What an overrated concept that has been poorly executed once again. In order for your 3 ingredient dish to be spectacular, each component of your dish must be flawless in both quality and execution. Let me start off with the price point.. For $7 pre tax, you get 1/2 a Belgium waffle with 3 "tenders" and maple syrup. Let that sink in. 1/2 a waffle. This waffle was soooooo saturated in low quality syrup it was practically a pile of mush that wouldn't even cut properly. The waffle had zero texture- no classic crispy exterior with a fluffy interior. Nothing. Just mush. The "tenders" were a joke. They were no bigger than a a pinky finger in length. Maybe a size of a boneless wing or a jalapeño popper. Maybe. Photos will be included for you to judge yourself. Overall, I tried them because they were a truck I've never been to but I would never recommend this place to anyone. Conceptually, Chicken Coupe should be a slam dunk. I mean, c'mon, chicken n' waffles from a food truck? YES PLEASE! Unfortunately the execution leaves something to be desired. First of all, let's start with the main attraction: The Chicken n' Waffles themselves. While the taste is decent and I would give the flavor a solid B, I have two key gripes with this dish. Firstly, they use tiny boneless nuggets of chicken instead of actual bone-in chicken. This is a dish that really needs good old-fashioned Southern Fried chicken in it (or at the very least, the local favorite Broasted chicken). And it should be whole pieces, leg, breast, wing, thigh. Secondly, it's not really an order of chicken n' waffles. It's a half order. You get half a Belgian Waffle with few chicken nuggtes scattered over it. And it's $8. For mediocre chicken n' waffles I might consider paying $8 for a full order. But never again for a half order. I also tried the White Bean Chicken Chili. Once again, not impressive. It was $6 for the bowl and at that price I was expecting either the largest or the best bowl of chicken chili I've ever had... preferably both. Unfortunately this was neither. It was kind of bland and under-seasoned, a bit watery and actually had too much chicken in it (in my opinion). It tasted like if you went to a very average local coney/diner and the staff decided to experiment and make white bean chicken chili for their soup of the day. Just wasn't very good. The best-looking and most intriguing dish on their menu, I have actually not tried. It's a waffle cone "sundae" filled with chicken and sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Sounds really good, right? I've heard mixed reviews from some co-workers that tried it so I haven't shelled out the $7 for it, just because I don't want to be let down. This is a concept I really believe in. So it would be great to see these guys re-tool their menu to knock it out of the park. Or with any luck someone else who wants to do it right will swoop in with their own fancy coupe. read more

I really enjoy delicious chicken and waffles and I know everyone does them slightly differently, which makes the sampling really fun. I saw that this food truck was going to be at the new Detroit Fleat on Thursday night, so I couldn't wait to check them out. The owner explained you could order a variety of sauces for the chicken like buffalo, ranch, honey mustard or hot. Hmmmm - you do know these will be mixing with maple syrup, right? I went with the hot and was happy to see it was served in a separate container instead of coating the chicken. It was straight Red Hot. The chicken and waffles seemed pretty small for $12 - 3 skinny breaded chicken tenders and the waffle broken into quarters on the side. I ordered the larger version because I assumed my husband would want some. One bite & he was done. I think average pretty much sums it up. The chicken was ok & so was the waffle but, neither were elevated in any way. The owner seemed nice and it was served very quickly. Creativity and flavor could be amped up. read more

This food truck was hired by our employee committee to serve 300 people starting at 11:30 today. They showed up late, started serving about 12:20 and ran out of fries very early. Then they ran out of food before everyone was served. They were paid up front for 300 people and only had enough food for 100 by their estimate. Horrible service. The waffle was nice and warm with a moist center and they tasted delicious on their own, but it took more than ten minutes for me to get my food. I think it cost $8. I could tell they used fresh ingredients because the apples tasted good with a nice amount of cinnamon and sugar in the sauce. There was a good amount of chopped pecans on it and they used fresh whipped cream on top. The dish had four halves of their waffles, which made for a good-sized dessert and the girl who was working their stand was fun with a lot of energy, but I just can't get past the long wait for the waffles. I visited this truck at MoPop, and they were among around 10 other trucks/food options. I decided on Chicken Coupe because it had the longest line, so I assumed it would be great. I was so wrong. I ordered Buffalo Ranch Loaded Fries. After waiting 10 minutes to place the order and at least another 10 minutes to actually the get the food, what I got was what looked and tasted like frozen fries with a chopped up frozen chicken finger, topped with bottled ranch dressing and buffalo sauce. Definitely not worth the $10 I paid- I wouldn't even want to pay $5 for that. As I was waiting for my food, I looked at their ingredients- sitting in the dirt outside the truck. I noticed they were using Krusteaz pancake mix for their waffles. I would expect a place that is focusing completely on chicken and waffles should at the very least have fresh, homemade waffle mix! Very unorganized, hired them for a function at work lunch for employees, but they were not ready to serve at the time we agreed to, later they said they can open but they don't have syrup or butter to make the waffles. Let me explain about the wait, our employees were waiting 20 minutes and order. The manager assured me they can do 70 orders an hour.
