I had my eyes dilated yesterday and was a nervous wreck because i had been having some problems. I really dont like dilation and j never had the numbing drops before either which was a weird sensation.I wish they had the machine that takes a picture of the eye. Optometry Center appears to have gone downhill. Technicians are rude and unhelpful and after upselling me an expensive pair of prescription sunglasses with supposedly an excellent warranty and company that stands behind their glasses, turns out they don't stand behind anything. The glasses and lenses are cracking with normal wear and both the company and Chico Eye Center don't have the integrity to replace the glasses. I'll shop elsewhere in the future. read more

Made an appointment over the phone and received a courtesy call the day before, which is always nice. When I got there to check in, however, I had to wait about 15 to 20 minutes to be taken back by a nurse...she did her tests, etc, and then I was brought into another waiting room and had to wait another 15 minutes or so for the doctor. Overall, a nice office and good experience, but I was getting a bit impatient having to sit around and wait all this time (I mean, I figured appointments exist to make time a bit more smooth, no?!). Either way, I was satisfied with my experience w/ the doctor. I had Dr. Marina Brocchi (?) and she was excellent! Afterwards, they tried to get me into their sales room to pick out glasses, but I opted to not do that because my pupils were dilated and I couldn't see...took my prescription and left, but returned a few days later because they did have the best deal on glasses. The sales person who helped me (young, attractive blonde) was very quick, friendly, and awesome. I'd recommend them to others; however, I do caution you that you'll be WAITING quite a bit (and if anyone at Chico Eye Center is reading this, its something you need to work on!!!!) read more

I am really disappointed in this place. I feel like I was misled and given incorrect information. When I called their billing customer service to ask questions, I was given a very harsh response. When I said I didn't not understand and asked for further explanation, I was told, "I am explaining it to you as it is...I don't know how to tell you." I then went on to explain that I didn't understand the "lingo" of what was going on, she condescendingly continued to not further explain herself. I'm really conflicted about this place. The location is convenient, but the parking is a nightmare. The office is beautiful and modern. I really feel the doctors know what they're doing. However....I took my 5 year old daughter for an eye exam and we were there for 2 hours! We waited 25 mins before even being taken back for the pre exam, then waited another 45 mins to see the doc. The doctor did very well with my daughter (it's hard to do an eye exam on a 5 year old) which is why we went here on a recommendation from another parent. They said they're really busy. Unh hunh. I see that! Maybe they are overbooking. I like them, but because of the wait times, I'll have to keep looking for another eye doctor for my daughter. read more

