Something has changed at this location. I used to go here as my closest good fried chicken place. I stopped going for months because they took away the 3 piece dark special and required me to order more chicken than I could consume. I decided to go back twice in the last 2 months and each time my the breading on my chicken has been soggy and oily with no crunch. It is more yellow than darker orange. The chicken itself has gotten smaller and just right at the edge of being undercooked. I don't think I will go back for a long while unless some of you other brave consumers post some better reviews. The chicken was not hot as I pulled over to a parking spot right after pulling out of the drive thru to eat it to prevent it from getting cold because I live 30 minutes away. Chicken was cold, mashed potatoes and gravy were cold too and the okra was burnt and everything was greasy because when you let fried chicken cool it gets greasy. The biscuit was thin and also cold and greasy. I'm so sick from eating here today I can't get off the toilet. Asked me to pull forward to wait for my order. Twenty minutes later (they had locked the door to inside at 5:00. , and would not answer the phone.). I finally got out of the car, and enlisted the help of a women parked at the drive through window. I asked the woman working the window how much longer I had to wait. I've been debating whether or not to post a review on this location, but finally just had to do it. I hope management or even the corporate franchise office reads this review. I have gone to this location (Justin Road) probably 7 times in the last 2 months. My order is simple - 2 orders of the 3 piece chicken and biscuits selection - corn as the side. ALL BREAST. There has only been 1 time that the order was able to be filled. I have been there at different times of the day - noon, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm and 8:30pm and on different days - Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. I thought maybe I was going during a "rush hour". I have gone through the drive-thru and gone inside to place the order. When going inside, I can see that maybe, yes maybe, there are 5-10 pieces of chicken on the rack - and there doesn't appear to be but 1 or 2 pieces of breast meat. And there are probably 4-5 cars in the drive thru - so yeah, SOMEBODY isn't going to get chicken breast. Oh - and this last time I went there - he said they did have the breast meat (yay!) and could fill the order. What did I get? 2 pieces of breast meat and 4 wings. Did I want wings? No. Did I say I only wanted breast meat? Yes. Was the order messed up? Yes. (Also, if you want to be like KFC, just charge for the additional breast meat pieces. I don't care!) Now let's get to the staff - some actually appear competent - a few others, not so much. It could be I'm being judgmental because of the baggy pants (nobody wants to see your butt crack, big guy), lack of hand washing or just the "attitude" that is presented and the deer in the headlights look when I asked for "chicken breasts only", only to be told "it'll be about 25 minutes before it's ready - he has to put some in". It's 6pm on a weeknight, you've got 5 cars in the drive through and you're JUST NOW putting chicken breast in the fryer?!?!? (I'm getting angry all over again, just writing this review.) I don't know who is running this store, but it obviously isn't being managed by a professional. Or someone who knows anything about business. You know you'll sell more than 5 pieces of chicken breast between 5pm and 8pm on any given night. Or hey, why not make it a "rule" that there should always be at least 5 pieces of breast available - if you sell 2, drop 2 more in a fryer. Anyway, I now just go up to Cornith and get it there. They always have chicken breasts ready, the store is clean and the staff is friendly. It has now just become a running joke in my family that when we are on Justin Road to say, "Hey, should we stop in and see if they are out of breast meat?" - Sad but true. I ordered 2 chicken legs in the drive thru at the Highland Village location. I was asked to wait 5 minutes for them to cook. Twenty minutes later, I went inside the store and saw a rack of chicken legs so I thought they would have my order out soon and returned to my car. 5 more minutes go by so I go back in and see they are filling orders for cars behind me. I go back to my car and call to see if they forgot about me. The woman who answered (and took my order) argued with me about the chicken legs not being ready even though I saw them on the warming rack. She lied and said they just came out. I asked her if she could please get my order to me, because I had to get back to work. She continued to argue and offered a refund. I never got my order. read more

okay y'all. They put melted butter on their warm rolls and it's the BEST. No other locations (that I'm aware of) do this. The rolls are good on their own, but the melted butter 110% next levels it. Also they are super knowledgeable, kind, helpful, and SO fast every time. I stop by every Monday as my cheat meal because they're so kind and personable. This is my favorite location. The chicken is also 10/10 the best fried chicken I've ever had, other fried chicken places aren't even considered competition. I'd share a photo but I've already eaten it lol read more

