Cozy little music venue in the mid city area. I had never been there before but my mom got impromptu tickets to Jourdan Peterson's show. It was a great time! The place was deceptively dead up till just before 9 when things started, and it filled up abruptly and we had to scramble to get a good spot. Seating is limited so if you *need* to sit to enjoy yourself, this may not be the place for you. Or just get there early to claim a table. I didn't try the liquor but I did get a mocktail--a pomegranate ginger beverage from a can. Not bad, but possibly a bit overpriced for being just juice. read more

I absolutely love this music venue. Intimate, friendly, laid back. Interesting mix of music. Warm and efficient staff. Bartenders great. Generous pours, good prices. Free refills on soft drinks. Bathroom clean. They have an attached room that's like a big porch for smokers and yakkers. There's space for standing and a few small tables with stools if you get there early. Dancing encouraged. There is an expectation of the crowd to be respectful when music is playing. I love that. Hate it when people talk during a performance. The sound system is LOUD. I usually wear earplugs because I have tinnitus. Sometimes it's hard to understand the lyrics. Something needs tweaking in the sound system. Easy street parking. read more

Good casual room, good music, but beware the "ticket fees". Went on a Wednesday night to see the great Jon Cleary solo. Bought tickets at the door, only to be told that a 30%+ "fee" would be added to the $25. ticket price. When asked why a fee for tickets sold at the door, the cranky doorman said "What do you want me to do about it? Nobody made you come here." Nice. Ended up with a credit card charge from a Beverly Hills ticketing company for $65.76 for 2 tix. Would have happily spent more money at the bar, but vibe harshed..... read more

Saw a show here and it was amazing. Long island iced tea was strong enough for a man, but PH balanced for a woman. Bar service was quick and no nonsense. Prices are reasonable. Sound was great and there's space in front of the stage for dancing. Come early and grab one of the tables against the wall and nice and close to the stage. Only complaint is getting to the bathroom means crossing in front of the stage so watching people either needing to piss or freshly empty got old pretty quick. read more

Chuckle Wah Wah is one of a handful of iconic NOLA music venues that make New Orleans what it is. They bring in only the best talent. Barkeeps are friendly and know their craft although the bar doesn't seem to have an exotic collection of spirits. Walls are adorned with bills from past shows featuring music royalty over the years. Last year during JazzFest I squeezed into the small Chickie Wah Wahs to catch Jon Cleary, the great Englishman who came to New Orleans and stayed keeping the light shining on New Orleans style piano and vocals. Chickie Wah Wah is small and always slamming with a small stage and a great sound. Great local artists perform there and while there is no food, this is a place to soak in great music. After Cleary played a set he stood up and said he wanted to bring a friend from across the pond to join him and Tom Jones, who was standing a few feet behind me unbeknown to me walked right past me to the small stage where he belted out 5 numbers dedicated to Jerry Lee Lewis who was in the hospital. It's nights like this that make New Orleans magical and a place like Chickie Wah Wah that offers the stage for the magic to happen. read more

Just as i feared the new ownership group appears to have put money/profit over everything. A convenience fee on every "ticket". Can anyone tell me just what that is?? At certain shows all tables and chairs removed which I have to assume is to again increase profit. And now "Reserved" tables for some shows at increased per ticket cost ? WTH?? read more

Went on a Wednesday night. The cover was $27 which I thought was a lot for a casual venue during non-fest time, but hoped it was going to support the band (later found out nope) short set, reasonably priced drinks good selection of wine. Weird light up display listing drinks maybe helpful to bar staff but not supporting the groovy decor. Super short set. read more

Small now famous music club in Mid-City on Canal Street. It was made famous by shows from the Brit transplant Jon Cleary who has become a local legend. The club is a great piano man venue with a nice bar and now a pop-up bbq joint for food. Only drawback for me is that its cash only. read more

Great place for music, but the bar and -0- food is seriously lacking. I have been going here for years and it's seen better days as far as bar service and food goes. They kitchen is "temporarily" closed, for over 2 years now. The kitchen should be rented out to a food truck or other vendor for quick bites, like may Dat Dog or something similar.... On the other hand, and the only reason I go back, is the quality of musicians they secure in this town is definitely some of the BEST talent around. You cannot go wrong to fill your thirsty ear... Another issue here is the length of time to get a drink. They can pack the house and have only one bartender. She's great, but the wait time is a HUGE miss. read more

I've only been there once so take this review with a grain of salt. The staff was absolutely delightful and the band was terrific. I hear they used to have food but don't anymore. They do get food trucks in I'm told. Anyway had a blast there. Probably a 10 min bike ride or less down canal from the FQ. Worth a visit for sure. read more

