Used to be a cash only bar and now does credit cards. It can get very popular for football games. They are now serving food here via popups and have some decent bar grub burgers and related victuals at popups. Thankfully they have gone non-smoking and that has certainly improved my experience of this old joint. For such an old school place they have maintained it very well so it doesn't have the typical grungy grime that most old dives do in NOLA. Used to be a generally nice spot to grab a cheaper drink in a classic NOLA bar but now the cheapest beers are $5... So $120 for a case of beer that you can get in the grocery for under $20 usually so like a 500% markup! This is yet another of the bars that, claims the notoriety of having had Lee Harvey Oswald as a frequent customer. Watch out as FU Lonnie is often found in this area and that takes a lot of Tito's. read more

a great place for karaoke and cheap drinks. lots of songs to choose - from 00s pop to 80s indie??? and Chappell roan). karaoke dj puts the decent in half decent (since that's what his company goes by) when he's in a good mood. always a fun time. the bartenders sing well. the dj is also ok when he's not hoarding the mic and cutting people off mid-song. someone did once yell "the dj is mediocre!" and the dj took it like a champ. fun crowd. read more

Very average uptown neighborhood dive bar. Sure you can get a cold beer served by a bartender with attitude, but in spite of what earlier reviewers or the note from the owner on their Yelp page says (see screenshot below), they do NOT have "poor boys, gourmet burgers, chicken sandwiches" or food of any kind, unless there happens to be a pop up on the sidewalk. I've never been more appalled with a bartender and lack of service. I came in with a large group and a bartender in an LSU shirt with glasses yelled at the group regarding having IDs out. When we gave him our IDs he proceeds to make passive aggressive comments about how we should know better to to have our IDs out in any bar. Almost immediately after checking our ID he says " are you going to order anything or just sit at a bar without a drink". I was so appalled by this because I had not even gotten a chance to see a drink menu, what's on tap, or even had a proper introduction to this bartender. He proceeded to talk to other patrons about how we were "weird" because we had not ordered a drink (mind you we had not even looked at the menu). Me and my group of 7 customers left and gladly spent our money at another establishment. If you are looking for a high-class establishment, I would not recommend coming here. Down the street there's an amazing bar called Le Bon Temps Roule that had amazing service. I recommend going there instead. read more

Solid spot on Magazine to pop in for a reasonably priced drink or beer. They have a juke box and some outdoor seating, and lately they have some pretty great food pop ups, too. Restrooms are always clean (a huge plus). And they put out candy - the good stuff- for bar snacks! I know they have karaoke at night, but I always seem to end up here in the daytime. read more

Great neighborhood bar that currently has one of the best chefs in the city running the kitchen. We had the burger which is char-grilled and excellent as well as the bang bang shrimp which is actually better than the original at Bone Fish Grill. My friends and I have been visiting New Orleans annually for 30+ years. We love it so much. This year we opted to stay in the Uptown area along Magazine Street, and we looked forward to exploring the neighborhood and trying new places. Henry's Uptown Bar looked like a classic old-man bar that could become our local favorite as our seven friends arrived one by one. On our first afternoon we stopped in to ask if they served food. The bartender was brusque and said no, only tapas on certain days. We thanked him and went on in search of some lunch. We had just flown in. Later we returned with another of our friends and we ordered margaritas to celebrate our first day back in New Orleans. Our friend said, "let's get a pitcher!" The bartender, Bill, looked appalled at us and hissed in an arrogant, petulant voice, "I am NOT a Mexican restaurant!" From then on he was 100% rude, and for no other reason than his own pomposity. He ignored us and sat down low behind the bar, watching a Yankees game on one of the big TVs. Forget about this place. We thought it might become our nightly spot for a couple of weeks, but after that experience we never went back. And never will. Bill is the worst bartender we've ever met in our lives. What a creep, and what a disgrace to the traditional gracious hospitality of the great city of New Orleans. read more

