This restaurant is on campus and does NOT have a drive thru, gps has brought me here for nothing. It needs to be fixed on the site.

It has been nearly three weeks; I can stop thinking about No Frill Bar and Grill…read more I'm a military spouse, so I know my time in Hampton Roads is coming to an end soon. I visited a Hampton Roads Restaurant group on FB and asked if someone was visiting from out of town: What is your go-to place to take them? Out of 90+ comments, No Frill Bar and Grill was mentioned the most - six times! So when I finally had a day off and some other business to tend to in Norfolk, it was the perfect excuse to finally try them. No Frill Bar and Grill has been open for nearly 30 years by Jerry Meltsner. Jerry's nephew Jon Kliner helps co-own and manage operations. It originally opened on Tidewater Drive, but the space didn't allow for much growth - 10 years later, he moved to a location off Colley Avenue and Spotswood Avenue. Growth continued, moving from counter service to table service. The second location, at 1620 Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, opened in 2005. The restaurant's longevity stems from quality, consistency, price, service, and staff who genuinely care about the business and serving the community. I asked the server for her opinion on two options - Salmon, Shrimp and grits won. The dish was incredible: lightly blackened salmon, for once blackened food that doesn't just taste like salt. I don't dine with the swine, so I asked for no andouille sausage. The sautéed shrimp, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and spinach simmered in Norfolk Canyon ale sauce over cheesy grits and Boursin lavash cracker. The cheesy grits were smooth, and the Boursin lavash cracker was a nice touch. The Boursin added extra creaminess to the meal. The cracker wasn't really a cracker - more like little toasted bread. After this first meal, I know two things for sure: 1. I definitely understand why it is such a local favorite, and 2. I will be back.

The service is always great and the hosts/servers are always friendly. Our go to is the meatloaf. when you're looking for a good ol' comfort food - that's the best. When I walked in, I was greeted right away. When I approached the counter to order, I did what I normally do when trying a new place, I asked the employees what they recommended, and they were happy to share their favorite drinks choices with me. I decided to try the Apple Jack Chai, which was one of the drink specials. Their drink sizes to me seem smaller than the average coffee shop, but I am ok with that because I feel like our portion sizes are crazy anyway, lol. When I received my drink, I loved that they gave it to me with the top off so I could see what I was getting. I took one sip, and I was like, "This is good," Then I took another sip, and I said "wow this is really good." It wasn't overly sweet, and all the flavors that you love in a chai (cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc) were all perfectly balanced and played very well with the apple flavor. As I was driving back to work, I only had one regret.....I honestly wished I ordered a medium, it was that good. I will defienly be returning to Borjo Coffeehouse again to try some more of their drinks.

My husband always says he wouldn't know the food is vegan if i didn't tell him, it is always so filling & flavorful! The ambiance in here is so chill! I love that there are books, artwork, crystals & spiritual things for sale, but also a mini library & some chess tables & things to enjoy as well. This space always feels welcoming & peaceful & well worth their prices with their portions & unique offerings! The first time i went, it was a little confusing because there is only street parking & Jikoni cafe is inside of House of Consciousness, but they are the perfect place if you are looking for a little bit of magic & a good bite to eat!

They sell different vegan dishes and most have what they call kush in them. It seems to be some sort of grain, but I really don't know. But I do like it. They have Alfredo, nachos, Mac n cheese, desserts, and smoothies. Some of the food is reasonable and some is pricey. A few desserts were $10-$15. I wanted to try them, but not for that price. We placed our order and looked around the store. They have updated the store/restaurant, so it's a more modern vibe. You can read books or hang out inside, so that's cool. The restroom was clean. There was plenty of seating to dine in. The store side sells books, crystals, jewelry, and more!! The cashier and cook were both very friendly!! I'm not vegan so I stick to what taste familiar to me to be safe. The chili is good, you wouldn't even know it's vegan. Definitely get the vegan nacho cheese to kick it up a notch. It also comes with chips. The alfredo came with veggies and kush. I'm glad it was saucy. I got it fully loaded so it came with a hash brown on top also. It was pretty good, but could use a little more seasoning to elevate the taste.. The last time I ate here the portions were a little larger, they seem to be noticeably smaller this time, so that's the only difference I've noticed. The kush usually confuses my stomach for a few days afterwards. It also may make you feel full faster but, I think it's worth trying. If your a vegan you should check them out, but even if you're not you can probably find something to try! Check them out!!

As you enter you are welcomed by walls with colorful canvas artwork (which are for sale and painted by a local artist!). Cute decor with plants give it a homey feel. Dining area seats 14. There is a window view to the outside porch and surrounding area.plenty of parking. Service is a definite 5: you're greeted with a smile as you enter. I relayed that it's my first time and the hostess/wait staff was so helpful telling me about their did used on the board and their popular items. I ordered the green goddess sandwich with chicken salad (you can alternatively order chickpea salad) and a side of kale salad. The sandwich was really delicious: fresh alfalfa sprouts, cucumbers, chicken salad. The kale salad had bacon and fresh grated Parmesan cheese. It was a tad salty but it probably just because of mg taste buds! I couldn't finish the sandwich so I was given containers for my sandwich salad and was provided a foam cup for my coffee. Now the super service treat: the owner Susan came out to chat with another customer. Susan seemed so personable and accommodating, provided the other customer a taste of the burrito of the day: pulled pork, beans and all the wonderful ingredients. Susan unsuspectingly gave me a slice of her buttermilk pie (cereal crust!), as if to give me something that pairs well with my coffee. THANK YOU Susan for your generous and scrumptious gift!!! And lastly: apologies to the wonderful hostess/waitress - I unintentionally gave her extra cleanup work as I spilled my coffee on the porch! Will definitely make ig up to her she. I come back for Saturday brunch! Highly recommend this cafe, a true gem in Colley!
