Was contacted outside of a Target store. The pitch was to either donate to Childhelp's suicided hotline for $30, or buy a backpack for $44. I chose the hotline for $30. When I got home, the emailed receipt said it was a monthly reoccurring charge that I had signed up for. Like most other reviewers here, there was no mention or option given for an ongoing charge. I disputed the charge and cancelled my credit card immediately. I do not want my donation going to a organization who, in my eyes, was trying to scam me. Shame on them. I also see where, on the receipt, "they" made a note they can use the money as they see fit. I want any donation I make to go to the cause, not overhead and paychecks. read more

They promise help and only caused pain for me and my 2 kids for 2 years I was a mother and my child was being SA abused by her father I was told to go there by CPS of all ppl they took my kids lock them in a "play room"and then took me into a conference room with some dumb cop / no lawyer ,no recordings,and proceeded to drill me for hrs. Me and the cops got into a screaming match 2 time there and in court!!long story short.. the only good thing to come out of this was I divorced him which I had to do by myself no "help from them" and he was supposed to be on the list to register for life,that was a joke he did some test a year later and was cleared.BS Childhelp ..we're was my help???? My kids are still in there adulthood messed up .and i was told by my psychiatrist I was IN THE RIGHT!!!! read more

Scam. Table outside a fast food chain for a backpack drive between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Reputable regional chain with a strong history of supporting the community. I assumed this organization had been vetted. Donated to the backpack drive. Two part transaction. One for the backpack. Second for a "one time" fee for the "call center". The next month the "call center" fee showed up on my credit card again. I doubt a kid even got a backpack. Must be a special kind of scum that uses kids and Christmas as a way to steal money. Donated for kids needing backpacks and was signed up unknowingly for a 30 dollar a month subscription. Yes, my fault for not reviewing the bank statements but they also used 2 different transaction ID's which was shady to say the least. My cc company researched and took the extra step to check with me on the phone and sure enough, it was one ID for the backpacks and one for the 30 a month. I was at my gym several months ago and a ChildHelp rep had a table there and approached me about making a donation for a backpack for an underprivileged kid. I made a one-time donation, then recently discovered that the organization was billing me monthly, which I never agreed to. I contacted my credit card company to stop any further payments to this group, and they are investigating whether this is fraud. Lesson learned -- never make a donation on the spot. Much like the other one-star reviews, my daughter and I were approached to make a one-time donation towards backpacks. Even after disputing with Chase, my daughter has continued to be charged EVERY MONTH. Child Help is an outright fraud and gives charities a bad name which is the most awful part of all of this. As many people have mentioned in their reviews, I was also completely scammed by this organization. I had made a few one-time donations over the course of a year and a half, only to find, on both my debit card and credit card, that I was being charged $30 multiple times a month. I never consented to a membership or anything other than a one time donation, much less a membership on two different cards being charged multiple times a month. I wanted to help an organization claiming to be helping suicidal children. I am shocked and disgusted that people would take advantage of others with that purported mission. The girl taking my info convinced me to give a one time donation of $30. I did so believing the need was great. I just realized that have been charging me the $30 every month, total theft. Like everyone else on here with a 1 Star Review. I too authorized a ONE TIME charge of my credit card. After leaving a local restaurant, I was asked to give $30 and I authorized a $100 donation as it was for children's school backpacks. These scammers set me up for an automatic withdrawal of $30 every month so I've been getting charged WITH OUT my authorization for the past 4 months. It isn't even about the $30, it's about the fact that I was happy to give to their organization and they took it upon themselves to set me up on monthly charge. It's the principle of it all. They will stand out of popular businesses and trick you into donating a one time donation. Once they have your credit card information, they will charge you monthly without your approval. The fact that Childhelp has helped over 12 million children escape abuse and neglect via their hotlines and centers like these tells me they are the experts in this field. He asked me to donate $10 to fund their hotline for abused children. I found out afterwards that he signed me up for a monthly donation not a one time donation. My bank has disputed these charges and sent stop payments but somehow Childhelp finds a way to use a new number and continue charging me. After 3 years of this I'm going to have to cancel my credit card to stop them from charging me. Best organization I have ever had the honor of donating to or working with. No one does better work. Can't believe they have been around for 60 years! Been to star studded events with them like galas and golf tournaments as well as villages and advocacy centers where it's dig in and do the work no one else wants to do for these kids! One employee I met was a janitor, and another a cook who had been at the village over 20 years! One dropped to his knees and began thanking Sarah and Yvonne (the Hollywood starlets who founded the charity all those years ago). The man exclaimed, "Thank you, you've changed my families lives forever." Now I can certainly agree, they have also changed my family's lives forever! Now having met and heard stories straight from kids grown, who came through Childhelp villages and centers, one man who never had shoes before age 8 when Childhelp gave him his first pair. Another who never felt like she was "home," or could unpack her suitcase until arriving to the CA Village after being removed from over 25 foster and adoptive care homes. One grandmother who saw people doing a backpack drive at a Chic Fil A and the ladies gave her the Childhelp Child Abuse Hotline, 18004AChild, she called in to speak with a mastered degree level counselor on the other line. Her grand daughter was promptly removed from the home, turned out the grandmothers worst fears were real, her grand daughter who she just came to visit for Thanksgiving was being abused. This is real people, it's happening in our communities in our families and in some cases in our homes. This organization is credited with saving over 10.5 MILLION children and helping to pass EVERY law against child abuse in our country. Nominated for 9 Nobel Peace Prize. Over $.92 on ever dollar they get goes to the actual cause and the actual kids.