So being a mid city resident we were extremely happy that this place had opened up again. However this new management is trying to milk us for every penny. A $20 advertised ticket is actually $27.50 because they add tax(ok we understand that one), then a "convenience fee" and also a "credit card fee"! What a lot of whohaw! Next they have decided to offer true cocktails usually with only 2 bartenders. This slows down EVERYTHING and just getting a beer takes 20 minutes. Seriously at least Dale understood his audience. The way it's going now I suspect they will have to close their doors soon because we can't afford to get this nickel and dimed! read more

Fun name, fun place, built-in BBQ. And, except for what comes with the BBQ, no smoke! The layout is well suited to music, drink, and BBQ. Music? Several tables face the stage, and it's not too loud in any spot. Drink? The bar is long, well stocked, and beer served quickly and cold (I think I saw the barkeep pull out frozen glasses). Food? The Blue Oak BBQ stand occupies a corner of the space, and serves up good "21st century bbq"--which means you get a choice of sauces, the sides are MUCH better than the bbq places of old, and the meats are generally higher grade. I've digressed; I need to review Blue Oak separately. Back to the bar...and the music. In our case, Mississippi Rail Company's debut CWW appearance kept us through our dinner and though the whole two sets. The acoustics and electronics were all good, made better by a sound guy in back minding the levels. Past and around the corner from the bandstand is a narrower space where it's a little quieter, serving the same purpose as the patio at Maple Leaf (but still inside). We came looking for food and ended up staying for the music. The cover charge toll keeper doesn't take your money until the music starts, but while the band doing last minute sound checks, a mutually shared "this is gonna be good" glance with my date had me peeling off a twenty in exchange for a wrist stamp. Best Andy J I've dropped in a long time. Did I say "no smoke"? I did! When we got home, no need for a Silkwood shower or to banish our clothes to the special "eeww" hamper. read more

My girlfriend and I went for our first time tonight and our experience was shocking seeing as we didn't make it more than 5 feet from the door before we were confronted by who I'm assuming was the owner/manager who wanted to know if we were there for the show. We told him we came for beer and BBQ and was informed, in a very rude manner, that this was NOT a restaurant, but a music venue with a cover charge, and we would have to take ourselves outside to eat..... WOW. This guy must have failed How to Treat A Customer 101. Still somewhat taken back by how unwelcoming this guy was, we decided to not spend any money on drinks here and instead just ordered BBQ and ate outside. The kicker... when we went to bring our empty BBQ plates back in, we didn't make it inside because he opened the door, took the plates, and shut it before we could step in to see about washing out hands. It's a shame to see places that look like they have great potential literally turn away customers in their tracks because of unfriendly and outright rude management. Won't be back. read more

This is a cool little bar. Mid City is not where I normally hang out. That may need to change, as I have found some nice bars, including this one. This was the location of the last elite event. After the event, some friends and I hung out and watched the band. The stage area is quite small, but there is a large open area for dancing and/or moving rhythmically to the music. There is also an area past the band where you can sit and relax if you aren't into the music. The bathrooms are large and clean, a nice plus for a bar in NOLA. The bar had a good selection of beers and bartenders were friendly and prompt. Next time I am in the area, I will be glad to hang out here again. read more

This is a cool little place to see live music. Some friends and I saw a band here a few weeks ago. The stage area is small, but the sound quality is good, which can be tough in a smaller place. I really like the atmosphere of the place and the way it's decorated with a "kitschy" New Orleans feel. My only complaint is the bar. It's a really long bar, the place gets packed, and there was only one bartender working on a Friday night. It took forever to get served and the poor bartender looked super frazzled (and I couldn't blame him, at all. He was just swamped with customers.). My suggestion would be to add another bartender on Friday nights. Maybe this was a rare night with only one server. Anyway, I would definitely go back, especially since they have Taceaux Loceaux being served in the kitchen. read more

I was back at Chickie Wah Wah this past Saturday because my friend F was raving about the pizza. I had been wanting to try this pizza spot since I found out that Taceaux Loceaux moved to a new location, so when the group decided to go for a drive and grab some pizza, I was excited. We got there and I noticed that there was a cover charge for the bar. My friends just walked in right past the lady collecting the cover and I was one of the two in our group that heard her say, "$8 cover." Luckily for us, she asked if we were there for the music or just to grab some food. We told her we came for the food and she said nothing more. I appreciated this a lot, because she easily could've been like, well, you can't come in here if you're not going to pay the cover. Oh how I love nola and its wonderful, laid-back people. Anyway, there were five of us, and we decided to order a GIANT "Hummer"-size pizza. We went with the Rolls Royce and it pleased every one of us. I had trouble picking up the slice because it was so big. Lol. I would love to try the calzones! read more

