Small space, but seating is nicely arranged: 7 four seat tables & a high 5 seater bar along the window facing Michigan. Food is placed on the counter with the register on trays for you to pick up & take to your chosen table. I thought i ordered the gyro poutine, but the canadian way was on the receipt, which was seen next to the register when the food was picked up. (I wasn't asked if I wanted a copy & I didn't request a copy like I normally do bc for some reason I expected an email or txt, but I got nothing.) I was disappointed that I didn't get what I wanted so that pretty much made me indifferent to my meal. The burgers all come with fries, so I wound up dumping my fries into the poutine.

Potato Pit is a cozy little spot located in Dearborn on Michigan Ave. There's a handful of tables to sit inside and enjoy your goodness You order at counter & wait for your goodness to be hand crafted. We ordered the Original Poutine - amazing hand cut fries & the perfect ratio of melted cheese curds to solid topped with yummy beef gravy. The juicy chicken was cooked to perfection. I washed it all down with a carrot beet ginger cold press juice. Everything was perfect. We will definitely be back!

It's nice to see another poutine place open up after La Fork closed down. I always found their poutine to be underwhelming, so coming into Potato Pit I was hoping for something better. This was for lunch on a weekday and there was a steady stream of customers ordering to-go. Poutine is one of those dishes that you really have to eat on the spot to get the best experience, so I guess those other customers don't really care about freshness too much? At any rate, I ordered the classic. Canadian Way Poutine ($13.99) - The fries are good, crispy where the gravy hasn't touched, soft and soaked with gravy in the places that are covered. They are fried to order so everything is fresh. The gravy has a decent richness and is not too salty. This is a good sign, since over-salting the gravy is a major problem I've noticed with other poutine in Metro Detroit. It's served hot and steaming when poured over the fries and curds. The curds are the weakest part of Potato Pit's poutine rendition. They are served directly from the fridge resulting in most of them being cold even when the piping hot gravy soaks them. They cool down the gravy like ice so that the entire dish is only slightly warm rather than piping hot. Unlike what some other reviews state, the curds are not fresh and have absolutely zero squeak. On the plus side, they are pretty generous with the quantity of cheese curds added and the portion size is decent. Unfortunately, $14 is still very expensive for what you get. It is nice to see an actual poutinerie on this side of the river. I think the current 3.5 rating is pretty appropriate, given the food and pricing. I personally was debating between a 3 and a 4. While I wouldn't go again mainly due to cost, it's one of the better poutines you can get without crossing over to Windsor. Edit: Be sure to ask for a receipt and double check how much they charge. There is something wrong with their POS. I specifically left a $1 tip on the machine (it's a counter service establishment) - I even wrote down the total it displayed on the screen in my notes. My credit card bill is showing a 10% tip instead of $1. Not a big difference, but it's a difference nonetheless.

Customer service was great, place is clean, the food was hot however it was not the poutine I expected. It was very mid in my opinion. We ordered 3 different poutines and none of them did it for us.

Didn't know what we wanted for dinner but seen Potato Pit and Juice Bar on Social Media n decided to try it!!! OMG am I glad we did!! We ordered through DoorDash the food was still warm when it arrived, it also arrived on time!! But the food was beyond what I expected, we ordered the Gyro Poutine Baked Potato that had the baked potato that was chopped up into nice size chunks, plenty of gyro meat, melted cheese curds, brown gravy, green onions, diced tomatoes, and sour cream! This was soooo freakin delicious, I didn't waste no time eating it b4 I decided I wanted to leave my review (lol) my granddaughter ordered the Buffalo Chicken Poutine with grilled chicken, brown gravy, buffalo sauce, creamy ranch n green onions. She texted me stating "this is sooo good NaNa" Needless to say I'm sure we'll b ordering again, hopefully soon!! I also ordered a Hibiscus & Berries drink n that too was super tasty!! These bowls NEVER had a chance !! If you haven't tried this place, definitely do cuz if not ur missing out!

The poutine at this place is legit! The original stuff is amazing but there is a whole menu of toppings - steak, shrimp, nacho cheese, veggies...pretty much whatever you want. If you're a burger fan, don't miss the halloumi burger. Magical. Great spot for lunch. They have a lunch combo with a poutine/potato bowl and "refresher" (flavored lemonade/juice...very fresh btw) for $15. Also check out some hidden gems...fish & chips, funnel fries for dessert, and fried veggies (pickles, cauliflower, etc.).

