Rubbin Butts Bbq in Sellersburg, Indiana was really good. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast with onion rings, and I had the brisket dinner with coleslaw and baked beans. My wife really liked the pulled pork. It was moist and tender without a whole lot of fat. The onion rings were cooked perfectly. Nice and crunchy. My brisket dinner was also really good. Nice and tender and really good smoked flavor. My only problem is it's pretty pricey for two and a half slices of brisket. But it was really good. The coleslaw was good, it was like a creamy vinegar slaw. The beans in my opinion were good but I think they were sitting around for a while. They were just thick and sticky. Again, just my opinion, I like my beans a little more saucy. The service was great, and the restaurant itself was rustic looking and very clean. I will definitely give Rubbin Butts another try on our next trip through southern Indiana. read more

We ordered pickup and drove from New Albany. They told us Door Dash had picked it up when they actually did not. So we drove back to Sellersburg. Before we drove back I called and explained the situation and they said hold and sat the phone down and completely forgot me for over 20 minutes. When they finally hung it up I reached out again and was passed from person to person finally getting my order. Then I didn't get what I ordered, the pulled pork was dry and they did not give any sauce. I wrote an email to the manager/owner and again I was completely ignored. I gave them ample opportunity to address the issue and still nothing. The order was close to $75 taking over an hour and a half to get the food with over 60 miles going back and forth twice and yet they can't even bother to send a reply! I would not recommend nor would I give my hard earned money just to be ignored! read more

This was our first time trying RB, and we were impressed. Servings were very generous, and the food was delicious. The service was good and friendly. They offer a variety of main dishes besides bbq, such as shrimp, fish and chicken. They had a few unexpected sides, like deviled eggs (they had a bit of bbq sauce in them, which was a bit different but tasty). I ordered the quesadilla with pork. It was great--the shell was perfectly crispy, not soggy, with the right amount of cheese and bbq meat ratio. The pork was tender, and chopped fine, it was not real fatty and had good smoky flavor. It was served with your choice of bbq sauce, no sides. It was a huge quesadilla so I couldn't eat more than 2 pieces. I also had a few bites of the baked beans, which reminded me of my grandmothers, who is a great cook. They had a lot of flavor (I could be wrong, but I thought I tasted a hint of green pepper). Rubbin' Butts has been on my 'To Try' list for awhile and I finally had an opportunity to check them out. They are located in a strip of shopping stores. A sign on the wall just inside the door says "seat yourself." The booths have hard bench seating and their tables have padded chairs. The TVs look like at least 65 or 70 inches to me and there are a lot of them. My granddaughter and I ordered a Full Slab of Ribs and split them. I ordered the potato salad and baked beans. She got the fries. Then she pranked me. She told me the fries were really spicy so I grabbed the red squeeze bottle and put some ketchup on my plate first and tried them. They were one of the spiciest things I've ever ate. Truth was the real ketchup bottle was hidden behind the roll of paper towels and the red squeeze bottle was the spicy BBQ sauce. The fries were fine as in normal. She got me good. She made the same mistake though and then decided I should share her misery, lol. The ribs were excellent as were the baked beans and fries. I didn't care for the potato salad. There was nothing wrong with it; it just didn't appeal to my palate. And we both enjoyed the large order of fries. I have not been coming to this restaurant because of the poor service I received on my last couple of visits. I am sorry to tell you that it has not improved. I came in and sat down at about 12:00pm on Monday 10/27/2025. I waited for someone to acknowledge my presence. This never happened. After sitting there for over 5 minutes I got up and left you business. I walked right past one of your servers and they didn't say anything. There were two younger women "waiting" on tables but they seemed to be lost. I looked around and there were a couple other tables still waiting for menus. The restaurant was not busy at that time. There are better places to get BBQ and they have great service. Don't waste your time with this restaurant. Had WDRB certificate and wanted to try this place out. We got 20 wings. 10 with Rudder Hot (great spice!) and 10 BBQ sauce. Also got the family meal that had smoked pulled chicken, pulled pork, brisket, two baked potatoes and a slab of ribs. Every item was well smoked. So tender. Also got the brisket quesadilla. The bourbon BBQ sauce is excellent and a little spicy. They give you slices of bread but I wish they would serve buns with the family meal. They did forgetthe butter and sour cream. With the coupon the bill came to $77. Rounded up to $100 for the tip. Got everything to-go but I still leave a nice tip. Worth going! Great smoked food. read more

