Wonderful staff and caring Doctors, they always get me in when I have a problem. Extremely helpful and careful in their care.

Wasn't sure after all the negative reviews but, my experience was seamless. Was called back I think a bit before my appointment time. Intake lady was great, thorough. Doctor Gilbert was prompt and gave me attention that was lacking at 2 previous places. He seemed to care about my issues, we discussed a couple of treatment options and put me on a 1 month therapy program to address my dry eyes diagnosed only after having cataract surgery at another business. Prior to that surgery I was told my eyes were healthy with no issues. The dry eyes became the reason given for my cataract surgery being less than successful. We have been coming here for about 20 years. The last couple of times we've come in our prescriptions have been way off for our glasses. We ended up going to another provider who corrected the prescription. I don't like giving negative reviews. Their new facility is not user-friendly. The lobby is huge and cold. The pod is extremely small and the extra benches are not comfortable. It is now so far out of town for us that will be going to a new provider. read more

The staff at Chico Eye Center are always so helpful and nice! I have been a patient here for several years and have always had a great experience. Dr.Liston is such an amazing doctor and Chico is lucky to have him. He has helped me tremendously and I am forever thankful. My entire family sees him. I refer many of my friends to Dr.Liston and they all love him. I encountered only one issue with billing out of my several appointments. The staff was very helpful and fixed it. Really like Dr. R and the staff who did the preliminary eye test, but the optometry center is really difficult to get through. Not only are they super busy every time I'm in there, but I feel a hard sell to add things to my glasses that I don't want/need/can't afford. Despite multiple times saying, "I only need these glasses for reading, and only one night a week as I pull out my contacts," the gal kept pressuring me over the phone. "Now is that REALLY what you want?" "Yes. I'm not going to spend $450 on glasses, I just need to read on the nights I pull out my contacts." "But if there's every an emergency and you need to drive without them (and then a lonnnnngggg explanation of all the reasons getting the simpler Rx would be a problem...)" (I explain I'm far sighted and can drive with my current glasses) "But is that what you really want? I mean, your insurance covers line bifocals but those are the kind that old people usually wear, and they take some getting used to..." (Long explanation ensues) "Really, please just tell me what it would cost to get the basic pair..." "Well you know you won't be able to work at a computer with these glasses, is that what you want?" Please save yourself the time & frustration of dealing with their McDonald's type of service. The eye exam wasn't the bad part, when it came time to order my glasses is when the trouble began. The ordering techs don't have a clue what the heck they are doing. Their in house lab is a joke, sent my glasses back 3 times!!! I have good insurance & still paid over 1000$ for readers & sunglasses. Was so frustrated after the Mickey Mouse job they did on my Sunglasses, I demanded a refund. Ended up going to Costco Optical, they got it right the 1st try. read more

I am stuck in Chico during the COVID-19 crisis. I had eye emergency and they were able to get me in the office. I've seen many eye professionals in my time and this visit was the best I ever had. The staff was very friendly and informative - especially with the process of taking temperatures and exercising extra procedures during the lock-down. The eye appointment with the doctor and the assistant was superb. I have never been explained and walked through the procedure as I had with this group. I felt informed and educated when I left. If I lived here this group would be my eye doctor. read more

I'm done with these guys. My wife and I had appointments, scheduled 10 minutes apart, for annual eye check-ups and ordering new glasses. It took 3 HOURS to get through the process of intake, health survey, brief eye check, dilation and glaucoma check, and selecting frames. My wife waited 40 minutes longer than me to be seen by anyone. And after application of insurance deductions, our two pairs of glasses still cost over $1,000. Nothing about this clinic makes their clumsy, disorganized operation worth the wait and the cost. I spent at most 5 minutes with the doctor. Most of the rest of our time there was spent watching countless employees milling around apparently not accomplishing much. The overhead here is huge, and you get to pay for their bloated inefficiency with premium prices for pretty ordinary merchandise. No one needs to spend this kind of money for eyewear and cattle feedlot treatment. There are too many better choices out there. read more

It took 3 days to get someone to call me back to make an appointment. My appointment was then over 2 hours long. I was given trial lenses and told to call them back and give feedback to finalize my prescription. 3 calls later and nothing. I am about to run out of contacts. This is the absolute worst place to go. Once I receive this prescription I am never going back. read more

I love the doctors and assistants, but the clerical staff are very disorganized. I've had difficulty getting a return call on several occasions. I came here for an opthalmologist, not an optometrist, so I can't comment on their optometry services or doctors. Dr. Warne (the opthalmologist) is amazing. I'm a unique patient, and no one's ever really been able to help me much, but Dr. Warne didn't give up on me. Now I can see better than I've ever seen, I don't get migraines every day, and my eyes aren't suffocating beneath my contacts. Every opthalmologist should care about their patient's comfort and quality of life like Dr. Warne does, but he's the only one I've met who has cared enough to try over and over until we got a pair of contacts that was just right. Thank you, thank you, thank you, forever. Tip: if you don't want to wait, schedule appts at the South center not the main office. Also, yes, the receptionists and office staff can be rude. In fact they were always rude to me... Doesn't mean the doctors are, though, and that's who matters. read more

Great Eye Center. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I got a nice pair of sunglasses at their recent trunk show.

