I would have to start by saying we have never been disappointed with Chicken Express. Hubby loves the gizzards from there and we both love the chicken, gravy and biscuits. Chicken is crispy and delicious and we received everything hot and fresh. Service through drive thru was friendly and done well. The place was busy too but they were handling it. It was in the evening but the place was still friendly and serving out fresh yummy food. We normally order food through drive thru. Cant say we have been inside for service. Im sure the ambiance would be just as friendly as they are in the drive thru. I recommend ordering from here and give it a try. We have always gotten fresh food. read more

Recommended by coworkers, I wanted to check out the restaurant for myself. I ordered 8 pieces of chicken and received 6 biscuits as well. The chicken is hot and crispy, along with the biscuits. I have no complaints. The service was fast. I was the only patron at the time. Lol There's a lot of free parking. A drive-thru. I usually skip drive-thrus because I want to make sure I receive what I ordered. As I was leaving, I saw several cars going through the drive-thru. It's a quaint little restaurant with table seating. I've only ever been here with a friend on our way home from looking at houses on Saturday mornings. I usually don't get anything, but today I'd been up since around 6am, had my workout and only had coffee all day and it was now around 2:30pm. I mirrored her order: 4 piece chicken tender meal (except I got spicy) and 2 piece fish meal. For my sides I got jalapeno poppers and cole slaw. I couldn't believe how good it was! First of all, she told me they cook the fish to order. You could tell because it came out piping hot and crispy. I'm not big on chicken strips but they were good. They had nice flavor but wasn't spicy at all. Not sure if that's how they come or if they accidently gave me regular but they were still flavorful, juicy and pretty well coated. Also, they paired really well with the white gravy. These are def top tier chicken strips. The rolls here were really good too. Not sure if they are made in house but they had a homemade yeast roll feel to them in my opinion. They were lovely and made a great little sandwich with the chicken. I got their sweet tea and it was PERFECT. Not instant diabetes but perfectly balanced by Texan standards. And I think that was brewed fresh as well! This place is top tier. Beware; so we went to Chicken express this afternoon and ordered a 9 gizzard and roll . We tasted 2 and there was a weird sour taste to it and on the third we split it open and low and behold It's green on the inside to the tune of being spoiled. We proceeded peeling them and the green were on 5 total. We called and spoke to the Manager on duty Mike and advised him he may want to check and trash the gizzards as ours were horrible green and sour tasting. Okay I have eaten at Chicken Express for years, and while it is not my favorite, it is usually a decent place to get tenders. This location just fails every time, and today I wondered if they are trying to make people sick. The tenders are dried out to the point it tastes like I am eating chicken jerky. Then when I tried the ice tea, you could taste an overwhelming taste of mildew. It was so nasty that I threw the whole meal out. I will never eat at this location again. Far from a bad option. I've always liked Chicken Express for their tenders. And the iced tea is always good, especially since this location has lemon packets available at the beverage and condiment area. I also appreciated the generous offer to mix my tenders between spicy and regular. In short, this should be a much higher review, but there's two problems with this location. First, the parking lot. Number one, it's not the easiest to access from the I-35 frontage road. And the drive through layout makes parking to eat inside a challenge. Speaking of eating inside, the lines can back up quickly since the counter only had one employee taking orders. Great food ! But what really blew me away with the prompt, professional and kind service I received. I would like to recognize Amy and Kay (I'm almost positive. They 2 20 something women. Amy helped me inside with cookies and shorter with brown wavy hair. Kay helped me in the drive threw, bit taller, had black straight hair and a super cool phone case!) They both made me feel welcome. Took the time to clarify my order and to ensure there was not anything else they could assist with. They both successfully upsold me. So, common sense is not so common. I only ordered a gallon of tea and had to wait in drive thru for over 10 minutes with only one truck in front of me waiting on their order. The right thing to do would have been to have the truck pull up and wait and let my easy drink only order be taken care of. The kicker was it was the manager who was working the window. Would have thought he would be more mindful of better flow and thus better customer service. If he wasn't so smoking hot...I would have given him some customer service pointers. I'm allergic to okra and there was so little room in the box that my biscuit was completely smashed by the side of okra...yum. I understand with COVID there's still a lot of supply issues, I work in retail. However I just went out of my way and waited in line for literally 20 mins solely to get gizzards, they were out, ok so be it no big deal I got some tenders then when I tried to order a side I had to ask for several different ones because it sounded like they were out of like 5 sides as well as gizzards and whatever else on the menu. I understand you can be out of stuff and there's not much you can do but if you have lines that take 20 mins just to get to order then you should have at least one sign at the entrance saying what you're out of and update it as the items come in. Let's just say I'd rather drive the extra mile to Golden Chick. This place just opened so I might give them another chance in a few months. I had the chicken tenders and corn on the cob. Not sure how you can mess up corn but that was the worst I've had in my life. It wasn't fresh at all and tasted like it was reheated a few times. :( My mom had the catfish combo and said she won't order that again. This Chicken Express goes out of their way to provide great service and really good chicken at reasonable prices. I drive 30-45 minutes each way once every couple of weeks for their leg and thigh special. A few days ago, I took home an order of chicken that was not real fresh (under the heat lamp too long) so I contacted them and they immediately apologized and referred me to their District Mgr. to "make it right". They ended up replacing the chicken in my order on the next visit and also included a gallon of sweet tea and a side! That shows excellent customer service (that you will never get at Popeye's across I-35). So they really do live up to their motto on the chicken box that reads "We appreciate your business more than we can Express it!" Their District Mgr. also runs the Chicken Express stores in San Marcos and Lockhart, so you can be sure you will be treated the same way there. read more

Really good tasting chicken and you can tell its popular with the locals when there are twelve cars waiting in the drive thru lane on a Thursday at 6:30. The line moved really fast though because the staff know what they are doing. Really friendly and always efficient in taking and handling your order. Best chicken in the area by far and there are more people here every day and even when Popeyes is running their two piece for $1.49 special across the road. I went to purchase a gift card for my son. He eats at Chicken Express multiple times a week. I went through the drive thru yesterday and I believe her name was Elizabeth was extremely rude. I asked if they had gift cards or vouchers. She said " NO", I asked to speak with a manager, she said " No" as well. I asked if anyone was available and she said " the managers were sick. I asked for area manager or something. She closed the window & Everyone in the restaurant came to the drive through to look, so I know she was saying something.
