Hopefully, a human will actually read this review and look into making adjustments accordingly. PMTP is setting its Future Professionals up for failure, not success. I was introduced to the Clean Beauty Hydrate line and Neuro Prime at a different Paul Mitchell location. It has worked so well on my hair that I've purchased bottles to use at home when I can't make it to The School. Now that my local Paul Mitchell The School has closed, I had hoped PMTP would be my go-to location. Although the product is on the sales shelves, PMTP does not permit ANY students to use Clean Beauty shampoo and conditioner. An upcharge for the preferred products is not an option either, I asked. How would clients know to purchase Clean Beauty products if students can't use it on guests' hair? Neuro Prime, another product that works wonders on my hair is only available to a select group of Future Professionals. So, Alai, as patient as she was, had an unnecessary battle with my hair because she was forbidden from using beneficial products that are sitting visible on a shelf. Other students at Paul Mitchell Tinley Park can use Neuro Prime, but not the learning phase that she is in. Unless that policy changes, this visit will be considered a one and done. PMTP should be ashamed of those business practices. read more

I had my hair done last week and the stylist laid the curling iron on the back of my neck, causing a burn. She did not report it to the teacher so I assumed it was minor. Well, fast forward to this week and I can feel a scab that's about an inch and a half. They continue to ignore the mask rule! On a return visit this week, I noted that the student beside us had his mask below his nose and mouth as did his client. Several instructors passed by but no one reminded him to cover up. read more

I had a great experience here. I came in on a Saturday and it was super busy but I did not have to wait long. I came in for a color and cut and then I wanted to get my eye brows done as well. Each service was great. They are preformed by students but the instructors are helping out along the way and checking in to make sure it is being done properly. The services take a little bit longer than you would experience in a salon but with the prices you just can't beat it. Will definitely be back! read more

I went to TrendSetters in Mokena a couple of months ago and I cannot express how much I did not like my experience. When I first walked in, the two girls working the counter basically ignored me until I walked up and even then, I got the distinct impression that I was interrupting their conversation. I milled around looking at some of the Paul Mitchell products while I was waiting for my haircut because I had been wanting to pick up some while I was there (I love Paul Mitchell things, except TrendSetters!). I didn't end up buying any because I was in such a hurry to get out of there (it felt like a bitchy-High School Reunion that wasn't invited to). My stylist then called my name and I followed her into the back. She was acting like she was the one who lost the coin toss and had to take me as a client. We awkwardly then made small talk while she was shampooing me until she had me follow her to her chair. Once I was seated and she found out what I wanted, she proceeded to ignore me for the next twenty minutes. It didn't help that all of the others girls in the salon were seated around us having some inane conversation about how hard their lives were. Give me a break! What a waste of time. The school itself is very clean and the staff at the desk were very friendly. Unfortunately the woman they assigned to me was very rude. She argued with the teacher the who was there to help her with my cut and color. She pushed my head around like it was a mannequin. At the shampoo bowl she hit my head and acted as if she was not happy with being there and doing her job. She did not know how to blow dry my hair and that ended up in an argument with her and I called the teacher over and asked for someone else to finish me, the teacher made her do it, which only made her more mad! She never apologized, the teacher apologized for her! They overcharged me $30.00, she was trying for $40 but the teacher told her no, that was incorrect. I won't be going back. read more

There is nothing about "being nice or else" but instead unpleasant people which includes the staff. The staff here would rather gossip than teach. I've been here twice - once for a haircut and another time for a hairstyle for a wedding. Both experiences were pretty good. It was nice to see the instructor peoriodically checking up on the stylists (I had level 2 students both times). My only complaint would be during the hair drying portion of the haircut visit. I kept getting burned so much at the back of my head that I flinched every single time she got close with the dryer. Other than that, I would come again. Seriously...Lauren is so good. I bought a Groupon for microdermabrasion with Lauren - one of the best facials I've had. I mentioned that my hair stylist was no longer working and she said she also did hair. For $60.00 less than I was paying at my former salon, I received full head of highlights, base color and the perfect cut. Everyone was friendly at the school - it's clean but hey, it's not a cushy salon and for what I paid for the amazing work, I don't really care. Give Lauren a try. She's great. read more

I came in for a basic facial. Lindsey was amazing! I've never gotten a facial before and that being said I was really impressed with the service. She was very professional and listen to my concerns with my skin and used amazing dermalogica products. I was also given a skin care regime which was nice. I am going to post another review and this time talk about the great facial I received yesterday with Elise. She will not be there after July, but I highly recommend going to see her before she leaves. It was nice to have her do her magic, and she had an artists touch. I purchased a Groupon for "The Works" facial, and it was my first time here. I set my expectations relatively low, knowing it's a school and these are students training for their professional careers. I ended up REALLY impressed. The service provided by the estheticians was phenomenal; Mariah who actually performed my facial and one of her fellow students helped me upgrade to treat my acne (only $5!), and it was honestly one of the best facials I've ever had (surpassed my last-best facial experience at Mario Tricoci in Oak Brook). I was super relaxed, loved my skin after I left my appointment, and it was a peaceful setting. I was also impressed with how many services they offer. I ended up getting a consultation on extension installation and extension coloring, and set up an appointment for that as well. My only complaint is that the front desk service was not friendly - one middle-aged woman either had RBF (resting b*tch face) or was just not a very kind person, and seemed annoyed both times I asked a question. But I won't let that deter me from the great students and services here! Highly recommend. read more