It may have taken me a few visits, but I would now classify myself as a fan of Henry's. In the world of dive bars, it may not be the diveyest, but it should be put into your rotation. I am a big fan of the dive genre of bar. Something about the cheap prices, friendly bartenders and no pretentious attitude. Henry's fits that bill nicely, but it may be too classy to be a five star dive. My first visit to Henry's was a little confusing. Apparently they are not open 24 hours, and I arrived around closing time. Because of that, I wasn't able to get the full experience. When I came back earlier a different day, I was able to understand why it is so popular. The bartender (Erica maybe?) was very friendly. She really did a great job of making me feel welcome. I sat in the main bar area, but there were also several tables where one could sit with a group. I noticed they serve food which I didn't try, but is a great idea for a dive bar. If you're in the uptown area and want a friendly, neighborhood bar, give Henry's a try. read more

Nice neighborhood place. I've been here several times. CASH ONLY! They have an ATM. They have a Sangria special, but it's mostly a shot and beer place. Domestic bottles are 2 bucks opening till 7pm for happy hour, then goes up to $2.50. Great price for nola. Small place, couple of tables. Outside tables. Game room in back, carry out food adjoining. (Big Cheesy) WARNING!! Men's room is tiny.. my shoulders almost touch the walls. There is a sink to wash your hands when you come out of the washroom and walk behind the bar. But, seeing as how it's been open in the same spot since 1900, understandable. Also, the same family has owned it since then (4 generations)!! When I want to watch some sports, have some beers, shoot the shit with neighborhood folks, I come here. I havent seen too many tourists in here, even though it's on Magazine. I may be biased because this bar is so close to my house, but I moved here pretty recently and this bar was exactly what I had in mind when I imagined living on the bar-laden Magazine St. Within about 10 minutes of walking in I had met the hilarious bartender, who yelled at the owner to stop whatever he was doing to come over and meet me. Then the owner started telling me the history of the bar, how his great-grandfather opened it up in 1900 and part of the actual bar that we were sitting at was from that time. Then they started telling me how much fun this place was on Mardi Gras and the bartender bought me a drink. It was like a huge family - everyone knew everyone else and they were very welcoming to a newcomer like myself. They have a few TV's inside and always show Saints and LSU games. It is smoking but it wasn't too bad when I was there (on an early Thursday night). There are a few tables to sit outside and they only take cash but there is an ATM inside. The jukebox was playing old Hank Williams Jr and Johnny Cash. The clientele included 20-somethings to 60-somethings. They do serve food and the hot wings and quesadillas are delicious; they claim they have great burgers but I haven't tried one yet. It's a true dive bar but not in that hipster-y, 'I go here because it's a dive bar' sense. The staff and patrons are friendly and welcoming and aren't trying to prove anything because they don't need to. I'll definitely be a regular here. read more

Henry's is my go-to bar, and my favorite of all time. Cozy vibes, amazing bartenders (Joe, Jordan, and Bill don't miss) and affordable drinks. As a bonus, there are food pop-ups that come occasionally, clean bathrooms, trivia on Wednesdays, and karaoke on Fridays. As a bonus to the bonus, they're open for Mardi Gras parades and the perfect spot to hang. There's a reason I spend so much time here. read more

Henry's is very much a neighborhood bar and a pretty cool one at that. I joined some new friends there for happy hour on Friday and everyone seemed to know each other, and even the neighborhood dogs were welcome inside. The happy hour prices were cheap, and even when happy hour ended, I still found the prices to be more than reasonable. It reminded me of the bars I used to frequent in college - minus the college kid crowd. I really appreciated that it is a smoke free bar and enjoyed the tunes flowing from the jukebox. I'd definitely come back. With the parades about to start up, it especially seems like a really good place to hang out pre-parade too. read more