Update on my last review: the drive thru person was patient with me and my husband when we were deciding what we wanted (mixed chicken or chicken strips) we changed our order and she was quick to change it with a good attitude and it was ready so fast. One-star is the lowest option so that is what I must choose. The management at this location is reprehensible!! I saw a notification about a Groupon deal at the store in Highland Village. It's a spot I have been to many times so win-win (even though I hadn't bought a Groupon in years). I ordered and showed the voucher on my phone (which had a UPC code). The worker actually took my phone from me and went to show it to her manager. (A bad move that I shouldn't have let happen -- since so much of our personal info is on our phones). That manager then came and spent several minutes punching on my phone. He then opened the window said the voucher had already been used and was worth nothing. I said that wasn't correct and there must be a mistake. He then began to SCREAM at me that he was the one who set up the offer and knows exactly what it entails. I of course had no response except to say the voucher truly hadn't been used. As he continued to scream at me I actually looked at my phone (which had finally been returned to me) and saw that the screen said the voucher could only be used once and to click if that is what you truly wanted to do. I pointed this out to the man during a brief pause in his attack and he said "oh, well just click that" like he hadn't been verbally assaulting me for minutes. I questioned if that was all he had to say (no apology) since he was the so-called expert and had set up the offer. Why did I do that? The verbal assault resumed and ended with his threat of calling the police. Look people it's chicken fingers... I didn't treat him any kind of way for his position at the establishment and I didn't expect any more respect than would be given to the average customer. WTF just happened? I got a full refund from Groupon and will NEVER visit this restaurant or have AMYTHING positive to say about them every again. It's not often I'm impressed with a drive through experience, and I've never been impressed with it outside of Chick Fil-A. Yesterday, May 14th, I was impressed. Jacob, I believe, was the one who helped me. He took my order sounding chipper, took care of me when I pulled up. While I had a short wait for my food (he informed me about) he ran out and helped the car behind me. All while smiling. The service was prompt, friendly and super efficient and he was taking initiative to help speed up the service. Not something you typically find at a restaurant. read more

Went to this location on 2/17/21 to get 2 gallons of tea. They had posted on their drive thru menu board they were out of certain food items. After ordering we drove up to the window only to encounter a angry employee who jerked the money out of my hand when asked if they had any fries ( not posted on their note ) employee brought back tea one leaking and I asked why so rude to me and shouted we are short handed ( no food to cook or short staffed should have not been taken out on a customer ) when employee went to replace leaking tea they said fuck off. If I could I would give zero stars but that's not an option. Every single time I go to the Chicken Express in Highland Village,TX my order is NEVER correct. All I want is for them to just give me what I pay for but nope it never happens. This time was even worse I ordered an extra side of mashed potatoes and gravy but nope only got one but I was surely charged for 2. And then I ordered fried pickles as a side and I literally got 4 pickles in my order. These are dill sliced pickles. I think they put more than 4 on most burgers when ordered. If I could give a zero star I would. Went in last night to pick up some chicken and decided to go inside due to the cars in the drive through. I notice the sign on the door that said "Lobby Doors Locked at 8:00". I got there about 6:05 so I was good to go. I ordered and stood to wait for my order. The girl at the counter never mentioned that they were out of what I ordered, so I ended up waiting about 30 minutes. No problem, but at about 6:15 I heard this knocking on the door and turned to see a man outside trying to get in. Another customer let him in after none of the staff came to open the door. At this time I noticed the girl had made my boxes that I ordered but they were just sitting there getting cold. The customer that had been at the door was waiting at the counter and the girl with colored hair came to help him. No greeting at all, she just stood there. The man told her that the door was locked and she just shrugged her shoulders, giving him a sneer. He said, " What time does the doors lock?" questioning???? The girl said," Well I didn't lock it? Is this for here or to go?" The customer said no I don't want anything from here and walked out. The girl working turned and started bad mouthing the man to her co-workers and laughing. I don't understand how anyone can compare this dump to Babes or any decent fried chicken restaurant. My experience with this location has been negative on several occasions. The most recent being the worst. After not getting a decent product (cold and overcooked) I decided to give it one more try for my young son who likes their Okra. I called the manager Jessica in advance and explained my frustrations with their food etc. and she took my order over the phone. I arrived at the time she recommended 6 PM and had to go through the drive through because the dining room isn't open. It took 15 minutes to just see the window where you pay so I was concerned that the order would be cold and crappy again. The chicken was fine but everything else was as I had previously experienced, Cold to luke warm and much got it overcooked. The Tenders were pathetic as were the livers and gizzards. I got home as quickly as I could at 6:30 expecting the order to be done well and had to feed my very hungry kids who's bedtime is at 8 PM. I discovered the pathetic food immediately but had no choice but to feed my kids before I could address the problem. I immediately called the store which took 4 phone calls to get some one to answer the phone, And asked for the corporate office number. I called that number and left a voicemail; because the District manager Jimmy didn't answer. Jimmy called me back at approx. 