For years we have patronized this center in the event at some future time we would need an eye surgeon. But, after this last visit we are at our wits end. The lack of organization for scheduling is disrespectful to the patient. To arrive slightly early for an appointment and then wait another 1 hour and 10 minutes and still left waiting to see the doctor, is rude and unforgivable. Either staff is being told to "over-schedule" or someone needs retraining in both appointment scheduling and the treatment of patients. read more

Terrible terrible terrible customer service!!!!! They make EVERYTHING soooo complicated!!! I have three children under the age of 13 (including a toddler) my husband and I both work full time and my parents (are blessings) they help us with the kids daily; my dad drove 44 minutes to get my son to hi appointment and then they refused to give him his prescription. I had to personally go in and get it before work on a weekday!!! I understand privacy policies can but he brought him to the appointment and checked him in!!!! Then my father took him to have his PD measure and they would not give it to him!!!!!!! They said it's for their records. Uhm. What?!? No. I get it every time my son gets a new prescription I have them measure his PD because he breaks them! He's a 12 year old boy! We order them online and there is nothing wrong with that! AND there are more options and variety. Anyways, I called a week ago and asked them to mail it to Me. Nothing. I called again yesterday (they never answer btw you HAVE to leave a message and hope that they get back to you) I asked them to fax it to me since they cannot email.... they called me back today to confirm the fax number. I NEVER GOT IT!!!!! I called AGAIN tonight and left ANOTHER message WITH my fax number. My son has not had glasses for two weeks! Now I am still waiting on them AND I will have to wait for glasses once I order them (if I ever get the prescription) Not to mention the S****y attitudes from the girls at the front desk. Needless to say, I will never go back there and unless you have the patience of a saint and all the time in the world, I would not recommend you go there either. read more

Extremely long wait times. I went here for LASIK procedure and I would not recommend this business. My first appointment (consultation) was 2.5 hours long with long wait times. My second appointment (pre-op), I waited 1.5 hr until I was seen. During my LASIK procedure, the machine they used was not working properly and caused immense pain and trauma to my eye. For my post-op appointment, I waited an 1.5 hour to be seen. Nice staff, but unprofessional. Every time I was in the waiting room, I would hear the nurse say "I'm sorry for the long wait" to each patient they would bring in. I heard nurses and office staff complaining about not getting their breaks on time. Nurses would forget certain procedures and have me wait for a long time to re-do a test. Extremely disappointed in this business and would not recommend for any procedure, operation, or testing. read more

I went in almost a month ago to pick out glasses with the prescription I had received from them. The glasses came in after almost three weeks, and then sent back because they were flawed. I was told that the new ones would be in quickly, but waited about another week. Went in today and found I could not read with the glasses. Spent almost two hours having my eyes checked again only to discover that they botched my original prescription. So back to optical now only to be told that it will take several more weeks to get them in. Nice people. Stunning incompetence. read more

My mother was once a patient of Dr. Pablo M Arregui. About a year and a half ago, Arregui's office called my mom to let her know it was time for her annual check-up. During this check-up, Arregui told my mother she needed to have cataract surgery. Arregui ultimately performed cataract surgery on both of her eyes. One of her eyes was damaged during that cataract surgery, and she now has one blurry eye - which cannot be repaired. When I took my mother to Arregui to discuss her blurry eye - he was rude, dismissive, egotistical and failed to take any responsibility whatsoever. The fact is, before the surgery my mother did not have blurry vision of any degree. Immediately following the surgery, she experienced significant blurry vission in one eye. That surgery took place over a year ago, and her vision has not, and will not, improve. Ever. My aunt then referred my mother to Dr. Stabel (530) 892-4815, who was kind, compassionate and thorough in his exam. Unfortunately, there is no remedy for the damage my mother incurred during the cataract surgery, but at least now she has a very kind and professional doctor - who must have missed Arrogance101 in his first year of medical school. Don't do it !!!!!!!! Now I am out over $600!! The short and sweet of it is, Dr. Houlihan gave me a wrong prescription after checking my eyes for, literally, 60 seconds. When I got my glasses, needless to say they did not work well. I spoke with them about it and they encouraged me to just keep waiting and let my eyes get used to the new glasses. When I finally could not take it anymore I came back and got reexamined, and sure enough, Dr. Houlihan had written me an incorrect prescription. However, they told me that because I waited, that I am no longer covered for them to replace my lenses with the correct prescription. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was informed that she is someone who lives back East. So the owner is not local, could care less about people in our community. The store could not even contact the owner via any other way besides emailing. So I am still waiting for a response back... But not holding my breath, just moving on (after venting on this review, of course ) I wish I could give zero Stars. Now I know, firsthand, why this place got such bad reviews. And to the big sloth who was so aloof towards me, I hope you and your family get to experience the same thing in a different situation. read more

