My favorite drinks are from their taro series, especially because you can order a drink with either taro balls or taro paste. One cool, fruity and refreshing. The other warm, comforting and smooth. The interior is spacious, but has limited seating. It was empty when we came in the early afternoon on a Tuesday. I'll rave about CHICHA all day. Ever since their Bellevue location opened up in Washington, I've been more picky about tea (especially across boba spots and cafes) because no one does it quite like CHICHA. The tea is pricey and a smaller volume, but all their tea is rich and flavorful. I'm a fan of the Tukwila shop but dislike how far away it is because Tukwila is so south! The store is more akin to CHICHA across other states, in their own building rather than in a mall (even the old Bellevue location before they moved, felt lacking). Lovely service, the staff are extra friendly here. Osmanthus Oolong Tea w/ Boba - while I typically prefer milk in boba drinks, I'm starting to open up at CHICHA because their teas are wonderful and don't need the added creaminess from milk. Light, yet potent, aromatic, and smooth, this one is a favorite from my partner and I because it's refreshing and naturally sweetened with the osmanthus flowers. I had never been to this boba shop before and my friend told me the one in Bellevue is really popular, so I came in with high expectations. I noticed how clean the inside looked, which is hard to do when the majority of the place is white. When we got to the register we were given a sample of a seasonal flavor. We were pretty disappointed with our visit today. When we walked in, it was busy but not unusually crowded. Still, it took almost an hour (50+ minutes) to receive our drinks. What made it more frustrating was seeing all the people who arrived after us get their drinks WAY before we did. We ordered four drinks -- two of one kind and two of another. After about 45 minutes, we realized we were the only customers left from the group that arrived around the same time. To make things worse, three of our four drinks were made and left sitting out for at least 15 minutes while we waited on the last one. We eventually went up to ask, and were told they were still waiting on the final drink, but it still took another 20 minutes. By then, the ice had melted and the flavor was watered down. We were watching our order be skipped over and over and over again, and seeing the cup not be touched at all. I was so excited they decided to expand and open a location in Tukwila! So close to my house. So dangerous. I love how it's near Southcenter mall, so it has ample amount of parking. During the cold season, this location luckily doesn't have much of a line as in the summer. I really like how you can taste the tea in the drinks you order and the toppings also are delightful as well always. The only thing I dislike about this chain is that you cannot customize your drinks; except for toppings, level of sweetness and ice level, nothing else can be changed. Me & my friend got the Green Tea + Cream & Cassia Black Tea with Mousse, both with boba. They both were really great milk teas. I'm gonna be honest, I'm not typically a fan of the tapioca (boba) toppings but they tasted delicious. Nice & chewy. Upon entering the store, the friendly staff immediately greet you and may even offer a sample drink to try. My wife and I tried their peach green tea sample which we eventually ordered. We highly recommend it as it is very refreshing! Unfortunately some of their drinks are unable to adjust sugar and ice levels but don't be afraid to ask anyways. They are usually always busy in the afternoons and evenings so expect to wait a bit, but don't worry, they are making the drinks right in front of you. You can watch how hard they are quickly and efficiently working to complete your order! Regardless how long the wait is, there are seats and tables available to wait for or to spill tea while enjoying tea with friends. This is a Taiwanese establishment that focuses on the Lishan Oolong tea which comes from the mountains at 2000-2200 altitude. Low rating because of customer service. Drinks are very good, but a worker specifically was very frustrating and irritating today. The employee's name is Autumn. She was the person handing out customer's orders. Their Tukwila location only has 2 bathrooms. One bathroom was occupied (for a long time). The 2nd bathroom was available, but had no toilet paper. I had to use the bathroom urgently and told Autumn that there's only one bathroom available and it currently has no toilet paper. She responded saying she'd let someone know. I waited. She continued to keep organizing drinks and not letting someone know. I approached again saying it's urgent. She responded with "I understand, but it's just very busy right now" and proceeded to pretty much ignore me. It doesn't take a day to get one toilet paper....at most takes like 5 seconds......so I had to keep waiting and eventually asked someone else that looked more "available." Just as fresh and solid as the location in Bellevue, and a little more accessible for those who live in Seattle! I went here with family on a Wednesday noon after lunch to grab some drinks to satiate my after-meal fix. Going inside, you can immediately smell the strong aroma of tea. One big difference is that it's a lot more spacious and has more seating than its Bellevue counterpart, and there's even a section where you can taste some tea! Though I didn't go for that experience, i still had a great drink that speaks to how sleek and matte it feels inside. Since this is still a relatively new location, I waited in quite a long line where it took me about 20 minutes to finally be able to order, and ~10 more minutes to get my drink. My mom and I did get a sample of one of their drinks while we were close to the front of the line. I got their high mountain pouchong tea with mango, and while I didn't get any toppings to go with it, this drink doesn't really need that. It's already very sweet even when having it with "light" (or less) sugar and less ice. You can taste the tea almost immediately, and I usually see that as the tea being the center of attention in the cup and not the other added flavors (like the mango in this case). AT LAST, Chicha San Chen has arrived in Tukwila!!! I've loved this franchise ever since trying it in Vancouver. I haven't gone to the Bellevue location more than a couple times because the parking spaces are small and very limited, and Bellevue has a tiny location that gets so cramped with how busy they get. I am so pleased that Tukwila doesn't have any of these issues! It's located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking, and the store is HUGE! They did a great job with the interior to create a spacious and modern feel that makes you forget that you're in Tukwila. I've visited the Tukwila location twice on a weekday evening, and was lucky that there was no line both times. Their tea quality is amazing as expected. I especially love their taro balls, which are so satisfyingly chewy and bouncy. I did notice that they are not as bouncy if you are slowly sipping your drink (like over an hour), but it's not an issue if you are consuming it right away. Apparently, their "perfect" sugar level is 70% sweetness. I've opted for light sugar both times, but find this level to still be too sweet. For reference, I usually order my tea drinks with 25% sweetness. read more