Closer to 2 1/2 stars. Needed to make a quick lunch stop and Butts was close. It's been a long time since I've eaten here. Ordered a Brisket Sandwich ($12.99) with crispy fries. Also had a 20 oz draft beer ($7.25). I've had their brisket sandwich numerous times over the years. I was struck by the minimal amount of meat on my sandwich. There was less than half the amount of brisket I used to get. The brisket itself was good, just not enough of it. I ordered the fries extra crispy. They were served somewhat crispy but not enough for me. Butts used to have what I consider reasonable beer prices. While they are not the highest price in the area, but their price just keeps creeping up. One last observation. A row of pinball machines have been added since my last visit. I guess if you're into that kind of thing, that's a plus. The extra noise when someone is playing (which there was on my visit) just adds to the ambient sound level which is not a plus for me. Still open in the pandemic days, Rubbin' Butts has roped off half their booths and moved the tables in the dining area so that they're further away from each other. Staff is masked and most of the patrons are masked when they're walking around. Not great enforcement today, but I'm sure they'll get better. I chose smoked meatloaf for dinner tonight. A good sized portion and with the draft beer that's on special made for an inexpensive and tasty meal. I would definitely consider another meal from Rubbin' Butts if only for the name. I came in with a friend that is helping me sell a few cars. I flew in to the local airport and he picked me up and suggested eating here. I can't say it was a bad idea at all. I came in we sat down, got a water and then ordered a blackened fish sandwich with fries. All I can say is it is one of the better fish sandwiches I have had in the area. I've been here twice for lunch. It's been slow mid-week which means that the service is that much faster. They have a lunch special in addition to the main menu. I've stuck with that each time. You get a sandwich with their limited choice of meat and their homemade chips. I've had the pulled pork and meatloaf so far. Previously, I also took a pint of mac and cheese home for my daughter. Our go-to items are the potato skins (they're loaded with pulled pork and a BBQ drizzle and served with sour cream), the meatloaf sandwich, which is smoky and tender, the cod sandwich (my grandma's favorite - she loves the large portion of fish compared to other places), and the wings... the wings are phenomenal to say the least; meaty, smoky, crisp skin, and the Spicy BBQ sauce option on them is on point. Me and my sister stopped in on a Sunday night which was not busy and we thought we could get in and out. I order nachos and my sister ordered potatoes skins she asked sour cream and mine was supposed to come with sour cream but it was not on the tray than I asked got my bill I was charged 1.54 for sour cream which the menu stated it was on there and my sister didn't get charged also her coke was on my receipt which i had water because I can't drink sodas because of med I am on. An absolute must take family friendly restaurant. This is a seat yourself restaurant and I do have some questions on how they know when someone comes in but I assume that they have someone that hears a doorbell go off. Better than Marks Feedstore, better than American Smokehouse, and we really like both of those. We talked with this amazing bartender her name was either Lisa or Michelle, she had bright white hair and she was incredibly amazing at answering all our questions very friendly she was running the bar area by herself she probably had 20 or 30 people in there and she stayed on top of it. The drinks were kept very cold and refills came on time. She had great recommendations. We ended up trying the potato skins that they top with pork barbecue it comes with sour cream and the sauces are on the table. I really like their version of the mustard sauce, they also have a sweet baby Ray's sauce, and then they have a spicier one that they make in house that I definitely could not handle but my husband locked it. We plan on going back. We did some thing at the end of our mail that we don't typically do we re-ordered the mill to take home so that our parents could enjoy it because we loved it that much. Always looking for a good BBQ when out of my hometown area. Saw this joint listed on a billboard on I-65 and decided to give them a shot. The girl who took my order was pleasant and helpful with my questions. Found out they have been open 6 years and they also have a seafood place right next door called Rubbin tails. I will try it out next time. The brisket was delicious and not dried out. The potato chips have a great flavor and were actually pretty tasty despite the coloring. The smoked Gouda and bacon bites were definitely smoky and the dipping sauce pretty spicy. It was labeled as coming with ranch on the side which i think would of been better. I'm a fan of spicy so I really couldn't lose. If you don't like hear then make sure to ask for the plain ranch. Overall pretty happy with my late lunch decision and the place was pretty nice and the food was yummy. The price point was very affordable for good BBQ. read more

