The last review is correct, however I am writing from a customer point of view. Let me start with the esthetics. The place looks like a dump. The furniture is tacky and outdated not to mention kind of falling apart. The bathroom was gross and the soap was leaking out of the dispenser. Now to my nails. i will say the nail girl was SUPER nice. I got to know her pretty well in the THREE HOURS that I was there. Three hours, for a full set of acrylic (when I asked for gel...) The set was $10 with an extra $5 for french. They do not use drills. All of the filing is done by hand, which at first I thought was nice since the drills ruin your nails, but I am one week in and my nails are literally falling off. Not to mention the french was uneven and just plain bad looking. I could have probably asked her to fix it but I was there for THREE HOURS. I got them done last Thursday and am pulling them off today since one fell off. I will be saving that $20 and going to crestwood where you can get a full gel set for $28 read more

I wish more students AND clients would review this school. I was registered for this school in early February ish of 2013. The price caught my eye, FAIL. I then decided to look into what the school had to offer. The best reviews are word of mouth. I found out that this school does not train its students in using a nail drill. That was concerning seeing that many nail shops use them...MOST Salons and Spas' file by hand with the same quality...I wanted to have the option. After presenting the curriculum to an IL State Board member, I was enlightened that Chicago Nail School is missing REQUIRED parts. By this time I had already rendered $1,500 to the sh cool in payments for my course. I withdrew late March...March 29. The owner had 30 business days INCLUDING Saturdays to pay me $1,400 ($100 was non refundable). I was to be paid in full no later than Thursday May 2 2013. I called Mr Williams (owner of Chicago Nail School) every Friday since I drove the 1 hour and 20 minutes to withdraw in person. Mr William lied multiple times about having started the refund process and stating that payment was in the mail. The last week of April into the early days of May I became more frequent, calling almost daily. I got one payment on Wednesday 5.8.13 dated May 3. The other part of the payment was received Tuesday 5.7.13 via my debit card. I will say that no matter what school you choose to attend for any program, Nails, Cosmo, or Esthetics...you will need to pay tuition to INCLUDE the cost of a kit. After your initial kit has diminished you have to buy more supplied to be able to provide your service. It is a LAW that as student you cannot receive payment for service, but you CAN take tips. I've accepted tips and have also invested my own money into additional supplied. Most of my supplies are provided by the school (i.e. nail polish, top coat, base coat, nail files, nail buffers, soaking bowls, disinfectant). The first tool I have had to purchase is my brush...the school allows us to use MOST things to provide service for clients and models. I am currently attending school here. My experience thus far has been very positive. I feel confident that under Mr Roys teachings I am on the road to becoming an excellent well trained Nail Tech. I am confident that I will have the skill set to not only successfully pass the State Board but to also be a successful respected nail tech in the indusry. They say, "you get what you pay for!" Well, this place is all about MONEY. The owner is the worst when it comes to customer service. Upon enrolling as a student, he sells you a "nail kit" and you still end up spending hundreds of dollars on your own for more supplies. When you perform services on clients you must use your own supplies and he makes 100% profit without spending any money. The "school" is outdated and you will basically will learn EVERYTHING on your own. He is a not a good teacher and talks down to the students on top of being politically incorrect. My review is a little late but I attended and completed my hours here for a nail license. I attended from November 2014 to February or March 2015. Let me first start by saying that I chose this school because the tuition was affordable and also because it is a minority owed and operated business but BE AWARE. I live in the West Suburbs of the city, I made the commute everyday for the 14 weeks of the program. That's about 25 miles one way. But...I made the sacrifice. About 5 weeks through the program, My brother was killed. I reached out by telephone first to Mr. Roy to inform him of the tragedy. Thereafter, making the drive to speak with him face to face. I had a verbal conversation with Mr. Roy where he assured me that I was able to take some time off and pick back up with the program upon returning. I was never advised that I should have gotten our verbal agreement in writing for validation later. Before I continue, let me just state that this school is not ran like traditional "school". Mr. Roy just kind of goes along with what feels right at the time. He caught me at a very emotional state and I take blame for not getting our verbal agreement in writing. LESSON LEARNED!! Once returning to school he hits me with this the "FULL TUITION" $2,500 as the $1,500 is a special provided that you finish the program in the allotted time outlined in your student contact OR WRITE A LETTER TO STOP YOUR TIME IN THE EVENT YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO COMPLETE AT THAT TIME. (MY MISTAKE). I returned to school a few weeks later with more money to pay. My argument to him was that was the whole point in me making the trip to speak with him....he responded to me that "He thought I wanted to talk to my classmates. Which I never did! I did thank the ladies that where in class at the time for the card and accepted their warm condolences but my intention was to handle school business. Still I completed the program. As for the curriculum, Mr. Roy can be very knowledgeable when he WANTS to be. For the most part this is a very independent program. He and his nail tech instructors will preform demonstrations on how to use product systems (i.e. no chips, gel sets, acrylic set, top coats etc.) but that is very minimal. I am not a person that needs a pat on the back and encouragement for everything done correctly but Mr. Roy can be harsh. If you lay acrylic incorrectly he will call you out right in front of your client. You are given a small nail kit (some come complete, some don't and Mr. Roy wont care if he shorted you on your kit...he'll just sell it to you from his small nail supply inventory store in the front of the school.) which is used for the paying clients that comes through the door for service. He will only provide towels and cleaning supplies, everything else is on the student to provide to complete the service. Students are required to complete some where around 75 services before they will be allowed to conclude the program. I was ok with this part of the curriculum because I am not a feet person (boarder line hate other ppl's feet) but this made me comfortable enough to preform pedicures. Mr. Roy will not expect you to work on ppl that have suspected infections. I loved this about CNS, he didn't care if the client threatened not to come back. Mr. Roy would not risk exposing students and other patrons. I really appreciated this in him. Overall, Mr. Roy is not the worse that I've encountered but he can use some improvement. I will say that I learned a lot here but not because of the direction of the teaching staff here but mostly because when I was attending there were a lot of ladies there that were serious about doing nails so we taught each other and educated ourselves. This is an ADULT program and it will feel like it. All in all if you're hung up on looks, technology, professionalism, and some one to hold your hand...This may not be the place for you. We had a really nice Christmas party and got to see Mr. Roy in a different light. He is not a bad guy just one with a business that want to make some money. From that perspective, I'm not mad at my choice to complete the nail license program here because it is affordable compared to the few schools in business offering this program. Mr. Roy will work with a lot of different financial situations (at least he did when I attended). I would say give him a try because he really does seem passionate about doing nails and students being able to make some money after completing his program. Before completing this program I had never laid acrylic before I will update my review later with a picture from school and one of my current skills. this other person is right, this guy is aggressive when you argue with him, he will not tell you the other 3 to 4 thousand you have to pay out of your pocket on top of the other 1900.00, he is smooth with talk and talks down to students, see it for yourself and wait for other reviews, stay away or else join and come back when you finish and let others know how much more you have spend in this place?, he lies to people just to have them join his school, I finished his school but end up spending total 4,500.00, ask other students how much they spend? ask privately when they finish school and are pissed off when they know how this really was with this school read more