BE CAREFUL....These people try to trick you into giving them your credit card number under the pretense of "checking in". They are also unclear when discussing the costs of services. Surprise charges can add up. Also, one pair of glasses are included in Medicare for the procedure I had done but these people will not bill Medicare for the glasses. I think that they should explain the charges better and that they should bill Medicare for glasses. read more

I've been going to Chico Eye care for a few years and had average service. Generally a wait time but that seems to be the way they book at all medical places. This time however, they really messed up. We went to the Paradise location and both my kids were given photo glaucoma exams that were not covered by insurance and were not approved by me. Now they want to bill for these exams without ever having asked permission or having any health history or other health reason to take this 'non-covered' tests. Then they said my daughter's glasses were 'optional'. Meaning her eye sight was border line on whether she needed glasses or not. So she opted to get glasses before going away to college. It took us 3 separate trips to Chico to make the purchase because the billing clerk at the Paradise office had 'locked' my insurance account in the billing process and no other optical shop could access the record! I'm done with the Paradise location. read more

What a wonderful experience for the whole family. Going to the Dr is never fun, especially when in pain but Chico Eye Center Team and Dr. Sean Liston were great! I called regarding a corneal abrasion and I was given an emergency appointment within the hour. My wait in office was under 10 min and the chairs were very comfortable. The office has a lovely collection of art, a TV, Magazines and toys for the kids. The Doctor validated, listened and treated me with exceptional care. Thank you Dr Liston and the entire Chico Eye Center Team. I fully recommend you. *Addition: Dr. Liston also examined my 4yr old daughter for glasses. He was kind and patient with her. I could tell he was a Dad. There were no tears only smiles :) Her glasses fitting went equally as smooth. The technician even went out of her way to find a pink glasses case and everyone gave my daughter compliments on her new glasses- a real help when it was hard to keep them on her. The glasses were ready to pick-up within 3 days due to the fact they have an in house lab. Thank you for treating my little girl so kindly and being so professional. read more

I saw some of the bad reviews but went ahead and tried Chico Eye Center anyway...I had broken my glasses and needed to get in for an eye exam quickly to get new glasses and they had the ability to get me in that day. 1- They were nice on the phone and helpful (other reviews said they had been rude). 2- Heidi was my doc and she was great! 3- They called me the next day to tell me my glasses were ready even though they told me it could be up to two weeks (Saw reviews that said there were issues getting glasses in a reasonable time frame). Please note that I DID NOT ask for expedited production. 4- Reviews said they were expensive - My glasses were expensive because I have a knack for picking out the most expensive things. There were plenty of lower priced options but I was the reason my glasses were expensive because I wanted my favorite frames (I could have gotten out of there for half the price easily and still been happy with my second favorite choice) I own a business and understand that there are times where you get employees that are not up to par or have systems that are broken and you do need to make corrections as you identify breakdowns in your processes and personnel...It appears that if there were issues in the past (even the recent past) they have since corrected said issues. I went for an eye exam for my prescription to get new glasses. Cost me $342. That did not include glasses. I also had to pay $28 for their brand if eyedrops which di not work any better than other drops. They sent me out of there with dilated eyes, with no protection from the blaring sun for my eyes. Save your money, go somewhere else that is less expensive and cares about your eyes, not your pocket book. read more

From the greeting we received on our first visit to subsequent visits, I have been blown away by the awesomeness of the staff here. The first lady who had to dilate my sons eyes was SUPER patient and worked with my son amidst the tears and screaming. Then we met the Dr who was super cool and answered my questions as I've never worn glasses so I don't know what my son would be going through. He explained what the procedures were for, and what kind of glasses my son would need and why. He also gave us a plan to help improve my son's vision for the next visit 3 months later. So 3 months later and we return for our check up. GREAT NEWS! My sons vision has improved but not enough that he doesn't need glasses. No Biggie but then I realize "Uh oh, I'm gunna have to shell out a few hundred dollars to get new lenses and frames." Here comes Alex to the rescue. She says it may take a few minutes but she might be able to get the insurance company to cover a 2nd set of lenses and frames because it's been such a drastic change in his Rx for lenses. So off she goes and about 20 minutes later, has the info and she was able to get insurance to cover the new frames and lenses. Hallelujah!!!! As I said in the beginning, From start until now, Chico Eye center has been phenomenal and I'd recommend them to ANYONE needed glasses or an eye doctor in the chico area! read more

