I chatted with the owner last time i was there u and he said he made his own gravy and it was very tasty. Whatever they serve now is as tasteless as Italian beef can be and the Gravy was not any more flavorful than slightly salty brown water. The wife got a bacon wrapped fried hot dog that was so fried it was like a bacon wrapped slim jim and served on a rock hard bun! Could not believe they would actually give us such a dog but they did! It was a to go Order so if it had been closer to us we would have taken it back. The fries were decent. Funny thing is that it was empty at 5 PM and took a good while to make the food this badly! Its about the same distance to Chicagoland as it is to the Famous Chicago Hot Dog place in Tempe which is where we will go in the future. So disappointed.... Been coming here for a few years now and it used to be pretty good.... But has gradually gone down hill and today was the absolute worst... waited for over 20 minutes for my to-go order(hot dog,tamale,pizza puff) while others that came in after me got their food before me... they didn't get the order right.... One of the workers says they dropped our food, without any kind of apology for our extraordinarily long wait, setting us back even longer. Tried a new place today. I've driven by this place so many times and decided I would give it a try. BEST decision I made today. Ordered an itialian beef which was only about 1/2 a sandwich, also 2 Chicago style hotdogs which they only had onion and relish plus they were so cold and soggy they were inedible. The Italian Beef Sandwich was dry and not really dipped as ordered, and the meat was flavorless. The cashier was rude and didn't listen. On a positive, the Ditka Hot Polish Sausage was very good. Also, the person making the food was respectful and responsive, it was just the cashier that didn't seem to care about customer service. We're still getting use to our new neighborhood eateries here in Mesa since moving here a month ago. My boyfriend and I were looking for a good hot dog and just stumbled across Chicagoland Hot Dogs so we stopped in and ordered two Chicago Dog combo's. They come with a very good hot dog with fresh toppings, hot french fries and a drink. Since they were awesome with practicing social distancing due to the Covid-19 mess seating inside was limited but they have cute Chicago decor going on. I wanted to update my review and say thank you to the 3 ladies who worked on saturday 3/19. We showed up at about 12:50 for lunch , the tables were full of patrons waiting for food, there were 4-5 people in line in front of us plus they were getting door dash orders and a few other delivery orders. Poor ladies had to put up a sign "short staffed -No orders for 30 minutes" Felt so bad they were slammed so bad but guess what? every order was perfect ! Not one person complained , other patrons kept giving encouragement to the ladies that they were doing a great job . I gave extra tips in the jar and purchased extra items to take home. This is a pretty well run machine . Even through all the adversity the ladies all kept a smile on their faces and all the food was correct . That's doing a great job under the stress of hungry /hangry people . I highly recommend calling in your order as it did seem those orders went out first. Next time we are in town this will be our #1 choice for all my Chicago favorites read more

Food was good. We tried a bit of everything. Sliders. Chili cheese fries. Chicago dog. Onion rings. Sliders were good. Chili cheese fries are hard to make right. It's all about fries being thick and crispy enough so they don't get super soggy under the melted cheese and chili. And these were perfect! Chili has good flavor too. Onion rings were my style. Not a fan of the beer battered and the gal insisted they were homestyle and they were delish. Chicago dog was good. Had that snap you want in a well cooked hotdog. Only thing I would say is make sure you're ready to order when you go to the counter. They are quick when taking your order. :) read more

As I said before, I want this place to make it, but like last time the person (a lady this time) behind the counter is by herself (running the register, cooking, etc) and there a sign on the door that they be closing at 3:00 due to "staff shortages". Took some time just to give my order and then a long time to get it. They did have brats this time, and it was okay. No napkins in the dinning area, dirty tables, same drab decor that's been in place for years The one young person didn't look happy, and I guess I don't blame her since she's probably overwhelmed. Half way through my visit another person showed up, but the first one disappeared and he was left alone. Anyway, at noon there were very few customers and I'm thinking the place is on its last leg. I ordered a chili dog, a small order of mozzarella sticks and a chicken