Great food and service! The restaurant overlooks the Tar River and has nice ambience.

Food- poor quality. Rice was dry as heck like little pellets, beans lacked flavor. My stuffed chili rejeno had a very tough/ chewy texture I think came from the egg batter. I didn't care for it so I stopped eating it half way through. The cheese enchilada had cheddar and that was fine. The free chips and salsa was mediocre imo. The salsa was like a very thin soup. It lacked body and flavor/ freshness. Service- our waitress was friendly. Although the pace of the food coming out of the kitchen was god awful slow. People sitting there as we arrived were just getting their own food only AFTER we had gone thru 2 free baskets of chips/ salsa waiting on our order. Ambiance- it was nice to be looking over the Tar River as the building is historical. I wasn't a fan of hearing all the loud patrons sitting at the bar over in the next room. But we knew it had a bar when going here. I wouldn't suggest this place for a date night. Overall, due to the food quality, we won't be going back. read more

Date Purchased 10-11-2024 This was a Togo order... lady was very nice on the phone I ordered some Potato Skins and Buffalo Wings which came up about $29 both appetizers $13.99 a piece The food was delicious but my main concern still is the size of the chicken they were so small I just felt like I wasn't getting my money's worth but over all both appetizers were cooked to perfection and I will be back 10/10 read more

I love Chico's. One of my very favorite restaurants in Rocky Mount as someone who grew up here. Sitting outside by the river is lovely. I recommend carne tampiquena (sp?), shredded beef tacos, and cheese enchiladas to name a few. Their salsa is also very tasty; it's on the thinner side but with a lot of flavor and I like that texture personally. read more

I ordered a bowl of Chicken Soup- $7.99 Added sour cream- .99 cents Added Cilantro and avocado- .99 cents Cheese dip- $3.49 Total = $13.36 They charged me $23.71 + I tipped $2.00. Not sure how they got this total. They wouldn't give me an itemized receipt... I had to Google the menu online to see pricing to get the above #s. They have greatly increased their prices. Way too much. Cheese and bean burrito with rice and beans for over $13.00. No more free chips and salsa with take out. it used to be my favorite place but I will never come here again. Overpriced with small portions and no free chips. Go to San Jose food is better and so are the prices. read more

Awesome location for a restaurant. Our group of eight showed up mid afternoon for an after meeting late lunch - early dinner. It did take a few minutes to someone to come to the front of the restaurant and seat us. Other than that one delay, the rest of our interactions with the staff was good. I ordered the two combo platter with one chicken and one ground beef taco with a double portion of rice instead of rice and beans. All of our meals were brought to the table in a reasonable amount of time. Staff was good on bringing many baskets of chips and salsa to the table and keeping beverages refilled. While I enjoyed the flavor of my meal, I thought the flavors were a little "safe". I was expecting a bit more Mexican type seasoning, but the flavors didn't "wow" me. My wife and I stopped here for a late lunch on our way to FL last week and really enjoyed our meal. We split the combo of chile releno, taco and enchilada and we're very happy with our choice. Never, even during this pandemic, have I had an experience like I just had. It is my cousins birthday and he wanted to eat here. So we drove an hour to get here. There was a sign on the door saying no more than 6 to a table...knowing we had a bigger party than that we went in expecting to have to sit at different tables. Went for the first time today. Thought a $14 "Texas style"burrito was a little high, so worked to find something affordable. After we ordered and the missus had gone to the necessary room, I noticed what I thought was a dessert menu on the next table. Turns out it was the LUNCH menu with specials and a more affordable price, which would have been appreciated, since what we got was overpriced. We were never offered the lunch menu. Soft taco was indistinguishable from Taco Bell, rice had a strange aftertaste, refried beans were from (Old) El Paso, chile relleno was forgettable and the chicken enchilada was ok at best. Two amazing things about Rocky Mount was the level of Mexican and Italian food. We stopped into Chico's for lunch and it was delish. Great margaritas, great salsa and the lunch entree's were great. I had the authentic tacos and they were some of the best I have had outside a real taco truck. The location is superb, right on the Tar River with plenty parking. read more

