I live about 2 minutes from here and decided to try them out for the first time. It was awesome! The gentleman said it would be a 5 minute wait for the chicken. Not only was a Uber driver late And Food cold, but the food was only subpar and just tasteless and disgusting. I don't even know why anyone else would even recommend this place because the food is just disgusting altogether!! The driver even delivered us someone else's order and I don't know why they did!! I know these mix ups happen but still, Uber didn't even give me a break and still charged me when I try to replace my order and receive my actual order!! My actual order still was miserable!! It had been years since we last visited Chicken Rico. Recently, I was wanting to have some pollo a la brasa and chaufa (fried) rice. Seeing that GrubHub worked with Chicken Rico, we decided to give them a try. I had remembered their chicken as being quite good and I had enjoyed their chaufa rice. This time they had a dinner special that consisted of 1/4 chicken (with an upcharge of 50 cents for white meat), 2 sides and a can of soda. So, that's what we each got. My dinner had white meat, chaufa rice and platanos. My husband had dark meat, cole slaw and platanos. We each got a can of Coke. The order got to us in a reasonable amount of time. We noticed that the chicken was still warm. Also, we noticed that they were still preparing the chicken the same way, which involves rubbing spices under the skin which adds extra flavor. I was impressed with my piece of chicken as it managed to stay moist throughout the meal. No need for any green or yellow sauce. The platanos were also warm and very flavorful. The rice didn't disappoint as it, too, remained moist and the flavoring was spot on. My husband liked his cole slaw but wished it wasn't so soupy. He appreciated that they put it in a separate container. He, too, enjoyed his piece of chicken. Excellent spot for Peruvian chicken. They work fast, the interior is generally clean, and the portion sizes are commensurate with the prices. I strongly recommend the chicken burrito. The fried yucca is an authentic part of the meal, but, unfortunately, they don't season them enough. A bit more salt right when they come out of the fryer and I think they'd be perfect. Just got off the airport and headed straight here. Super hearty Peruvian food with a huge portion. It was a bit salty but my friend who regularly comes assured me that it typically wasn't so salty. I ordered the lomo saltado with the mango yogurt drink. Fries were steak cut and drenched with the meat juice. The two sauces that came with the dish was one of a cream base, and another that was like a tomatillo/jalapeño purée. Fantastic with the fries and the meat. In COVID-19 times, their game has only gotten better: a barrier is now in place between the food counter and customers for additional distance; all seats have been removed from the main floor but those by the windows (two tables on opposite sides of the restaurant) remain for dine-in; all staff wear masks and patrons are required to do so too. I also hear they offer contactless delivery. On my most recent visit, there was a note taped to the cash register thanking patrons for helping them provide meals to local families in need during the pandemic. I ordered delivery via grub hub. Delivery was fast. Unfortunately I was informed that on weekends they do not have vegetables or spinach as sides. So I ordered salad and plantains instead and did not regret it. Delivery was quick. I ordered the 1/4 chicken . Chicken was moist juicy and seasoned very well. The plantains were amazing! The food here is good. I'm appalled at the hygiene though. The last time I went here the soap dispenser was broken in the Men's bathroom. When I informed an employee she mentioned the dispenser was broken frequently by customers and when she would put other soap out, the customers would steal it. She mentioned there has been no soap in that bathroom for several weeks now for that reason. I had to leave without washing my hands. I can only imagine the cooks are also not washing their hands. I got really sick back in June(possibly hep A) and although I can't say for sure I think I could have been infected with a foodborne illness from a place like this with no hand washing taking place. read more

Having never had Peruvian food before IO wasn't about to turn down the opportunity. The sides being something I saw when I lived in Puerto Rico made me excited to try their food. The meat is always tender and like some Peruvian places, they are not at all cheap with their sauces! The chicken is always really juicy and flavorful and made well. I have no complaints about the yucca it's so delicious. Today however I got a cheese burger as I wanted to try something else and I wanna say it was equally as good! I was nervous because noones really written anything about that item or even posted about it. I can imagine people mostly go here for the Peruvian items but I was surprised and the portion was huge!! Chicken Rico, please take me back! Wow. So the owner must have read my review and reached out to me (it always makes me happy to see owners taking pride in their businesses enough to read and respond to consumer feedback). He was very apologetic, said they made adjustments based on my feedback, and generously asked me to come back in and give them another shot. I have to admit, I was a little hesitant, but his apology was sincere and I am all about forgive and forget. I seriously am glad he did. I had me some of the best dang chicken I've ever tasted today as a result! I came in and spoke with the manager about the previous incident. She also apologized for the previous experience and was very nice all around. She took care of me. She scooped me up a heaping to-go order of a quarter white chicken, chicken fried rice, and chickpeas. The rice was good and moist. It had a mix of green onions, chicken and subtle flavors hanging out in the background. I probably would add a little bit of soy sauce if I had it on hand, but I mixed in a little of the yellow sauce that was in my bag and it worked out pretty well. Better than the fried rice I've had at most Chinese restaurants in fact. The chickpeas were very good as well, the texture was just right (which seems to be a problem at a lot of places that serve chickpeas) and had the flavor you would find at a lot of middle eastern establishments. It was very good and I was happy to see it on the side order line; a nice change of pace from your typical Pinto beans or black beans you would normally get at a chicken joint. I also took note that she scooped it into a leak proof container. Thank goodness! :) But the star of this show was the chicken. It was absolutely perfect. It was big and juicy. Crisp on the outside, juicy all the way through it's thick thick breast. The seasoning was definitely there, blackened perfectly (without tasting burnt) but wasn't too salty or overpowering. I generally don't eat all the skin when I go to a Chicken place because you always hear about how unhealthy it is.... well, there wasn't a scrap of skin left. It was so good I couldn't hold myself back. It seems almost crazy for me to say it being a die hard fan of the "other chicken place right down the block that starts with a G".... but the chicken I had today from Chicken Rico was hands down bigger, crispier, and tastier. I can't believe I just said that, but its true. I'm sold. Hey, it's even closer to my office.... so I think I'll be coming here more from now on. Hate to be the one to give a bad review but it was just awful. I knew I shouldn't have cheated with Waku Chicken down the street but I thought with everyone's review it would be decent. The chicken just had an overall weird taste and it wasn't seasoned like a Peruvian chicken should be. I'm not sure what seasonings they had but it was not good. The portions were big, however, I didn't even want to eat any more after a few bites. The fries were plain hard as rocks and had that old taste. The yellow sauce was sooo disappointing. It literally tasted like mayo with yellow dye. No seasonings in it at all, it tasted like straight up mayo. Chicken fried rice? Please don't call it fried rice. It's embarrassing. The reviews from before were amazing but maybe they changed owners or chefs or something and now the chicken is not the same. I want to try it again, but I don't want my money to be wasted again.
