instead. This is the typical Filipino steam table food but also they have cook to order items that take about 15 minutes. Me and my mom did the typical point and make a box and I don't know what she ordered but the meat was a 5/5 for tenderness and flavor. It had a citrus and BBQ taste going on. I asked her what it's called and she said "if you see it again just point, idk what this is" I also tried one piece of turon. It was the freshest sweetest and crispiest I've ever had in the US. There are quite a few tables inside but it got busy and full fast. It's very casual inside. The parking lot looks like it can be a pain and indeed was pretty full when I left.

    Tapsilog and lechon kawali

Tapas was ok but the real star was the lechon kawali. They made it fresh for me so it was so juicy and crispy! Staff was also friendly and welcoming.

All the cakes are prebaked and packaged, but one can come in to have it decorated with custom lettering while you wait. While we waited, we also ordered two other things that we all love from here: their shanghai style egg rolls (25 pieces for $21) and their miki bihon pancit (medium, enough to feed a family, for $21). We've tried a lot of different version from different places all over, and have come to the conclusion that we like the version at Gemmae's, the best (as long as for my wife, they skip adding patis to the pancit). They also have a turo turo steam table here. The yellow curry chicken caught my eye, so got a small container of that. It was solid...first time eating yellow curry (tasted just like the japanese style) at a Filipino restaurant.

We also grabbed a frozen pack of Shanghai, fried it up at home, and wow, it was so good. I highly recommend picking up a pack if you visit! I love that this shop offers both savory food and sweets, so definitely come hungry. The service was quick and friendly, and the interior made me feel like I was transported straight to the Philippines. Pro tip: stop by around 1 pm-3 pm for a great experience.

We went here to try their filipino food on a saturday afternoon for lunch…read more The food prices were on the sit down area were on the higher end $20-30+ for normal, traditional mains that did not include rice, drinks, or sides (that is on the higher end for non gourmet filipino food). However, they also had a buffet style "scoop and go service" on the corner that has the same food on the menu but in combination plates and much more affordable pricing ($12+) that also included rice. We did not understand the discrepancy in pricing since it's the same food and pretty much the same sizing (maybe slightly smaller mains) though they may cook the food fresh/heat it up on the sit down area. My group ordered a variety of food including lechon kawali, garlic rice, vegetables, soup, pancit, etc. and they were very tasty and hit home! well seasoned. The place was not very busy so it was quick. We decided to sit in the restaurant with our ordered food since we were the only ones there. I ordered a main that was running low and the employee told me that they had to cook it and I had to wait which was fine with me. The man ended up not giving me much of the new cooked pieces but mostly of the leftovers and added a couple of pieces of the fresh ones, which was fine but with the wait made it disappointing since I could have just gotten some of the old pieces from the beginning and started eating it. Decent place - I would recommend their "scoop and go" service area for fast service and more reasonable pricing. *I heard they have karaoke in the late afternoon, which may change the vibe and atmosphere of this place so we may need to check that out! 3.2/5
