My girlfriend got their 4 piece friend chicken and said it was some of the best fried chicken she's tasted. What a pleasant surprise this place turned out to be! I am from Detroit, was visiting PawPaw for a wedding w fam. I actually was hesitant in exploring Paw Paw outside of the Hotel bc I'm not really comfortable in towns like these. HOWEVER- My mom who is from Benton Harbor always talked about this place. I asked a few questions and ordered the Original Battered tenders and seasoned fries well-done. This Chicken Coop was by far the best we've ever had! I didn't know that regular battle or light batter was even an option for the fish or chicken, but it is here. We chose regular. Everything we ordered was piping hot and perfect. They seemed to have several employees working so everything just flowed really well. They were quick and friendly which is always a plus. I was bummed they didn't have tartar sauce out for you to pump yourself but they didn't hesitate to give us as much as we requested for the fish. I was always impressed that the chicken strips are fresh and battered in house and not frozen. I already can't wait to return. Stopped by and picked up a three piece fish dinner to take home. The fish was so thin and cooked way too long it was the texture of bacon. There was very little fish inside because it had been cooked so long and had turned into burnt batter. I also should have checked the order before driving 20 minutes home because they forgot to put the roll in the box. For the prices we pay for food these days ..especially fish... it should NOT be burned to a crisp and it should include everything we have paid for. It has never been this bad at the Paw Paw Chicken Coop before... and I have eaten here for years. Called to complain and they said they would give a free dinner the next time I visit. When I seen chicken coop it brung me back to my hometown chicken coop in Muskegon, MI. I had to stop at this location. First I would like to say they do have a drive thru but you can diner in. The drive thru service was a little on the slow side but I believe they are a little under staffed as well. I got a 4pc chicken wing dinner with mac and cheese and potato salad. The chicken was good could be fried a little long great seasoning. The mac and cheese I give that a 2 out 10 no flavor at all. The potato salad 7 out 10 it was a little on the sweet side. read more

I love me some Chicken Coop. When I was little, I didn't even know what KFC, Popeye's, Church's Chicken, etc. were; my main fried chicken joint was and always has been Chicken Coop. My family and I would always go here and have a delicious lunch or dinner together. Their chicken is fantastic, their sides are so much better than any other chicken joint's, and their fried fish is delicious as well! So go on and try one of their locations out. They have daily specials from 11am-3pm and an all-you-can-eat Fried Fish Fridays for $8.49! Plus there are always coupons available on their website. I always visit the Chicken Coop when I visit my sister in Matawan. I really like their battered fish. The two piece dinner is a LOT of food, quantity-wise. I am also fond of their clams and the cole slaw. Next visit I plan to try the fried chicken. We always get a little of everything and put it all out and try them all. We were impressed that they had fried okra (one of my gal's favorites.) You order and pay at the counter and when your meal is ready they bring it out to your table. During your meal they check and see if you need anything. This nice little non-chain restaurant does a good job. The staff is always friendly and heplful. read more

Paw Paw needs a KFC or a Lee's to put this truly crappy place out of business so you don't have to drive to Kalamazoo for good fried chicken. Every single time I've had food from Chicken Coop, it's been three things- greasy, tasteless, and expensive. The chicken is nasty (beading damp with grease, oftentimes turns mushy on the drive home), the sides are tiny and expensive (not really worth it in taste, either), and as far as taste? There is none! The food is bland. Bland, bland, bland. If you're heading to Paw Paw and want a chicken fix, get some McNuggets or a chicken sandwich at a fast food place, or go to a restaurant for a good meal. Just avoid Chicken Poop and cross your fingers that a Lee's or KFC can actually get a foothold in town. read more

We traveled 12 miles to have the most awful experience in this entire area! I ordered a 2 piece dinner, a breast and a leg, and the manager said they had no breasts "up"? Literally 15 minutes later, I am still waiting inside, (the only person in line), while they continue to fill the drive up window customers? (Yes! The old "chopped liver" situation!) After all that, and the counter person who was at least nicer, told me after I had paid that the "breasts should be out soon?" Well back to the present time, 15 minutes and waiting?! So then, the manager asks me "So what did you want"..... IN PLACE OF, that breast I ordered 15 minutes earlier and paid for when I ordered it!!?? Whaat? So trying to be nice I said, "Thighs!" He then grabs A thigh, (As in ONE!), and places it in the styrofoam container as if we wouldn't notice the thigh (ONE), is certainly NOT an equal substitution for a breast??, everyone knows besides the lesser cost, you have the size and most importantly MEAT, to say nothing that he gave me a "choice", with no breast that I ordered, I could pick a wing, a leg, or a thigh? I then spoke up for my wife's dinner and said, "One thigh is not an equal substitution in cost at least?" He returned my comment with the traditional sigh and went and grabbed another thigh with a disgusted look? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Do the people in this city not know that there are many better looking, tasting, and just plain better options than eating here? Honestly, compared to 2 other chicken restaurants we have eaten at, this was a distant 3rd, but even if it was close to say "Lee's", (not in the ball park by far!!!), this brand of customer service is just plain unacceptable, rude, and in this case, a clear attempt to deceive a customer! We realize you people nearby have no better fast food chicken options at 7pm, but there are many options within 1/4-1/2 mile? I will give a shout out to Red's Drive in just down the road, he has always been nice, better yet KIND, and his food is a 100% better option than going to this "lackluster quality" chicken COOP! To those who own and operate Chicken Coops in other locations, we hope your management and employees treat YOUR customers with appreciation, as it would be difficult not to be able to have better options than this location in Paw Paw? Awesome chicken!! Amazing alternative to KFC, Popeyes, etc. If you're not all about the breading, I highly recommend the lite coating option.
