Ok, this place is delicious! The drive thru ordering does take a little while of a wait, but it's completely worth that wait! During my recent work trip to Benton Harbor, I came here because I wanted some chicken gizzards. I pulled up and ordered at the speaker...and waited. I ordered gizzards dinner with mac and cheese, mash potatoes, and broccoli bites. Upon getting to the window, the workers were very pleasant and got my order together as quickly as they could, but gizzards take a bit to fry correctly and completely so I was ok with the wait. The gizzards were fresh, delicious and perfectly seasoned. The mashed potatoes and gravy were ok. The mac and cheese...terrible. The broccoli bites were FANTASTIC! They tasted like perfect little fried bites of the best broccoli casserole. I have two more work trips to the area coming up and I can't wait to come back to get some more other this deliciousness. read more

Just moved here to area. Asked the manager Ware they hiring. He says yes, come fill out an application. So I arrived 2 days later. Ask counter lady for app. She stated manager outside. I walk up to him and inquire about job and he asked where I last worked. Next thing I know he starts trying to belittle me ( u ain't worked no where for a year) I step back and say I've been working over 23 years what you mean. I worked at Walmart over 5 years. He says come here I etc... I walked away and said I'll be back for the chicken. Service was good food however was not . They changed the mashed potatoes to what tastes like instant mashed potatoes with the worst gravy possible . Green beans also not good . The chicken tasted good but a few hours later I became ill . Possibly mishandled chicken . Won't be back . Hardings chicken is better . I'm not sure how I managed living 28 years and never had Chicken Coop. My husband and I were a bit nervous because we'd never been but when we told the employees they were super helpful. "We have the fire-est chicken in southwest Michigan" they told us. They asked us if we preferred white or dark meat and what pieces (thigh, breast, wings or drums). We ended up also getting fries, mashed potatoes and rolls. So basically we got a weeks worth of carbs in a single meal. The chicken was pretty good but I'm not sure I'd say it's the fire-est. The mashed potatoes were the standard mix from flakes but it tasted like they added extra butter which I was a fan of. The rolls were standard and not homemade so nothing above average. I didn't try the fries but my husband liked them. Overall I'd say while it's a pretty average chicken place, the employees is what would bring me back. read more

Simply delicious!! Only drive thru is open but made fresh and worth the wait! We tried the 8 piece chicken strips, fried okra, Mac n cheese, and sweet potato pie. I watched them pull the chicken strips and okra fresh from the oil but like my husband said they didn't taste greasy. This location is top notch with great service. read more

The dining room was closed, drive thru only. The speaker shrieked so loud it hurt our ears. We could not understand eqch other so we gave up and left. Ended up going to KFC across the street. If you aren' t going to open the walk in at least make sure the drive thru works. read more

The chicken, green beans, & macaroni & cheese were good. My son enjoyed his wings and fries. The drinks were large. But, items on the menu were spelled incorrectly and I had to ask numerous times if they accepted debit cards which leads me to believe they need to make some updates. Got several coupons for this place from the Superbook, so I decided to use 'em! 4 cod dinners later, I can truthfully say that it's a decent place for fried stuff. The fish needs to be drained better though (there's a napkin in the box that they lay the fish on), and the sides I chose were green beans (canned), fries (average) , and macaroni salad. I arrived 20 minutes before closing to order two orders of 6 wings and potato wedges. I was told they only had five wings left. Even though it takes less than 20 minutes cook the wings, the person in charge refused to drop enough for my order. I asked to talk to the owner, and the person that I was speaking to says that was their store. The reason they wouldn't make more wings, is because they had already cleaned up for the night. I love the chicken coop fried chicken and shrimp but the St Joe store is a hit and miss sometimes it's really good and sometimes it's not good at all I don't know if the oil it needs to be changed more frequently or not but the Benton Harbor Chicken Coop hits every time they are always good.
