Highly recommend Chicago Porch Authority! We got several quotes and they were significantly less than the rest. We were able to upgrade to the higher end Trex and still pay less than what we would have paid with other companies using a lower tier Trex product. I was almost tempted to go with a more polished company with lots of samples and flyers on hand, but I'm so glad we didn't. Frank was incredibly easy to work with - very timely, communicative, friendly, helpful, and honest. He saved us money where he could and made sure we got exactly what we were looking for. Peter (foreman) and team were very professional, speedy, tidy, and meticulous. We uncovered a rotted support beam and a roofing issue during the deck rebuild, and Frank took care of all that as well with his roofer, and took care of the additional Trex materials that were needed after we uncovered the issues and added to the project. The extra unexpected work only took about an extra week or two to resolve. The team even poured some cement for us to fill in cracked stairs while they were pouring cement to secure the deck posts. All paperwork was handled professionally through their admin contact via email, and Frank was always accessible by phone or text if we had questions. Chicago Porch Authority did an excellent job resurfacing the deck on our apartment in Logan Square. They were very quick and efficient, and the cost was very reasonable. The only minor caveat would be that they can be a little slow to respond to messages/emails. But the quality of work is excellent. read more

First, I am grateful that they would work take on my project which is in Oak Park and work outside the borders of Chicago. This review is long over due. Frank put down a new composite deck and pergola for me last summer and I could not be happier with the results. He might be a bit scatter brained on the phone but don't let that deter you - he is a busy guy! Frank is meticulous when it comes to his work and provides great service at a fair price. I ended up not liking the height of the fence surrounding my A/C units, and he promptly came back out and fixed it to my liking no questions asked. Roof decks can be tricky to do correctly but these guys take the time to do it right which is huge in my book. He personally spent a lot of time with me going over every detail and helping me design a custom pergola. He checked in to make sure I was satisfied every step of the way. So, a few residents in my condo building were experiencing leaking ceilings coming from the roof. We called Chicago Porch Authority to come inspect the rooftop decks that we thought might be contributing to the leaking roof. We worked with Lauren on scheduling and both she and Frank came out at a time convenient for us. While on the roof, Frank provided a wealth of information and suggestions for us, one of which was adding padding to the existing decks as a cost effective measure to help extend the life of our roof by relieving the pressure coming from the decks. We were quoted a very fair price the next day and scheduled the work for a week later. Work was completed as scheduled and everyone was happy. Frank gave us peace of mind that our roof wasn't going to collapse under the weight of the decks and Lauren was pleasant and timely in all communications. Just found out while getting some work done on our deck that it was not built to code by Frank Shubert & it was starting to sink on one end They built our deck many years ago when he owned Archadeck. I have left him 1 phone message and sent him 2 email's to see if he would rectify our situation. He has not answered any of my messages.. Frank was happy to schedule time to come out to assess our deck (multiple times) but never showed. I called back 2X to ask if he was still planning to come out and each time he needed to re-gather my information (name, phone number, address, etc.). The last time I called back, I was very polite and understanding that it was Summer time and they were busy. We scheduled a 2nd time for him to come out. However, after he (thought) he hung up the call, he called me a F**ing idiot and a few other expletives to his colleague and said that he had no intent of coming out to look at our deck because no other contractors wanted to look at it. This isn't true.. we were seeking a 2nd opinion on a complicated deck structural issue. Frank repeatedly wasted our time by consistently losing our information and not showing up to several appointments. He also said some offensive things without realizing he hadn't hung up. He spent a ton of time with us trying to nail down exactly what we wanted, got the job done right, and included a few extra things to make the deck look even better (fan covers, including some long benches). We are thrilled with how everything turned out, and the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the staining, which didn't look great initially and after 1 year, looks pretty splotchy, and also I think this was one of the first times they installed turf and I'm not thrilled that you can see the seams where the pieces of turf meet. Yes, Frank is scatter brained, but he will go above expectations to ensure you're happy with everything and his kindness and funny personality will make up for it, as well as his low prices. read more

Our Porch was falling apart, the columns were split and rotting, the roof was sagging, the railings were knee high and unsafe. We had it down to 3 porch co's .... we chose Frank. He was easy to talk too. The quote was reasonable and the plan was good. We began on 7/31 - Frank chose the composite decking and color. It was the perfect color, we loved it. His father and son team began work. They were great. There is not one edge of cut composite showing...EVERY edge is mitered. They repaired the masonry, and leveled the roof back to the original position. We were thrilled. Unfortunately, there was an error ordering the capitals, which halted the process for 6 weeks. No railings, and the roof was held up with 2x4's. We were not thrilled. 6 weeks later, the guys come back... capitals and columns in place. Looks great. Time for railings. We were familiar with the railing process. We new what we wanted ... it took a couple of neighborhood walks talking railings, but James, Franks railing guy got it. The Railings were beautiful. They were more than we had hoped for. Measuring, building, dry fitting, powder coating, installing - took another 5 weeks. In the end, our porch is stunning, we are confident it is built right, and at a reasonable cost. All the passers by say it was worth the wait! read more
