Sure, I've had them bookmarked for awhile, but the mood or the timing was never in sync. Then Big Bro came up for a visit and asked where we can get Pinoy Street Food grub. So, we're in the South Bay area and we didn't feel like driving all the way to that more-famous-much-more-well-known place in Los Angeles, so I suggested this place. We had to make a stop at Seafood City so the timing couldn't even be better! As the rest of our party were doing their shopping, Big Bro and walked by. He was interested in the few street food skewers they had as well as dinakdakan and kilawen. The only let down (which wasn't their fault!) was that they ran out of isaw! (They were in the process of cooking some for later service.) So, I'm guessing that particular item is popular. Big Bro and I (along with some family members) enjoyed the goodies he brought home. The chicken was tender and tasty and seasoned well. The fishballs were nothing out of the ordinary. The dinakdakan and the kilawen were out of bounds delicious! So, yeah, it was a good first run! Chicken was better but dipped in the vinegar alongside the crunchy bits, it wasn't bad at all. Lobster ball - 2 pieces. Tastes like the ones at h mart. Would pass next time. Fish cake - 3 pieces. Slightly chewy with some crisp from the fryer. Okay. Quail egg - 6 pieces. This was one of my favorites. Crunchy from the batter (I have no idea why it's orange) and then creamy from the yolk. Located where Little Dim Sum used to be, near Seafood City, is this new Filipino eatery. The moment I saw the sign for this Pinoy joint, I had my heart set on checking it out. I came right when they opened on a Friday. It's a small little place with a couple Filipino desserts on the side on display for sale. Up at the main counter is where you order your food. This is not a Filipino turo-turo restaurant where food is already made, instead you order the food and then they make it. They have combo deals that includes rice and soup for dine in only. 1 item combo starts at $4.99 up to $8.50. 2 item combo starts at $6.40 up to $9. I chose to get the $8.50 1 item combo with the Bistek Tagalog while my friend got the $5.99 1 item combo with Pinakbet with Pork. First served to us was the free soup that comes with the combo. It's a fairly simple soup with cabbage. It was a little salty but was ok. Not bad but not the best either. It's basic broth with a little salt and greens I had high expectations for my Bistek Tagalog. The traditional beef with onion dish is one of my favorite Filipino dishes and I couldn't wait to see how it was here. When my combo came out, I was surprised with the portion I saw. It was a couple pieces of beef spread out in the container with a bunch of onions. It was small for an $8.50 price and I was disappointed up front. I however hoped that taste wise my initial disappointment would diminish. Honestly it was ok until I noticed it was a bit on the greasy side. The accompanying rice was also not too good. My friend even made a comment it's the lower grade type of rice. Similarly my friend's Pinakbet with Pork was also a small portion with mostly veggies and little pork. Lastly we tried their pichi pichi for dessert. The coconut rice cake was ok. I had been looking forward to checking this place out and unfortunately the prices and what we got just didn't match. My $8.50 combo which consisted of a low grade, hard rice, a bunch of onions and little meat in greasy sauce. It unfortunately was not worth that $8.50. This prices here a lot too compared to other Filipino eateries. I'm all for freshly made food and perhaps this is the reason for the high price but the sadly quality and quantity wasn't there with what I got. read more

The parentals and I came here just to check it out. My dad has always seen this place but never checked it out until I urged him to go in. The place is small. The staff was friendly. We ordered the inihaw (grilled meats on a stick). We got a few of the pork ear, pork intestines, chicken intestines, and fish balls. We noticed they have other items on the menu. We didn't order any of it because we just wanted a quick snack. By the way, each skewer was $1 and I believe they only have this available during the weekends. Anyhow, the pig ears were amazing. There was enough crunch because of the cartilage and then when you dip it in vinegar, it tastes even better. The intestines were okay. I'm not a fan but I still eat it. The fish balls were good. There was also kikiam, hot dogs, chicken and pork skewers - we didn't see this until we already paid. There's always next time. Overall, we will be back. My girlfriend, friends and I went here last night because we just thought about eating some food in Andrew Zimmern's catalog. My girlfriend and I went here before; just want to introduced my friends how awesome Filipino street foods are. The