The first time I had poutine was not a great experience so I went into this slightly wary but I am happy to say that Potato Pit completely rid any wariness I had. I had some regular poutine to start, it was fresh, hot and tasty. Also tried the funnel cake fries and boy oh boy I could have ate those all night. The space itself was very cute with some adorable murals on the wall and you can see right into the kitchen space. I ordered a build your own bowl to go and the portion size was well worth the money. I even had enough left over for the next morning to cook in an egg with it for breakfast. The owner was actually the person who rung me up and he was very nice and felt like he was genuinely happy to have us there.

Canadian Way Poutine Bowl

Food was okay. Food portion good size. It can be shared by two people unless you're hungry. Wasn't busy when I went. Food service area was clean. Only gave 4 stars because it's not the same as the really Canadian version of poutine. Bring Canadian and living in Michigan. This was the closest place to get your craving out the way then driving over to Canada.

I'm a picky person and I've eaten a lot of poutine. I kept seeing this place on Instagram so we took a drive down to Dearborn to check it out. As we arrived, midafternoon on a Saturday, my husband said he hoped we wouldn't be the only people there - we were the only people there. I ordered the classic Canadian poutine my husband got the Buffalo chicken poutine. It was freshly made to order and it was really good. Exactly what we expected. The guy working there was friendly and the decor was nice and clean. Bathrooms spotless. The only thing I would change is to not have the table cleaning rag on display and I wasn't that jazzed about my $5 mint lemonade. 5 stars are for perfect poutine in a perfectly nice restaurant.

I can't believe the place is still here after all of these years. There are 2 types of subs here: Italian, and "Other Subs", so you know that this shop sprang from the vibrant Italian community that once populated Detroit. The Italian Subs at Gonella's are ordered according to how many layers it builds up (which I think is a unique concept). These layered Gonella Italian Subs are layered with a variety of Italian meats (Hard Salami, Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Smoked Ham and Capicola), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & Gonella's homemade dressing. Soft sub buns, tons of stacks of meat, lettuce and tomato or not. No one goes hungry after a sub here. Some deli spots tend to skimp on the protein, but not this place. My team members favorite is the Italian, 6 stacks. I usually will go for a turkey or chicken stack. They offer up to 18 stacks, haven't tried that yet.

Their sandwiches are crazy-expensive, especially for the quality of the turkey. It was the slimy, smooth kind, not the more dry, you-can-see-the-grain-and-taste-the-quality kind. I got turkey and cheddar and it was $15, plus adding a drink and chips was $3 more. Hubband got the turkey and ham sandwich and said the ham was excellent but had the same gripe about the low quality turkey as me. Are they big, yes? Would I rather have less meat but it be much higher quality for the same price? Also yes. Decor hasn't changed in the almost 15 years since I visited. It's clean enough but still incredibly over-crowded with too many tables and chairs. Service was friendly. Honestly, this is just so underwhelming that I'm incredibly surprised that people are excited to drop $15 on a mediocre sandwich. I'm missing something (it must be nostalgia because I didn't grow up here.)

Been wanting to try this place out for a while…read more Overheard this place will be closed for 4 weeks or so starting next week. Grabbed some lunch for my team: Chicken bacon ranch no lettuce or tomato, a large Lebanese salad (no pita), Turkey Reuben sandwich, Chicken melt, Bronx and a can of Mountain Dew and one can of Coke. Oh my. Their Chicken melt menu that someone posted on here changed from what someone else had posted a while back. Their current chicken melt is essentially a chicken Philly. It wasn't what my team member wanted, had to give it to someone else, since it had mushrooms in it. The Lebanese salad was good, the large is a good size. Loaded with tomatoes and cukes. Ended up with bits of pita at the bottom of my salad, had to pick them out. :/ The chicken bacon ranch was nicely packed with meat in a sub bun. The Bronx was good as well. The turkey Rueben was okay. Light on the kraut and sauce. The turkey meat was deli slices though. The bread was maybe separately toasted. It was pan or cook top cooked. The rye was a bit too hard as I tried to get a bite in. I ended up having to gut it and eat the inside goods separately. Oven roasted turkey would have been fantastic, more kraut or add slaw too. Salad was good and fresh. The sandwiches look picture worthy.