One of the teachers Stephan is the biggest jerk ever! I come to schools vs. regular salons becouse the students actually listen to the client and really try their hardest to please the client. I stopped the students from over blow drying my hair and they called Stephan over and he started speaking to me in a very condescending tone. He said I need to go to a regular salon. And then started making faces at me when I requested to just touch up the parts that are actually gray only. He then commented on the price being the same. It's not the price that makes me come here. I can go to a real salon for just $10 more. I will come once more for a deep conditioning treatment that I already paid for and then I will not come back here ever again. Gio gave me the best haircut I've had in 15 years. I'd been going to salons but was getting sick of them - nobody seemed to try hard or care much about customer service anymore. So my wife suggested I try this place. I had a GREAT experience getting a haircut and beard-trim! Gio was very professional and courteous. He gave suggestions (which turned out to be 100% spot on) and was extremely thorough. He took advice from others there, too, and was super humble. I feel like the skin department of the school doesn't have much of a name for itself because we are one of the only paul mitchell schools in illinois that offers esthetics & I want to change that. The teachers here for skin are amazing & they teach us spa worthy techniques! If you come in I promise you won't be dissapointed. PERSPECTIVE STUDENTS LOOKING FOR SCHOOL PLEASE READ. If only giving zero stars is an option I would definitely do so. I chose this school to attend for the 500hour barbering program. I have never been so disappointed or regretful for a choice in my life. I attended the Chicago PM for cosmetology and that being the best decision of my life I figured this school would live up to those expectations. Not even close. Mind you the Chicago location doesn't offer a barbering program. Not only do they not have a full time teacher for the full time program, you rarely get men to come in to work on. The location is awful, no one can ever find it. When you bring up your issues to the school they give you any excuse but all they care about is getting your tuition money, not the students experience or education. Take it from me, take your money elsewhere for your education. Waste of time, waste of money. And believe me I have not been the only student to complain. Also I did not finish the program, I withdrew and am now being forced to pay double the time of what I was there. DO NOT ATTEND. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews about this school. It just goes to show that sometimes no matter what you do to please people, they will never be happy. In addition to the cleanliness and high end appearance of the school, the products, service and professionalism surpassed my experiences at other professional salons. I used my groupon of a pretreatment, color, and cut and I had no problems with redemption. My student stylist was very attentive and cared about her work. She was supervised the entire time and her instructor also cared that the student knew how to give me the best finish to my style. I received an AMAZING color and trim... I literally almost cried! The student and her instructor did an awesome job with my natural hair. I will definitely be back and recommend that if you have never visited this hair school... you should not delay... just go! read more

I recently had the "The Works" facial. Very nice. Before that I had facial waxing done. Disaster! My skin was so raw that it took 2 weeks to heal! I went on vacation & was so embarrassed! Next I had a hair cut by Kela. She gave me The best one ever! Yes the person did the waxing before the facial. I thought that didn't seem right. I didn't say anything. I am a big fan of Trendsetters. Reading other comments made me want to signup just so I could write a review. I have been to Trendsetters 3 times. Once for a a facial, once for a manicure and once for a wash and style. Each time I have been very pleased with the service and blown away by the amazing prices. The students are pleasant and nice. When I call the front desk they try to answer my questions and are polite. You will find that many of the students have been styling hair or doing other things for a while way before they came to Trendsetters. So they are still students but still very experienced. Even with my hair...I am an African American woman with relaxed thick long hair. I called the front desk and asked if they had anyone to handle my hair type. They did and she did a wonderful job. For someone on a strict budget. It's a great way to get quality salon services and even spa-like services while saving some money. I don't have any real complaints about this place. If I can give this place negative stars i would , my daughters hair it was very healthy I took her to have it done , she wanted it done hombre , and cut it layered , then came a girl named Luna she was recommended by a teacher his name was Stephan he said that Luna was the queen of hombre oh my god if she was the queen of hombre I don't know would mess up my hair my daughters hair was so messed up I had to pay them $110 then take her to a professional to pay another $170 to have it fixed both cut and have it done colored hombre they literally had to take more than half of hair hair off because it was burned it was Friday it was cut the wrong way it was horrible I would never recommend this place to anyone whatsoever not even to my enemies this place is among when you call then they tell you a color will be $34 and a haircut will be eight only when you go there they just like get you to sign this waiver which when I signed it Luna had told me this because my daughter was only 13 years old I swear to god that's what she told me but then to find out it was a waiver that if she messes up my daughters hair they are not responsible I did ask for a refund but they would not honor it I asked for the refund so I can have it fixed somewhere else by a professional I mean a real professional even the teacher did not even look at my my daughters hair that many times because Aluna every time the teacher came near her and he told her what to do she would give them this really bad attitude and he would just like go away when I asked to have my daughters hair fixed by them or buy a teacher or professional that who knows what they're doing they told me I have to pay more money these are scammers I would never go there if you have to go there for any reason be aware because he's going to have to pay as much money as you would pay to any salon who already graduated and not students read more