No? Good. No worries, I just folded the top slice and ate what I could. Of course I tried it prior to adding the BBQ sauce (of which they have me 2- 1 hot 1 not- both were good tho) -- nope. Bland. Dry. ... add the sauce. Next up. The sides!!!!! Y'all. The smallest sides I ever did see. Maybe they spoil me in Atl, but not here. 2 scoops, maybe 3 and you're done. Not full, just done lol. I went to Rubbin' Butts at the recommendation of two different people I met at an Arcade Bar. When I stepped in it seemed like a generic Barbecue place, and honestly it really is. The walls don't have much decor and was mostly just set up with TVs displaying several different shows and football games. I saw 1 staff member the entire time I was there which was odd, but she did a fantastic job of serving me. I got a Spicy Pulled Pork Sandwich and was given the low down on their 3 signature sauces. Now everything else: first for $16 I'd like at least 4 slices of brisket not 3. It's very thin and the flavor was just okay. Most people would like the green beans but I thought they had too many onions and the flavor was over powering. Her meal was worse. The hush puppies were tiny and hard as a rock. I hate to be brutal, but my wife expressed what I thought on every point. Our waitress was very pleasant. We ordered extra crispy fries after we placed our order and good thing we did. They were the best item we were served. The worst food we EVER had follows: brisket (super fatty and terrible flavor), baby back ribs were barely tolerable, absolute worst baked beans, Cole slaw, potato salad and way over-cooked green beans. My wife and I were stunned at how bad this food was. We eat lots of BBQ and usually quite pleased. This wasn't just the worst BBQ. It was just the worst food. Just terrible. The fam and I always try to find unique places to eat while on road trips. When "Rubbin' Butts" popped up on my Yelp app, how could we *not* go here?!? First off -- as noted in my tip, it's mapped wrong via the Yelp app. Instead, Go the opposite direction off the exit (south?) on 31 and it's in a strip mall on the right -- past the Taco Bell and other yucky fast food. So yeah. This place was interesting! We visited on a Sunday and there was a small crowd packed in to a little tiny 'bar area' separated by a half-wall of sorts -- enjoying themselves and watching the game. Drink special was a bucket of domestic beers -- appropriate given the day and crowd there. Let me say -- this place smells like smoked BBQ. That's a good thing. The sauces are on the table in squeezy plastic ketchup looking things and not marked -- so be sure to ask which is the 'regular' and which is the 'spicy' (my fav of the 2). I opted for the stuffed baked potato with just chicken and cheese and then added the sauce. Pretty good, very filling. Chicken a little dry -- but most smoked chicken tends to be. The Hubs and the Bird loved their pulled pork sandwiches and fries. I thought some of the menu offerings were interesting (meatloaf and mac & cheese wrap?). Overall, a cool little place in the middle of no where. Service was quick and friendly. Food was reasonably priced. Would have been 3 1/2 stars, but rounded up for good service...and for the name. Great BBQ joint if looking for a tasty place to eat off of I-65. To be honest, my friends and I were interested in trying this restaurant because of the name. Plus Yelp has been helpful with finding local places! We split the deviled eggs as an app and it surprisingly had a nice smoky flavor along with the creamy consistency of the center. Very delicious! The beef brisket sandwich was very tender, juicy and flavorful! The coleslaw was a great choice of side and was nicely crisp, not swimming in sauce. Just a heads up that if you order a Family Platter, don't expect it to feed more than two people! I don't know how big their family is but my family is normal size and there was definitely not enough food for the almost $90 that we paid for this meal, 2 family platters shown in picture. The brisket was dry and everything else was just sub par. I hate knocking a small family-owned business but this one just doesn't do it for me. If the manager had maybe done something when we complained about the meal then I would rate it a little higher, but the fact that they didn't care almost made me make this a one-star review. Pretty upset to be only giving this place 2 stars, as my boyfriend and I were super excited when we found this place. We love a good BBQ so when we discovered a local restaurant where we just moved, we couldn't wait to try it. Maybe we caught them on an off night, but it really was just throwing out money since we left still hungry. My boyfriend got the BBQ ribs. Dry, burnt, literally no edible meat. Tried to pull it apart to try and find a few bites, but there was really nothing there that was edible. He put some BBQ on top to try and eat it but left it mostly untouched. He got a side of Mac n cheese, which was lukewarm at best on top, the rest was cold. It came with a side of plain bread, no butter or anything on it. He probably would've put some meat on there if he could get any. I got the cod sandwich with a side of baked beans. Cod was fine, didn't have any flavor but it was edible. Got it on "Texas toast" which again was just plain bread. Beans were lukewarm. We try not to be too needy when we go out. We've both worked in restaurants and know how it is. We had to go ask for silverware, then my boyfriend spilled his drink and we cleaned it up, no problem since it was our fault. But a staff member did see it happen and just kind of walked away, seemed weird. Didn't even offer to bring a new drink until they saw us sharing a drink. Granted we could've just gone back up and asked for a drink, but we figured since they saw it they were bringing one out. Service wasn't terrible but not exceptional either. Just meh. Espically since we were the only ones in there eating, the only other people there were some guys talking to the bartender. There was very few staff there, not unusual in the world we live in. Actually I'm pretty sure one if not two of the 4 staff we saw were the owners kids. So we made sure to leave a good tip regardless, though they were pretty inattentive. I unfortunately don't think we'll be returning. I hate that because we want to support local. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, which is why I'm leaving 2 stars instead of 1.