ambiance is pretty decent, just like a normal food eatery in a Filipino plaza. By the way, they have a charging fee below $10, but ordering a lot of food is a good thing :) My friends ordered their balut(unfertilized duck egg), which is a Filipino delicacy through out the Philippines. They love it because it's eggy and meaty as well. The soup inside the balut have a warm feeling when you sip it. They ordered the usual pork BBQ because we all know Filipino BBQ are sweet and delicious. One of my friends, tried the balut for the first time and completed one of his bucket list, so that's a success! My girlfriend and I ordered our usual isaw(chicken grilled intestine). This grilled intestine is one of main street food in the Philippines and this place did a decent job. Their isaw was marinated with a sweet sauce, which is yummy, but they served it kinda cold; so that's just one of my knock on it. Their kwek kwek(battered fried quail eggs) is the best of all their street food items. It is crispy and flavorful, I cannot get enough of it. The price is a little bit expensive than some of the Filipino street food joints, too. Overall, I'll give it a 3.5 close to a 4 star just because it takes guts to introduced these street food to the public and some of these Filipino street food is an acquired taste to say the least. Weird trip. Old man didn't seem to speak much English-- he spoke mostly in Tagalog. It was a struggle to order. The pork on the warmer was a bit overcooked, which I dont consider acceptable at 11. I had ordered a grilled pork skewer, which took awhile. But I took one bite and it was the most amazing pork skewer ive had in my life. Weird trip. I've come to learn that every Philippine family adds their very own touch to a specific recipe, so if you had previously tried something at a party and liked it, it might taste slightly different when someone else prepares the same dish. The initial plan was to grab BBQ sticks but I couldn't resist trying out the salted pepper pork chops. The BBQ are awesome, they go so well with the passion fruit iced tea - they use real passion fruit with good quality tea! The may have pre cut it & kept in the fridge for days that colors have changed especially the carrots, it looked grayish in color. Yummy yummy Filipino food! Large portions at reasonable prices! Courteous staff and easy parking! There are so many pluses for this place! It's next to or part of a little shopping center off of Carson full of Filipino stores. It's a very simple shop, no fuss decor and is just about serving up good food. I got the sisig, pinkabet, garlic fried rice and the seafood pancit. All were so good and fed 5 people with plenty of leftovers. I think Filipino cuisine is just great comfort food and if you like it as much as I do then you've got to come try this place too! read more

I've been here plenty of times now. I've just about tried everything and this place has not disappointed. This is not your usual turu-turo (point-point) place. They cook everything fresh-to-order so nothing is just sitting in oil under a heat lamp or on a water heater. Their breakfast plates are served all day!! The garlic rice that comes with it is the best. The garlic isn't too over-empowering so as to not take away from the rest of the dish. Plus no strong garlic breathe for later :) Best "street-side" style of BBQ. They even have isaw which is rare to see in most Filipino restaurants. They have BBQ on the stick as well and the sauce they use is the best I've had so far. And they have more on the menu. (You'll just have to see for yourself...hehehe) Best part is they also do party platter!!!! So I'll be coming here to order for parties!!! As a disclaimer I am of nowhere near related to the family that owns this restaurant. Those who complained about the food probably never grew up in Philippines. I am a big fan of Filipino street food! I got excited when I've heard that Ma Jing sells streetfood bbq on skewers. I've tried the adidas, bite-sized Pork Ears, chicken butt, and Isaws (pork and chicken). The innards of the isaw were scraped intensively and boiled for extra sanitation. All bbqs were pre boiled with the flavor of pepper and salt, take note it's not sweet bbq. It's actually missing the sweet-salty bbq sauce flavor. Isaws are chewy and soft. I just hope they have grilled them a liitle bit more. They grill the bbq as you ordered. Unsure if it's charcoal grilled. After I got my order, I'm anticipating the smell of grilled bbq basted in sweet-salty peppery bbq sauce. Well it's not like that with Ma Jing's bbq. In fairness, the wait is not that long. The bbqs were best eaten hot off the grill with vinegar sauce. However, the vinegar that came along with my order is not that sour. It's so light on the acid taste like it was mixed with water. The vinegar from Nita's restaurant would best match their bbq. I suggest they also make a chile vinegar sauce. Overall, the taste is okay and acceptable. It's not bad but not the best. I would still go back and try their Helmet, Fishball, Hotdog and Kwek kwek. read more

