This place has such good chicken and great portion sizes. Hits the sport in a way no other chicken place has in a while!

I just needed a lil something. My girl going to stockpot and I went over. Dudes quick and to the point, food only takes about 10 minutes, I jammed a bit while inside but frfr it was a lil dead in there cuz it was a lil later but I ain't mad, more time for me to get my order! I would say if you haven't had them before? Today is the day to get up and try it. If you have? You need to be reviewing too cuz this spot too good not to have it bustling all the time! I digress tho, more time for me to get my food and leave satisfied.

I also won gift certificates for Selden Market, and they were burning a hole in my mind. So early on Sunday morning, my partner and I trek from VA Beach to Downtown Norfolk. After a few phone calls to their owner, I could use my gift certificate. We ordered the classic chicken and waffle for my partner (without Captain Crunch or powdered sugar), and since I was in the mood for sweet and savory - I ordered the Grandma waffle. The Grandma waffle is a full-size waffle featuring scrambled eggs, breaded chicken, strawberries, blueberries, and powdered sugar. To drink, my partner grabbed a coffee, and since I firmly believed in brunch, I grabbed a mimosa. Our drinks were the second best part of our dining experience (the first was the customer service). The waffles were lackluster. The chicken and waffle only feature the equivalent of one chicken tender split into four pieces. I wished I had photo evidence, but my partner said, 'Nope, don't photograph this. ' My waffle was better. The strawberries, blueberries, and powdered sugar helped compensate for the lack of sweetness in the waffle. My waffle was also filler since I had more toppings, but another chicken tender would be friendly.

The place inside is very cute and reminds me of a nice punk pop bar. The bar wraps around and there's some tables and a side table that we sat at to eat. I ordered one of their specialty coffees and it is quite the journey but I enjoyed it with the ginger beer and the coffee. My quiche was fluffy and delicious. It jiggled when I tapped it and the side salad tasted great with dill in it and it brightened up things. The combination of both was great. The crust on the quiche was nice as well. My spouse enjoyed their sandwich but didn't realize there was mustard so he ended up just using the chips to eat his egg and sausage. His egg was also fluffy. The patrons that came seemed friendly and you can tell who are locals since they greeted by name often. I love that this place is open. They also have local wine you can purchase. Next time we're back in town, we will visit again.

This is THE place for gluten free meals and darn good for food in general…read more We tried egg white omelette, Maryland omelette, gluten free classic Benedict, hot chocolate, pastrami sandwich, turkey sando, roasted tomato and mozzarella gf sando Sometimes you don't get what you think you will. Hash browns are really home fries. Gf English muffins were out so bread subbed without notice. Such changes are fine-- everything still edible--it just adds to the "ok not blow me away" tendency here The pastrami sandwich is really good though! The meat is excellent and it has the traditional toppings. Service friendly Ambiance comfortable. Military discount

Looking back at my photos from this visit brings a bittersweet feeling because the person I came…read morehere with is no longer in my life. However, looking past the personal nostalgia, my objective view of Baker's Crust remains incredibly high. This place truly delivers a solid dining experience. Here is my honest breakdown of the food and the vibe: The Fried Chicken & Egg: The fried chicken was absolutely delicious--the sauce they used was incredible and paired so well with the crispiness. As you can see from my photos, the fried egg on top was cooked to absolute perfection. The Drinks: The presentation of the food and drinks was beautiful and highly aesthetic. Just a little heads-up on the cocktails/drinks: they definitely pour them strong here! It gave me a tiny bit of a buzz, so pace yourself if you aren't looking to get tipsy too quickly. The Ambience & Service: The service was attentive and thoughtful throughout our meal. The AC was adjusted perfectly--not too cold, not too hot. The only minor downside to the environment is that it can get a little loud and bustling inside. Parking Tip: Since it's located in a busy commercial area, finding a parking spot can be a bit of a challenge. Give yourself a few extra minutes to park. When to visit: This spot is the ultimate destination if you want to catch up with friends, talk business in a casual setting, or simply treat yourself to a relaxing weekend morning. Honestly, it's best enjoyed on the weekend when you can actually slow down. Coming here on a busy weekday might not feel as worth it, simply because you won't have the time to truly sit back and savor the atmosphere. Even though times change and people move on, this place remains a wonderful spot for creating good moments.

I will probably be thinking about Eggs Benedict with soft-shell crab for years to come…read more The only thing which would have made it better was being able to swap the Canadian bacon for a tomato slice. I'm guessing that's possible at the restaurant, but I placed my order online so there were some limits. I don't think a side request would have helped because I did try to ask for some ketchup packets. The strawberry crepes were also good. I'd happily get them again when craving something sweeter for breakfast.

I ordered the Southwest omelet, a side of fresh fruit, and the sweet potato pancakes (no pecans, no powdered sugar). Everything came out exactly how I asked for it, which I truly appreciated. Shoutout to our waitress, who was incredibly kind, patient, and attentive. I'm currently being mindful of my blood pressure, and she made sure my food was prepared without added salt with zero attitude and full care. That level of service really stood out! The omelet was flavorful without being overwhelming, the fruit was fresh, and the sweet potato pancakes still hit without all the extras; soft, comforting, and perfectly cooked. They didn't even need syrup or butter to fully enjoy. I'm giving 4 stars because while the food and service were great, I still want to come back and try a few more things before calling it perfect. But I can absolutely see why this place has been a Norfolk staple for over 60 years. I'll definitely be back.