Been here a couple of times! Not overly impressed with the food... it was just...ok. The staff that i have encountered have been very friendly and helpful. The biggest compliment i could give is that the drinks are pretty tasty :-) The Mucho Margarita is HUGE & is more than enough to share with someone! Great original tasting fresh salsa with the chips, never had a bad drink here, and my favorite..... I love their tacos. I know what you're thinking WTH TACOS?! Yes, tacos. I was 10 years old with new braces and wasn't allowed to eat hard shelled tacos, so we asked if these were hard or soft shelled. The waiter said "neither.." They're kind of in between hard and soft and AMAZING. I always get the 3 taco combination: 2 shredded beef and 1 chicken with double rice (no beans-I hate beans). This dish never disappoints me. Now, if you're looking for an "authentic" Mexican place, this won't satisfy you, BUT if you're looking for some awesome American Mexican food, this is the PLACE to be! :) read more

Ten years ago this was my favorite Chicos. We used to drive from Greenville where we had two Chicos just to go to this one. Oh... how times have changed... I thought it would be a positive experience. The hostess was young and upbeat, our waitress was clearly just passing time till she could go home and drink. Only giving a 3 due to my food tasted great but left some to be desired for a $15 burrito. I ordered the Spicy Texas burrito to go. If I ordered in I would have asked for a new burrito due to the fact there was barely any chicken in it, instead was load with beans and onions. It was more or less like having an onion and beans burrito. Not has much rice as you would have gotten sitting down. I used to get this burrito when I worked in the area a few years ago and at $9 it was a steal but at $15 I feel ripped off and disappointed. Let me start by saying we love chicos of Greenville and visit often. We were in rocky mt for a swim meet and while the atmosphere is really neat and the food is similar to the Greenville location, it drastically falls short on food, service, and price. The salad is not a spring mix like the Greenville location and just isn't fresh. Sliced orange/pink skimpy tomatoes and iceberg lettuce, tHe ranch dressing is good but the salad is mediocre at best and overpriced for such a poor execution of a salad with no protein on top or anything . The shrimp tacos were good, but the Pico wasn't great and instead of shredded purple cabbage they have regular green cabbage that's minced up so small it lacks any texture. The prices are higher compared to greenville - 4.49 for a cheese dip that's basically the size of a dressing cup. Upcharged 1.49 to sub in a crap salad instead of rice and beans with 3 tiny 14.99 tacos and charged .80 for dollar store croutons. No ala cart menu or side options for tacos or quesadillas, so I paid $5.99 for a mini quesidilla for my kid. Over $37 and one kid didn't even order and we only had 1 entree and all had water. Will never be back to this location, save your money. read more

The manager and hostess were very rude and refused to answer our questions and only stated, "that's our policy and the more you talk it is not going to change it." I'm wavering on whether to give three or four stars...the black bean burrito is good, as well as the Mexican pizza. I love that they have outdoor seating available and the servers are always nice. Went to have a birthday day dinner for our friend on Saturday night. We had a party of 7. After 5 of us were seated and drink order taken the last 2 people showed up and sat down with us. There drink order was taken. After waitress brought drinks the manager Jeff came over and VERY loudly stated that one of us would have to move because they only allowed 6 people at a table. The birthday girl stated that we were just trying to have a dinner for her bday. Jeff stated that we all have birthdays so no one was special. He then stated that the only way we could sit that many at our table was if someone sat in a high chair. He looked around and then stated that it looked like no one could fit in one. One person moved from our party to another table by himself. Then we began hearing our waitress talk bad and cuss at us from behind the bar. We heard her say f*** them, and call one person an old man etc. Once we heard all of that we asked for our food to go. The waitress seemed to have a problem with that as we heard her yelling about it from the kitchen. We will never ever go back there. Management and staff are terrible and the chips and salsa we had was stale. read more

As a former waiter, the service was poor. Food was okay, but we waited forever. Waitress forgot my straw for 10 min while I ate salsa. No biggie. People who were seated after us got their food before us. A little frustrating. Waitress didn't check on us and when we finally got the ticket she offered a refill for my child. She then can back 5 min later with a tray of drinks for another table. We were also charged $2.50 for a side we wanted substituted but weren't told until afterwards and for some reason didn't get the original side. Never got the drink. read more
