I had more than a 5 star experience at Cameo! I came in super frustrated and upset because I had gone to previous salon that made my hair turn a yellow orange. It was atrocious! The teacher Ms Stacy assessed my hair and made sure I was attended to. The student who worked on my hair was so patient, nice and educated. They did a massive color correction on my hair but I would like to say they did a miracle! My hair looked amazing when they were done with it. I could not be more thankful!!! I can't wait to go back there again and try their other services. read more

They really know color and highlights at Cameo, although that shouldn't come as a surprise to their customers since some of their supervisors came from Mario Tricoci. That's one of the reasons why I always go back here to get my hair colored. Honestly other colorists from other parts of town could learn a thing or two about how to do it correctly from Cameo the first time around and work in an efficient manner. About the only thing I don't like that others have mentioned are the extremely long wait times which is mostly because of the ineffective way they manage their students schedules and the subsequent appointments, some show up, some don't, depending on the day, especially on the busiest day of the week Saturday. I recently complained to the new manager and felt like she listened to my concerns and when I came back the next time I could see a slight improvement. While I'm at it, another source of irritation for me is the attitude of some of their longstanding supervisors. There's no reason to be rude and angry to customers just because your personal life is on the skids, compounded by the fact you have an immature attitude. I find this is a real turn-off. Have been getting my hair done here for about 10 years and not once upset or disappointed. Why...because of the teachers. These teachers watch over every student and client. They guide and instruct their students with a loving hand. I was a teacher for many years so I can appreciate the education the Cameo students receive. Not all schools are created equal. The reasons why I go to Cameo is that you don't need an appointment, they use the best products on the market, and they will make sure you like your service. And a big Plus is the reasonable prices. I know this is a school, and the time to get waited on and have things done is going to be long, but, they made my morning a nightmare. I called a week before hand and was told that they do not take appointments, that it is first come first serve. I showed up when they opened at 9 am to have my hair just styled, some curls, noting over the top, simple. I waited in line just to be checked in for about an hour. The process is slow, and they focus on those who are getting their hair colored first. I was kind of irritated when I heard another client telling other that if you call on a Thursday or Friday, they will book you an appointment ahead of time to be taken care of so you can just show up and get started. Pretty irritating since I called a week before hand and was told they do not take appointments. When I was finally checked in at 9:52, I was told my wait would be 45 minutes to an hour. Fair, there was about 8 people ahead of me, but a reasonable amount of students. I patiently waited, was confident because the instructors are visible and monitor the students and are ready to answer questions when needed. I was getting annoyed when people who were in line after me during check in were being taken care of before I was. I waited until 11:15, over an hour from when I was told it would be 45 to an hour. I went to the front desk and just asked for a refund. They checked my spot in line and tried to get me to stay, saying it would only be another 30-45 minutes. I had a wedding to be at by 2, meaning I would have to be ready to leave the area at 1, there was no way that would work. I had to leave and rush to the store and buy some styling products, because I wasn't prepared to do my own hair since I had planned on having it done here. It made the day chaotic and stressful. I shouldn't have gone and just attempted to do something on my own at home from the start. Now, I am left having to monitor my bank account to make sure the money gets credited back to me, since they require you to pay before you are even given the service you are paying for. Other beauty schools allow appointments to be made for ALL clients wishing to use them for their hair and beauty needs, so why can't cameo? It would be more organized and not leave people guessing if they're going to be taken care of or not. Everyone was friendly and polite, it just was poorly organized and executed. You cannot take reservations for some clients, and then expect others to wait two hours, after an hour of waiting in line to get checked in, just for a simple style. Also, I've used others cosmetology schools before for hair services, and always had a positive experience. I'm new to the area and Cameo was close, so I figured it was worth a shot, and I don't think I'll try my luck there again. Last remark, it would have been $40 for a style by a student, if I would have known the experience was going to be so negative, I could have made an appointment with an experienced stylist at Hair Cuttery for $50. So, Cameo wasn't really going to save me much money on the service either. Sadly, they were booked and couldn't help save me in my last minute attempt to get a stylist to help once I gave up at Cameo. read more

