Wow, this was really good. Not just "I'm from Texas and this is pretty good Mexican food for NY."…read moreIt's good straight up against other good Mexican restaurants in Austin. We said the first test was the chips and salsa. They didn't disappoint. The salsa wasn't super spicy but was very fresh and super flavorful and chips were great. Next up - the margaritas. The house on-the-rocks margs were excellent. Good balanced flavor, enough alcohol but not too strong, doesn't taste like a mix. Finally, the entrees. My daughter and wife got the mole poblano enchiladas. There were very good. The mole had a nice, rich flavor. The portions were large and they both had leftovers. I had the puerco adobado. It was amazing. A very light, slightly spicy red sauce and tender pork. So good! The fourth in our party got flautas, which were excellent and also a large portion. The rice and refried beans were also very good. The only item that wasn't amazing was the tres leches. It was good but not as moist as what we normally get. We ate it, of course. It just wasn't at the level of the rest of the food. We sat outside on the patio. It's right next to the road but also overlooks the creek and was very pleasant. The service was great. Very friendly and fast. The prices were reasonable. Knowing about Panchos & Gringos, we'll have no hesitation eating Mexican food when we're visiting our daughter in Peekskill. We'll even look forward to it!

Love the cabbage and the dollops of sauces they're topped with. The Asian taco with braised beef is also great, but the fish tacos are awesome. And the owner? So sweet. 5 stars!!!

I always ask "what's good today?", he always replies, "everything!" Then I give my considerations, "it's between the Cuban or tacos" of which he replied "Cuban". I agreed, let's do it. It was snowing and cold. I guess I could've waited in my car but I chose to take in the scenery and stand next to the small propane heater Octavio generously placed outside his trailer. The food came out after maybe 7 min, not long. I quickly shuffled back to my car and got on the road. I opened the tray while driving through the winding Bear Mountain, probably not the smartest thing I've ever done. But this guy was hungry. First we have to try a fry. Crisp, seasoned well and delicious. I wanted to take a bite of the sandwich. It was going to be a chore while driving. The bread looked so good. I could see ham, pork and pickle sticking out the side and I needed a bite. I took a mental note of the tray. I kept my left hand on the steering wheel and my eyes on the road. I reached down w my right hand, grabbed the sandwich and took a monster bite. YUCK A BIG CHUNK OF PORK FAT. I spit it out and ate the rest of the bite. It was good, really good BUT it had a Smokey taste that I didn't love. It wasn't bad, just not my cup of tea. In any event the ingredients were fresh, the bread was toasted and crispy, the fries with the little tub of ketchup were just right. I enjoyed the lunch and look forward to my next trip to Octavios.