I have used these folks several times and always had good results. Doctors are great, staff is friendly If you use their in house lab for lenses the turn around time is next to nothing. Just recently mangled my glasses. (I thought they were beyond repair!) Went in to look for a new pair of frames and the woman who walked up to help me(Lavonne) offered to try fixing my twisted pair. It took 10-15 minutes, quite a bit of untwisting and replacement of a part, and I swear they are as good as new. NO CHARGE!!! Sorry some of you haven't had the same results. Was initially pretty happy with my care here. Okay staff, good doctor. Contacts were way too expensive, but I order online anyway. My insurance only allows me to see the eye doctor eye other year and my last doctor naturally wrote a 2 year prescription as my vision has not changed in seven years. I went to refill my prescription last week, and this offer won't allow me to because my prescription was 1 year and 3 days old. I'm 9 months and 3 days pregnant, but they're not willing willing to send a trial or let me refill my prescription to last another month. Now I AM WADDLING into the walmart eye doctor and hoping I don't have a baby in the chair. They were rude, pushy, unpleasant. When I said calmly, "I am going to put this on yelp. I'm really concerned you don't want to help more given my situation." She said, "I am ONLY TRYING TO HELP YOU! I'VE DONE EVERYTHING!" No, you haven't. The only reason I keep coming here (W. East Ave. location) is because of the doctors: mine is great at monitoring my eye pressure and difficult prescription, and my husband and young son like their eye doctor as well. The doctors are kind, patient, and knowledgeable. However, I am fed up with the disorganization and, occasionally, the snippy tone I have repeatedly encountered in this office. One time, I showed up for an appointment that was on my calendar and for which I'd received a reminder call, but they said I had no appointment scheduled that day. I showed the receptionist the incoming number on my phone but she still said it was "impossible" for that to happen. So I had to reschedule. Some of the optical center's clerks are flat-out rude. Just one of several examples: I was told by the doctor that I could exchange my glasses because I was within the allowed time limit, but the optical staff argued the point. Now I get my prescription filled at Costco - much cheaper, good quality, and no "attitude." The last time I was in, I had a series of tests relating to glaucoma and was escorted into a room for an additional test the doctor had ordered, only to have us "kicked out" by another technician who said the room had apparently been double-booked. I offered to wait but was denied. Now I have to miss another few hours of work (due to appointment and then eyesight being affected) and endure -- for the second time in as many weeks -- the unpleasant sensation of stinging eye drops and that tester thing they put right next to or on your eye. There are worse things in the world but seriously, why? Their poor planning is my lost wages and discomfort. I have lost count of how many minor annoyances I've encountered at Chico Eye Center. I've come to expect the tone, scheduling mix-ups, and billing errors. I guess it's the price to pay for seeing the exceptional doctors there. I have been going for several years and every time I have had a very long wait and twice I have had to leave to go back to work before I was even seen and had to make an additional appointment. Today just did me in. After waiting for one hour (sitting on a chair in their waiting area) they called me to tell me I missed my appointment. Are you kidding me? And...they never sent in one of the RX I need so now I need to call and follow up on that. May I have the two hours back that I spent there today? I will be looking for a new eye dr. ASAP. read more

My husband recently had eyes checked, was set up to return in one month for follow up. when checking out he paid amount due above insurance payment and was e-mailed receipt. received recent statement dated almost one month after last visit showing that amount he paid was not credited but a large additional sum "DUE NOW" was added. called billing department and was told they had no record of payment being made after last visit. asked about amount due and was told there was a credit balance but it was an insurance error. if we would of paid the 225.00+dollars that was "DUE NOW" without question i am not convinced we would have ever received another statement. when questioned about poor billing practices was told SIR we are very busy and a couple of billing errors could slip through, but we would have caught it and issued a credit. i wonder how many seniors would have caught this and paid. kind of makes me think. read more

I have lived in Chico for most of my life and have tried and been disappointed with other Optometrists, until I came here. I have strong astigmatism in both eyes and finding prescriptions that work has been a struggle, then I met Dr Warne. He was meticulous in making sure my prescription would work for me. I haven't seen this clearly in years. Not only did I find everyone to be friendly and helpful they work tirelessly to be the best at what they do. It's no wonder that place is so busy! If you're looking for someone who will take the time to really understand your needs I highly recommend Chico Eye Center. read more

I had the PRK surgery over the holidays and what an incredible service! Dr. Sean Liston is a true craftsman, kind, patient and a truly exceptional surgeon. I went from needing glasses due to a strong astigmatism to seeing 20/20. Hiking in upper park has never been so enjoyable! I strongly recommend Dr. Liston and, if the other comments here are accurate, the other doc's at CEC are quite good too! As for the back office service, yes they can be a bit slow. But my read is that this has more to do with young staff and need for a slightly better work flow system. Overall, it shouldn't prevent you from enlisting the help of the experts they have working there. Just bring a good book in the event you might have to wait more than 10 minutes. read more

If I could give a negative star rating I would... It has been 3 weeks and my glasses are still not even sent. Horrible, horrible service. After 2 weeks of not having glasses they gave me 5 days worth of contacts and promised that my glasses would be here on Monday. Well, it's Monday and they still don't have my glasses and will have to order new contacts for me to use 'if your glasses don't come in tomorrow'. I suppose I can wait another 3 weeks for those contacts too.... That is ridiculous, there are so many people out there that need their glasses TO SEE. Really?... It has taken 3 weeks to 'maybe' get my glasses and you will have to order contacts if they don't come in?! This is so absurd, and I've already told many of my peers to cancel appointments so they do not have to deal with this ridiculous service. ABSURD. This place is terribly managed obviously. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE. However, if you would like to wait for almost a month for your glasses... be my guest. 'I'm sorry' at this point is ridiculous, and should be compensated for so much more. read more