There is a nice waiting area with tables and chairs, but there was no AC so it was pretty stuffy with everyone waiting inside. I rate the boba 4/5 - $1 as a topping, good texture and sweetness, but doesn't have much of a brown sugar taste. As for drinks, I prefer the fresh tea, my go-to for a hot day is Osmanthus Oolong with Honey. The seasonal mango version is good according to my friend. Lemon Tart is refreshing and not too tart. When the Bellevue location first opened, I saw posts about how long the lines were so I was discouraged to visit that location. Also, it's in Bellevue so we didn't really want to drive to Bellevue only to wait a while. Then we were travelling in Sydney last year and was able to check out one of the locations there. Today there's sample of the day is Black tea + cream again and I had it in my last visit so I decided to get my usual DongDing Oolong tea + boba. I don't know if my palates has changed, but their dongding oolong tea quality has gone down the hill. 10/10!!!!!!! I'm visiting from San Diego, CA which has a bunch of boba spots and I am 100% honest when I say this beats ALL the shops in SD. The tea tastes incredibly fresh and clean. The tapioca is soft and the service is impeccable. The staff is friendly and so fast! They don't make mistakes and even if they were slow, I'D STILL COME BACK EVERY TIME! Worth every penny. So far I've tried the Bubble Volcano and the Iced Green Tea + Passion Fruit, both with boba. I'm obsessed with their drinks. Down to the cup holders! You don't see anything like that in SD! Seattle-Area Boba Shop Review #74 I didn't expect to see a Chicha San Chen open down in Tukwila! As soon as I heard about it, I of course had to head down - too bad I missed the grand opening! This locations seems every bit as popular as the one in Bellevue. I visited on a Friday at 2PM, and there was a steady number of customers entering and lining up. The line took around 10 minutes, then the drink took about 20 minutes to arrive. Taro Bubble Milk Tea, Perfect Sweet, Light Ice ($8.25) - This looks like a new menu item, which is just the black tea + cream + boba + taro paste. The composition of the drink is stellar as ever, with the fragrance of a really nice black tea combined into a creamy and sweet drink. The sweetness is at a very good level at half, and the ice almost all melts away to cool the drink down and leave only a few chunks left. The taro paste isn't too sweet either, is mashed until nice and paste-like, but leaving some slightly larger and tender chunks. Great taro flavor. The boba served here I think is superior to other Chicha San Chen locations I've visited. As with the others, they are on the larger side, aren't too far sweetened in syrup, and exhibit a velvety layer on the outside. Most other locations have the boba being a bit too much on the firm side, but these I found to be almost perfectly chewy and bouncy. Milk Tea Rating: 5/5 Boba Rating: 5/5 Unlike Bellevue, this location is large enough to have tea tastings. They weren't being held when I was in the store and unfortunately the cashier didn't know when they would resume. The tea tastings are always a treat to experience, so I would definitely come back just for that. For some reason I've only experience the cult-like "吃茶三千你好" chant in the Washington locations. What's up with that? As with the other Seattle-area location, wow is Chicha San Chen expensive - $10 after tax and tip for a small drink. The quality is there and it still remains my favorite boba in the area, but it's definitely a once in a while type of place rather than a frequent visit just purely due to the price. The pearls and tea here are both very good quality, and I appreciate that the "full sugar" option is actually not too sweet. I also love that the staff frequently have sample drinks to try out. Insert Kombucha Girl meme :) That's right, I had no interest in visiting their Eastside location, but I was pleasantly surprised they decided to expand to Southcenter. It's pretty convenient since it's near the I-5/I-405/SR 518 interchange and only 10 minutes away from Sea-Tac Airport. They took over a former Starbucks location next to Old Navy. Parking is abundant and free. If it's raining and the line extends outside you'll be ok since you'll be covered under the portico. They offer free samples of tea before ordering. Costco vibes! The cup was small so I drank it like a shot. High quality top shelf tea right there. I appreciated the kind gesture. They'll call out order numbers once beverages are ready. Turnaround time was sufficient considering the amount of staff on hand and the number of customers in queue. They'll ask to see your receipt for order verification. It's a good quality control check. Customer service and professionalism was on point. It was nice speaking to a human rather than using a kiosk. The baristas were welcoming and well trained. They played relaxing music and the furniture was clean. I ordered the Osmanthus Oolong Tea with Mango. It was pretty good and refreshing. We didn't stick around for the tea tasting experience. It was too loud and there were too many people around. You should go during the week if you want to try this. I got into a debate/discussion with my fam about the cup sleeve holder. I could do without the twine, the sticker, and the cup sleeve but they put it on as default. I think it's a waste of resources. They're not considering the downstream effects of the PNW ecosystem. I've gone here before on a weekend and the wait was veryyyy long. They take their time in crafting the teas. This time I went on a weekday and I was the only one in line for my order - I waited nearly 20 minutes. They were waiting for my taro balls to finish as I saw them bring it out and place remaining in there. I wish they communicated with me that they were waiting for the taro balls to finish cooking. As my partners drink was just sitting on the counter to wait for mine. I wouldn't have minded the wait but it would've been nice to communicate that or even make my partners drink nearly to when mine finished. But 20min wait for a drink is steep of a wait especially when I was the only person that ordered. But they did apologize for the wait, I got the reasoning because I was observing. Besides the wait -- the tea here is quality. That's why I would be willing to wait but more communication from staff would've been great.
