Today is our Brotherhood Luncheon and Ana is our friendly server. I ordered a grilled pork chop with mixed greens and fried apples. Split decision. The service is OUTSTANDING! We had a group meeting and used a room that sat about 15 people and our waitress was over the top amazing. It got a little loud in there and she had an incredible about of patience. The food was, in my opinion, mediocre. You can tell they make it fresh in house but the amount of salt made the two things I ordered (fried mushrooms and lima beans) inedible to me. I should have said something...but like I said...the waitress was so nice to all of us. read more

This is a place my parents really enjoy and the service is always better than I see other places. They have incredibly large portions as well so if that's important to you it's happening here. This is also a coke establishment which is important to a lot of us. Honestly? I love their French fries. I've been to Chicken Housr several times since I last reviewed them, and waited to write another review until I felt comfortable that a five star review was really warranted. I'm happy to say it is! My only complaint in the past was that their version of 'country seasoning' was an overabundance of salt and pepper. The food is always on par here at the Chicken House. If you want good comfort food, this is the place for you. I've had livers, gizzards, tenders, fried chicken bone-in, onion rings, greens, bluegill, codfish, fries, and coleslaw. It is ALL very tasty. The service is always top notch. We've had several different servers and they are always good. Chicken House is always crowded at the normal times, so expect a wait. Met a friend here for Friday lunch and was shocked at how busy this place happened to be on this particular day; however, we then remembered it's Lenten season and the Friday fish special is bluegill. We arrived at noon and both had a heckuva time finding parking spots in the ample paved lot, but eventually succeeded. There are large parking lots located on both sides of the building accessible from the 2 cross side streets. Building is accessible for those with mobility concerns. We approached the hostess stand and opted to be seated in the large dining area near the main entrance, but also noticed smaller dining rooms and outdoor covered patio dining areas. A separate takeout order hostess stand is located near the entrance, as well as assorted food items (preserves, jams, jellies, etc) for sale. My friend had a grilled pork chop and 2 sides, which she declared to be very good. I ordered the chicken liver platter with Cole slaw and greens, which was a giant serving. It happened to be 1 pound of livers and I took the bulk to go. (I wish I had requested gravy, if available.) Our orders also included yeast rolls and real butter, which were fantastic. My order was only $16 and easily will be 2-3 meals. Service was attentive and especially amazing considering how busy it happened to be when we visited. read more

8/10/26 - Went in today for the beef & noodles b/c the pic looked good. The actual serving unfortunately didn't look like the pic. Alot less gravy and beef pieces. Also, that's not a plate it's a salad bowl. Most other restaurants would call that a lunch serving. I'll include a pic of what they posted compared to what is actually served. It was decent. I just think it's not a good value for $15. IMO if you're going to charge a premium you need to deliver so either drop the price or serve food that looks like the photos you post. read more

Who knew? Chicken House has been serving up fried chicken since 1830. So, if you come here looking for steak, all you'll find is chicken fried steak. In fact, if you're looking for healthy food, you're in for a disappointment. Most everything is fried. Fried chicken. Fried chicken livers, fried pork chops, fried fish. But if you're up for some homestyle fried chicken, you've found nirvana. I ordered a fried chicken platter. Good lord, 5 pieces of chicken (breast, 2 thighs, drumstick and wing). The platter comes with 3 sides. I went with fries, German potato salad and green beans. Toss in a yeast roll and you've got a lifetime supply of carbs. And cholesterol. Fortunately, I took 3 pieces home. My wife found the one dish not fried (other than a salad). A grilled chicken breast meal. And, no surprise, Chicken House doesn't know how to grill chicken without drying it out. Service was excellent. Particularly for such a busy joint. Casual. Loud. This is no place for an intimate conversation. But if you like fried chicken, come n get it! read more