Beware of Dr. Gilbert. Despite having seen him recently he not only didn't remember my name, he didn't remember me. That appointment which should have take a half hour turned into three hours, having had to wait that long. Twice. The first time to talk to an aid, the second time being returned to the waiting room where I might as well have been forgotten. read more

The last time I got glasses there the lady was so cold it was super weird, then she ended up adding all this extra crap onto the glasses and it was super expensive (without asking if I wanted). I have been going there for over 20 years. I left them for a year as they are very insufficient. I was born with glaucoma and am corrected with hard lenses. I went back last month and had a contact Prescription check as another eye center in town ordered my prescription in a different composition. I left my currrent spare lefts with them to check and ordered a right lense. It took over a month to get the ordered one in. When I picked up my order, the left ones I left were not returned. They "attempted" to look but told me they could not find them. I told them who took them and that they would have that person call me. They never did. I called 2 more times with no results. On 8/27/20 I finally spoke with the person whom I gave the left contacts to. He was very rude and nasty and kept insisting I did not leave them with him. He was so nasty that I accidentally said a cuss word. Later that afternoon I was called by the administrator. I apologized for my foul language,etc. She told me she would look for the contacts. She called me back and told me she found them, argued with me and told me I was being dismissed as their patient. I was very upset. I told her she was discriminating against me and she insisted she wasn't even after I apologized again, told her I have Aspergers and admitted I was wrong but the man was belligerent and rude, etc. I was so angry and told her as she was yelling at me saying she had to protect her employees, etc that I finally told her I am about to cuss and i am angry and about to meltdown that I could not speak with her. I hung up after A few more heated words but none of them were cuss words. With help from a friend an hour later, I was told that I called more than once and cussed him out and that I used the "N" word. I clamp to, her that I never said that word or called in more than once to cuss him out. I am a rule follower. What she did was wrong. read more

I have gone to Chico Eye Center for the last 9 years. I have to say I LOVE going there. Dr.Warne is great! The office staff is friendly and courteous. I showed up an hour early and the staff was able to get me in. The lobby/ waiting area was clean and the tv was at a low volume. They had plenty of reading materials to choose from. After my eye exam I had the tech help me pick out a new pair of glasses. She was extremely helpful and friendly. I recommend this eye center to everyone. Not only do they have a well kept facility, but I felt like they were all there to make sure my experience went the way it should. read more

Bottom line is this, she made everything right and I came away completely satisfied. How a company responds to a complaint goes a long way in determining my willingness to do business with them in the future .If I feel disrespected and that my concerns are not taken seriously, I will go elsewhere. Having taken my business there I'm left with the opinion that they're only in it for the money. I had an ophthalmologic exam, optometric exam and purchased glasses (for which they were the most expensive of all local vendors checked.) After the assorted exams, the required measurement of pupillary distance (PD) and the purchase of glasses I was told there's a $20 service charge to have my PD disclosed (you know, written or spoken). PD is a brief, automated measurement performed by a sales clerk. It's like having a shoe salesperson demand $20 to tell you the size of your feet after you've bought the shoes! How crass and greedy is that? In my opinion, and perhaps more worrisome, is that Chico Eye Center's business practices seem to demonstrate a willingness to operate in ways that are contrary to their patients' best interests. Here's an important question to ask yourself before seeking their care. Do they apply similar policies in their medical practices? For me, eyesight is too precious a gift to even risk an answer of "yes." I'll be seeking health care elsewhere. P.S. Lens Crafters will give you your PD without a purchase, as will other ODs in the surrounding area. read more