4 PM the next day, I explained I wanted my money back and the situation and he told me I had to request the refund the very same day or he wouldn't. Obviously, that shipped had sailed and the fact that nowhere on the receipt or a sign in the drive thru is there anything indicating the return policy. I called the corporate office and got the number of the owner Mr Woolf. I had to leave him a message as usual, after an hour or so he did call back but I was on a business call and called him back about 20 minutes later and of course had to leave another voicemail. I asked him to call me back and at least leave me a Vm this time to let me know when the best time to call him would be. He has yet to return that call either. I suggest you go to Popeyes which is a superior product and they actually handle their business the they screw up. Their manager who has a huge head of hair wearing a mask or a hair net while cooking should be cited by the health department and I wonder what else they aren't doing or better said cleaning inside since the general public isn't allowed inside. I went through the drive through. Ordered a meal with corn nuggets and a separate apple pie, and an extra side of gravy. After I paid, I got to the 2nd window, where they told me that I then needed to pay more for the extra gravy. I did. They then came back and said that I didn't pay enough for the extra gravy and asked for more money. Then I get home, open the box, and they completely omitted my corn nuggets. I gave this place another go yesterday. My neighbor, that had the same issues with this place said that the cleanliness and employees were much better. Not so much! Probably worse! No greeting from the cashier, she seemed to think she was doing us a favor taking our order. They plopped the bag on the table and thank goodness I checked because the rolls were missing (if I went home and realized the rolls were missing - well, let's just say, thank goodness I checked). Went to the counter to ask for the rolls and there was no apology, nothing, handed me the "burned" rolls. Very disappointed in this chicken express today. We usually go once a week and order same thing every time. I was told fish would take 8 minutes. As I stood there waiting for fish, a new batch of fish was completed and out it went for other orders. 8 minutes passed. Manager put down another batch of fish. 8 minutes more (not including prep time) I waited and got the last piece of fish. However, the fries weren't ready. "Sorry you had to wait." Really?! I was told by the manager (found that out later) it would be 8 minutes. 25 minutes later my food was ready. I went in to get it to go. When I called to complain, the manager said he had no words. How about, "I'm so sorry you order wasn't completed in a timely fashion." Almost anything would have been better. Didn't offer a refund, free cherry pie or an apology? I didn't need anything free, but do something. However, once again, IT WAS THE MANAGER who told me 8 minutes. 25 minutes total. I came through the drive thru for lunch. Please explain how it took over 30 minutes to get an order of gizzards, with a side of sweet tea, and mashed potatoes. This is beyond ridiculous. When I ordered I asked how long would gizzards they said 6 minutes. Waited in line for about 29 minutes. Then I paid for my food and was asked to pull forward. I then asked if they had JUST started my gizzards when I paid for them just now. She assured me that was not the case. Fast forward 10 more minutes and cars have come and gone but I am still waiting on my gizzards. Well my lunch is over so I pull into a parking spot and proceed to get out to get a refund. I am met at the door by a young man bringing me my LIVER which I did not order. So basically slower than slow service and mixed up my order. The young man was nice he apologized, quickly refunded my refund, and let me keep the tea for free. I will say the tea was great. The two stars are for the tea and the pleasant young man. read more

I called to let them know and they offered me a 25% discount off of my next order. A 4 piece tender combo is 8 bucks while a 7 piece costs 11.50. Ate here on the Saturday of Memorial weekend and had food poisoning all night Saturday and all day Sunday. I even communicated back and forth with my RN friend to decide if i needed to go to the ER. She came over after her shift to check on me. I was that sick. I called the manager to tell him and he didn't even offer a refund. I guess $8 and some odd change doesn't really matter after you've been sick the majority of a major holiday weekend but the fact that it wasn't even offered speaks volumes of this manager and the business itself. The health department has been called. I'll be eager to hear about what happened and if a manager who actually gives a hoot about customer satisfaction will attempt to resolve this issue. Even if this issue is resolved, I'll never eat at this chicken express or any other one ever again. And this is coming from someone who for years loved chicken express. Once you puke your guts out and have other symptoms not worth mentioning on here, the thought of eating food from there ever again disgusts me. Cleanliness is not only the right thing but it is also essential to your business. Who knows? They may operate a clean business but maybe the food sat out or was spoiled. I really don't know. What more can you want from CE, I stopped here during my lunch break and was quickly served . The chicken tenders, fries, roll, and sweet tea were all perfect. This CE went the extra mile by giving the perfect amount of gravy, throwing in honey without asking, and some seasoning packets, this was a first and really appreciated. We had a crave for fried chicken so we tried this place for the first time. Drive through. Ordered their 8-piece dark. We were confused with how the food was priced so we didn't order corn. At the payment window, the cashier took some time to explain to us and we ordered what we wanted. Held up the line a little but I really appreciated the lady at the window. The chicken came out fast, my husband joked how it's up to its name. We drove home with the chicken still crispy.
