    Lunch chicken taco salad, $9

Overall, a pretty good Mexican - American restaurant. Service is always quick, and it's your traditional, setting as far as colors and booths go with the typical advertising on the tables... They don't scratch make much of their food as far as I can tell, which would definitely elevate the experience. And the plates are fairly expensive, but big enough for my wife and I to share, which is always a plus. Ice, cold, beers and happy hour margaritas every day. Overall, a pretty good local Mexican restaurant.

Pros: Friendly, quick staff and food Nice decor Clean bathrooms Better than average Mexican food Crispy taco was excellent Cons: Beef in molcajete was tough Tortilla chips could do with some lime and salt Tamale corn lard mixture was much thicker than we were used to Enchiladas sauce left a lot to be desired

All around not an acceptable place to eat- dirty hanging cobwebs in July! Customer service was lacking and felt as if it was the last thing this guy wanted to be doing- I ordered a glass of Riesling and it was rancid- asked to change my order to a strawberry margarita and they must have literally put maybe a drop of tequila in it- at this point I didn't complain because I really didn't want the food to be compromised- I ordered the 2 enchilada combo- definitely was microwaved and my mans chalupa was nothing more then a weird fry bread taco that was cold and had a weird turkey/chicken protein instead of the ground beef he ordered- disappointing and disastrous is putting it politely- can say we will not be giving this place a try-

If you want great Mexican cuisine in the Pacific Northwest, Chihuahua is the place! This place has the ambience and the food to go with it! I had the three tacos entree which was terrific! I had the steak tacos which was cooked to perfection. The portion size was huge! The alcohol selection was decent, I chose the margarita on the rocks to wash down my entree. The service was fast and friendly. Make sure you make plans or get a reservation because this place was hopping on the weeknight we visited!

We've been customers of Chihuahua for nearly two decades! In fact, it used to be a regular stop after church on Sundays because we could sit in the back next to the fountain and it would keep our twins occupied while we waited for lunch to arrive. They've since added even more space (and another fountain!), but kept up on their good food, super-friendly service, and of course their famous margaritas. They also have my favorite Mexican beer, Negra Modelo, on tap which is not easy to find in these here parts. My go-to item on the menu is often their delicious tortilla soup, which arrives piping hot in a huge bowl, and is adorned with fresher-than-fresh avocados. I'm seriously salivating for this soup just thinking about it. They also offer the standard Mexican restaurant fare of enchiladas, tacos, etc., but also some specialty items including a delicious posole that is often posted as a special. You can get it with chicken or pork. On a recent visit I was in the mood for a chile relleno, which was part of one of their lunch combos and a great deal at just $6.95. Including my pint of beer the meal was a great deal. And I can't say enough about the service, which is always...ALWAYS...friendly, quick, professional, and helpful.

Nasty crusty food, and way overpriced. I wouldn't even wish this food on my worst enemy.

I am giving them a 3 star only because they are new. If I had this type of an experience at an…read moreestablished restaurant, I would have given them a 1 star. Perhaps things will improve over time. My son and I decided to try out the new Mexican restaurant in Ferndale, and that was a mistake. First for reference the restaurant wasn't that busy, they had 5 tables with customers (counting us), and 2 wait staff serving those 5 tables. The first thing we noticed was that the service was really slow, then we noticed that between the two wait staff one of them was doing a really good job and the other was really slow and far less attentive. The service was super slow to even take our drink orders, another group than came in after us had their drinks before our waiter even took our order. After a while we noticed that the tables on the other side of the restaurant were getting chips and salsa, but not on our side of the restaurant. Apparently with our waiter chips and salsa were items that needed to be ordered, rather than just bringing them to the table at first contact like the other waitress did. This really lacked any type of theme. The bar area had some Mexican tequila, but as far as the theme, it looks like a big warehouse that was converted to a dance hall that is now being used as a restaurant. For ambiance in the restaurant they had a TV with a message on it from Pandora saying "Are you still listening", which makes me think that they had some type of music on, but that Pandora timed out on the streaming. My son (22 years old) described it as cafeteria style seating and that it felt like eating in a cafeteria, not a Mexican restaurant. Perhaps that's enough, but next came the food. Looking around the restaurant as we were seated I notice that all the plates on the other tables looked like huge piles of rice and beans, and I wasn't in the mood for a massive pile of rice and beans, so I decided to order the Taco Salad. The salad was describe as this "Taco Salad: Lettuce, tomato, cilantro, and choice of meat topped with sour cream and avocado". Ok, that sounded really good to me, and there was even an option to get it topped with carne asada, or carnitas for a minimal extra charge. Yumm, that sounds good. Well when it arrived, perhaps a better name for it would have been the rice bowl. It was one of those tortillas fried in the shape of a bowl. It was mostly filled with Mexican rice, and it was topped with a light sprinkling of lettuce, cheese, salsa, guacamole and ranch dressing. Now keep in mind that the whole reason that I ordered the salad was that I didn't want a pile of rice or beans, and what did I get, the salad "rice bowl" that was mostly rice, and barely salad. So then I wanted to bring it up with them that I had not ordered the rice bowl, and that I was expecting salad items in my salad, and not a pile or rice. However it wasn't until after my son had finished his meal and we were ready to leave that they even came back to check on things. When it came time to pay, they didn't seem to know how to use their credit card machine, and after fumbling around with my credit card for a while, they said that they could only take cash. My rating (scale of 0 to 5): * Atmosphere... 0, its a warehouse space. * Service... 1, the service from our waiter was horrible, it appeared that the waitress did a good job with her tables. * Cleanliness... 5, the area was very clean. * Food... 2, maybe its just me to think that a rice bowl is not a salad. Perhaps they need some time to work out the kinks, train the staff to be service oriented, improve the atmosphere and for the chef to learn how to prepare what is stated on the menu. Give it a while, but for now I wouldn't recommend Don Samuel Mexican Grill & Tequila Bar. Any of the other Mexican restaurants in Ferndale or Bellingham would be a better choice.

The two of us were amazed by the attentiveness of the server, and both owners. Charming people and good food. This place gets packed on Thursday nights when they have line dancing ($5 cover includes instruction) and often has specialty international and Latin music in many saturdays. Sunday's they have family style events and karaoke. There is ample free parking and easy access from Pacific highway.

After sipping on some margaritas and nomming a quesadilla, we all headed to the after-affair at nearby Outlaws. Confession: even though I'm a dive bar fanatic and lived in nearby Bellingham for many years, I had never been to Outlaws before! Well, now I'm kinda regretting that. This place is what you'll find in a lot of dive bars: kinda dark, but with a lot of neon, and a lot of locals hanging out on a weekend night. In other words, it was perfect! Having already enjoyed a couple of margaritas and facing a long drive home later, I settled on a pint of my trusty fave, Mac 'n Jacks, while the bday crowd enjoyed a variety of shots and (apparently very strong) cocktails. We played some pool, sat around their HUGE communal table, and just enjoyed each other's company while the 80s tunes played and the bar filled up. While I didn't get to try any food while I was here, there are rumors going around that their wings are amazing - so next time I'm up that way, I'll have to check 'em out.

No more mechanical bull and shuffle board. The only thing left is a pool table. Came to celebrate a friend's birthday. Bartenders are great there and met some regulars who seem great too. Try one or two shots off their shot menu. Too many and some never heard of. Per the Bartender she only need the shot number not the name. Wish they had some live music or a juke box but maybe they do and we were too busy talking and playing pool to notice or dance. Can't wait to go back for another fun night.