I am 66 years old and Chico Eye Center without a doubt is the worst customer service that I have ever received from a doctor's office! I had an eye exam back in June of 2022. The doctor prescribed me my contacts but wanted me to do a trial pair first. So I received the trial pair and was quite happy, however when I asked them to go ahead and place an order for the one year supply, they told me that they could not get them. I'm like what do you mean you can't get them, you already got me the trial pair!!! Well this went on for almost 6 months! I finally went in and got a copy of my prescription and was able to order them online right away. If I could get them why couldn't Chico Eye Center??? I think that they have gotten to big for their britches and don't really care about their customers anymore!! Their main focus seems to be in cataract surgery. There must be big money in that! Believe me greed is not good and word of mouth can be very harming to a big company!! read more

After more years there than I can remember, we are done! Finished! If i could give this 0 stars, I would. Making appointments is easy. Reminders are fine. Morning appointments *can* be ok, if you're lucky. Make any appointment past 2pm and you're screwed. Bring food, as plan on being there until 4:30 or even 5:00pm. My husband had a later in the day appointment and he didn't arrive home until dinner time! Then they ask hey want to get glasses now? Ummm no, I'm hungry you say. They overbook. Their optical area is always crowded. Most of the employees there are rude, as they just can't be bothered to help you choose frames. Then, when the overpriced glasses do arrive, they are either- 1. The wrong strength yet they tell you they are correct. When they finally realize that you are correct, they send them back and you have to wait another 2 weeks! 2. Did I say way overpriced, even with insurance?? 3. Rude when ever there is a problem. No apologies on their part. You are wrong. They are right. 4. When I finally had it, I completed the 5 pieces of paperwork, one for each person in my family, who have given this business countless amounts of my money, and not ONE person working there asked why I was leaving!! Not one! This was on Dec 21, 2017. 5. Knowing one of My kids had an appointment at the new amazing place where we will all now go, I thought I should call Chico Eye Center to make sure they sent over the records. (1/3/18). BIG SURPRISE!!!! They had not sent them! Luckily, after calling again, they faxed enough over for my son's appointment today at North Valley Eye Care. There will be nothing that I will miss about this place. Nothing! I'm just sorry I didn't make the switch sooner. read more

I've been a patient at Chico Eye Center for a long time and I've always had great experiences there. From Billing to the assistants and especially Dr. Rocchi, I've always received quality service. I've been to other office nearby and I've always felt like cattle being prodded along the line BUT NEVER at Chico Eye Center. Some people here complaining about prices for glasses...Well no duh sherlock. If you're buying premium brands like Ray Ban, Versace and Gucci OF COURSE you're going to pay extra..One of the main reasons I come here is because I can find upscale eyewear... But they also have other brands to accommodate all budgets. I've always had great personable service and that's why I love coming here. It's no wonder why they always win Best of Chico! read more

If you are a senior, be aware that they focus on cataract surgery and the moula it provides. The fine print says that if you are going to go with monovision lens, in which theoretically you should be able to be to see near and far without glasses, you may need glasses anyway. But what was verbally promised was that this was a no-brainer. Well, what happened was that my near and far vision was less than perfect, I would need glasses for close up, which was my primary goal, since I am an avid reader. Dr offered to put a "piggyback" lens in to correct the imperfection. Didn't work and, while it has gotten better after a few years, it left me with an occasional golden ring in my visual field. To this day I cannot focus quickly enough to read text on my TV and I am usually a quick reader. Please seek a different provider. I wish I could give a 0 rating. read more

I saw one of the doctors here last year for an eye infection. I am due for an eye exam so I scheduled with them. I entered my insurance information on the check in forms that they send you on line, then went to my appointment and again handed the receptionist my insurance card. The doctor I was scheduled to see was in surgery so my appointment needed to be rescheduled. Ok, no big deal, it happens. Go back again today for my rescheduled appointment, hand the receptionist my insurance card and she tells me that they are out of network for my vision insurance so they could bill my medical but it likely won't go through (it actually wouldn't at all) or I could pay out of pocket. Keep in mind this is the third time I have given my insurance information yet it's the very first time that I've heard this. So upsetting that I took time of work twice to make an appointment that could have - both times - been better handled. Never going back here. The doctors my be great, but the front of house is way too unorganized and clearly customer service is not their strong suit. read more