I dont know what happened to this place. It used to be so good. Now it has changed drastically. Some of the food choices they have in the morning taste bland and seem like it was days old. They eggrolls were burnt and only because they were trying to hide the real fact that it was an old batch that tasted horrible! Imagine eating spoiled ground meat. It also smelled so bad after taking a bite. Not only that... i paid for a certain amount of lumpia shanghai pieces i should at least get what i paid for nothing less! That's kind of shady. There were also flies flying in the restaurant in the morning!?!? The morning?! Place must be dirty when flies come in that early ( its a funny observation but it is gross to see flies anywhere inside a restaurant. Flies presence Outdoor dining is one thing but flies touching base on and near food indoors early in morning is not good!). As for the customer service... i cant complain. The ones that helped me were nice. Especially the cute little lady. She was very nice and helpful when it came to explaining which dish was which. Thank you for that. The food taste quality and choices is not very good. Therefore, Food rating is a very low 2 out of 5. As for the customer services and hospitality i give her and the person i spoke on the phone a 5 out of 5 because they were kind and helpful. Plus the guy i spoke to for my refund, didnt give me a difficult time about returning the burnt and Spoiled eggrolls. That deserves a perfect rating for their customer service. This took some time to research, as it has been a bit difficult to find Polynesian and Oceanic cuisine in Southern California, but look no further than Ma Jing's Eatery. Start off your day with Tinola soup. It comes in two sizes - large soup or a smaller soup with rice on the side. The tinola soup was gingery boiled in a delicious chicken broth. Tinola was the perfect meal for a rainy, cold and wintery day in Los Angeles. Afterwards, we ended our meal with Pichi-Pichi, a traditional dessert made with coconut and cassava. Although I am not 100% sure that their PIchi-Pichi is made with cassava, it was nonetheless outstanding. The Pichi-Pichi- was soft, doughy, sweet. It was like eating warm coconut dough. I'm not sure if this is still the same owner because outside the restaurant it's saying "Jerry's Kambingan". Anyway, the food is pretty good. However, it's pretty pricey and they are not very generous with the amount of rice and sides that they give you. They don't have such thing as the usual combination price. They charge individual prices. We went here last week and we paid for 4 scoops of rice with 4 individual small sides 2 meats and two different kinds of veggies and 1 soda and it came out to $32 something which when we go to Tita Celia or any other small Filipino restaurants we usually pay for 2 combos plus a drink we usually pay $22-24. The place is very small, health sign is C and I can see why cause it's not very clean. Tables and chairs can be sticky at times. Also, make sure you bring cash cause they charge .50 cents every time you use your card so if you forget to buy something and you use your card again you get charge.50 cents again. So, we tried this for the third time today just to be fair before I give my review but I really think this will be our last time coming here it's just way too pricey compare to other places. Craving for Filipino street food Friday to Sunday this is it for South Bay. We ordered all the $1.00 barbque on a stick and the liempo. The isaw was soft and chewy but missing the smokey taste of grilled barbque. Ditto with the rest of the it. The best one was the lobster ball which was really tasty even without the sauce. We also had the pansit canton which was so bland. Not even the soy sauce, fish sauce nor the lemon juice could make it tastier. They serve more Filipino foods like Pansit Malabon, sotanghon and the likes. Tinola, dinuguan, lechon kawali etc. They have desserts too. Prices for catering are on the wall. The kid who was at the register should take classes at customer serive. Not once did he smile at the customers. Such a stoic face and would hardly answer questions. Friendly service. Food quality is good. We've ordered the bagoong fried rice which was very good (not too salty), maja de mais (desert). We've also ordered the shu-mai (dim sum) and its ok but not great as I've had better. I still order the shu-mai because I need my dim sum fix from time to time. I've also had the fresh lumpia, which was very good. The garlic in this dish wasn't overpowering, unlike the ones I've ordered from Leelin Bakery (Goldilocks) in Cerritos.
