I went in the spring and enjoyed this cafe but I do remember having to ask for extra syrup for my drink. Well I returned again to try their new fall menu, this time the spiced apple latte, and again that sounds nice but I don't think they 100% nailed it. It needed more of the flavor it was advertised to be. I still find the pastry prices to be a little high. So that being said I'm not in a rush to return. Regardless though the baristas are still super friendly and the music is always a vibe!
Loved everything about this whimsical cafe. The world needs more whimsy! From the cozy, low key location that is slightly tucked away to the creative drinks menu I felt a flurry of comfort blended with excitement as soon as I got here! I ordered the carrot cake iced latte (with cream cheese foam!) To be honest, I couldn't even tell the foam was flavored distinctively but I enjoyed the latte. I'm not too big on sweet drinks and this was light and balanced. I took a few minutes to enjoy my drink on the patio before heading out to my next destination, but look forward to my next visit!
Cinnamon roll alone is reason to stop in. Always fun seasonal items for lattes and for matchas which I love as matcha lover. Outside sitting area is lovely, not a lot of room inside. Pretty dang fast morning service (9am on Wednesday I was in an out in about 5 minutes!)
Stopped by for a strawberry matcha; while the matcha was good, it did not have much strawberry taste to it. The place has some casual seating which is nice. There was a water jug which was nice on a hot day but the dispenser wasn't very effective, so would recommend replacing it. You order at the cashier who also makes your drinks; she was friendly.
Eh, nothing impressed me too much about this place. I came in trying to order a latte, but had to wait a bit because the staff were in a corner gossiping. I got a crème brûlée latte which honestly just tasted like a regular latte. Nothing special; was kind of disappointed. I also did sit down here a bit at the seating in front of the windows - underneath the tables, it was somewhat dirty with hairs and dust. I'd love to try this spot again but these are kind of my expectations from my first visit.
Childhood Cafe was pretty good! It offered a lot of options with plenty of homemade syrup options, but I found their coffee and syrup to taste a bit weak compared to what I would expect. The space is also tiny and the flow of the register to the cafe area seemed disjointed. There are probably about three places that make sense to sit in here, which was disappointing as we were trying to find a place to hang out until the rain died down on Sunday. The baristas were very nice and this is a place worth visiting.
Their seasonal flavors are so good! I love the tomato and goat cheese quiche. They are usually very busy but always offer fast and friendly service. The inside is small with a few window barstools and the outside has ample seating with umbrellas. Can't wait to go back!
Popped into childhood coffee after taking a Pilates class in the area. Here's what I loved, + toasted marshmallow latte iced - delicious and they had skim milk for it , $5 for a small + bacon quiche, I was never a fan of quiche but I am now. It was filling and tasted fresh, $8.50 + outdoor seating, about 8 tables and chairs ( some for 2 people, some for 4) + fall specialty menu sounds really good. Surprised there wasn't a pumpkin option + they have hot sauce What I didn't love as much, + lots of people were doing work so seats were kind of hard to come by outside + the baristas could be friendlier in my opinion + the WiFi was going in and out when outside I would visit again if I were in the area. Not sure that I would go out of my way.
Got to visit this neighborhood place right off U street got a cold brew and breakfast burrito with spicy sausage both were good. They had good flavor and nice balance. The cold brew had a nice taste creamy and little bitterness. The breakfast burrito was nice and flavorful. It had fried potatoes in it that added some great flavor and texture. The sausage tasted good and had nice seasoning and heat level. The egg was tasty and light and had a nice pepper taste to them. The cheese in it a type of cheddar didn't blend as well with everything probably better to use a jack cheese since it has a similar profile to everything else. Service was great and nice. They served everything quickly and even though there was a big line they operated quickly. Inside and outside it is classic coffee house but has a big menu of drinks and pastries.
Don't get me wrong espresso was really great and overall vibe was great in the cafe. Workers seems super overwhelmed since it was super super busy. Loved the pastry I got! Maybe would have a better experience if it was less crowded and hectic. Not a lot of seating options, and my tip is to know what you wanted before you go... Can't wait for the second location!
This was a great cafe to get away from the torturous heat for a little while. Inside was were the blasting a/c was however most of the tables were out on their front patio. They probably could use a fan on that patio as bad as the heat is today. I ordered a medium sized cappuccino and a chocolate croissant so I could chill for a minute. The capucchino was better with the vanilla flavoring and it was prepared in a split second. The service was more than friendly and one of the guys gave me the WiFi password. It was a relaxed experience with not that many people, and my guess is that everyone was still working. This cafe definitely fits in well with the neighborhood.
Finally got around to trying Childhood Cafe. It's pretty small and has a more cozy atmosphere. The coffee and food options are decent. I wouldn't necessarily come here to spend hours and work, but it's a good place for a quick mid-day coffee or pastry on the go. It seems they change their drink specials depending on the season. I tried the breakfast sandwich which came with a hash brown and fried egg in it and thought it was filling, but it was reheated which didn't taste as fresh. If you order, I recommend adding hot sauce or ketchup for some extra flavor. The baristas seemed a bit overwhelmed as the cafe seems a bit understaffed? I asked if they could make a fresh sandwich and it was not received very well but it might have been because they were busy - just good to keep in mind.
I've always wanted to visit this location because they had an awesome menu which changes often. When I first got nearby, I had to drive around twice because I could not spot the location however, I was able to illegally park and run in and grab a drink again I love all of the unique flavors and options that they offer and I was happy to see that they have baked goods as well. I didn't get any baked goods, but I would definitely return to try whatever new flavor they will have for the month. The barista's were very friendly, and the inside was very clean.
Super cute new cafe in the neighborhood. So happy to have a local option on this side of 17th street. Everyone who works here is very friendly and you get your items quickly. They have great outdoor space and a few spots inside. I look forward to trying their lemonades and other specials. Their pastries look great. Coffee is delicious and cheaper than Starbucks. read more