Seem to not give a hoot about anything but. Looking in the mirror. I know its a school but some students are wasting their time and money taking up cosmetology! I know its a beauty school but do not go here to get your nails done. I figure its a cheap price and I know the quality may be okay. But the girl who gave me a manicure talked way too much. And as she was talking about her life she would stop working on my nails. She was not professional about the conversation she was having with me. Pro: hair up dos are good here. Girls are friendly. This academy rocks! I was in Chicago on business last weekend and needed a fresh haircut before my meeting. I dropped in to Cameo and they took me in without a reservation. Got one of the best haircuts in my life. I can't believe these are just beauty students cutting hair, this place rivals my barber shop that I've been going to for years, and at a fraction of the cost. I've been looking into this school for about 3yrs now. I've finally decided to enroll, which is one of the best decisions I have ever made. They have a teacher here by the name of Ms.Mikko who is exceptional. She's very detailed from theory to practical. I've only been attending here for 2weeks yet Ms.Mikko has taught me so much from a cut to 3D nail art. I'm telling you her teaching method is remarkable! I hope as I continue on that I encounter more teachers like her. She gives me a drive that makes me look forward into coming to class each and everyday!! read more

Ive been there for hair color, hair cut, updo, a manicure and facial. The facial was so relaxing and very inexpensive. The school had been expanded in recent years so it is more roomy. Teachers are there to ensure the students are doing things properly. I liked it the first few times so I have referred others there who also enjoyed and go back for services. They can do updos for special events, hair color, hair cut, hair style. I have brought my daughters there for manicures and they enjoyed it. The students are so good with younger children. I would recommend if you want to go somewhere you feel welcome that does a great job and that doesn't break the bank. read more

Beware.... went in for a trim, a trim. I said an inch and a half. My hair was at the small of my back. Now its at my shoulders. Dude literally cuts 6 inches off. How do you get 6 inches from 1.5???? Really dude. Learn your measurements and if you don't know what you're doing, then say it. How embarrassing too to be sitting there in tears looking at your hair on the floor. Never again. I recently had to stand up in a wedding and needed makeup last minute. In the past when Ive gone there the workers acted condesending about me having to be in a hurry but Missue actually took the time to listen to my distress and let me pay ahead of time and come back (since it's a first come first serve basis) Fran the woman who did my makeup did a phenomenal job and even gave me advice on what to say in my wedding speech! She was down to earth and not rude as some of the other hair stylists have been in the past I'm glad I gave cameo another chance. I will definitely come back in the future. read more

I been attending Cameo Beautiful Academy for over 10 years. The teachers at the school is exceptional. The students are well trained. They are polite and professional. I have had most treatments and was satisfied with all of them. The school does most services you ask for. I love their rinse I don't have to come back for approximately 6 weeks for a touch up. You would love this school. I always recommend Cameo to family and friends. If you are in the area stop by because they give quick service. I just love them!!!! read more

I have lived in this area the majority of my life and have seen this school and it's purple awning for years and years. I never knew I could go there for salon services until a friend tipped me that she goes there for a conditioning scalp massage every couple of weeks. I check out the website and find they offer a wide variety of services and the prices are beyond belief. Yesterday I determined that my roots needed a touch-up, which I normally handle myself (highlights with my stylist). I arrived and immediately noticed the friendly atmosphere. Smiling students. Smiling clients. At reception, I was warmly greeted and assured they would handle my services (I added a manicure). Short wait and I was meeting my student stylist who had me sit at her station and conferred with the instructor about the color and technique. The facility is clean, clean, clean. I'm not kidding when I tell you they treated me like a valued customer. It was almost surreal. I mentioned the customer service aspect to my stylist and she agreed, saying that this is a big focus at the school. They want every client to feel comfortable and satisfied. While my color was developing she took me to the manicure area. Very nice, basic manicure (no cutting) with a terrific hand/lower arm massage. They do a double shampoo - thank you, thank you, thank you. Who doesn't love to have their scalp massaged? Followed with a nice blowout. Both of the instructors and my stylist thanked me for coming in and hoped they would see me again. All that for $22.00. I did tip as well. Because it is an educational facility, the students have their work checked before, during and after the services. Plan on giving yourself plenty of time, they are not rushing to get you out the door. I am told Saturdays are very busy. I was there on a Thursday evening and it was fairly peaceful. I can see this becoming a regular destination. Facial, sure. Conditioning scalp massage, give it. No more doing my touch-up at home, indeed. read more

