Requested an estimate from City Porches. Got a message saying that they couldn't make the agreed upon time because of child care issues. Got it. No problem. I had to make other arrangements but I get that these things happen, especially when it comes to child care. I had to be at work the next day, but we rescheduled. I figured I could run back and meet. I was contacted in the AM saying that her schedule had changed, so could we meet in 15 minutes? Couldn't do it so let's meet at the appointed time. "Ok no problem." I ran home from work to meet but no show. I reached out. No response. Ghosted. This company asks for 70% of the cost due "2 days prior to start day." Good luck with that. They can't get to appointments, communicate, or follow up. I get that things happen, but these kinds of companies will trumpet their communication, etc. Buyer beware. So disappointing. read more

From the very beginning, Zoe made the process seamless. David came by for the estimate, was so thorough, and made recommendations for our fence that made the space even better. Josh and his partner (sorry, I didn't catch his name), were the BEST! Not only is their work beautiful, they are so professional and friendly. They arrived on time each day and they were careful to make sure they left our space clean, as well as the common areas of our building. Please let David know he's got an incredible team! City Porches wasted my time. After meeting with an estimator, I waited five days before writing to ask if I would be receiving an estimate for my porch replacement. Two days later, I got a response that they were going through an update to their systems and hoped to have an estimate for me the next day. Four days later, I let them know they didn't need to provide an estimate. I have no interest in working with a company that cannot be bothered to even provide updates when they are delayed beyond what anyone should expect. It is a huge red flag. I can't imagine what it would be like if I'd actually given them any money. My advice to this company is to not send out people for estimates when you can't provide them on a reasonable time frame or communicate that there will be delays. I'm just grateful that I could see this company was unreliable before I gave them any money. read more

Held hostage. When in need for porch repair/maintenance, there are few companies to serve. This one is abominable. Utter lack of communication. Unable to contact a human being, other than through texting. Weeks after consultation, the work finally "gets done" over a three-day period, only to have sawdust strewn everywhere and the old boards shoved under our stairs. Nails and tacks everywhere. No clean-up crew. I had to clean as much of the nails, etc. myself the next day. We all have dogs that use the back access for their needs, and this is unsafe and unacceptable. Texted Zoe (management) about this and they did send a clean-up the next day within an hour. read more

We worked with City Porches for our new back deck. Zoe is responsive and pleasant, so is David. Crew is incredibly respectful, quiet, and clean. They came in at a good price, were willing to work with us to look at different options, and we love the new deck. We got several quotes and overall Zoe's laid back and approachable attitude sealed the deal. We have used Zoe and her crew for a few different projects in our 1893 Wicker Park property, including rebuilding our front steps in a Landmark District. They did a great job of coming up with creative and workable solutions to a few problems, including making our porch railings ADA height while still working with our existing vintage metal work. Please do not use this company. It is huge red flag. They have done my back porch of my 3 unit building on the southside of Chicago. I have failed inspection. I have called several times, but they no longer answer my call. I can't get the architect plans for the porch so that I can get another contractor to do the work properly. This has been my worse experience with a contractor. My lawyer will be in touch because I have literally had to tear down the porch they build to have it rebuilt properly. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! City Porches recently replaced our two-level deck/balcony. They took care of the whole permitting process, gave sound advice on upgrades that would make the structure safer and more durable, and gave us a competitive rate. They delivered beyond the minimum we specified the contract, making sure little details like improving the flashing under the doors and putting in extra guard rails beside a basement stairwell were taken care of. They were courteous and meticulous. The city inspector who checked the completed deck said their work was above the usual standard. read more

City Porches is the BEST porch compliance company in the city, I can't recommend them more highly!! I recently purchased a 2 flat with city violations on the porch. I was very nervous about fixing the violation as I've never gone through this before. Because I had limited funds I was hoping to repair the porch and not have to build a new one. I got 6 estimates for my porch and FIVE companies told me I had to completely rebuild the porch because the "codes changed" and that was the only way to pass the inspection. Rich at City Porches was the ONLY one who was HONEST and offered to repair the porch at less than half the price the other companies wanted to charge to rebuild it. They were excellent, walked me through the whole process, did a great job and the porch had no issues passing inspection! So glad I didn't let those other companies rip me off. I was really disappointed in communication with City Porches! I had an estimate set up for some work and then was ghosted for over two weeks while trying to discuss the estimate. I had multiple calls, emails, and texts out to the project manager, and eventually got a text saying she was "bad with her phone." I understand that contractors are busy, but I found this unacceptable. City Porches just finished rebuilding five three-story porches at our 21-unit building -- a big project. I can't say enough good things about them. Zoe and David, the project manager and foreman, were unfailingly accommodating, communicative, and careful. The demo process could have been a nightmarish mess but was remarkably painless and un-chaotic. If we wanted something changed, they changed it. If we wanted something added, they added it. If we had a problem with something (there were very few for a job this big) they just fixed it. No excuses, no arguments. All of the workers were pleasant to have around, worked very hard, and did a great job. The end result is five really handsome, sturdy, high-quality porches. I had a very dangerously damaged set of front door steps/porch. I googled porch repair/steps and found City porches. I had called a few other places and left messages, emailed etc. When I emailed City Porches I received a response immediately. Zoe, one of the owners called me immediately, asked me specific questions and literally showed up at my home with-in hours. She sent me an estimate for the repairs and also guaranteed that if I found something lower, they would match it. That same weekend to very polite, masked and professional men showed up, on-time assessed and explained what they would be doing. It was obvious immediately how much pride they took in their work! I could not be more pleased with the finished product! The stairs look better than I ever imagined they would! The price was extremely fair.