Pretty neat concept! I got the strawberry pop tart and it was not too strawberry-y. But pastries were pretty good. Service was good and the seating was pretty good as well, there's more outdoor seating than indoor. Not many of the reviews mention wifi but they do have it! Inside it just seems like another coffee shop in terms of ambiance and atmosphere! read more

Loved the ambience and the ube matcha I got here. I could tell the matcha was of premium quality. Just the blend of the matcha with the ube was absolutely fantastic and well done. I also got a blueberry pop tart here and I can easily say it's one of the best pop tarts I've ever had. I think it's safe to recommend both of these items! read more

Really cute cafe and the employees are so friendly! We came Friday morning and it was a little busy. The employees were very apologetic with wait times and finished drinks as quick as they could. I ordered an iced blueberry muffin latte. It was pretty good, not my favorite but I love the uniqueness of the drink. They also have several other speciality drinks available and a variety of pastries. One item that's supposed to come soon is a tiramisu cold brew which I'm excited to try! I don't see myself coming often but it was a good first time experience and if I'm ever back in the area I'd love to try other things. read more

Fantastic baked food (pop tarts) and coffee drinks and the location is small but has a huge patio. Super clean and friendly neighborhood spot. The service is always great too (recommend their dirty chai lattes). read more

New favorite coffee shop! Denitsa, my barista, was super friendly and so helpful in recommending me what to try. Highly recommend the pistachio latte (I believe it's made with pistachio milk and pistachio cold foam) as well as the strawberry pop tart latte. I also love the tiramisu and the sopressata flatbread. I'm a fan of the music they play (mostly pop), there's free Wi-Fi, and indoor and outdoor seating. read more
Childhood cafe is a great addition to the neighborhood, with coffee and pastries that check all the boxes. I've tried the shaken espresso (very good), cold brew (smooth, solid) and the lemon poppyseed muffin (delicious, would order again). The vibes inside are relaxed; they have patio seating and a few chairs inside. The cups are on the smaller size, so maybe opt for the large size or risk getting to the end of your shaken espresso and wishing there was more like me ;) I look forward to trying more menu items! read more

I go to this cafe multiple times a week, sometimes close to every day. It's my absolute favorite coffee shop in the area. They have such good pastries that are all unique and delicious. The coffee is very solid and they have homemade syrups and flavors that are really good too. I go here all the time and still don't have a go-to order because they have so many good options. I always look forward to seeing what the options for each seasonal menu will be. read more
I had a craving for something sweet and decided to visit Childhood Cafe to indulge in a pastry. The cafe impressed me with its cleanliness and spacious layout, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I decided to try the gluten free double chocolate muffin. Without a doubt, their double chocolate muffin is one of the most delicious chocolate muffins/cakes I've ever had. It was moist, rich and not too sweet, perfection. Childhood cafe is an amazing new addition to the neighborhood!! Upon walking in my friend and I were immediately greeted by the staff. The line was pretty long but went by fast - it was almost out the door and we got to the front in less than 5 minutes! I ordered the brown sugar shaken espresso and LOVED it!! Jane (the barista) made it perfectly. We got there around 1:30 pm so they ran out of most pastries but I will definitely be back to try those too! There is some seating inside by the window but most of the seating is outside on the patio - a great spot to stop by on a warm day. The place is owned by Kyle kuzma so maybe you'll see him on your visit! read more
Stumbled across this new neighborhood spot today! This place opened recently, and I definitely plan to come often. The ambiance is fresh and the staff were extremely kind! stopped in Childhood Cafe a few months after all of the Instagram hype - cute little spot on a side street with a ton of nice outdoor seating out front. the inside is small (and VERY air conditioned) with less than 10 counter seats and low ceilings - the menu is adorable! if I was a sweet drink person I'd be all over this. like a blueberry muffin latte? strawberry pop tart latte? they also have non housemade syrups for a variety of sugar free options which is nice - speaking of inclusive, tons of gluten free options for pastries! I didn't try a pastry so I can't speak on the quality of them. but they look good! - prices were shockingly low for DC woohoo!! 4.60 for a large americano w alternative milk and SF syrup - coffee was a bit overly flavored. serious was slower but they were nice. they have generic cups that give a little bit diner vibes. coffee had decent flavor, not burnt! just a few bumps to smooth out. read more

was really excited to have a brown sugar shaken espresso somewhere other than Starbucks, but this one was too sweet and lacked the oat milk creaminess I was charged for... the matcha strawberry latte was tasty -- definitely a treat! wouldn't go here as my daily coffee shop, but worth checking out to satisfy a sweet craving read more

Very small, but cozy. Best for a quick stop in rather than sitting and enjoying! The lavender matcha I got was amazing, but next time I would do without the lavender petals in the drink. The service was great. Can't wait to go back and try more drinks and their pop tarts. read more

Five stars all around. Excellent selection of high quality baked goods. Very good coffee selection. Nice ambience inside. Café tables outside. Try their quiches, their take away items (like the tiramisu), and their baked goods (monkey bread, pop tarts, muffins, etc). Truly delicious! And the manager Joe creates a very positive vibe there. Decided to try Childhood Cafe today. Came towards the afternoon so their pastries were almost sold out. I got a matcha latte and really didn't enjoy the taste. It was chalky and a bit powdery. My friend got the lavender latte and the flavor masked the chalky taste a bit. I would be willing to try other drinks but didn't love the Matcha. The ambience was great and plenty of outdoor seating. read more