Came here to see Pfister Sisters show at 6:30pm on a Thursday night. There was a $5 cover, but I loved the sign that was put on the front door. I liked it so much, I came back Friday night for the 8:00pm performance: Threadhead Fridays w/Paul Sanchez & Friends (the Pfister Sisters highly recommended the show, and I can too). $8 cover. Was a packed house for that show, standing room only. Great beer selection, Draft: Stella Artois, Harp, Gusiness, Abita Wheat, Abita Amber, NOLA Brewing. Bottle (some of them): Abita x6, Sam Adams, Pilsner Urquel, Becks, Newcastle, Bass, Heineken, Harpoon, Booklyn Lager, Anchor Steam, Amstel Light, St. Paulii Gril, Red Stripe, SNPA, Shiner Bock, Woodchick Amber Cider, Port Royal Ehport, Landshark, Dos XX Amber, MGD 6, Rolling rock, Corona, more... Sign on the mirror Thursday for $3 Cajun Iced Tea, it was gone on Friday. So look for specials there. Had the salad for dinner. They fresh-toasted the walnuts! The mixed greens were fresh as could be, the dressing creative and tasty. Friday I had the BBQ served on plate with cornbread, wonderful. I wish I could get a plate like this in Austin for $7. Photo attached. I paid $5 for a Woodchuck cider bottles. A little pricey, but the bargain high quality food makes up for it. Kitchen looks great, stage is great... I love the Neon Trojan condom sign to point way to the bathroom. Sign says they take Visa/MC on the front door. Took my CC to open a tab. Allowed me to put food items on the same tab (asked nicely). Non-smoking, which is pretty rare in NOLA. There is a courtyard out the center of the building and a few tables out front that smokers can access. This is a great little place for live music with a good variety of snacks. Their brussels are amazing. Nachos are delish. Drinks are pretty inexpensive. Only note is to always check to see if they're open before you head out. Have been disappointed twice. Expect to pay a cover, but it's not usually too high, and it pays for great local music. read more

Three months after my trip to New Orleans, I am still thinking about Chickie Wah Wah's pizza. I shared the crawfish pizza and the arugula salad. The arugula salad was well-seasoned and good. The crawfish pizza was delicious - the perfect blend of cheesiness, spices, with a robust but not too substantial crust. I've eaten my share of great pizza from New York and New Haven (Pepe's!) and this ranks right up there with the best. The only reason this is a four and not five star rating is because the night I went, the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Empty except myself and my friend and the trio of performers onstage, though judging from the other reviews, must have just been an off night. read more

Returning to New Orleans after many years away (sorry, doll!) - I had heard Chickie Wah Wah mentioned many times on the WWOZ calendar and thought it was a great name, with lots of great acts. The evening we arrived, I dragged my friend (not entirely unwillingly after two large drinks at Deanie's in the Quarter) up to see The Iguanas at Chickie Wah Wah. At first we thought we were at the wrong place - it didn't seem very busy but the band took the stage and we were very happy to be there. The Iguanas rocked the house and were joined by the subdudes frontman (even the drummer showed up to chit chat!). The interior of this bar is incredibly well done - it's not over-the-top but it is clear that someone put a lot of thought into a tasteful, fun but still casual atmosphere (without turning it into TGI Friday's). The bathrooms are awesome! The acoustics are great, the selection of beer and the bar service are also great. Plenty of little tables and you might even find a cute girl to dance with you if you give her a wink and a smile.... go check it out! read more

I forgot to review the last time I came here last month. I have been raving about the taco's and great music venue to a friend who lives nearby. I finally got the opportunity to take her here and the taco's are gone!! GASP!! No one had mentioned it on Yelp yet and I was heart broken. We split an asian peanut noodle dish since it was like $10 or something. It was pretty good but hard to shake my craving for those tacos. I liked the fresh veggies in the noodles and the thick sauce. I'll have to come back without the MUST HAVE TACOS mentality and check out the pizza's other reviewers mentioned. read more

I found this place on a google search while planning my 5 days in New Orleans and what a great find it was. I wanted to catch some live music in the afternoon before we took a break before dinner and Chickie Wah Wah did not disappoint. The performer that day was't really my style but extremely talented none the less. I had a gin martini and the bartend made it perfect. The drinks are cheap and the BBQ was hearty (I had to try some, even though I was headed to dinner in a bit). Our group really enjoyed this place, some of us smoked on the patio with their drinks while the live music was on speaker out there. That Yelp would select this place to host its Yelp Elite holiday party pretty much says it all. This is a neat little space with a full stocked bar and a stage area for live music. There is an adjacent lounge that is pretty nice too. Plenty of tables to sit at. When I was there the flat screens above the bar were running a video of books about bears being burned slowly in a fireplace. The thing I particularly liked about this place was the noise level. You can hear yourself have a conversation here. No background music or distracting noise to drown out your thoughts. But the night I was here the place was rented out for a private function, so I can't speak to how this place is on a normal night. read more

This funky space boasts a bar on one side and their in-house bar food partner, Blue Oak BBQ on the other. Lots of hi-boy table seating and a stage that offers wrap around viewing! There is a covered patio adjacent to the space for smoking and generally the cover for shows is under $10. Bar prices tend to be on the higher side than most Midcity watering holes, so prepare for that so you don't experience sticker shock closing your tab. read more