salad. The chicken salad was not good at all. The chicken they used, took me back to a restaurant I used to work at where they used this type of chicken that was packed in bags from vendors. The smell was very processed as was the taste. It was highly processed shredded chicken mixed with some mayo, shredded lettuce, sliced tomato and sliced onion. Nothing else. Not seasoned by any means and definitely a waste of $7. I just couldn't continue eating it. The hot dog was good, the sausage itself was the best part of everything. Something was off with the taste, but it was still OK. I ended up getting 4 sliders, 2 dogs and fries for about $12, which is a good deal even if the food was just average. Well, it wasn't average... It was amazing. Came to Chicagoland for a hot dog. I got a bratwurst and chili & cheese fries, Chicago dog and regular fries, and fried zucchini. All were good but the Chicago dog and fried zucchini stood out. The bun in the Chicago dog was soft to the touch and fulfilling! The fried zucchini was a delightful pairing. I had taken a bite of the Chicago dog from my boyfriends basket and ordered one to go because it was SO good. The service was average for myself, but I heard one of the employees talking to a couple that were customers about baseball and making small talk. This is a Chicago stop. Boss picked this for today's lunch outing, and I felt like I had either been here before, or they are super similar to another sports-type themed dive. It's a small little gem, tucked in between other businesses, so it doesn't exactly stand out. But, the inside is full of everything Chicago & it's a cozy little experience. Expect a bit of a wait during lunch hour. There was 6 of us & by the time the last one of us got food, the rest had already finished. But, it really wasn't that long of a wait, nor does it take very long to eat a hot dog, lol, so I would call it reasonable. And I can appreciate the "old school" method of the manual cash register & literally writing orders down on a ticket... but that is also part of the reason they run a little on the slower side. A slight technology upgrade may be a good idea? The menu is FULL of options! Kid-friendly, and there are some salad options, too. I opted for the cheese dog & cheese fries (I'm a sucker for anything with that fake, nacho cheese!) and they do NOT skimp on the cheese! It was a messy meal, but super simple & good. Only, I wasn't very impressed with the small, basic hot dog. The bun was excellent, but entirely too big for the dog & pretty much overpowered it... but there was plenty of bread to soak up the generous amount of cheese. Next time I'll opt for an Italian sausage or something with a little more substance. I saw the Italian beef sandwich & jumbo dogs a couple of co-workers ordered and they look great- fully loaded! The fries aren't very good. They offer the big steak fries, and while they are cooked on the spot so they're entirely hot & fresh- there is no seasoning. The cheese totally helps, but they ultimately end up a soggy, bland mess. I think I'd ask for the cheese on the side, next time, or ask if they can throw some seasonings of some sort on there. Overall, the price is very reasonable for the quantity & quality! They didn't seem to offer meal options, though, that I could see. But their daily special was a meal deal, so definitely check out what the daily special is! A hot dog & fries basket for $5-6 isn't bad at all. And if it is busy, you may have an issue finding seating. The booths can comfortably fit 2, but more is a squeeze, and the establishment is really small, so our party of 6 took up half the place. It's a little on the crowded side, having to squeeze through the ordering line to get to the drink station or restrooms. But, we really enjoyed our lunch here and will most likely be back in the near future since it's so close to the office. This pass used to be so good, I would come at least once a week. Now that they have teenagers in there the food is not as good. Burgers are overcooked, fries are not cooked. When the owners where the cooks it was very good. The teenagers are just not a good addition at all. If they are not going to have the adults back, then they need to do some major training on how to cook and prepare the food and what is expectable to serve and what is not expectable. We tried the fried mozzarella sticks and zucchini. Both were frozen in the middle. They just don't know what they are doing. This was our favorite hot dog place for several years. Recently it has sold and we feel the same amount of attention to detail is still there, but the quality has changed. We felt a connection to Brian Christie, the previous owner, and maybe that's part of our current feeling as to quality. It's just getting used to new owners and not seeing familiar faces that may make the whole experience feel out of sync.