I wanted to add my take on this place. If your catching a parade on Magazine, there is NO BETTER place to see it than at or near this bar. First of all, the prices are good, they have some draft and alot of the bottled favorites so I dont have to always worry about packing an ice chest or worry about running out of beer if I do bring one. Just a quick walk here and that problem is solved. No. 2 is about no. 1. For the parades, they are nice enough to put a few port o lets outside! Fantastic. This is not a common sight for New Orleans parades anymore. I think they encourage peeing yourself or getting caught by cops going wee wee by a car. There is a DJ outside that will strike up a line dance on occasion. On a non carnival time of year, this is still a cool place to visit, though there isnt another bar reasonably close by like to take the walk, so it is a little out of the way. I havent tried the food yet but does smell good when I pass by. read more

"If you lived at Henry's, you'd be home by now." This quote that decorates the wall at this old local uptown tavern describes the atmosphere at Henry's on any given night. The folks who frequent the bar do seem to live there, with ages ranging from 21-92 years old. It's not uncommon for the multi-genarational patrons to be intermingled among the bar stools, ranting about whatever sports game is on at the time. I love this place for their ridiculously cheap drinks (Due to recession, beers went up from $1.75 to $2) and the local vibe. Come by for the LSU v Tulane wheelbarrow race where the football game's losing team fans push the winners around the block via a well decorated wheelbarrows (the Tulane fans have some sore backs...). My favorite dialogue I overheard while there was between a woman in her twenties and an 80 yr old man: -woman, "Charlie, i need to bring you back to the old folks home before curfew, we have to go right now." -old man, "Don't get me wrong pretty lady, I'd love to go home with you, but we ain't leavin just yet." This is a really cool bar, even if it is a little out of the way. First of all, I don't know if I would refer to this bar as a "dive" bar. To me, a dive bar is a different animal entirely, but maybe that's just me. This is a nice little neighborhood bar full of friendly people and personable staff. When I first stopped in here, I was surprised to see how big it is on the inside. Visiting Henry's was a highlight of my trip to New Orleans in 2012. A friend and I stopped in while strolling down Magazine and we had such an awesome time. This is an old-school neighborhood bar with friendly bar tenders, regulars, and--perhaps most importantly--cheap drinks! I don't think we paid less for beer anywhere else in the city. For a touristy city like New Orleans, Henry's is about as off the beaten path as you can get. We sat at the bar with a few NOPD cops, a local businessman, and the bar tender was a life-long resident of the area. I've never had a friendlier bar tender in my life and we learned so much about New Orleans from him. When our older cab driver picked us up to take us back to the French Quarter, he talked about how he would go there as a kid in the 1960s. Henry's is a treasure and I hope it's still around in my old age. read more

Henry's is one of my favorite neighborhood bars to watch a game. Lots of regulars and cash only bar as a few other reviews indicated. There are very few places in New Orleans where you can get a beer for $2.50. The bartenders have always been friendly and like to make conversation. Gourmet grill cheese's are just steps away in the same building at the Big Cheesy, which are also recommended. Many of the Yelp pictures for Henry's have food but from my understanding they shut their kitchen down a few years back. Oh my, where to start. Was walking down the street and happened upon this bar with my significant other and figured why not try it. Walked in and a couple people were scattered throughout the bar but no employee to be found. A few minutes pass a younger girl came to attend but didnt seem to care much. We ordered a whiskey sour and a whiskey and coke both singles let me mind you and it came out to almost 22.00 and they were super small. The whiskey sour had so much sour mix in it I felt like I was I got smacked the mouth with the flavor and like a minuscule pebble drop of whiskey in it. Had to order a whole nother $6.00 shot of whiskey to finish it. The vibe was so weird in the bar, no music, nobody seemed to care and it was so dull in there, wow. Went there early on a Saturday morning to watch Indiana win a NIT game. Not a big place and in the process of changing food handlers. 3 TVs 4 tables and stools at the bar. Great history of the place, owner was super proud and friendly. Sent us down the street to get some of the best sandwiches in the neighborhood. Brought them back and continued to enjoy the bar.