Well, it's a ride from east Louisville to sellersburg area but how unique. Been there 75 years. Seat yourself! Opens at 11a....PACKED!! If you go between 130p and 2p, you will probably enjoy a little more. Food scrumptious if you like chicken....or blue gill on Fridays ONLY, only served between 11a-3p. In my 70 years of dining, I felt like I was at an Indiana Catholic picnic, less the passing of the bowls. Been years since I have tasted a fried chicken breast like this one. An extensive menu of how u can order this chicken, white, dark, fried, grilled, livers, gizzards, etc. Not on the menu, you can order just one or 2 pieces of chicken. That was me...a fried breast, green beans and mustard potato salad...about $10. I think some of the dinners had 5 pieces of chicken!!!! The parking lot is hilarious. Holds umpteen cars but no lines!! There again, no lines at those church picnics either. But here you u have pavement, not grass. And then there are desserts. They have a little shopping area.......cakes, pies, cookies, all homemade plus jams and jellies. We opted for a jar of the no sugar added apple butter and could not pass up their chocolate chunk cookies....about $1 each. I'm told we missed the boat not ordering the banana pudding. There will def be a next time....on a Friday about 230!! And they don't run out of fish. read more

Chicken house in Sellersburg. I ate there today ! The service was quick and even though there seemed to be 50 cars in the parking lot! The servers were quick and very accommodating when I told my waitress it was my first time. I drove around 90 minutes to get there because I drove past last year after eating some very bad Mexican food. What I smelled driving past, made me want to "give up" the bad food I had just eaten and go in to eat at the Chicken House! The fried chicken was very good. Two sides , mashed potatoes with white gravy, very good, and not to discredit anything else, my other side was green beans. They were the wide flat green beans with bacon , and ,,, some kind of magic flavor that I really loved ! I ate most of the green beans first then , they also included a split top muffin bread maybe made in a muffin pan? Served with real butter! The bread was cooked perfectly and a hint of sweetness. Ate there today after many years absence. Figured best to get the Deluxe white meat meal. Server brought two chicken breasts, and three wings, along with three sides. Order came rather quickly, and I soon figured out why. Chicken breasts were very dry, and obviously had been cooked earlier in the day. When you are named the chicken house figure that would be the best thing to order. Let's just say if I want chicken again that wouldn't be on my list of places to go. We've been to The Chicken House a few times now and have not been disappointed. We live about a hour away so it isn't often but yesterday afternoon we had to be in the area around 4:00PM and took advantage of the opportunity. This was one of the first times I've seen the parking lot not full there. I assume it was because the time was between lunch and dinner. Because the fried chicken is so good I can't really comment on anything of the other entrees the menu, because I always get the chicken. I had the chicken with the loaded potato salad and green beans, while my wife had the chicken with mashed potatoes. The dinners also come with a dinner roll. Everything was great. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and came out hot, fresh and juicy. The Italian style green beans were very flavorful, with small pieces of diced bacon. The loaded potato salad (bacon and chive) was very good. I sampled my wife's mashed potatoes and they were good too. The dinner rolls are large and very good. I wish the butter they provided was softened a little more as it doesn't spread at all, even with the roll being warm. My only disappointment was that we wanted the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, but they were out. It happens. I heartily recommend The Chicken House. read more

This place is in the middle of the country. We pulled in and the parking lot was full. No wait though for our party of 13. Our server and all the staff was so friendly. It's in what seemed to be an old farmhouse. So cute. The food was southern at its best. I got the fried chicken two thighs and a drumstick. For sides mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. All so delicious. The green beans were perfect southern style (not steamed and crunchy). My husband got smoked bologna sandwich with pimento cheese on top. The wait can be a little long, but the atmosphere is casual laidback country and the food is incredible. The fried chicken is second to none, tastes just like grandma made it. They also have a rental room upstairs. The food though is just done right. The chicken, of course, is perfect. The fried chicken is awesome, but they have tons of specials daily. These include more chicken dishes that are great. Now, they also have many other dishes that are great too. The sides though, are outstanding! I had the 1lb of chicken livers they allowed me to split 1/2 livers 1/2 gizzards, both came out hot fresh crispy and flavorful. My daughter and granddaughters shared the 2 lb. Chicken livers.