My daughter and I both got our hair done at Cameo. I just got a cut and she got cut & highlights. For anyone who does not know, it is a beauty school, so the people who work on your hair are students, but they are closely supervised by the teachers. They call an instructor over to get approval of their work each step of the way. It was a great experience! All of the staff was friendly. The students were all fun & knowledgeable. And it is very affordable! We will be back! If you are nervous about the experience of having a student cut your hair, you can ask for a "senior" who is more experienced. I took my sister here because she wanted her hair trimmed and colored. The girls were absolutely rude to her and talked to her like she didn't matter. After she came home she had to cut her own hair to fix the hack job they did. I could have given a child scissors and they could have done a better hair cut. I had a facial there today and OMG. So reasonably priced, and just as good as the places that cost 10X as much. The room was quiet, tranquil, and that lovely spa background music, like a rainforest. Please please please DO NOT go there. I went in for a haircut and they totally messed it up. The instructor checked it several times and it still came out completely uneven. I understand these are students but the instructors should know better. I complained and all they could tell me is you "know they are students". They are way overpriced for school. $27.50 for a haircut and blowdry. Next time I would pay $40 at New day spa and get it done right. I wouldn't get my pet groomed there! read more

I've been going to Cameo for years! My mom use to take my sister and I for hair trims when we were younger and I kept going to get my hair cut up until I graduated high school and ditch my long hair for a pixie cut. I also went here for both proms and they did an amazing job and everyone loved my hair! They do an amazing job at cutting medium to long hair but they are just okay at pixie cuts so I choose to go elsewhere. Yet I do go here to get my hair bleached as they do an amazing job and I will never bleach my own hair! read more

Been bring my daughter here on and off for a couple of years. The price changes every time we come for a wash and blow dry. Sometime we get charged for having short hair, then long hair. Today it was a charge for long hair. My daughter has a short natural and has always had a short natural that does not pass her shoulders. I have four girls from the age 20-16 years old and we have been going to Cameo Beauty Academy for the past 10 years. They are affordable and very professional. I can not say "Thank You " enough for all of the great cuts, colors, up dos, makeup you have provided for me and my family. They school year isn't over yet and we still have a few more dances and tons of proms to go in this house, and I will not go anywhere else. They told us it was a 15 minute wait. More than an hour later they said it was at least another 30 minutes. The manager said that they have no control over the students. They come and go as tthey please, often walking out in the middle of their scheduled shift. We thought it would be fun to go for facials but It was not worth the wait. This place went downhill. Cameo about 5 years ago used to be fantastic! The teachers talk to you like you are stupid and are very ignorant, especially Gina. The students are just as bad. All they do is talk to each other and not their clients. They walk around talking about how they don't want to be there. Their appearance is terrible which wouldn't really matter to me, but I know it is or at least was a requirement to look presentable when coming to school and be a professional in training. The only teacher I seemed to have luck with is Fran. The salon is very outdated, looks the same for about 10 years now. The price to go here and get crappy service, you can go somewhere else for 20 bucks more and get what you want, in less time, and by a working courteous professional. read more

I recently got my haircut there. the PEOPLE are SUPER rude. the teachers dont even check the work and when they do, they are rough (pulling your hair out). I think its Way OVER price 21 dollars and my hair isnt long its alittle past my shoudler. The students dont pay attention cutting your hair. they too busy talking to other student, txting, or complaining that they want to go home. why would i want to hear that? The student talk shit about people that come in. The chairs where they wash ur hair are soooooo uncomfortable, its kills my back sitting there... Im NEVER going there again!!! ITS A nightmare...