Let me preface this review by stating I have come to this Paul Mitchell for the past 3-4 years. I noticed that a majority of the insturctors are no longer there and that a new crew has started. I checked in exactly at 11 a.m. for my appointment. Waited 40 minutes and went up to counter to ask how much longer and the front desk went up to ask how much longer. She went back and one of the instructor's came up to me to tell me she placed my ticket down and forgot about me. Waited another 5 minutes and my student came up and told me that she was sorry. I was pretty frustrated at this point, but did not want to let on because after all I was going to let these people put scissors and dye to my hair. So we went on with the service. I will say that the student did a great job on my dew. But when i was checking out, I was using my Groupon, so there should not have been any charge. The front desk person informed me that there woudl be a $10 charge for extra product? I of corse questioned this charge and asked her if it was right that I was going to be charged for extra product since I waited 40 minutes and probably woudl have waited longer unless I came up to the front desk? She said, "yeah...I have to charge you." This place is the worst! Absolutely no customer service nor service recovery is taught here. I am highly doubtful I will go back. The quality of this place has tremendously gone down and they are now nickle and diming loyal customers! read more

First let me start off by saying that I have been going to the school for a little over a year now. I visited the school for haircuts and to get my hair dyed, my visits have always been pleasant ones until a few months ago my usual girl graduated and I had to find a new person to do my hair. For one I have noticed that in the last several months the quality of the school has gone down. While on one of my many monthly visits I learned that the owners of the school are in no way associated with Paul Mitchell they just use the name. The girls have told me that they don't learn anything until they are on the floor because the teachers are too lazy to do anything. They charge extra for everything and are getting greedy. They even charge the students for wearing specific clothes that are not black and for not having a name tag. The school is now charging the same price as a salon and that's all thanks to the teachers on the floor now. They are the ones that decide on the price for the service and try to raise it up by adding extra charges. Some of the students aren't as good as other but of course they are learning and have the help of the teachers or so you would think. I recently had to get my hair bleached twice because the bleach did not stay on long enough to lift. The student specifically asked the teacher if it was okay to go rinse my hair since she didn't want the bleach on my head to start burning. The student "washed" (she left toner and bleach on my hair and had to ask for help on how to get shampoo out of my hair) and put toner in my hair then I saw the horrible problem my hair was orange not blonde. I was upset but the teacher offered to redo my hair again and I accepted because no way I was walking out with that color. During this the teacher left the bleach on way too long it burned my scalp and now I have scabs all over and my hair is dry and is fried. The student was so tired of me that she didn't dry my hair completely and let me walked out like that. The bad part was that I was there from 9:40am till 5pm when they close. None of them apologized and they of course made me pay full price for the service. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! read more

I made an appt the day before with hopes of seeing a specific student to get a wash and blow-dry. However, the day I arrived I waited about 15 minutes and then he comes up to the front, chit chats a little bit, looks at me and leaves. Then I learn that he has 'testing' and he won't be available. The woman at the front desk then asks if I wanted to see someone else. At that point I am like NO. I should have been notified prior to coming that he wouldn't be available. To top it off, She did not apologize but proceeds to encourage me to book for Saturday. Now mind you the previous day I called, I was told Saturday they were having an event and the last appt would be taken at 11 am. So the receptionist I guess didn't think I was aware of it and they are telling me that I could book anytime up until 2pm which is another discrepancy with scheduling.Meanwhile everyone at the front desk looks like it's my fault I showed up for my appointment? Now I know why. This place is highly unprofessional. Please encourage students to at least acknowledge prospective clientele and also if the school makes a mistake please acknowledge the mistake. Try to be amicable. My time is not to be wasted but judging from the reviews, it worked out for the better. read more

Do not waste your money or time going there! They charged me $40.00 to curl my hair and it took them almost 3 hours! Worst of all, my hair looked terrible. I understand they are a school but the students are not prepared to be in "level 2" which is the side where they supposedly know more. Their instructor Stefan is extremely rude and cocky. There was also a bridal party there that I felt horrible for. They messed up everyone's hair and make up. Long story short, go somewhere else.