I have been using this office for 10 years. moved to the Paradise site when I moved there, have had o.k. service in Paradise. Last visit there was a sign posted stating that if you are 15 minutes late for your appointment it will be rescheduled. Well, I waited for 45 minutes for a 3:30 appt and ending up holding up the staff because I was not finished ordering glasses. My prescription was incorrect twice. This last time I was encouraged to do the new progressive 3d glasses at an addition cost of $450 that was not in my budget and not what I thought I needed. I use glasses for computer use at work all day. I do have a slight correction for distance. So I was encourage due to a change in my prescription for distance to give the tri focals a try. I did try it, went in for an adjustment as only a very small spot on the leans the size of a dime could I see the computer, it was fuzzy. I had to select a larger lens size to accommodate the tri focal, which was not preference in lenses, but I did so. After several weeks of trying to "get used" to the tri focal. I could not use them for work I tried for half of the work day each day, until I finally decided they did not work. They were glad to correct the prescription after another exam and review of the "new" glasses and the "old" glasses that I preferred. I was told that my old glasses were reader on bottom and computer in the center, and that my prescription for distance had not changed. They checked my eyes again and said not to be concerned about the distance correction my vision exceeded DMV criteria by far. I asked for a different frame as I did not like the larger frame, or if that was not possible to use and older pair of frames that I liked (old driving glasses that I was assured would help with night blindness and correct my mild distance vision, I did not use them as they did not seem to help with night blindness nor distance vision at all). No they could only use the original frames as the frames could not be returned as I had worn them. The original order has dimensions of the original frames and could not be changed, seriously you cannot change the order? I talked to the Optical Manager Michael Leuschner to confirm that I could not change frames. He confirmed that it was not possible to change the order at all that I could only have the lenses changed and not the frames. I requested a cash return on my purchase, It will take at minimum 10 days, SERIOUSLY, I paid with a debit card, and up to two weeks to adjust my insurance coverage so that I can get another paid of classes. I made an appointment for myself and my son before he started school for a general check-up. It was easy to schedule an appointment and I got a reminder the day before (as expected). The office was clean and the staff was friendly. I was taken back within 15 min of my appointment and I found my doctor to be very knowledgeable and great with me and my son. Dr. Ben Gilbert has been my eye doctor for many years. He has kept great track of my eye health due to my having diabetes. I needed cataract surgery this past March. I knew that I did because there were halos around lights. There was preparation for the surgery that was explained perfectly by staff. Dr. Gilbert did many calculations to determine the lens strength and what type of lenses would be perfect. I have had multi-focal lenses in the past, and he continued with that formula. So, one of my eyes (with new lenses) sees near objects, and my other eye was fitted with a lenses for far sight. This could not be more perfect. Somehow, your brain figures it out, and your eyesight is perfect! No readers or glasses needed. Not always the case, but in my case, it is perfect. My sight is clear and sharp. Virtually, no pain. Once I had the first eye done, I wanted the other eye done right away. It is not allowed, but the second eye was done two weeks later. Eagle vision accomplished. And, nobody could have told me that I had lost any color vision - yes, I had. Now colors are back and brilliant. Good - because my job requires good vision and good color vision. Thank you Dr. Gilbert for being so perfect and willing to talk in depth with no impatience with your patients. Anna, Art, Etc., is better because of you. read more

I needed a new pair of eye glasses and wanted to try this place. Turn around time was very good! The optical department girls were helpful and nice. But after a few months I noticed some spots on my glasses and went back. Apparently the AR coating was peeling. In six months time they replaced the lenses twice! They last time they said they would not do it again! Well, here I am 4 months later with the coating peeling off again! They do their own AR coating in the lab and they DO NOT have any warranty!!!! I found out the lab has their own in house machine that does AR coating - and it must be junk. They don't tell you that steam can damage the coating - or give you any warning at all. I have no idea why it peeled again but now I have to pay out to have new lenses made. They will not get my business again and I would caution anyone who goes their NOT to used their in house AR coating!!!! read more
